Mike Devlin, Victoria Times Colonist, March 18, 2001
"His voice, a velvet croon suitable for radio of any format, is a weapon unto itself"
About the Artist
Chin Injeti; multi-instrumentalist, producer, talented song-writer and co-founder of the pop/funk/soul group Bass is Base, is releasing his first solo record. Since the split of Bass is Base in 1997, Chin has forged ahead, recording his new album and continuing to write and produce with, and for, a variety of top artists. Securing a publishing contract with EMI Music Publishing, Chin has written with the likes of Ben Mink (of KD Lang fame), Colin James, David 'Genie in a Bottle' Frank, Christopher Ward, Craig Northey and Andy Kim. Chin has also written and recorded with Mike Mangini, Canadian rapper/singer Snow and recently remixed the track "Pinch Me" for The Barenaked Ladies.
Born in India, Chin moved to Canada at age five. His musical influences began early on in his family, listening to his musician father sing traditional Telugu songs (A South Indian language). Diagnosed with polio as a child and wheelchair bound until a teenager, Chin's earlier years were spent listening to everything from Stevie Wonder to Van Halen. Then he discovered his true passion - hip hop - when his brother became a DJ: "since I couldn't break dance or mix records, I took up the bass and guitar. Then later on I learned to program the drums and keyboards". Chin spent the early 90s as a producer for artists such as Maestro Fresh Wes, Kish, and Main Source. During this time Chin began recording his own music and eventually released an independent house music single ("I Promise" on Hi Bias Records), which reached the Billboard charts and became a popular underground hit in Italy and England.
Formed in 1994, Bass Is Base was labeled "United Colors of Benetton" for their ethnic diversity, ideas and unique music. The group went on to sell 30, 000 copies of their debut album 'First Impressions For the Bottom Jigglers' and earned a variety of awards including a Juno for best R&B album for 'Impressions' ('95), and a Much Music video award for 'Funkmobile'. Chin also received a SOCAN song writers award for the #1 song, 'I Cry'. As a member of Bass Is Base, Chin had the opportunity to tour with renowned artists such as the Fugees, Ziggy Marley, The Roots, Busta Rhymes, Jamiroquai, and A Tribe Called Quest.
'Day Dreaming' is Chin's debut solo album. He co-produced with David Kershaw, best known as Sarah McLachlan's keyboardist during her Solace and Fumbling Towards Ecstasy eras. Unapologetically accessible, the 14 tracks cover the urban pop waterfront with style, imagination and unshakable melodicism. There are elements of gospel, rock, folk, jazz and R&B, all delivered from a "soul" (as in body and soul) perspective. The video-supported lead single 'Anything' is built on the twin towers of a poptastic melody line and Chin's trademark bass. 'Don't Let The Boogie Pass' is classic '80s-style pop funk with a smooth glide reminiscent of Off The Wall-era Michael Jackson and 'Give' is a rock-oriented showcase for Chin's multi-dimensional vocals featuring Rhodes piano, mad guitar riffs, heavy organ runs and a singalong chorus. The CD travels from Motown to Memphis, New York to East Compton as it joyously dips into earthy acoustic grooves, b-boy rap, fusion jazz and mainstream pop.

Life Is But A Dream..........2006-08-30
This CD is just pure magic. I know that is such a cliche' thing to say, but it really is. Of course, it really won't appeal to those people who are into EXTREME LIVING...whatever the hell that means, because to me, extreme living is living close to the soul, close to the spirit, close to the Invisible Source that makes and creates all things in and out of Itself.
Debussy was a composer who lived very close to this Invisible Stream. His music reflects a gentleness and yet a strength that flows throughout each composistion. The arrangements are dreamy and mystical and allows one to go into their "inner chamber" and pray in secret to the One who knows their heart as well as their soul.
As much as I love this CD, I tend not to listen to it in the car. I once listened to it while making a routine drive to Santa Monica. The CD stopped and I had somehow missed all of my exits and ended up in Ventura...talk about being in dreamland!
It's a great CD to put in your walkman and go to an outdoor cafe' where you can sip a cafe latte and write poems to an unknown lover whose face you cannot remember, but whose gentle breath is the scent of lavendar...oh, I wax poetic...so sorry...
If you are into quiet and stillness, get this CD...it's truly a breath of fresh air in this noisy, crowded, extreme world we have to be in but not necessarily of...
Peace & Blessings
Beautiful, dreamy.......2006-07-17
This music evokes both emotions and images of life waking up in spring, even being in a magical forest where anything can happen, or floating on clouds. You can just enjoy the music and let your imagination soar or the music can take you into that trance-like state where you can access creative ideas and creative solutions to any problems - and maybe they just dissolve of their own accord.
Fabulous collection !.......2005-09-13
If you like Debussy - whom I have heard called one of the progenitors of ambient music - you will love having his most inspiring and beautiful works together on one cd. These works are tranquil and serene, and yet they don't fade into the background - no matter what you are doing - because they are true art. When this cd is playing you can't help but listen and sigh. My cats love this cd, too.
An excellent introduction to Debussy and French music.......2005-06-30
Compilation CD's like this are an excellent first CD to purchase when first exploring a new composer or style of music ("Expressionism" in Debussy's case). And this Philip's "Set your Life to Music" collection is usually a sure and safe way to do that given their well thought-out selections, themes and quality recordings. This CD here contains many of the most popular, lyrical and enchanting works of the 19th-century French composer, Claude Debussy. The range of selections are diverse and satisfying: from his major solo piano works through his top chamber music (for 2-5 instruments) to the full-blown orchestral selections of great imagery and dreaminess that can transport one into another world of great serenity. (But, there are enough sudden changes in loudness and rhythm to upset any notions of perfect bliss and keep the daydreamer from falling asleep - hence the title, "for Daydreams" and not "for Bedtime" like in other offerings in this Philips' series) Regardless, this CD is an excellent introduction to Claude Debussy as well as being overall relaxing music to enrich one's life.
One interesting music history tidbit on Debussy that might interest the new listener: Even though Debussy did not like the label, his music was labeled "Expressionism" for the similarities to what the French artists like Monet were doing at the same time. In Debussy's case, his intent was to create "emotional impressions" with music that evoked specific moods and images in the mind - not unlike what the "impressionistic painters" were trying to do on canvas using pure color and form to evoke the fleeting, emotional moment of a landscape scene. "Prelude of the Afternoon of the Fawn" is a good example of this dreamy, lingering, emotive style of music.
Dream and Classical music are magic.......2005-02-16
This CD is one of the best among its classical collections. (bach for breakfast is my one of them) It puts me to any place I dream of whenever I listen to this cd. It usually brings me into outer space, or sometimes go to the sky or under the sea. You can also just sit back and relax while listening to the music. In addition, once I get mad or not calm enough, I just put this cd on and it cures my anger.
Classical music is magic.

Morris Day's best solo effort! PERIOD! This is a reunion of sorts with "The Time", due to the fact that former members of The Time Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis produced 2 tracks on the album, one of them being Day's best solo song in "Fishnet". Overall this album gives you the feel of the MORRIS DAY EFFECT!!

Album Description
The compositions in the album "Harmony Grove" were motivated by two core things: personal events over the past year and writing songs into which I could integrate new techniques I have been learning from my piano mentor Jim Sempeles. Overall, the year has brought a great deal of joy and some sorrow.
The song First Light is about the first light of dawn coming through our bedroom's 9 foot picture window, waking us to the day. The Reluctant Ballerina was written about a timid, reluctant dancer coming into her own as the music sets her free, something which anyone with a true love for music can understand. On a more somber note, the song Elementals was written as my mother's illness progressed to her passing, and the song Rising expresses the peace and relief of her transition. Nature's Fury is about an approaching thunderstorm, expressing the feeling you get while looking at the ominous dark cloud in the distance and hearing the rumbling thunder and seeing the flash of lightning. Last but not least, The Chicken Chase paints a picture of our chickens as they scurry about, chasing each other for the tastiest morsels of food.

Great Piano Music.......2007-07-21
Relaxing CD, I spend a lot of time on the road and this eases the drive
from Solo Piano Publications.......2005-05-03
"Harmony Grove" is Greg Maroney's fourth and most inspiring album to date of original piano solos. What a great album! Drawn from life experiences of the past year as well as interpretations of his natural surroundings in rural Pennsylvania, Maroney captures a full spectrum of emotions and musical colors, and presents them in an accessible form that deepens with each listening. Maroney has been studying the piano since he was five, and the naturalness of his playing comes from one who has such an intense and intimate relationship with the instrument that it is truly an extension of who he or she is.
"The Reluctant Ballerina" is one of my favorites. It tells about a timid ballerina who comes into her own as the music sets her free. The beautiful melody becomes more flowing as the dancer lets herself go, and it's easy to picture the shy dancer becoming one with the music and movement as she gets swept away, forgetting her inhibitions. "Elementals" was composed during the time of Maroney's mother's illness to her passing. Much darker in mood, I can imagine Maroney sitting at the piano late into the night, working through the tangle of emotions that fill a person at such a time. This is a passionate and very personal piece, and the emotions are clear. The next piece, "Rising," describes the relief and peace of his mother's transition. It is also somewhat darker than the other pieces, but there is a strong feeling of hope and celebration. "Long Walk Home" is a gorgeous piece. A bit melancholy and introspective, it is in no rush to go anywhere, and seems to be drinking in whatever it encounters along the way. "Beneath the Sycamore" is full of grace and longing, and could easily be a lovely movie theme. "Nature's Fury" is a powerful depiction of an approaching thunder storm. From watching the ominous black clouds to feeling a swirling wind to seeing the brilliant flash of lightning, this is a great piece! The closing track, "The Chicken Chase," is huge fun. Anyone who has experienced chickens scurrying around the yard looking for food can relate. I could also visualize children running after the chickens, trying to catch one, and laughing all the way. This piece must be exhilarating to play!
"Harmony Grove" is very highly recommended!
A Very Harmonious Grove.......2004-10-26
The solo piano pieces on Greg Maroney's "Harmony Grove" communicate to me a deep appreciation of the simple works and pleasures that make life meaningful. This album dug into the soil in my soul and grew on me. Each time I listen I hear layers of life experience coming through as images in my mind, discovering each piece a little differently every time. I really enjoy Greg's touch on the piano. Not too heavy, with flowing and natural dynamics. The track "Elementals" has an almost classical sound, similar to Satie in sections, but with a modern voice. "Rising" brought tears to my eyes with the joy and relief that I hear in it, as well as underlying memories blended with a touch of sadness. I love the track "September". Its heartfelt passion and love come through in purest form like a September morning wrapping its arms around us in a simple and perfect embrace. The title track of the album "Harmony Grove" has a simple and heartfelt melody that speaks to me of growth, new beginnings and the bittersweet changes that time brings. I love this piece. "The Fury" also has a classical sense about it and is reminiscent of dark clouds leading to pouring rain. The album ends in a whimsical mood with "The Chicken Chase", an upbeat and joyous exit to a beautiful journey through a very harmonious grove! The album is exquisitely recorded; the piano sound clear with a beautiful tone. The charming cover artwork is perfect for the mood of the album. Overall this album is like a soundtrack to peaceful rolling hills in golden sunshine and roads leading home to open arms. I look forward to returning to it many times.
This is the most amazing cd yet!.......2004-03-30
"Wow" is about the only thing I can say after listening to this CD for the first time. What an amazing pianist! The more I listen to Harmony Grove, the more impressed I become. The sheer power and clarity that seem to come so naturally to Greg creates a wonderful atmosphere and lets us enjoy the emotion of each song. If you have any appreciation at all of music, I would suggest this CD.
Stunned by the Sheer Creativity.......2004-03-17
"Harmony Grove" is derived from my rural life experiences over the past years. Living in the pastoral countryside of Pennsylvania has brought great delight and pleasure to me." ~Greg Maroney
Depending on my mood, I respond to this CD in different ways. I have cried my way through the entire CD or felt like my heart was flying like a butterfly over an open expanse of wild flowers. If you are "in love" this will heighten the sensation of floating, but if you are in a pensive mood, this will send you into utter longing of the soul.
When I first listened to Greg Maroney's Solo Piano, I had no idea his music would affect me so profoundly. I have rarely heard a piano played with such a deeply intuitive quality all while the music retains an element of fresh natural beauty. This is not dark music (although "Nature's Fury" seems to speak of approaching storms), it is music that brings out whatever you are longing for and enhances that feeling. The music itself is brilliant in its light qualities and playful in its rhythm.
"Elementals" is a mingling of love, loss and resolution.
"Rising" seems to portray the beauty of a relationship that continues no matter the distance between hearts.
"The Reluctant Ballerina" is exquisite and gives me chills. This music evokes images of a Ballerina's tentative steps as she learns to fully embrace her talents. As the musical story progresses we feel that she becomes less aware of those watching her as she spins in her own world of fantasy.
"Nature's Fury" stunned me into silence. I have rarely heard music this beautiful. I also love "Long Walk Home."
"The Chicken Chase" had me laughing because I raised chickens in my childhood in Africa and I vividly remember the day they escaped one by one from the open cage.
Greg Maroney's playing takes your heart to new levels and is a peaceful retreat. I have fallen asleep on many nights with his music wandering in my dreams.
Also look for "Sentinel," which I hope to review soon. "Castle of Wonders" has me intrigued.

Strangely irresistible........2007-03-11
As the title suggests, there's no bangin' techno on "Latenight Dreaming". In fact, fans of Lars Dorsch and Tom Dams (like Moodyman and Theo Parish) are going to be taken aback by their latest album.
The publicity blurb proclaims that they take their inspiration from "Antonio Carlos Jobim, Carole King, Hall & Oates, Brian Wilson, Lovin' Spoonful, Creed Taylor, Marcos Valle, the Zombies, Jay Dilla, Terry Callier, Linda Lewis and Soundtrack/Library music, amongst a host of others".
If that sounds too good to be true, I suppose it is but the eleven tracks do seem to have elements of all.
"Fly" itself is a flavoured summery flavoured pop song featuring Hamburg's Oezlem Cetin on vocals. Michelle Amador from San Francisco sings "Home" with a touch of really relaxed Mia Todd Doi about it.
Immaculate production throughout -- but wait until you hear the instrumental "Beach Towel", super late night dreams of sunny days without a care in the world. And if that got you in the mood, "Sleeping Beauty" is another exquisite soundscape.
Making their names in the nu-jazz boom, "Father, Father" is more in their natural home, although the twangy guitar (how many now?) adds a contemporary feel. And for the closing track, there's the cinematic melodrama of "Requiem/All & Everything In Between"; think of a Jona "Stop The Cavalry" Lewie on sleeping pills.
The opener "All You Ever Wanted" features the vocals of Jerome Stokes and also appears on the preview 12" (with a Marcus Worgull remix of "Father, Father" and a Tony Nwachukwu Remix of "Are We?". The album version of "Are We?" is a very gentle neo-waltz (again sung by Michelle Amador) and it's just the thing to chill out before "Carte Blanche".
All in all a very relaxing CD that's strangely unique and strangely irresistible.
Karma returns..........2006-12-28
As a long-time Karma fan, I was excited to see them resurface with a new album after something like 6 years. So-called Electronic Music has evolved some since their last effort, the still essential "Thrillseekers" album, so I expected something a little different, and this IS something a bit different - less beat-oriented, warmer and more relaxed. There are some beautiful instrumentals here as well as collaborations with several vocalists, all adding up to a seductively enjoyable album. I never thought these two talented Germans got the recognition they deserved a few years back, so I hope they sell a lot of these so they stay in the game. Sound samples, if not available here, may be found at the Juno Records web site.

This album is not his best work, but I still love it!!! :).......2007-02-02
Considering he only had 2 months to write and record this album after a long, tiring tour for Valotte, I'd say he did an excellent job with this. Some of the songs, you can tell, have the potential to being great songs. It's a shame he didn't have more time to polish them. And even as they are, they are good songs to listen to. :)
My favorites songs on this album are Stick Around (Michael J. Fox appeared in the video...COOL!), You Get What You Want (performed with Billy Joel), Coward Till The End, and This is My Day.
If you love Julian Lennon's music, this is a definite must have.

Give It A Break.......2006-09-26
Julian Lennon had the hardest act to follow of any musician-being the spitting image (even musically) of a musical legend. His debut 'Valotte' only validated this and so after his world tour Julian put this album together with Phil Ramone.Compared to the rich variety of pop found on 'Valotte','The Secret Value Of Daydreaming' (from 1986) found Lennon distancing himself from the melodic style of his father and towards a more contemporary sound.Ramone produced these songs with a lot of sonic attributes for a pretty decent mid 80's pop/rock sound, with some very interesting nods to classic rock and jazz fusion along the way.The songs are slick and often end up as more strong grooves then anything else and on "Stick Around","You Got What You Want","I've Seen Your Face" and "Coward To The End" that is exactly what happens. The next five cuts are far more crafted-'Everyday' is the only tune here that really shows John's influence and it is one of the best songs here.On "This Is My Day",'Let Me Tell You",which actually had a very McCartney-like reggae break in the bridge and "You Don't Have To Tell Me" Julian actually offers up three excellent uptempo pop/rock and all have great hooks worthy of his debut. The album ends with the beautiful ballad "Want Your Body",a passionate exploration of longing squarely in the family tradition.True Julian is the first Beatle baby and therefore had some very big shoes to fill but rather then try to be imitative Julian went on being his own individual self."Always Think Twice" is the one song that borrows most from fusion and it points out why this album may be less popular with fans then some of his others-all the songs here tend to be very dark hued and meloncaughly-the lyrics are very cryptic on some of the songs and few of the melodies leap out at you but most land on their feet.Julian proved with this album that his fans were not yet willing to accept him producing denser songs with more jazz and reggae influences that took to develope but rather more concise pop on the line of his debut. To my ears I appreciate 'The Secret Value Of Daydreaming'-it's definately something of a slap in the face to commercialism and (actually) I think John Lennon would be proud to see his son trying something different musically. And it's more then worth hearing too.
Worst Julian Album.......2005-09-09
Julian was rushed back in the studio after his 1985 tour, and he never felt he had the time to do this album the way he wanted. It was produced by Billy Joel's producer, but the whole album just is missing something. Only Stick Around and Want My Body sound like music. The rest is hard to listen to.
