Customer Reviews:
The past is the future.......2002-04-20
With so many 'new' kinds of music, it's nice to know that 'old' music can hold it's own. These tracks are as fresh today as they were 20+ years ago. A must for any real music fan. CHECK IT OUT!

Break Down For Brotherly Love.......2000-06-20
This is the second compilation on the New England-based brothers to appear on Capitol. There are only 5 cuts common to both albums: big hits "Heaven Must Be Missing An Angel," "It Only Takes A Minute," and "Remember What I Told You To Forget," plus the lesser-known "Too Late" and "Bad Times." So check the swap meets for "The Best of Tavares," if you'd like more hits and more of a complete picture of the group. (For example, the #1 R&B hit "Whodunit" is on that disc.) This album really focuses on some of the group's lesser-known later material. But it is still a fine collection, as it reflects the more mature sound the group adopted in its latter years at Capitol. I always liked the breezy, fantasy-like feel of "Madam Butterfly." The brothers do a nice turn on "In This Lovely World," delivering a positive message at a time (1980) when there was a lot of confusion, doubt, uncertainty, and cynicism in our culture. Its message would still fit in 2000. And of all their post-Saturday Night Fever releases, I think their best moments came on the medley of "Break Down For Love" and "Love Uprising" that first appeared on their "Love Uprising" album. If you ever suffered through a bad love, but you recovered and are now enjoying a good one, you'll relate to these songs. And the groove is funky, happy, and infectious. I was surprised that "Love Uprising" didn't do better on the pop charts. It was the last decent R&B hit Tavares had at Capitol. Two fine cuts from their first album are included. "Little Girl" has appeared on some underground oldies collections. It was written by Billy Preston and produced by Johnny Bristol. "Strangers In Dark Corners" is a moody, reflective piece on a breakup that was written and produced by Bristol (he later covered it on one of his solo albums). Of the hits on the first collection that are not here, the one you really miss is "Never Had A Love Like This Before," which would have really fit the mood of this set. Tavares went on to record two albums at RCA. "A Penny For Your Thoughts" was the one R&B chart success they had from that union. The group has come back together for live performances as a quartet (Chubby, Butch, Tiny and Pooch). Ralph Tavares retired to family life.
good disc.......2000-02-10
heaven must be an angel and the title cut still stand out.they had good vocals.quality in their vocals.no matter what music style.
WOUNDERFUL!.......2000-01-30
There is nothing much to say except that I miss groups like Tavares who were without "gimmicks" or trends. They had loads and loads of natural talent. Love it...
