If you like this kind of music you will love this CD. A must for any classic collection. Always & Forever will still "melt your heart away".
The Best of Heatwave: Always & Forever.......2007-02-12
Great CD - It took me back a few years and reminded me of all the great music of the decade. Enjoy!
Fantastic!.......2007-02-07
Who could ever forget such classic songs such as "The Groove Line","Always and Forever",Eyeballin', and "Boogie Nights"? This band truly covered the R&B charts with these top hits, and made their mark in the annals of the music world. These songs have stood the test of time and are still very popular today as they were back then. One of the things the listener will find is the band was very well rounded and was very diverse in their musical talents. From start to finish, this album will definately get your hands clapping and your toes tapping.
This CD is incredible..........2007-01-12
How can you miss with songs like Grooveline, Boogie Nights and Always and Forever?!?! Heatwave generated some of their own heat in the 80's and this compilation CD captures the best of their talents.
Heatwave Brought The Heat.......2006-10-17
Heatwave were the thang during the late '70s. Dance music was at it's height and "The Groove Line" flew up the charts. It became one of their biggest hits and one of the biggest records that year. You couldn't go to a club without hearing "The Groove Line" or "Boogie Nights". Of course they had more singles outside their dance cuts. "Always & Forever" one of their most enduring hits ever. The song became a major popular hit among R&B fans. It's a out the box classic slowjam and many people have later used the record for their weddings. "Mind Blowing Decisions" is one of their smoothest singles and "Ain't No Half Steppin" became a popular radio aired track during it's album release and it has also been used as a standard for Hip-Hop sampling. Get the album if your a fan of old school love songs with meaningful lyrics great singing or dance music but if you're just looking for some great music, this album is good for any music collection.

Great.......2006-03-23
I love this CD, I have the original album so it's great that I was able to have it on CD
Too Hot to Handle..........2005-09-17
Heatwave invaded the U.S. with this first album. "Boogie Nights" took America by storm! But, they showed us other songs like "Super Soul Sister" and "Lay it on me." "All you do is dial" was my secondary song on this collection, since it demonstrated the talents of the Wilder Brothers. I recommend this disc to anyone seeking good 70's music. And, in closing, where is the "Hot Property" disc by Heatwave? I've been waiting 15 years!!
too hot to handle.......2005-08-25
Great cd if you like the 8o's R n B(i think that what its called)which is a time when artists used their head a bit more.
THE NAME FITS LIKE A GLOVE.....................2004-11-28
If you are old enough to remember when the album first came out I don't need to say anything. If this is new to you you are in for a real treat. This is a mixture of great dance music and the prettiest ballads you will ever here. This group was half what's happening now and old school all wrapped in a rare package truly a one of a kind magic that will probably never come around again. TRUST ME YOU BUT THIS ONE AND YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. (IF ANYONE KNOWS HOW TO GET THE ALBUM HOT PROPERTY BY HEATWAVE LET US ALL KNOW FOR THAT IS A TRUE GEM)
Sounds Like A Debut.......2004-10-05
Okay, okay now I am a STONE Heatwave fan.I have every studio
album they made and listen to them every chance I get.I have this CD too and here's what I think-this is Heatwave's debut.
It's probably the first time this hard core live band ever stepped into a recording studio and it features several of the
bands classics-the brooding dance-based "Boogie Nights",the
rhythm based funk of "Ain't No Half Steppin'",the unforgettable
sweet soul ballad "Always And Forever" and the chunky title cut.
What's interesting though is how much,on the rest of this
album,Heatwave are trying to copy KC & The Sunshine Band,Brass
Construction,Rufus and other funk and disco groups of the time.
It's not nearly as individual as as brilliant albums such as
'Central Heating' and 'Hot Property' were because Heatwave
downplay their jazzier leanings in favor of simple party music.
And while tunes like the slinky "Lay It On Me" and the mean funk
of "Super Soul Sister" are very good they're not as transcendant
as the sound this band would later develope, and I will point out
I'm highly biased in this opinion too!
And the album closer, the silly "Beat Your Booty" is just
plain embarrassing-the only real Heatwave clinker due to it's
unbelievably stupid lyrics. So I suggest to anyone interested
in Heatwave's music (and you should be) pick up 'Central Heating' first and then go chronologically from their until
1982's 'Current' (that is if you still own a turn table) and get
'Too Hot To Handle' last because it just isn't a complete portrait of Heatwave's dynamic dance-funk hybrid usually is.Not
terrible but not a classic either.

Music at its best!!!.......2007-03-28
Heatwave is by far one of my favorite bands period. The music, Rod Temperton's lyrics, along with Johnnie Wilder's melodic vocals create magic. All of the songs on this album are incredible, but my favorite is "Star Of A Story", one of the most dark, yet beautiful songs I've heard. The bassline really sets the song off. Check out this album, you wil not regret it.
Last great Heatwave album.......2006-08-10
Its a shame this great band only made 2 great albums. When Heatwave's songwriter/keyboardist Rod Temperton left the group after this album, Heatwave went downhill. Almost every song on this album is jammin'. Star Of A Story is Heatwave's greatest song. I was told by a former Heatwave member that Rod quit the band because lead singer Johnnie Wilder stole one of his songs. Thats the music business for ya.
It's Funky, It's Groovy, It's Heatwave!.......2006-04-24
Heatwave has put out some of the greatest music I've ever heard. This whole album is just killer. It starts out with "Put The Word Out" which is a great uptempo tune. A great groove, with funky guitar riffs, and punching horns. What a great tune. Next, is "Send Out For Sunshine". This song starts out with a real funky groove in the bass, and then it gradually leads into this great chorus that any music lover will like. It builds up to the chorus perfectly. Next, is "Central Heating" which is the funkiest tune on here. A great funk guitar riff in the beginning of the song, and then it developes this funky bounce that is really quite catchy. The next tune is "Happiness Togetherness" which is a nice slow song separates itself from the rest of the album by being more laid back. Yet, melodically it's really nice. This song was written by J.Wilder who also wrote "Mind Blowing Decisions". "The Groove Line" is the next song which is really good. Uptempo, funky, and groovy. It is a really good song. A great groove in the bass and funky guitar riffs and punching horns as well as a great melody make this a Heatwave classic. Next, is "Mind Blowing Decisions". A nice slow song that has a great melody with nice instrumentation. Following that tune, is "Star of the Story", a nice slow song that has an eerie beginning, and kind of a mysterious beginning to it. It has a very unique melody, and feel to it. It's not my personal favorite, but it's nice and it will grow on you. The next song is "Party Poops". This song is funky, uptempo, and carefree. I gurantee, you'll dance to this one! Very catchy, and very likeable. It's very "Heatwave". Meaning, it has a funky groove to it, with a sort of disco feel to it. It's very effective. "Party Poops" is a very good song. Finally, this great album wraps up with "Leavin' for a Dream". This is a slow song, with a nice melody. It's very soothing and you'll like it. Overall, this album is excellent. It's worth buying, especially if you like funk, r&b, soul, or just fun pop music. This album would not be what it is if were not for the genius of Rod Temperton who wrote 7 of the 9 tracks of this album and wrote everything off of another great Heatwave album "Too Hot To Handle". Rod is one the greatest songwriters of all time. However his most acclaimed work is not with Heatwave, but ironically is with Michael Jackson. He wrote many of MJ's hits such as "Thriller", "Off The Wall", "Rock With You", "Burn this Disco Out" and more. Those are all great songs, and if you dig Heatwave, check out Michael Jackson (Especially his album "Off the Wall" which has the same kind of sound as Heatwave). This album truly is terrific, and I like it a lot. It's something that every music fan should own.
The Star of the Story..........2005-09-17
Heatwave became my favorite group in 1977 with the album "Too Hot to Handle." Central Heating was their second American release. My favorite tunes on this collection is "Happiness Together, Send out for Sunshine and, of course, The Star of a Story - at five minutes, a well crafted song that I can listen to all day! This disc featured dance, r&b and disco/pop. Something special for the 70's music fan. Five stars! (But then, I am biased!!!!)
Quite An Appropriate Title-Pretty Torrid Stuff!.......2003-07-17
It would be fitting to descirbe individual track from
"Central Heating" but I can't-it simply must be heard from
beginning to end.Beyond strong musicianship,top-flight songwriting, clever lyrical wordplay and BEYOND INCREDIBLE groove
power are only a few of this albums highlites.I know this album
backwards and forwards-having heard the worn-out 8-track since I
was a little boy.Having it on CD does nothing to detract from
it's overall funky intensity. From "Put The Word Out" to it's
finale "Leaving For A Dream" it's a nonstop good time with a
little partying,a little wry social commentary and some plain
old fashioned romance thrown in for good measure.Unbelievable!

THE GOLDEN VOICE OF THE BROADWAY DIVA.......2006-01-08
For more than 25 years Patti LuPone has been one of the greatest female performers in the modern musical theatre. During that time she became renown not only for her capability to portray strong characters, but also for her amazing vocal power, which enabled her to sing the most demanding scores the musical business has to offer. Before we get to the CD at issue here, here is the basic info about Ms. LuPone's career.
After completing her training with the first class of the Drama Division of New York's Juilliard School, she began her career as a founding member of John Houseman's The Acting Company playing a variety of leading roles, both on and off-Broadway and on tour throughout the United States. Among her first roles were Rosamund in the 1976 production of Robert Waldman's and Alfred Uhry's "The Robber Bridegroom" and "The baker's wife" in the Stephen Schwartz's piece of the same title. Her big brake came in 1979 when she wowed New York audiences with her stunning portrayal of Eva Peron in the 1979 Broadway production of Andrew Lloyd Webber's Evita. The electrifying magnetism of her vocals and her strong stage presence earned her the Tony award as a best actress in a musical for 1980. The 80-is saw her tackling a large variety of parts, such as Vera Simpson in "Pal Joey", Nancy in "Oliver", a truly moving Fantine in the London production of "Les Miserables" and a charming Reno Sweeney in the 1987 revival of Cole Porter's "Anything goes". She was also no stranger to the TV screen at the same time, appearing, among other things, for four seasons of "Life goes on". In the 1993/94 season, Patti mesmerized the London audience as the first and for many still the definite Norma Desmond in ALW's Sunset Boulevard. Unfortunately, due to the whim of the show's American backers, her Broadway contract was canceled, and she won a hefty out-of court settlement.
This CD came out in 1995; two years after her successful double CD live concert performance in LA. This was a somewhat different project, since it featured a big, Hollywood Bowl orchestra and was recorded in a studio. Yet despite the fact Patti is on the cover of this album, she only takes about half of the total 60 minutes on this disc. The rest of the tracks are the beautifully arranged solo numbers of Irving Berlin tunes, played with bravura by the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, conducted by John Mauceri, such as "Something to dance about", "It's a lovely day today", "This is the army", "God bless America" and a few more.
But despite that fact, the real asset of this recording lies in Patti LuPone's soaring vocal interpretations of the Irving Berlin's songs. This was not an easy task, especially when most of these tunes were done before by the names such as Ethel Merman, some of which became her signature pieces.
Patti managed to overcome this obstacle in the best of ways. Whether it's her interpretation of the title song, `Heathwave', `Lonely Heart', or the witty `Doin' what comes natur'lly' from the musical `Annie Get Your Gun', one can't help but feel as if these songs were written especially for her and performed here for the first time. Patti's big vocals and incredible range blend perfectly with the big, brassy sound of the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.
Thusly she managed to make these well known songs and tunes truly her own, giving them the special touch of her unique vocal power. This CD is a must have for the LuPone fans, but a lover of Irving Berlin tunes or of the outstanding vocal backed by a big band should also not be disappointed.
A Pleaser! A Treasure! A Joy!.......2001-07-10
There have been very few performers with the power, range and clarity that Ms LuPone has. Her voice is crystal clear and her range is large, so the songs that she sings on this album are all great! From the beginning to the end you'll be amazed at her vocal ability.
Ms. Lupone makes everything her own.......2001-05-31
I've, like most, have heard most of these Irving Berlin songs. However Patti has away of singing them that make them sound fresh and new. Much like she did with Cole Porter's Anything Goes. After this album, I've heard others sing these songs, and I find myself saying, "Thats pretty good, but I like Patti Lupone's version better."
If you like the classic broadway, sung by a classic singer this album is a must.
True Star Quality!.......1999-06-26
Patti Lupone sings Irving Berlin with ease! She fits each song well whether she is singing a jumpy dance song ("Let Yourself Go," "Putting on the Ritz"), a heartfelt love song ("Ms. Lonely Heart/Always"), or a tender lullaby ("Count Your Blessings").
As for Ms. Lupone's renditions of the songs associated with Ethel Merman -- there was and always will be one and only one like Ethel Merman. However, what little brass Ms. Lupone is missing is made up for by tenderness and elegance. Her rendition of "Moonshine Lullaby" is just as effective as the original.
Patti Lupone is the Ethel Merman of our generation. This disc is a must-have for both fans of show music and of vintage American pop!
Great Voice, Great Songs, Great CD !.......1999-03-28
Patti LuPone signs Irving Berlin's songs as they were meant to be sung. From "Heat Wave" to "Count your blessings instead of Sheep" she is in great voice and it is a wonderful album from beginning to end.
She is greatly supported by John Mauceri and the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra. John Mauceri and Patti LuPone revive these songs in great arrangements.
Add this to your collection. You won't regret it.

Customer Reviews:
Quite good, actually.......2007-04-27
I decided to buy this CD for two reasons: firstly, I bought "Blue Touch" a few years ago on a whim and found that I liked it alot and secondly, I read somewhere or the other that Will Kennedy was on it. He also played on "Blue Touch" and the tunes he played on are my favourites on that particular CD.
The bad news is that he only plays on two of the tracks here, track #7 (which is pure Will Kennedy and totally satisfying) and track #10 on which his drumming is much more generic. It could've been any number of people, in my view. Also rather disappointing is the fact that drum loops are used instead of real drums on track #1, #2, #3, #8 and #9.
But the good news is that John Lewis more than picks up the slack and displays great flair on the drums on track #4, #5, #6 and #12. And of course this is really about Greg Karukas himself and while musically he's definitely not in the same category as say, Keith Jarrett or Brad Mehldau, in 'smooth jazz' terms, he puts together some pretty pleasant sounding tunes. He's also joined by some other well known names, including Paul Jackson Jr on guitar, Luis Conte on percussion and Kirk Whalum & Dave Koz on saxophone.
All in all, quite good, actually. One of those CDs I love working to. Just as long as you don't consider it a 'proper' jazz CD.
An inspired selection, an overwhelming talent!.......2006-05-03
It's rigorously impossible to make any list of the major exponents of the smooth jazz in those times without include this hyper talented keyboardist. Greg Karukas admirable musical talent is carved I relief once more with this successful work. He has not only a kaleidoscopic vision about how to ensemble and produce those engaging themes filled with fantastic musical curtains and expressive moods.
This was my second album acquired after Blue touch, and my recommendation is absolute: go for this amazing album.
Heatwave - Fantastic.......2003-10-29
I was very surprised and pleased with the CD. Karukas has a driving power throughout all music on this CD, and all of members of the group are perfectly in sync with every beat in this music. Wonderful!
Slick,vacuous yuppiefunk........2003-10-08
This stuff is pretty antiseptic compared to fresh, funky, slightly edgy stuff, like Philippe Saisse,Yellowjackets, and some of Joe Sample's work.I think Kenny G and The Rippingtons(who have some good stuff)brought "Jazz" to the Yuppie generation in a nice, shiny package, and then clean forgot about content.
My Favorite CD !.......2003-08-20
This cd is amazing!!!! I can't stop listening to it. When I clean house, It's on. When I'm driving, It's on. When I went to the beach this summer, It was on, in my headset. When I work out, it's on. I'm going to have to order another one because I may wear this one out!! It is fabulous, from start to finish!

BOOGIE NIGHTS!!!!!!.......2006-04-04
I've never listened to Heatwave before other that the few songs I heard on the radio. So, when I picked this album up in my local library, I was surprised to hear how smooth and mellow the songs were. This album is as cool as they come. And, with one of my favorite songs, "Groove Line", this album is the joint. GROOVY, JACK!!!!!!

Probably the Best Heatwave Album for Casual Fans.......2001-02-28
There probably aren't too many die-hard Heatwave fans out there - probably a lot more just like a few songs by them, and would like to get them on CD. If that's you, this is your best bet. All three of their big hits - "Always and Forever", "Boogie Nights" and my favorite "Groove Line" - are here, along with seven lesser-known slices of late-70's pop. The only other ballad, "Happiness Togetherness", is all right, but suffers from an unwieldly chorus sang too many times. "Gangster of the Groove" was rather uninteresting, and I found the rather catchy number "Eyeballin'" harder to listen to than I should've - must be that weird title! The songs get better as the album goes along. "Send Out for the Sunshine" has good never-say-die lyrics; I'll have to throw it on next time I have a lousy day to get through. "Posin' 'til Closin'" is a light-hearted fun look at various disco denizens. "The Big Guns" as an (almost) instrumental can be taken any way you want it to, but it's catchy. And for less than six bucks?! Unless you're a completist, an album purist, or a millionaire, this is the one you'll want.
What A Tight Band.......2000-07-27
Heatwave always gave the goods.they had slow jams&Could get their Grooves Going.ALways&Forever alone breaks Hearts.it's one of those Timeless Slow-Jams that Will be here Forever. So many Great Talents&Minds here.these Cats have Chops.they Lived up to their Musical Name.their Music always had Warmth&Soul.

Last Rites.......2006-07-20
Snobbish RIO fans delight in the fact that the music they listen to (Henry Cow, Magma, Art Zoyd, etc.) is oh-so serious, complex, and only for an elite few who "get it." But of course only a seriously insecure listener would deign to use the word "progressive rock." First of all, none of these groups play "rock" in any sense that the word can be used and understood. Secondly, most legititmate "classical" musicians would laugh uncontrollably at the ineptness displayed by such groups listed above in trying desperately to achieve some semblance of "artistic credibility." Univers Zero is actually one of the few RIO groups (a label that UZ members all completely reject, by the way)who simply perform this kind of music without any pretensions or delusions whatsoever. Heatwave is consequently about as good as futuristic chamber rock gets. "The Funeral Plain" (nice reference to Frank Herbert's Dune series)is utterly intense and is a chilling reminder that space and death are one and the same. Ignore the compound meter, the syncopation, the dissonance derived from Bartok and Ligeti. Forget the chic references to existentialism and social realism. Simply revel in this sonic portrait of a godless universe inexorably marching toward its entropic doom. The rest of the disc, though not quite up to this exalted standard, is still nevertheless good enough to merit kudos from any dedicated listener of musique outre.
Univers Zero tries prog rock.......2002-09-13
I have almost every Univers Zero album and find Heatwave to be the most comprehendable to listeners used to rock based instrumentation.
Heatwave offers more guitar than we've heard from Univers Zero and almost a backbeat on the first three songs. By The Funeral Plain we creep back into the ultra gloom of classic UZ's first three albums.
I love 1313 and it's brilliant take on updated chamber goth but I love Heatwave because to almost the same degree it does the same with rock sounds, in particular synths, guitar and an actual rhythm section.
The King crimson comparisons are well stated. UZ does at times sound very similar to the Crims. But they still are far from traditional. It is almost absurd and highly ironic how fans of older UZ works can't accept change when that is what good progressive music is all about!
If you like harder edged progressive rock or angular classical music Univers Zero is a band not to miss and Heatwave is a good album to start. Other than Uzed any previous CD is also an eye opening listen. Later works are uneven but still far more interesting than most of UZ's peers.
At their worst UZ is compelling and challenging. There are no bad Univers Zero albums, just different shades on similar themes.
Here there be monsters..........2000-12-14
Univers zero, for those who take the time to really listen, makes much of the most powerful rock or fusion jazz sound like "How Much Is That Little Doggy In The Window?". For those who try it out once and/or as background music may miss a wonderful opportunity. This is not about musical intellect- just attention paid. "Heatwave", while not their first, is an excellent starting point for those entering from the rock side of the fence. For jazz folk, "Uzed" or "1313" are more suitable. An amazing journey through the part of the mind that knows no fear or weakness. Enjoy.
Toodaloo!
Creepy neo-classical masterpiece.......2000-06-13
Univers Zero - Heatwave
WARNING: First of all this is not pop music, never was, never will be, never was intended to be. Belgian band Univers Zero were part of the late seventies musical / political RIO (rock-in-opposition) movement and as such people looking for a quick top forty fix will tend to wonder what the hell is going on. Much of their material is actually closer to modern classical than to rock music, except for the intensity of the music, which is to put it mildly, very powerful. Of all the RIO bands Univers Zero definitely are the most sinister and spooky. Their early acoustic albums (1313 and Heresie) featured dissonant violins and very creepy basoon / oboe lines. Like any good band they kept evolving and by Heatwave (their final album before disbanding in 1987) their instrumental lineup had changed to include a lot of electric instruments. This significantly changed their sound and gives the album more of a prog rock feel. This is especially noticeable on the first three tracks. They're still dark, after all with titles like "Bruit dans les murs (Noise inside the walls)", what would you expect? However they're not as positively creepy as the earlier compositions were. Oboe and bassoon are conspicuous in their absence though clarinet and sax manage to fill in ably enough. In contrast to other albums, Heatwave places more of an emphasis on synthesizers, which really does the album justice on the fourth track, the sidelong "Funeral Plain". Stark, repetitive piano notes are complemented and enveloped by creepy synth noises and generate a really spooky atmosphere. It's one of those songs where if you fell asleep while listening to it (as if...) you'd have nightmares for weeks. Amazing. I would highly recommend this to any one interesting in groundbreaking music, just don't play it on your first date....

Always and Forever.......2007-05-09
Well....I must say I was alittle disappointed. If you absolutely love Always and Forever in its entirety, you will be slightly upset to find that they have decided to cut bits and piece out of this timeless classic. On the upside you do get tracks like "Groove Line", and "Mind Blowing Decisions". Over all it is pretty good.
Excellent vocalists a bit weak on compositions.......2007-02-08
From reviewing this cd I would say there are 2or 3 good sounding songs on it, that were no doubt popular at the time the group was active. However as with many groups of that era, they lacked good song writers or song writer skills to produce a number of hits.
Solid gold 70's disco funk........2005-10-23
Rain Shine, Don't Mind. Got to keep on dancin', keep on dancin'. This is the music that made the 70's worth listening too. The 1978 remix of Grooveline is fantastic and easily downloadable FYI. It's a fresh breath of funk for all the kids to get down to, even if they are your parents. So party like it's 1979 all over again. Just don't forget you still have to work the next day.
Heatwave... Great dance of the '70s..........2004-04-13
I have MCPS-Tring collection called "Boogie nights"... That'a great, but haven't any cover note, excapt the songlist and authors... All songs are written by Temperton - Jones... Temperton is a "name not new"... But I can't remember "where"... And Jones... Is he "Mick Jones", Sppoky Tooth, Foreigner, Big Audio Dynamite, Friedricks - Goldman - Jones, Johnny Hallyday, Sylvie Vartan?
Tell me, please... Thanks

A pleasant surprise..........2001-01-16
I bought this cd only because I wanted to hear their two most popular songs - Boogie Nights and Always and Forever. However, I ended up liking everything else much better. This is a good bet for those who like the disco sound and dreamy 70s soul ballads but are sick of hearing the same songs on dance, soul and retro type stations.
