Winter Storm Warning

About the Artist
Kent and Nick have known each other - first through mutual friends, and later as fellow musicians (but in different bands) - for more than 25 years. But their first project together (beyond the occasional impromptu jam or demo recording session at Kent's first home studio) didn't materialize until they co-produced Songs Arriving Late (and acted as de facto bandleaders for One Week In April). From that experience, it was clear that their temperaments and talents complemented each other, and they decided to continue working together. They have created opportunities to do this, not only as core members of Naked April, but also as a duo, exploring different musical spaces than those usually inhabited by that band. Balancing their work in the various projects, Kent and Nick released Winter Storm Warning in 2001, and anticipate completing a second duo release in late 2004.

Product Description
Winter Storm Warning is the first release from Nick Bennett and Kent Rytting working primarily as a duo (of course, with help from the members of Naked April and others). Four of the songs were written individually (one by Nick, three by Kent); two more started out as rough song sketches brought by Nick to the first Naked April retreats; the rest arose from improvisations in Naked April retreats and the duo's working sessions.

Throughout the project, even as Kent and Nick dived deep into the process of recording, and the musical and technological tools available to them - touchboard stringed instruments (Chapman Stick and Warr Guitar), sampled drums alongside standard drum kits and other percussion, looping and layering of vocal and instrumental parts - the music remained as it began: deep glimpses into the lives of both writers.

Winter Storm Warning,Kent Rytting and Nick Bennett,Twin Songs,Simultaneously experimental and personal, Winter Storm Warning combines folk, ambient, and progressive elements into a whole that is, by turns, meditative, challenging, and exhilarating.
