2 out of 5 stars Bret Michael's solo album.......2007-07-24

This is not really a tribute album, it's a Bret Michaels solo album with other artists joining in (Bret's friends) using Poison songs.
The best song on the album is 'Fallen angel' - version 2 (Bret singing), the worst song is 'Unskinny Bop' sung by one of bret's friends who is making fun of the song, but that's not the only reason it sux, it also sounds terrible.
Other songs include 'Something to believe in', 'Stand' and 'Every rose has it's thorn' all acoustic and 'Doin as i seen on my tv' from the Crack a smile album all with Bret on vocals and no different to the original versions.
Also includes 'Look what the cat dragged in', 'Talk dirty to me', 'I want action', 'Nothin but a good time' and 'So tell me why' all sung by other artists who perform the songs in there own style which is very different to the original's.
The album is average because of the other artists on it, instead POISON could've done a album of new version's of there classics such as the fallen angel track on this album.
There are true tribute to Poison albums that you can get such as 'Name your Poison', Mamma's fallen angel' and 'Toxic'.

1 out of 5 stars HORRIBLE!!!!!!!!!!!! (No kidding).......2001-03-28

I'm a BIG fan of Poison. I bought this hoping that a well done tribute to a band I've enjoyed for so many years. Well.. If that's what you'd expect too, this is NOT what you're looking for!

Firstly, the songs are (for the most part) very twisted, poorly done "interpretations" with in many cases only the words being the only thing you can recognize from the original. The music (is THIS music?) is awful. Doesn't come close in any sense of the word.

I can't believe Bret Michaels was in charge of this disaster. (Isn't a tribute supposed to originate outside of the band?) I dunno, call me nutty..

To give you an idea how horrible this is, the best thing on it is slightly comedic cover of Unskinny Bop by Pauly Shore. When Pauly Shore at his worst is the best thing going, you KNOW you're in trouble :)

The only purpose this CD serves for me is to make me appreciate Poison's original releases even more. Don't buy it, you'll regret it.

2 out of 5 stars An Insult To The Best Band Ever.......2001-03-25

My Favorite Band of All Time but the worst album of my collection

I just picked up Bret Michaels' "A Salute to Poison" after seeing Bruce from Kiss and Great White was involved in the production figuring it'd be a great rock and roll album. I like some of it, but the fact of the matter is you can't ever out do a band like Poison in terms of greatness.

The majority of the songs are all sung by Bret Michaels himself which salvages a few of them from being total garbage. A few are rap metal, which quite frankly almost made me vomit and then I came to Unskinny Bop. If there is any reason not to buy this album, it's to hear what was done to Unskinny Bop. I don't care if Bret was involved, that song, sorry to say, is an absolute insult to the band Poison, and all of their fans. Who ever decided to do that song like that should be ashamed. Terrible! But, check out the song "Nothin' But a Good TIme", that was done very well, I thought and is the only reason I didn't completely bash this as bad as I wanted to after hearing the first two tracks.

The album is not very good. I say this as a huge Poison fan, and a fan of Bret Michaels, but this is, just as Jon Bon Jovi and Vince Neil, proof why lead singers should not do solo albums with different bands because it simply out no where near as good as their stuff with the bands. Sorry to all of those guys who I respect greatly, but I guess I'm just close minded when it comes to things like that.

Finally, I'd like to once again say that Unskinny Bop is the worst thing I've ever heard in my life and it's worth not buying the album for, Poison isn't rap metal and if they were I wouldn't have ever been a fan of them, and last, but not least, spend your hard earned money on the Poison's Greatest Hits instead. I like Bret a hell of a lot, but on an album with 11 songs, I like 2 of them and shutter at the thought of the rest. And man, Unskinny Bop made me more mad than the fact that the girl on the cover couldn't move her hands for the cover! Thank god Power to the People was nothing like this or I'd have not paid money to see them last summer, or be on a list waiting for tickets this year.

3 out of 5 stars I don't know, aren't tributes supposed to be descent?.......2000-11-08

Man, I'm a #1 Poison fan, saw them live, have all the albums, but this tribute album is well, different. The opening song, Look What the cat dragged in is totally different from the CD released in 1986. It's more a punk feel and its not right, other songs that were remade also sound bad but what should I or anyone expect, its a tribute, a bad one, but a tribute.

4 out of 5 stars Interesting take on the Poison legacy!.......2000-11-01

When I first heard Bret was producing a tribute to Poison songs, I was OK with it. Then i heard some demos and they had Bret singing about 1/2 of the songs...Say what?? Didn't make sense to me to have the lead singer of the band being tributed to be ON the CD. So now I have the CD...and it rocks!! The first song, "Look What the Cat Dragged In" is so different from the original...a more speeded up version with Bret NOT singing on it...very cool! "Talk Dirty To Me", "Nuthin; But A Good Time", "So Tell Me Why" and "Doin' AS I seen On My TV" are speeded up, funkier versions of the originals. "Fallen Angel" and "I Want Action" are blusier and a bit slower, emphasizing the best parts of these songs. The rest...""Something To Believe IN", "Every Rose Has Its Thorn" and "Stand" are acoustic pieces that Bret sings on.

A highlight for me is "Unskinny Bop" that is brutalized by Pauly Shore...and X-rated item you will soon not forget.

The front picture is my favorite of Bret's girl, Kristi Lynn...HOT!!

The worst thing about this CD is the booklet...who plays on what track? No info is given as to the various members and which song they played on.

4 out of 5 stars A bargain collection of showtunes.......2005-08-19

This bargain collection of showtunes is highlighted by the composition of Kurt Weill and the uniquely rolling tongue of Colette Lyons. I have a complaint about this compilation. It includes "Ol' Man River", but it excludes Al Jolson's rendition of "Ol' Man River." Otherwise, this collection gives you ample bang for your buck.
