About the Artist
Tyren GRFX was born and raised in Yonkers, NY, and first started writing and singing at the age of 9. He has consistently been involved with the arts of poetry and singing ever since. His first major performance was at the age of 17 at Fordham University. The emergence of this young, exciting poet was completed when he was first published in Fordham's poetry anthology in 1991, an achievement that GRFX calls one of his “biggest thrills.” Another one of his greatest accomplishments was his first paid appearance at the Shark Bar in 1994, where he performed with other noted poets such as Jessica Care Moore and Shariff Simmons.

Illustrating his diverse tastes and comprehensive understanding of fine art, GRFX cites a myriad of different artists such as his father, Shakespeare, Dante, Aretha Franklin, Donny Hathaway, and Ralph Ellison as huge influences on his development as a poet and singer. His style can best be described as “smoothed out, complex without being complicated.” GRFX is a skilled conversationalist, and his storytelling ability is evident in all his masterpieces. His goal is to always take his audience on a sensual, exhilarating journey, and to “do something that people can look at as classic, timeless, something that is germane to any time period.”

GRFX's vision is one of collective support and growth. He seeks to make his art profitable, and to create financial opportunities not only for himself but for fellow artists as well. As he states, “I want to put money in the hands of myself and other artists while making art that we want to do, without catering to some corporate ideology.” GRFX's resolute desire to remain true to his craft is further demonstrated when he declares, “I'm trying to do what I feel is right, without attempting to fit in, even if it may not work.” However, this does not mean that he wishes to produce works that are not accessible to all people. As he astutely proclaims, “I'm against making art that people don't understand.” He summarizes his overall approach to his work when he asserts, “I want to popularize the underground without making it commercial, and I strive to help us keep control over our art.” It is apparent that this critical analysis and his calculating demeanor are two traits that will ensure his future success.

GRFX's lyrical prowess and melodious sound has graced several recordings. His appearances include the Jazz Poets Society's live album on 5th Child Records, the Eargasms poetry compilation on Manic/Mercury Records, the Huge Voodoo album on Ninja Tunes Records. GRFX has also teamed with Craig Knight, from the poetry collective A Touch of R.E.A.L.L.I.T.Y., and E. Joaquin, a former producer for Akynele & Queens' Mussolini, to form the magnetic Saturn Return. GRFX will release his eagerly anticipated debut album The Beautiful Daye in the spring of 2001 on Underground Artworks Entertainment Records.

The world should prepare to be hit by an innovative, sonic force. GRFX is set to transform the poetry and music worlds with his intelligent, arousing tales and his unique view of the world. Simply stated his legacy will be that of “a writer who did what he wanted and helped people do what they want.” The beautiful day is upon us. It is now time to sit back and bask in the glow of this radiant artist at work.

Product Description
The Beautiful Daye is a novella written in Soul. It is a journey through a relationship the listener can observe with their ears and feel with their spirit. Love. Conceived and created by tyren (grfx), a Brooklyn based/Yonkers bred poet and vocalist; “the beautiful daye” is a simple story of love found; love lost.

The first release from Underground Artworks Entertainment, LLC (Brooklyn, NY), the album fuses poetry and vocals seamlessly. Rather than engaging in spoken word over music the poetry is set to the rhythm of the music. The songs are poetic in origin but melodic and well constructed. An extension of the soul music masters of the past, “the beautiful daye” is lounge music for the urbanite but a reminder of days past for their parents. Fans of the neo-soul movement, underground hip-hop, rare-grooves and ambient soul will enjoy immensely.

4 out of 5 stars Soul and R&B show's it's strength and longevity..........2002-01-19

One thing is for sure- This is not the same old, same old that you hear on the local radio station. Old folks will sit back in their rocking chair and reminisce on the front porch with this album playing at low volume, while the b-boys will have the album bumpin' in the trunk with their sweetheart in the passenger seat. Tyren does an excellent job of resurrecting the classic sounds and styles of old school R&B and Soul and twists the two into his own special brew titled "the beautiful daye".
The only reason this album was not given a 5 was because there is room on the disk to fill up. After playing the CD straight through about 48 time's in my car, I finally passed the CD along for DJ use. Tracks 2, 8, 9, and 17 will catch any listeners ear. Purchase the CD, you'll be helping out wonderfull independent artists and getting more value then buying a tank of gas for the car.
