There's everything from ballads to rockers on Bridge to a Legacy, but all of it is infused with an infectious high-octane energy that makes the album a genuine pleasure to listen to. The CD takes off right away, crashing into the opening "Who's Still in Love." While there are plenty of slower numbers on this CD, which in sound and feel testify to Johnson's soul background, they never lack energy. "I Been Missin' U" constantly pushes at the beat, "Half a Love" is a solid duet with Johnson's talented daughter Syleena, "Midnight Woman" is a nice slow shuffle, and "Let's Get It On Again" roams the territory somewhere among rock, blues, and soul. "Piece of the Rock" is an almost-rock tune, and Bridge to a Legacy closes with the toe-tapping, funk- inflected "Sexy Wayz." Despite the lack of up-tempo material, this recording never slows down; it's a high-energy effort all the way. --Genevieve Williams
