Longtime listeners have seen it coming: it was only a matter of time before John Mayer dropped the pop star pretense and proved he could really bring it. Chalk it up to one too many Dave Matthews comparisons, or the cupcake-sweet residue stuck to his image after the success of "Your Body Is a Wonderland"--but something convinced Mayer it was time to take him game to the next level. With help from studio pros Steve Jordan and Pino Palladino, he succeeds on Try. If the muscled-up covers of Jimi Hendrix's "Wait Until Tomorrow" and Ray Charles' "I Got a Woman" don't scream "no more Mr. Nice Guy" loud enough, the brawn of blues-rock opener "Who Do You Think I Was" does for sure. Mixed in with the Stevie Ray Vaughan and Eric Clapton-esque stuff are a few mellow numbers--"Daughters," most notably, returns from Heavier Things alongside "Something's Missing"--but even those songs seem hopped up on rock-God hormones. This newfound sizzle can't fix everything; that segment of the music-buying public that would accuse the singer of having a voice like "a whispering midget" (to quote a customer review of Mayer's work) won't want to add this disc to their collection. The good news for Mayer, though, is that anybody with an ear for genuine rock'n'roll chops will. --Tammy La Gorce
Customer Reviews:
I wasn't a John Mayer fan until I heard this album.......2007-07-31
I hadn't heard anything from John Mayer in a while. I had given up on him when he came out with his first album, which was a little too "poppy" for my taste. I usually go for oldies, stevie ray vaughn and hendrix among some of my favorites (though I'm only 24). My friend gave me this album and told me I should try it and to trust him. I absolutely loved this album when I first heard it. Each song is more soulful than they were on their original albums. I actually prefer the versions of "Daughters" and "Gravity" on this album. The versions of these songs make the original versions sound like like the "plain, unsalted" version of potato chips - bland. For those who have said Mayer is a subpar guitar player, I don't think they have truly listened to the guitar parts on this album. Mayer improvises a lot more on this cd.I've seen a lot of people say, "He's no Hendrix" or "He's no Stevie Ray". He may not be, but the influence on the guitar work is definitely there. Mayer pulls out all the stops on this one and plays many songs in the style of Stevie Ray - and it works. You can hear the Hendrix influences on his guitar work all over the place. Even Mayer's voice is different than it usually is on his studio albums. He sounded more relaxed, but his voice sounded great. I only wish Mayer would deliver like this on his studio albums. He would be so great. He really put heart in this live version and you could tell he was relaxed, but that definitely didn't hurt his performance one BIT on this album.
Try! John Mayer Trio Live.......2007-07-27
John's good in the studio, and perhaps better on stage.
This is a very good Live Recoding!
Good album if you like live music and John Mayer.......2007-07-19
I love live music and I love John Mayer. That is what made this album a good buy for me. If you are looking for Johns classics then this album might not be for you because it features stuff from a trio of his. It does have a great Somethings Missing and some songs that are Newer in this album from the newest album.
All and all if you are looking for some different John Mayer stuff and you already like him this would be a great addition to your collection.
This album has a blusey feel to it much like his latest album has.
Better than expected.......2007-05-30
John Mayer does have a lot of live albums for a guy who just put out his Jr. cd this past fall. But, hey...if you have the chops, and the raw muscial talent than people will listen, even if it's the same tracks. Mostly because he's the king of creative variation. This CD is better than I expected, and more edgy than some of his past albums.
There are old favorites here, but again- he never sings the same song twice, and has a lot of fun with his music! His music is so dam good people buy cd's with the same tracks just to hear them a different way!
Live Album.......2007-05-26
This isn't the first John Mayer cd Ive bought but I think it's the best. Hearing him live is a whole new experience.

Sweeping Up the Spotlight: Live at the Fillmore East 1969 features the definitive edition of Jefferson Airplane, icons of 1960s psychedelic rock and political agitation. Jack Casady and Spencer Dryden hold down the free-floating rhythms on bass and drums, Jorma Kaukonen launches feedback-laced guitar solos, and Paul Kantner adds rhythm guitar and backing vocals. Topping it all are the voices of Marty Balin and the '60s acid queen, Grace Slick. In concert, the Airplane were always more rough and ready than on their acid-hued vinyl. Outside the studio, they were ramshackle and punky, which is why they were sometimes referenced when talking about punk bands like X, who also had male and female lead singers. Despite having six albums under their belt, mostly consisting of original material, the Airplane's live set has a lot of mediocre blues and folk filler. Some of their more characteristic repertoire is sacrificed to workman-like renditions of "Uncle Sam Blues" and "Come Back Baby," albeit with some ripping Kaukonen guitar solos. Balin's raucous rant on "You Wear Your Dresses too Short" is embarrassing in its soul-singer aspirations. Assuming this was their set sequence, it takes a while for the Airplane to congeal on stage. They ride roughshod over much of their materiel, but pull it together two-thirds of the way through on one of their most complex tunes, "The Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil." With its shifting time signatures and overlapping vocal lines and harmonies, it's a challenge to pull off live, but they do, with soaring vocals from Balin and Slick and a long instrumental jam with a fractured guitar solo from Kaukonen and a feature slot for bassist Casady, the most innovative and powerful bassist from that era. That paves the way for a darker version of "White Rabbit," the mock celebration of "Crown of Creation," and their show closer, a hyped rendition of Fred Neil's ballad "The Other Side of This Life." As they always did, the Jefferson Airplane land high. --John Diliberto

True Flight.......2007-07-24
Once this show gets moving and the band finds it's groove, this show rocks! The classic Jefferson Airplane line-up at a high point of their performing abilities. The last half of this disc shows what Jefferson AIrplane was truly capable of doing. While it's no "Bless It's Pointed Little Head", it is a stellar performance. Well, a combination of two shows, but still some amazing work by the group. This one is definatley worth the price of admission.
Not flying..........2007-07-24
This release is mostly well-recorded, but, well, the Airplane was not what it had been anymore. More rock-oriented than before and sometimes going nowhere (nowhere interesting, at least), the band sounds loud but flat, unimaginative, and, to make matters worse, the vocals are not in tune AT ALL. Grace's voice was not the same, it sounds ragged (notably on "White Rabbit") and Kaukonen's guitar is all over, but not to good results.
It is obvious that Dryden (a very, very, really very good drummer) was not suitable for the band anymore. Subtelty was just vanishing and the band ended being just a monotonous band.
The cd jacket features one of the most beautiful band photos, taken at golden times, by the way. Jorma's liner notes do not say much.
Well, I do not recommend this, as you can guess.
(For those lookinf for Airplane live recordings, I recommend , of course, "Blessed Its Pointed Little Head", "Fillmore East 1968" and the concert at Monterey Pop Festival (in that order).
I liked this one.......2007-07-12
There are some new previously unreleased live recordings of the Airplane on the market. This one is good, and from their best period. I loved the Airplane in that period, when I consumed illegal substances; crimes for which the statute of limitations has expired. This has material from early Airplane through Volunteers.
The Airplane's musical and technical genius is best reflected in their studio recordings. This is a very good live recording of an excellent sample of their music. If you think you don't have enough Jefferson Airplane records you can buy this one.
You know, it's possible to get better tunes for free, just look..........2007-07-11
"Casady, the most innovative and powerful bassist from that era"
Ha!
Hahaha!
You DO Know Jack.......2007-07-05
We can discuss whether or not this CD is as good as BIPLH or not. A couple things I'd like to mention from my perspective that make this CD different:
1) If you are a fan of Jack's, then you want this CD. He does a solo on Ballad of You and Me and Pooneil that is OFF THE FREAKING HOOK, my brothers and sisters. This solo--and Jack took way too few of them if you ask me-- feels like tectonic plates shifting. On the rest of the CD his playing absolutely ROARS as well. No one before or since has ever played bass like Jack. When Jorma joins in after the solo Jack even manages to feed on the energy and take it to still a higher level.
(Aside: To say the singing and harmonies are "uneven" is to be kind. Like so much of their live work, the vocal are just silly and indulgent.)
2) I really like how you can hear what Kantner was doing for a change. This must be a result of modern sound technology. It adds a dimension that we had to struggle to enjoy in the past and I am very glad they captured his work here.
Is it better than BIPLH? It's different. It's worth it if only for Jack's playing but there is so much more to enjoy too. Take care.

Album Description
Asia, featuring members of Yes, ELP and King Crimson, was the first "supergroup" of the eighties. Their eponymous debut album, released in 1982, was a huge success racking up global sales in excess of 15 million copies. In 2006 the original four members reunited for the first time in over 20 years for a series of concerts in the US and the UK. The success of this tour led to a full-blown world tour running throughout 2007 in celebration of their 25th anniversary. This CD was recorded in Tokyo in March 2007 on the Japanese leg of the tour. The companion DVD will be released in Fall 2007 on Eaglevision.
Customer Reviews:
Needs a remixing.......2007-08-04
I saw the reunited Asia in concert in Toronto on Canada Day weekend and this recording doesn't do the band justice. Carl Palmer's drumming at the Toronto show was astounding...he was the driving force behind the performance and his kit sounded incredible. But I find the drums are buried on this recording...I have to strain to hear some of his rolls because they're simply muffled. As well, John Wetton's vocals are too far "up front". The music needs to be a bit louder to achieve a better balance.
All that said, this is still a good performance and the "unplugged" versions of Don't Cry, The Smile Has Left Your Eyes and Ride Easy are fantastic.
And yet..........2007-07-28
I bought this CD mainly for a nostalgia factor, since my memories of past live albums should have kept me away from it. But it was the original band...To my surprise this is the best sounding live CD from the band so far. Wetton is much better here than Lake was in '83, and nobody wants to remember Moscow. The band seems relaxed, even in their solos, and there is a level of showmanship (which is expected), that really outshines other recordings.
I generally dislike "unplugged" versions of anything, but I was surprised that "Don't Cry" and "the Smile has Left Your Eyes" sound extraordinary in their new incarnations.
The real gem of the CD (worth the price of admission) is "In the Court of the Crimson King", a 4 1/2 minute rendition that sounds solid, with a guitar arrangement from Howe that sounds like a respectful hommage to both his own 70's work in Yes, and the intricate virtuosity of Fripp (Yes, I'm a Crimson fan).
And now, the bad news... The voice and keyboards are a bit forward on the sound mix, and unfortunately some songs have the drums buried in an ancient tomb. I think Palmer's drum sound is a bit outdated, a pity because I love his playing on most ELP recordings (including the live ones). "Only time will tell" has the worst drum mix of the CD, hi-hats and cymbals are all over the place, when you hear them; and I refuse to think it's the drummer's fault (c'mon this guy played Prokofiev live!).
Other than that "Roundabout" should have been rehearsed a bit, it's too erratic even at the slower tempo which they chose (listen to recent Yes live in "The House of Yes" for a killer version).
The rest of the songs are fine, and I can actually confess that as a nostalgia item, it turned out be better than a lot of the stuff out there today!
AR
Surprising & Enjoyable...........2007-07-26
The vintage tracks from Yes, ELP, & King Crimson alone were nearly worth buying the record. I never thought the Buggles were anything to brag about since their only claim to fame was being the first video.. you know the rest. They played that tune just to appease Geoff Downes who really never had any success on his own. It was evident when he tried to hold Asia together after everyone split. Anyway.... wish they would have recorded a show in the states somewhere, probably wouldn't have drawn what they did in Japan though. Wish they would have put Starless & Bible Black on here. Like I said up top, they earned some serious cool points for Roundabout, In the Court, etc... & did Steve Howe a solid by letting him do his virtuoso thing. Should have went all out on Don't Cry... forget doing the acoustic version.
around an 88%.......2007-07-25
Strong sounding CD with solid bottom end (kick drum and bass) ... What I really like about it is it's from one live show ... I don't like live CDs that are a hodge-podge of different shows ... I'm as big an ASIA fan as there is so I'll give my straight impressions:
Track: Time Again - Just a kick-a#* song, get's everybody going. Always loved the cynical lyrics
Wildest Dreams - One of ASIA's strongest, most epic-sounding songs ...
bass is strong as are drums, Steve Howe's guitar sound is weak on this one for some reason, Wetton's voice is sort of weak in places but he pretty much nails the high parts when they come along.
Roundabout - Way better than the orginal Yes version ... totally different vocals of course but heavier and ballsier courtesy of Wetton's rumbling bass and Carl Palmer's heavier drums. Those out there who say this doesn't compare to the Yes version are living in the past. Yes are a prog band / Asia are a ROCK band (a semi-heavy rock band when you hear other tracks like "Soul Survivor" ~ which Wetton absolutely nails the vocals in that one ...)
Without You - This one doesn't really work, live, and I'm not sure why. Now, on the tour, they're doing "Midnight Sun" I think, which is a kooler song anyway. On "Without You" the instrumental breaks are great, the end verse is nice with the chimes and acoustic guitar (of some sort, I don't know enough about guitars to know what it is ...) I don't know, live parts of this song sound choppy.
Cutting It Fine - Kool tune, Geoff does kool job of blending the original intrumental ending with new modern keyboard sounds.
Guitar Solo - Very good but I'm not a fan of that style of guitar playing
Fanfare For Common Man - Asia's version of this just kicks the crap out of everthing, ELP or otherwise ... Steve Howe really shines on this as does Geoff.
Smile Has Left Your Eyes - Still quite the emotional ballad, in a lower key these days but JW sings a couple real powerful notes at the end
Don't Cry - This acoustic version, turning it into a ballad is NOTHING SHORT OF BRILLIANT. If they record some new song that has this type of sound and can get it some airplay with a video it could bring Asia back in a huge way.
Court of Crimson King - Wetton does a good job on this one. The original is a super long sprawling piece of music that defines everything I hate about old-school progressive music. Geoff has his keyboard doing the Mellotron exactly. (Carl really does a kick-a#* job on this one).
Here Comes the Feeling - This is a live version that really works, with JW strongly belting the high notes. Interesting this version is a half-step below the original studio version, but a half-step ABOVE the key Greg Lake sang it in, back at the disastrous Asia in Asia show 12/1983. I own Enko Sai on CD (someone got it for me) and if you listen to both "Here Comes the Feeling"s you hear how Wetton is miles better now, in his late 50s, than Lake was in his 30s at the time of that MTV broadcast show.
(However, Greg Lake's voice was at one point quite good ... I have the live CD of his '81 solo tour) ..... side notes aside this is a good Wetton/Howe creation and it's kool how crisp they wrap up the ending of the song.
VKTRS - My favorite of the non-Asia songs, sounds more rock and it just plain ........ works. Still has that haunting melody at the end: "You
were___________________________ "
The Heat Goes On - Good rockin' song, drum solo shows why Carl is still pretty much the best in the business ... that guy is a monster ..... so-so
Wetton vocals, he doesn't consistently hold that high G in the chorus that's real important in the cut on the record (ALPHA). On the other hand, the live version is more raw, if you hear the studio version off ALPHA that's just an absolutely brilliantly recorded song (perhaps too brilliant?)
Sole Survivor and Only Time Will Tell - Both of these songs just rule!
Amazing how much emotion Wetton put into the verse melody of OTWT. These 2 songs are ASIA, I've always like them both better than "Heat of the Moment"
At least for "Heat of the Moment" this version closing the show has a heavier sound, with a crashing snare/tambourine hit of Carl Palmer and
Geoff using very kool 'voices' on his keyboards in the middle. The jam session at the end is interesting to hear.
Possibly the koolest thing on the whole CD is the acoustic guitar/piano version of "Ride Easy". Just has a kool vibe to it you might not expect from the band ASIA ..... now it would be kool if in future shows they maybe throw in the ALPHA-session b-side "Lying To Yourself", which is a great song.
This CD is just awesome ... These guys are bad-as-he*# musicians, that's
the short the long and the end of it. And the voice of JW (one of the
clearest voices in music) is leading this band ... which is as a band should be. {unless you're Velver Revolver}
ASIA's Live Show Now on CD.......2007-07-17
WOW! If you remeber the early 80's power prog and pop hit makers you'll love this collection. All the Wetton era hits summed up on two CD's. One of the things that caught my ear when I saw ASIA live and on this cd was Carl Palmer's fantastic playing. As a matter of fact the whole band is spot on. If we can only get them to do a DRAMA era yes song.

Customer Reviews:
For those about to rock, you'll wanna play this one!.......2007-05-05
After listening to this album, I wonder why it is not considered as great a live album as it should be. Maybe it's because of the time it was released, but then again, if it were released several years earlier, it wouldn't have the same, great track selection. Anyway, this is a great album to have both for AC/DC fans and newcomers to the band. For newcomers, you get 23, excellent songs derived from every, popular album this band has enjoyed. For AC/DC fans, this can not only prove to be another, great one, but it may introduce you to some songs you might not have been familiar with (for me it was "Sin City" originally off of "Powerage", and "Who Made Who" off the album of the same name, among one or two others.)
It's hard to pick favorites, as all songs are great. However, you have the one-two combination of Sin City and Who Made Who, which I found to be a high-voltage delight, plus, a few songs at over ten minutes (High Voltage, Jailbreak and Let There Be Rock, the latter of the three being the best, IMO). There's the epic "For Those About To Rock, We Salute You", complete with the cannons, the sped-up "Whole Lotta Rosie" and beautiful "Bonny". All of the songs from The Razor's Edge are better here, and the Bon Scott numbers are certainly interesting sung by Brian Johnson. The only thing is that I wish there was enough space to add songs like "Have A Drink On Me", "Shake A Leg" (which I would highly anticipate hearing live) or "Inject The Venom" (released on "For Those About To Rock"). However, the track selection here is still great and there's a lot to love.
This is overall a strong and spirited album with great performances by every member of the band. However, at this point I would like to add that AC/DC's longest running drummer, Phil Rudd, is not on this album, nor The Razor's Edge. I personally prefer him over Chris Slade, as Phil added a bit more of a groove, but both guys prove to be great on the skins. If you want a generous helping of AC/DC, look for this album, among their earlier classics. Rock on!
GREAT CD.......2007-02-13
AC/DC is one of the only bands that can perform there songs in concert as well or better than in studio. Most of there all time hits are on this cd as well as others that i never heard. This cd was well worth the money.
AC/DC LIVE.......2007-01-10
I also bought this CD for my grandson. He likes it, I guess, since I have not heard to the contrary.
Possibly the greatest live rock album of all time!.......2007-01-04
The quintessential AC/DC recording. Much of this material comes from the mind-blowing Donington concert when the band was at their musical and energetic peak. Thunderstruck alone is worth the price of the CD. If you've never been into Acca Dacca, this is a great place to start. Crank it up loud though. If you play it while driving, be prepared to drive faster than usual. It's sure to happen...
the best their is.......2006-12-11
I listen to ACDC all the time even when im doing my homework. at school my friend have to yell at me to turn it down. Frankly i think this album has the best selection of all the CDs ive heard including back in black all night long and hells bells but it could of included have a drink on me or Big balls. Alltogether this is the best their is

One Wild Night? Well, that's not strictly true, as this live album was recorded at Bon Jovi concerts spanning three decades. But why be pedantic when the result is a live album that effectively doubles as a greatest-hits collection? Bon Jovi's songs are tailor-made for stadiums and arenas, and, from classic fist-in-the-air rockers ("Livin' on a Prayer," "Bad Medicine," "You Give Love a Bad Name," "Runaway") to lighters-in-the-air numbers ("Keep the Faith," "Wanted Dead or Alive," "Something to Believe In"), the choices are suitably larger than life. The career-reviving single "It's My Life" sounds right at home, as do great covers of Neil Young's "Rockin' in the Free World" (recorded, appropriately enough, in Johannesburg in 1995) and the Boomtown Rats' "I Don't Like Mondays" (performed with Sir Bob Geldof). --Robert Burrow

IT'S ONE WILD NIGHT, ALRIGHT!!!.......2007-02-17

Live Concert Versions of Bon Jovi's Greatest Hits.......2007-01-19
"One Wild Night: Live 1985-2001" by Bon Jovi, Is a compilation of Bon Jovi's best songs, performed at various concert events from 1985 to 2001. For Bon Jovi fans, it's classic Bob Jovi and a Must Have! If you like music recorded from "Live" performances, You will love this album! If you prefer "Studio-Cut" versions, you may not like this album because it has the sound and feel of a live concert.
zero stars.......2005-11-13
One WEAK night!...zero stars if that was available. I never realized Bon Jovi was this bad a live band. They obviously get a LOT of production help in the studio because this album (several different concerts in several different venues) is ALL bad. Sorry for them and sorry for me for buying it.
Bon Jovi rocks.......2005-08-09
I found this CD to be extemely uplifting, great music to listen to while driving.
not a greatest hits album.......2005-05-14
This is not Bon Jovi's greatest hits, and that's the only bad thing that anyone who likes Bon Jovi can say about this. It's a fun collection of some live great live performances. Bon Jovi is great in concert, interacting with the crowd, and building up the energy and fun. You can hear that the audience and performers had a great time. If you like Bon Jovi, then this is certainly worth the money!

It is a real pleasure to be able to listen to this classic collection of live songs. The sound quality is excellent. It brings back great memories.

Lively live performance by Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band. How can you beat "Katmandu"?
LIVE BULLET ! (Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band show the world how to rock n' roll).......2007-06-19
Recorded in Detroit's Cobo Hall, !977's Live Bullet from Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band is one of the greatest live albums ever recorded. Great rock classics, funky soul music, and good old rock n' roll make up the entire album. Seger, a Dearborn, Michigan native, is right at home, and that just adds to the warmth and enthusiasm on Live Bullet. Tina Turner's Nutbush City Limits starts things off with a funky rock beat. The classic Travelin' Man/Beautiful Loser medley is next (this is the version that's played by radio stations). It rocks, and also has emotional significance for millions of people. They tear through Van Morrison's I've Been Working like they mean it. The definitive version of Turn The Page is here, the one you've heard on the radio all these years. Of course this is a great rock classic, one of the greatest rock songs ever. The rousing version of Ramblin' Gamblin' Man will certainly get your body moving, and it's never sounded better than it does here. The Silver Bullet Band, complete with horns, really shines on Heavy Music, and you could almost swear it was Wilson Pickett singing on parts of the song. And that's quite a complement! This live version of Katmandu rocks 10 times more than the studio version does and sounds 10 times better. In fact, all of the songs on this album do. Lookin' Back, Get Out Of Denver, and Let It Rock wrap things up in good rocking fashion, with great vocal performances from Seger, and more excellant hard rocking from the band (especially guitar). Live Bullet is a great album, full of hard driving blue collar rock n' roll, and famous rock classics from America's favorite old time rock n' rollers, Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band.
One of the best live albums ever made - EVER.......2007-05-15
If you can't appreciate live Bob Seger, we'll just assume you don't really love good live rock 'n roll. In concert, the man knows how to rock the house like few others. "Nutbush City Limits", "Let It Rock", "Ramblin Gamblin Man", "Get Out of Denver", "Turn The Page" and "Katmandu" ... what a performer, unbelievable cd. Always gets me going and tunes I never get tired of. Long live Bob!
Legendary.......2007-05-14

Technical Flaws.......2007-07-04
Always nice to hear the Moodies. It's just so dissapointing to hear songs recorded ,what I would call, unprofessionally. Tracks ending abruptly. Fading in or out at the wrong places. Canned music, blended in, is not exciting. But, It's got a lot of great moments and brings back good memories. Voices aren't always great but I guess there wasn't a lot of material to choose from.
Forty-one tracks for your pleasure. Are you sitting comfortably? .......2007-06-19
As the author of the Jefferson Airplane book "Take Me To A Circus Tent" and a former radio disc-jockey, I am often asked to write and or discuss various recordings from the 60's and 70's.
They earned the title "Magnificent Moodies" early on. The assemblage of the BBC tracks only further solidifies the reward. While the double package is called "Live At The BBC 67-70" there is more! The second disc is audio from TV tapings.
If you are a collector of must have Moody Blues recordings this entered the list the second it left the factory. For those that purchased some of their material in the past it will give you another side of the band. The track listings couldn't be a better representation of the collective genius from the group. Not only are the hits and radio tracks available for your enjoyment but some of the more esoteric and underrated tunes ("Best Way To Travel", "Visions Of Paradise, and "The Actor"). "Best Way To Travel" has never received the acclaim it deserves. While previously tracks were available as a bonus on special SACD pressings, this gives it to you in the full and proper dose.
Before we check out some of their superlative versions of their own material it must be written how great the cover of the Animals hit "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood" was constructed.
The back-to-back combination of "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Ride My See-Saw" offers enough exquisite beauty to enthrall the harshest critic but "Lovely To See You (With the acoustic guitar sounding as if it is in your living room) could accelerate the pulse of the most docile individual.
As you sample the choice cuts don't forget to digest the short version of "Nights In White Satin" clocking in a shade over three minutes."
Could you ever get enough versions of "Gypsy"? Its inclusion here only solidifies it's golden splendor.
Forty-one tracks for your pleasure. Are you sitting comfortably?
Enjoy the music and be well,
Craig Fenton

Good Sounding Moody Blues Stuff!!.......2007-06-12
I was waiting for this 2 cd set to come out for a long, long, time. The sound is pretty good and the song selection is excellent for the time it was recorded. At least on this BBC recording, unlike other BBC live recordings, it doe not have an announcer before each song with on occasion, a one question interview with a band member. I find that part unnecessary and am glad its not on this set. The only problem I have with this set is the editing. Moody Blues songs usually have great endings to their songs but on this release the endings are cut off and an audience applause in put in rather bluntly at times which cheapens the recordings. The sound is great for a BBC live set-average stereo but the songs seem cut off and shortened in places--- I guess to save room for other songs. This results in the whole song version not heard at times. That is probably the only thing wrong with this 2 cd set. It ought to be re-edited and the songs presented the way they were played--take out a few if you have to but lets keep the original song in. Despite this problem, I recommend this set highly. Do not let it get away. Enjoy Moody fans!!!!!!!!!! Good linear notes and pictures also.
Historic stuff.......2007-06-01
If you have the new SACD special editions of the "core 7" original albums you've already heard most of these tracks. They were added as "special material" to those releases. However, as the other poster mentioned if you didn't want to spring the big money for albums you already own here they are, collected on two discs. The quality is no great shakes for the most part - mostly mid-range and brittle highs, but these date from over thirty years ago, and for radio to boot. The performances in many cases are a bit suspect as well; in some cases the instrumental sections sound identical to the studio versions with live vocals added. I think the Moodies did occasionally do this, considering how dense their studio recordings were it's no wonder. Other tracks however are totally live . . . they're ragged compared to the studio counterparts but have a wonderful energy that makes them a treasure on their own terms.
The studio albums are definitely the best way to acquaint one's self with these songs if you haven't already, but for the hardcore fan this is a very worthwhile release to add to the library.
A Christmas Gift Long Overdue!.......2007-05-26
Just as I was about to post a scathing review criticising the way the BBC material was spread out among the new deluxe editions, I saw this upcoming release and smiled. It's like waking up one morning and finding a gift from some Christmas long ago that you knew was there but couldn't find. For years I have been wondering why the Moodies haven't released their BBC sessions like artists such as Hendrix, Cream, Jack Bruce, The Who, The Beatles, Zeppelin, and even Kaleidoscope have done. Then I saw that they were releasing the material but you have to buy the original albums (which most of us have done more than once)again to get it all. Finally, in one complete volume, is everything that was salvaged from the vaults. It's like the Moodies reunited completely, jumped in a time machine, and made a new album for a new millenium. I am giddy in expectation of this collection!

To say that Springsteen's live shows with the E Street Band were legendary is the height of understatement. On a good night, the set might extend to three and four hours of exhilarating, pulse-pounding rock & roll. How best to capture that on CD? Or was it possible at all? As it turns out, Live 1975-1985 comes as close to the experience as possible. Culling material from various tours and settings ranging from small rooms to stadiums, the three-CD set emphatically displays Springsteen's charisma as a bandleader and storyteller and makes plain the sheer power of the E Street Band. Some of the many highlights here include covers of Edwin Starr's "War," Tom Waits's "Jersey Girl," and Woody Guthrie's "This Land Is Your Land" and rare versions of originals such as "Because the Night," "Fire," and "Seeds." And relax--all the hits are here as well. If you never saw Springsteen and the E Streeters back then, you might still get your chance. But this set chronicles a special time in the life of a special performer. --Daniel Durchholz

Springsteen Live, you can't get any better.......2007-05-13
Any time you get to hear live preformances of Bruce Springsteen and the E-Street Band it is something special and this is some of his best stuff. The early years and his recent work are his best. Can't wait for the live Seegar Sessions stuff to come out.

Pure Bruce Springsteen, pure rock 'n roll. I cannot wait to see a similar venture for the period 1985 till 2007.

Dylan has issued a large number of live albums in his day, but 1974's Before the Flood deserves special mention because of the presence of the Band behind him. Dylan had recently brought the Band into the studio to record the chart-topping (yet still somehow underappreciated) Planet Waves, which was the first (and, as it turned out, only) studio record he made after leaving Columbia for Asylum. He then asked them along on the subsequent tour, which at the time became the most successful rock tour in history. The fruits of that partnership are contained on this two-CD set, which actually ignores Planet Waves completely in favor of older classics. Although the album includes several strong collaborations, the highlights ironically come during Dylan's solo-acoustic portion, which yields powerful and gritty versions of "Don't Think Twice" and "It's Alright Ma," and during the Band's own exhilarating numbers with Dylan sitting out. --Marc Greilsamer
Customer Reviews:
Flat out amazing..........2006-08-10
I have been to 4 Dylan concerts, and they have all been spectacular, with each one better than the last. The press always said he was mediocre live, but I never heard a mediocre concert of his. This album is ablaze with energy, precision, and passion. I play it a lot. Dylan infuses his old material with new arrangements (something he's done his whole career), and it all works. In fact, many of the songs here are superior to their studio versions, especially Like a Rolling Stone and Blowin' in the Wind. Hearing the audience scream (and I mean scream) when Dylan and The Band break into the chorus of Rolling Stone is chilling. The crowd is so massively into it. Even The Band's take on their material is superior to the studio versions. Everyone seems loose and relaxed here, but the playing is really tight. In fact, all the live Dylan albums I have (Before the Flood, Bootleg Vol. 4, Hard Rain, and Dylan and the Dead), only Dylan and the Dead really sucks. The others are magnificent. This is one of the greatest live albums ever...
best dylan recording ever.......2006-01-24
When Robert Zimmerman(Bob Dylan) started, he was a Woodie Guthrie clone. Many of the old Woodie Guthrie type folkies felt that the torch had been passed to a new generation. Many other young people, like myself, prefered Dylan songs done by popular rock groups of the time because Dylan's words were awsome, but the sound wasn't as good as rock music.
Dylan wanted to be a rock muscian, not a singing poet that was marketed as a Savior.
This Album is the dream realized for Bob Dylan. He was a rock star out on tour with "The Rolling Thunder Review"
Dylan gave Rock & Roll a new catagory. Rock music for people who can think.
Dylan + the Band = Brilliance.......2005-11-23
A strong live set from Zimmy and his ex-backup group, the Band. The energy here is everywhere, and though not as much as on Hard Rain, Before the Flood is my favorite Dylan live album out of the three I own, by a mile.
Since this is a live set with Dylan and the Band, not only are Dylan classics Knockin' on Heaven's Door, Just Like a Woman, It Ain't Me Babe, Don't Think Twice It's All Right, All Along the Watchtower, Like a Rolling Stone and Blowin' in the Wind included, but some of the Band's more popular numbers (the Weight, Stage Fright, Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Up On Cripple Creek) are also played. Dylan and the Band are a very good match, and the songs are generally quite good. My problem is Bob's voice. He seems congested, and the same can be said for Hard Rain. Also, why does Lay Lady Lay sound so angry? Bob sings it the way he sang the studio takes of Positively 4th Street and Like A Rolling Stone. Isn't he supposed to be happy here?
A Rocking Good Time.......2005-11-09
This is the second record that Mr. D recorded for David Geffin's Asylum label before he went back to Colombia, (both this record and "Planet Waves" are now with CBS/Sony where all Dylan's stuff is now) and it's a rocking good time of a record. Dylan's voice is right up front and central, the Band's playing is strong. And Dylan performs a very, very angry, version of "It's Alright Ma," where the audience goes nuts when he shouts out, "Even the President of the United States sometimes must have to stand naked." You have to remember that this record came out during the Watergate scandal, seems Mr. Nixon wasn't to popular with the Dylan crowd. Five stars for this one.

etc. spectacular album, and a correction to a previous review.......2005-10-05
I agree with the post being a bit "political" -hard not to with Bob - But lets not have them in reviews
Yes as the recent DVD (brilliant) clearly shows it was the tour in the UK the the "Judas" etc. booing took hold, I too find it so odd by this time -as said- Like a Rolling Stone was #1 (were they not shipping Lp's to the UK ?)
It did start not when the Band were his back-up band but at Newport with Mike Bloomfield's brilliant pick of side men.
Thinking of Dylan being booed for what is IMHO his best period of music is mind boggling but it was indeed a FOLK festival and Bob was not "unwise" to the power of the Press and keeping his popularity intact.
I must consider "Flood" the Live GEM of the magical match between these *6 men that created ONE Band!

The Royal Albert Hall release is a treat but at that time the drummer was not Levon so this is really the true combination Live

12 Gardens Live is worth the cost just for Billy Joel's still-robust renditions of "My Life," "Only the Good Die Young," "Movin' Out (Anthony's Song)," and "Big Shot"--time off has not taken a toll on the piano man's pipes, and his playing remains on the right side of rock critics' expectations--but the big surprise here are the sleeper hits; by rights, they should sink like stones amid a sea of universally loved signatures. Instead they shimmer brightly, landing on ears like undervalued gems. "Goodnight Saigon," "Zanzibar," "Laura," and "Miami 2017" are recognizable titles only to the type of wild-eyed Billy Joel fan liable to throw her bra onstage, but they linger, pleasingly, past such late-career chart-climbers as "The River of Dreams" and "We Didn't Start the Fire." Woven around "New York State of Mind" and "Allentown," they serve to remind any student of pop why Joel is a worthy statesman. For those who needed no reminding, pleasant surprises of a different sort await: the double disc is home to two hidden tracks. On disc one, a rocked-up version of "A Room of Our Own" returns the entertainer to the Madison Square Garden stage, where he is duly howled over. And on disc two, after delivering a goosebump-raising rendition of "And So it Goes" that surely would have sufficed as a memorable closer to a monumental gig, he busts back out with "It's Still Rock & Roll to Me." Those who thought he forgot to include it on the set list should revisit "Keeping the Faith." --Tammy La Gorce

Billy Joel still "THE PIANO MAN".......2007-06-12
If you only like Billy Joel rather then love him, then this is The CD you have been waiting for.
Billy Joel's 2006 concert tour souvenir is really good.......2007-03-11
I enjoyed this 2006 double-disc live album very much indeed, having purchased my copy in December 2006. I was delighted and thrilled to see Billy Joel and his touring band perform live at the Brisbane Entertainment Centre on November 23rd last year, and was very pleased to later learn that this tour CD existed already from earlier shows played in the US in the northern summer. Despite having listened to and followed Billy Joel's musical journeys since 1978's My Life single caught my attention as an 8 year old child, I had never seen even a TV appearance of a live rock concert featuring Billy. There was a famous show where he'd played NYC's Yankee Stadium one year, but I hadn't even seen that and it'd been out on DVD / VHS for ages. So I jumped at the chance to see him perform live, and was richly-rewarded for my $187 ticket with a fabulous show comprised of great songs, a terrific backing band, awesome lighting design and a full house of happy concertgoers. Plus the encore, where everyone got to sing along to Uptown Girl and Piano Man !
This CD set covers much the same show as I saw in Brisbane, but with a couple of bonus hidden tracks, and 3 or 4 different song choices. Early songs like Everybody Loves You Now, The Entertainer and The Ballad Of Billy The Kid that were not hits but which would be familiar to many Billy Joel back catalogue owners ( like myself ) sit happily alongside his breakthrough hits from the late 70's albums The Stranger and 52nd Street like She's Always A Woman, Just The Way You Are, Only The Good Die Young and Big Shot. I always liked his rock n roll numbers like You May Be Right ans It's Still Rock And Roll To Me ( from 1980's Glass Houses album ) , and other great stuff from the 80's is here too, like Allentown, We Didn't Start The Fire, Goodnight Saigon and The Night Is Still Young.
Listeners who have heard 1981's Songs In The Attic live CD collection will recall that Miami 2017 (I've Seen The Lights Go Out On Broadway) and New York State Of Mind were standouts on that particular recording, and they're here too. Billy Joel's epic tune Scenes From An Italian Restaurant featured as part of the encore here - it's one of his most-loved creations. I like all these songs, and can't really find fault with this set. Only songs I'd like to have heard that didn't make this CD : Leningrad, Tell Her About It and No Man's Land
For me, hearing Billy's terrific live vocal version of An Innocent Man, the lovely piano lullaby of And So It Goes , and the uplifting, joyous vocals on The River OF Dreams were my highlights of this set.
I guess now that we are familiar with DVD concert films, audio CD's of live concerts might start becoming a thing of the past, and having seen this show, I do feel I'd like to see it again with the visuals too, but what 12 Gardens does achieve is to remind me of how the songs worked in a concert setting.
I think I will rate it 4 or maybe 4.5 stars, but I'd give it 5 stars if it came out as a DVD because of the terrific lighting design and the fantastic energy that Billy Joel delivers when he's on stage.
Highly recommended to all fans of Billy Joel and those who like pop/rock music.
Billy Joel rocks!.......2007-02-23
This double disc CD is awesome. All of Billy Joel's most popular songs are on here. If you are a Billy Joel fan I definitly recommend purching the CD. Enjoy!!!
Disappointing.......2007-02-06
I was disappointed in this CD. The older Billy Joel isn't as fun to listen to live, I guess. I listened to it once and filed it away in my "not played very much" CD section. But when I bought it I only paid $9.99. So I guess it wasn't a total disaster.
Billy Joel live.......2007-01-18
This is the best live album Billy Joel has ever released, period.
