About the Artist
Singer, songwriter, producer and musician, Gerald Cassanova is one of Central Florida's brightest stars. Since his debut more than twenty five years ago, Cassanova has written, produced and recorded several multi-tune projects, some of them R&B some Gospel. Along with being a talented artist, he has maintained the position of a high school Assistant Principal with the Seminole County Public School System for 14 years.

His first solo album, "Jus' Another Love Affair" released in 1992, netted Cassanova critical R&B reviews throughout the southeast. In 1998 he released his second major project, "Two Faces". This was an innovative mixture of R&B and Contemporary Gospel. This project garnered not only critical acclaim from his R&B contemporaries, but also unprecedented respect from his fellow Christian followers. "A Few Good Men", released in 1996, became Cassanova's first project to sell out as soon as it was released. With such phenomenal success, it is no wonder that his contemporaries have likened Cassanova to a Luther Vandross with a Kurt Franklin attitude.

In spite of the accolades and recognition, Cassanova remains remarkably humble and devoutly Christian. From the many long nights of singing in dimly lit, smoke filled lounges to the bright light and noisy crowded dance floors of night clubs to spirit filled leads in the church choir, the hard work, sacrifices and perseverance has paid off. It was "time well spent". He has become a versatile artist. Cassanova usually travels with a 17 member concert convention band while on the road and performing in concert halls throughout the world, but he is also an acclaimed solo act.

Cassanova's latest project, "Highest Praise" is slated for release in the summer of 2001. This project highlights Cassanova, some of his family members, and a few of his closest friends. It is a collection of songs that reflect Cassanova's religious walk and beautiful demonstration of his spiritual growth through titles like; Merciful Father, Blame it on The Father, Lifted, With Thee In Heaven, Promises, Angels, Club Heaven, Minds Made Up and the title cut Highest Praise.

The road chosen thus far have been a mixed bag of pitfalls and successes but a strong foundation deeply rooted in the church, the unrelenting support of his family and friends has kept Cassanova solidly grounded in reality.

5 out of 5 stars Instruments of the Orchestra - Great Reference Material!.......2007-04-04

This set lends itself to greatly enhancing one's knowledge of the orchestra, instruments in it, and their usage. I am a huge music buff, and I still picked up a great deal I previously did not know. I highly recommend this for all who wish to understand the origin of music, as well as the processes that are employed to create music!

5 out of 5 stars Beginner or Expert.......2007-03-12

This CD is excellent for the beginner or expert! To be able to haear the instrumets separately and then together really provides a good education. and/or refresher. The book thaty comes with the CD is alomost worth the price by itself!

5 out of 5 stars Very Informative and Enjoyable.......2006-11-20

Whether you're a music novice or pro, "The instruments of the Orchestra" is a very worthwhile purchase. The 7 CDs, with a total of 8 hours, are expertly narrated by Jeremy Siepmann. He's a great speaker, very much like the late Leonard Bernstein was. Mr. Siepmann takes you on an unforgetable musical journey covering the origins and use of the various orchestral instruments throughout musical history. The balance between his narration and a wealth of musical examples, which range from snippets to entire movements, is superb. The comprehensive enclosed booklet is excellent and faithfully follows the 7 CDs in content. Even with my 40+ years of music training I still learned new things from this wonderful collection. Considering the excellence of the content, and a cost that translates to about $5 per disc, this collection is a great value. Grab it, you won't regret that you did. Five solid stars!

3 out of 5 stars Frank's view.......2006-08-19

This boxed set of CD's with booklet achieved all I had hoped that it would. There are good samples of individual instruments and well done commentary on each. The only drawback was that some of the samples were too brief and could have been longer, hoiwever I guess this fits in with time constraints of the medium. It has given me a lot of clues as to future purchases of CD's for listening to individual instruments. Altogeth a satisfactory purchase and a welcome addition to my collection.

5 out of 5 stars Excellent Intro for Those Not Familiar with the Orchestra.......2003-11-08

I've listened to classical music for years and am interested in composition. I bought this CD set to learn how an orchestra and its instruments work. I thought the CDs would be a nice but boring lecture. They aren't! Not only are they FUN but they are informative as well. I learned a huge amount from each CD and couldn't wait to listen to the next one.

The narrator and writer is a great speaker and holds your attention well. He is definitely knowledgeable. He provides musical examples for each point he makes, so you get to "hear" what he just talked about. I'd say the CDs are about 65% music and 35% narration. You'll learn about the range of instruments, some history, different ways to play them, how they sound, and how they are used in the orchestra. This CD set was a great learning experience and is sold at such a low price!

I recommend this CD for those who want to learn about classical music and those who know about it but are interested in learning more about the inner workings of an orchestra. You'll learn much useful information. For instance, the Rite of Spring (with that eerie start) is written for bassoon! I never knew a bassoon could sound like that but now I do.

The one complaint I have is the last CD. This deals with the orchestra. I wanted more of a tour of how the orchestra has been used through history up to the present. Instead, it was a tour of how different groups of instruments sound. I thought it could have been better. The other 6 CDs are excellent.

This compilation features excerpts from some of the greatest sacred works in the literature--including Bach's Mass in B Minor, Handel's Messiah, Beethoven's Missa solemnis, and Verdi's Requiem--all led by Robert Shaw. The selections, from recordings made between 1983 and 1997 by Shaw and various ensembles including the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and Chorus, are presented more or less in order of their composition, from Vivaldi's Gloria to Arvo Pärt's Magnificat. Especially thrilling is the complete "Gloria" from the Missa solemnis, 17 minutes of sheer grandeur, and the Sanctus movements from the Requiems of Verdi and Maurice Duruflé. --Ted Libbey

I enjoyed this CD very much. It is just beautiful music.

5 out of 5 stars Robert Shaw Choruses At Their Best!.......2004-09-20

If Sir Robert were still alive, & breathing, I believe he would be caught-up making music with this awesome, majestic, mystical GLORIA, Sanctus, Hallelujah Masterworks! I lucked-up on this old collection in the few classical CD'S in Best Buy!

At first hearing they sent me back into the 1970's when most of Church Musicians majored in Vivaldi's Gloria, the Sanctus of Bach's B-Minor Mass, the Long, georgeous GLORIA, Missa Solemnis, Beethoven, and incomparable Alleluia by Randall Thompson.

During a visit of Hurricane IVAN'S rushing winds and torrents of rain, I stayed on back roads of Decatur and East Atlanta! Also keeping alert & relaxed listening to Robert Shaw re-inventing his Choral Mystique! In slowly moving traffic of 2++ hours to Fayetteville, I kept alert singing along at 30 mph, wrapped in his quiet heavenly beauty of Koplov's "Heavenly Light!"

That mysteriously spiritual power of glorious choruses provided the same resourceful sounds of his eternal music-making from rehearsals in the Atlanta Symphony Chorus, Westminster Choir College and Avery Fischer Hall concerts in NYC! (1975-1985)

Only the early 33 1/3 recordings of the Robert Shaw Chorale in his Spirituals and Irish Songs, later Handel's Messiah and Bach B-Minor Mass were forerunners to his awesome listing of repeated Grammy winners, now printed in digital stereo color and sound! Hooray for Sir Robert and his rich chorale legacy... Let's keep them singing for Eternity! Retired Chaplain Fred W Hood

5 out of 5 stars Glorious.......2000-06-30

If I had to choose one conductor to compile exerpts from the greatest masses and works in choral literature and history, I would only bestow that duty to Robert Shaw and his choruses. Once again he displays his uncanny ability to not only choose beautiful music but also perform it in a spellbinding manner. Even with the pieces the average listener has heard or performed, such as Vivaldi's Gloria or portions of Handel's Messiah, one cannot help but become enthralled with the recordings of Shaw's interpretations of those works. Although Shaw never followed through on his early-life ambition to be a minister, I still believe he does so and perhaps to a greater extent through his music ministry. One cannot help but feel closer to understanding what heaven is about after having finished listening to this CD. This is well worth buying for it will live up to the english interpretation of its Latin title: Glorious.

4 out of 5 stars A Beautiful Collection of Russian Liturgical Music.......2004-04-20

Russian liturgical music from the monasteries is a combination of a number of different styles. Since the Church id from the orthodox tradition, the music is influenced partly by Greek liturgical music. It also has a bit of a western Gregorian flow to it, though this is not as strong as other influences. It also has a bit of Russian folk music flair to it. Musically it is interesting, but it also has a spiritual quality to it. Perhaps because it has survived against tremendous odds during the Soviet years, it has strength to it as well.

This recording by the Novospassky Monastery Choir contains liturgical music primarily for Easter but contains other prayers and psalms as well. The CD has liner notes but no translation for the music, but for the price, this is not a complaint. The choir is strong and is able to convey both the majesty and beauty of the music.

Once again, Naxos has provided a unique quality musical experience and a budget price.

5 out of 5 stars Glorious.......2006-07-31

I have listened to a great deal of Orthodox music and I think this is by far one of the most beautiful collections I have ever heard. Actually, it is one of the most georgeous pieces of music of any kind I have heard.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome... heavenly... ethereal Russian Choral Music.......2006-05-21

This Awesome, ethereal, heavenly ANCIENT ECHOES was a gift of my friend, Dick Talley last year. Seldom does my early awakening miss listening to these choral chants of the Orthodox Monastery!

If I could choose the more interesting, comforting, fasinating polyphonic chants, they would be No.3 "The Only Begotten Son" of Golovanov, No.5 "The Lord Speaketh" and No.6 "Glory be to God in the highest" both by Bortnyansky!

Only Russian Choral Treasures are equally awesome, spiritually refreshing. When I awaken every morning around 4:00, I began listening to both these recordings, before reading or praying for friends, such as, Dick and Anita Talley.

Upon becoming 75 years of age, I tend to simplify my habit of listening to Choral Music. Most fondly reviewed by Retired Chaplain Fred W Hood, "Barbara377" (Fayetteville, GA USA)

5 out of 5 stars The Might of the Russian Male Choral Sound.......2005-10-03

The Russian liturgical music, especially that for the high holy days of Christmas and Easter, owns a mystery all its own. This splendid recording by the Chorovaya Akademia conducted by Alexander Sedov is a fine a sound as any produced on recording. Though few of the composers (with the exception of Tchaikovsky and Grechaninov) are well known outside Russia, the works are all beautifully composed and hauntingly performed. There is somewhat of a sameness to these religious works (little variation in tempi, expressive range, dynamics) but the overall effect is one of humble spirituality.

This is a fine example of the Russian choral music that is growing in popularity one the recorded repertoire and it is for this listener one of the best. Grady Harp, October 05

4 out of 5 stars Compare These 3.......2004-04-19

There are 3 different CD's about Russian Choir "A Cappella" music which can be discussed & reveal a certain enjoyment to different people with different needs or means:

"Ikon" sung by the Holst Singers on Hyperion is the middle ground that gives a well balance & beautiful music from an English choir group. If you did not know they were English, you would think of them as Russian. Most songs are Russian classics from Sviridov, Gretchaninov, Kalinnikov, & Tchaikovsky with modern versions from Part, Gorecki, & Nystedt. The highlight is from the female sopranos which give an angelic & awl inspiring spiritual uplift that must not be missed.

"Sacred Treasures" sung by several groups including The Russian State Symphony Cappelle, The Leningrad State Academic Choir, The Bulgarian National Choir, & a few other groups on Hearts of Space give the most authentic Russian that to English ears may sound slow & uneventful. Yet to a person that knows Russian, this CD will cause the most goose bumps due to its rightful intensity with music from Rachmaninov, Bortniansky, Kedrov, Gertchaninov, Tchaikovsky, Christov, Turchaninov, & Lvovski.

"Ancient Echoes" sung by the Chorovaya Akademia on RCA Victor may give the best first impression due to its well made production that will give a serious work out to any professional stereo system, yet with further study will reveal an over dramatized style that may get in the way. Songs from the composers Sheretiev, Nikolsky, Golovanov, Strokin, Bortnyansky, Grechaninov, Riutol, Tchaikovsky, & Chesnokov.

If your into Russian "A Cappella" music, give these 3 CD's a try & decided for yourself.

3 out of 5 stars Quite genuine but lacking in contemplative mellowness.......2004-01-05

The fantastic cover of this cd notwithstanding (the monk in red habit is a Catholic monk, probably a Carthusian, Orthodox monks wear a different habit), this is a cd of authentic Russian religious music for Christmas and Easter composed in the last 200 years and sung by an all-male choir: the Choravaya Akademia under the direction of Alexander Sedov.

The total length of this recording is 63:25 minutes.

Compared with other such cds available on Amazon.com like Sacred Treasures I and II, Ancient Echoes has a more vigorous and folk-song style. I do not want to sound sacrilegious or cynical in the least but many of the chants sound like Red Army songs.

So if you are looking for something virile and robust, something to bolster your resolution for moral rearmament, this is the kind of music that will delight you. If on the other hand you are looking for something tenderly contemplative, buy Sacred Treasures I or II or Rachmaninoff's Vespers by the Robert Shaw Festival Singers.

Give God the Highest Praise is uplifting, motivating and truly invites the presence of the Holy Spirit in this praise and worship!! A Night Of Destiny, recorded in Orlando FaithWorld stirs enthusiasm as all the glory and honor is given to our Lord, Jesus Christ. Since moving from FaithWorld to Chisholm, MN, I've been able to share this spectacular CD with many here that have never experienced the "life" offered in this worship. Clint Brown is not only a talented music performer, but his preaching is as full of the truth and promise of our soon coming King!! Glory!!!

THIS ONE OF THE BEST PRAISE AND WORSHIP CDS OUT THERE.FROM THE MUSIC COMPOSITION TO THE "LIVE" ATMOSHERE.

CLINT BROWN SEEMS TO GENUINE IN HIS PRAISE AND WORSHIP TO GOD,WHICH IS A REFRESHING CHANGE.

MOST OF THE ARTIST OUT THERE SINGING "CHRISTIAN" MUSIC COULD BE PLAYED AT EITHER A CHURCH OR A NIGHT CLUB,BECAUSE THEY FAIL TO MENTION GOD OR JESUS IN THERE SONGS.CLINT BROWN DOES NOT FAIL TO DO THIS AT ALL.HIS OTHER CD"LIVE FROM ORLANDO" IS EVEN BETTER.I HIGHLY RECOMEND THESE 2 CDS.

5 out of 5 stars THE SPIRIRT OF EXCELLENCE ABIDES IN CLINT BROWN.......1999-11-13

As a minstrel, I hear a lot of music and often find some releases so bland or biege that they do little more than recite scripture to some recycled beat. "Give God the Highest Praise" is high on funk, high on excellence, high on talent, and most importantly, high on the Holy Ghost! Our church is blessed to have many of his songs in our repertoire and were elated to have had him come and worship with us at Ambassador Family Church in Oceanside, CA. Be sure to check out his Live from Orlando CD also. Be blessed and let everything that has breath praise the Lord!

5 out of 5 stars A Masterpiece, Magnificently Performed .......2006-02-07

The solemn heavenly beauty of the Russian Orthodox Saturday evening "All-Night Vigil" liturgy resonates off the walls of the Cathedral of SS Peter and Paul in this magnificent rendering of Rachmaninoff's masterpiece. In particular, the 'Bogoroditse Dyevo' (Ave Maria) is achingly beautiful. A great performance of a truly great piece of music.

    5 out of 5 stars Impression.......2000-04-13

It's like the walls of a church begin to sing!

5 out of 5 stars Sacred music at its mind-blowing best.......1999-01-14

This is an utterly magnificent recording - one of my all-time favorites. I have heard other renditions, but none come close to this particular interpretation. It is sung with such passion, soul, and intelligence that I'm sure that if he could hear it, Rachmaninov himself would be moved to tears.
