Not Bad, Not Great.......2007-02-01
Another next big Brit-thing to come across the seas. Although these guys write pretty good songs, it was hard to put them past some of the more exciting releases like Arctic Monkeys or Dirty Pretty Things. Either way, There's plenty to like about this disc, you just might not be playing it too much 5 years from now...
Oddly enough..........2006-12-04
I hate Nirvana, always have. So by comparison, I should hate Nine Black Alps. Weird, huh? I can't explain why, because I can see why people relate the 2 but Nine Black Alps have something different. Better EVERYTHING. It's catchier, better riffs, better vocals, and definitely more air guitar-able. They remind me of a young Burning Brides but with more oomph than BB's debut. A lot of the songs have this swirling feeling that leads around to a riff laden chorus. It's grunge, kind of. It's garage rock, kind of. But one thing that it doesn't fail to be vague on, is that it is a definite rock'n'roll record.
I guess that is an explanation.
A good buy.......2006-11-20
I picked this up for $3 at a used cd store. I saw it and remembered having heard them compared to Nirvana, so I took a chance seeing as I wasn't going to waste $15 or anything. I was impressed by the sound, very grunge and still relevant, much like the rock revolution that occured around 2003 or 2004 (namely the Hives, Vines, Strokes etc). "Cosmopolitan" is the best track, and although it gets repeditive at times, it's a solid record. "Behind Your Eyes" and "Intermission" are two folkier acoustic tracks and this band makes them work. The lyrics are well written and socially insightful at times. Worth checking out if you're into Nirvana or the Vines. The only disappointment for me was that "Southern Cross" wasn't a CSN cover.
You have to own this album!.......2006-08-03
How do you describe how a band sounds? Nine Black Alps are clearly informed by punk and metal riffs, without being held prisoner by them. The songs are intelligent, catchy, and contain many subtleties which seem to get better with repeated listenings. The vocals may recall Joe Strummer of the Clash, but this band owes nothing to anyone. Every song on this album is easily catchy and memorable, and other than the two slow songs, the record rocks from start to finish. Fuzz guitar riffs seem to remind one of the great punk songs of old, yet this band sounds as fresh as today's news. I am as impressed by this album as I was the first time I heard the Ramones' first album, or Nirvana's "Nevermind." Although this band has its own sound and doesn't sound like those two albums, it's easy to see why the sticker on the cover proclaims that this may be the band that saves rock and roll.
Superb, straightforward rock.......2006-06-24
I'm constantly amazed at how much I enjoy this album. I expected to find the usual two or three good tracks buried in the usual garbage, but "Everything Is" is surprisingly consistent, chock full of good material. Though there are a few tracks that are exceptionally good ("Unsatisfied," for example), there isn't a single dud on the album.
In addition, the songwriting is exceptional. I tend toward more electronic music, and am normally bored by bands without a dedicated keyboardist or (at the least) whacky FX. Nine Black Alps plows through the album with only a few different guitar and bass sounds, providing variation entirely through the songs themselves instead of by sonic contortion. This is some of the purest and best rock I've ever heard.
Other reviewers' have made comparisons to Nirvana, but I feel this is unjustified. Nine Black Alps easily competes with Nirvana for grunginess, but they owe far more to the Ramones and modern indie rock than to Nirvana.

Album Details
Digitally Remastered Double Anthology of the Pop and Soundtrack Composer from the 50's and 60's. Perhaps his Best Counterpart of Today Would Be John Williams. A Film Maker Could Always Rely on Mancini to Deliver a Composition that Hit the Mark for a Film and Conveyed Exactly What was Required and More. He also Filled the Role of an American Mantovani, Recording 'muzak' Versions of Popular Hits. He was Handsome, Personable, but Most of All, Well Respected for his Craft.
Customer Reviews:
not enough Galway.......2003-10-02
There are only four songs with James Galway. The way this recording is presented is misleading and buyers should be aware that this is NOT a joint effort between these two great artists.. I was totally disappointed. I think Henry Mancini is wonderful but was expecting to hear a collaboration. So if you're looking for flute music this isn't it. However it's a great collecton of Henry Mancini's work.
Too Good to Last.......2000-03-03
I heard this on PBS. Galway and Mancini may be two of the most talented musicians of our century. Galway for his complete mastery of the flute and Mancini for his ability to arrange , produce and in this instance direct the orchestra while Galway performs. They do several duets of a comical nature as well. This is important because it is one of Mancini's last efforts prior to his unfortunate passing.

Album Description
Naked Lunch showcases the collaboration between jazz artist Ornette Coleman and Academy Award winning composer Howard Shore(Lord of the Rings trilogy). This jazz soundtrack includes an ensemble collection of Coleman's musicians including J.J. Edwards, Aziz Bin Salem, David Hartley, Barre Phillips, Denardo Coleman and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.
Customer Reviews:
Quite possibly Howard Shore's best work yet..........2006-08-24
I've always enjoyed Howard Shore's work, even way before he became a household name with the mammoth scores for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. I personally feel that he is at his best when doing the scores for Cronenberg's works.
With Naked Lunch, I think Shore managed to create a perfect soundscape to go along with director David Cronenberg's crazed adaptation of William Burrough's cult novel. Shore, along with famed saxophonist Ornette Coleman, join together to create a strange hybrid of mood music and frenetic jazz that fits the film perfectly. This isn't typical jazz and is very free form but still, it's definitely one of the best film scores I've ever had the pleasure of listening to. It's not for everyone but if you appreciate a good, moody movie score, look no further for this is one of the absolute best.
Lastly, it reminds me a bit of the score that he did for "The Cell", due to the Middle East sounding bits laced throughout the album and out of all of his scores, I'd say it resembles that one the most. The lonely saxophone also reminds me of the score for "Angel Heart", the sax in which was played by Courtney Pine.
great film,just as great music!.......2005-11-20

Album Description
International pressing. Debut album from the Nirvana-influenced band from Manchester, England. In Sam Forrest, they boast a highly capable vocalist who is equally comfortable displaying throat-shredding ferocity and melancholic restraint. The album features the hit single 'Not Everyone'. 13 tracks in all. Universal. 2005.
Customer Reviews:
On the Horizon.......2007-01-26
Witty and cleverly executed post grunge rock from some young Manchester Lads? Produced by Tom Rothrock and Rob Schnapf (Elliott Smith)?
Don't mind if I do. Thank you.
Stay tuned to these guys.
Best moment: The rusty slide guitars on the acoustic "Intermission"
Mountain Odds.......2006-03-22
At the recent Glastonbury festival in the English countryside, Nine Black Alps managed to pull a massive crowd to their early afternoon slot on the first day of the musical extravaganza. Their large audience had more to do with them playing in a covered tent while the rest of the Glastonbury site succumbed to rain and mud slides rather than an established following of supporters, but their 2000s take on Seattle grunge won over plenty of filthy festival-goers by the time they left the John Peel Stage.
Nine Black Alps' debut album Everything Is starts off decidedly similar to the greasy rock of their Glastonbury set, however takes a turn at the halfway mark into an unexpected musical landscape. On opening missive Get Your Guns vocalist Sam Forrest wins points for the line `Too dumb to keep your clothes on' before spoiling it by pilfering lyrics from Radiohead's My Iron Lung moments later. In a sly case of stealing from the thieves, source material for both Nine Black Alps' Get Your Guns and Radiohead's My Iron Lung can be sourced back to Nirvana's In Utero. Whereas Radiohead only ripped off Heart Shaped Box for the bridge to their Bends single, Manchester's Nine Black Alps remain less specific in their filching, wholeheartedly devouring Nirvana's screams, guitar squalls and heavy drum beats on the opening share of Everything Is. Although some may see it as sacrilege, less haughty consumers will find Nine Black Alps far too proficient to be mere pretenders to the grunge throne.
While Cosmopolitan and Iron Side showcase the rougher riffs, tracks such as Unsatisfied, Behind Your Eyes and Intermission present a far mellower take on the quartet's sound, closer to Ireland's Ash than Kurt Cobain's crew. Many of the tunes here are catchy and smart, but a minor problem lies in the sheer diversity of the dozen songs on Everything Is.
They may have sated the wet and grubby crowd at Glastonbury, but will the real Nine Black Alps please stand up?
These guys are about to get huge..........2005-12-06
This may well be the best album that no one knows about. Don't worry though, within a year, many people in the U.S. will have heard a song or two from these guys. Nine Black Alps are from Manchester, UK and have earned the nickname of the Nirvana of Europe. I do and don't agree with that comparison. You can tell that they draw from Nirvana's style but NBA has a distinct sound of their own.
1. Get Your Guns- This one rocks out from the start. I really like the verses of this one, more so than the chorus which is rather plain. Nice opener. 7.5/10
2. Cosmopolitan- This one starts with an Interpol-ish sound and then transforms into a rocking out song. The lyrics are very interesting, "You're not pretty enough, you're not skinny enough, you're not healthy enough, you're not shaking at our touch." This is referring to the mass media and how they make everyone feel inadequate about themselves. A solid song. 8/10.
3. Not Everyone- One of my favorites. This one reminds me of a Sonic Youth song which is definitely a plus. This song really comes together and builds up to the awesome chorus. 9/10
4. Unsatisfied- Hands down my favorite song on the album. The opening guitar sends chills down my spine everytime I hear it. I can't say enough about this song. To me, this one stands out above the others on the track. As lead singer Sam Forrest sings, "Ten out of ten for a race already run.." Yea... this one is definitely 10/10.
5. Headlights- Good song. I never skip it when I listen but then again, I'm never really excited when it comes on either. 7/10
6. Behind Your Eyes- A really pretty acoustic song which is a nice way to change up the album. "If that's the way you feel, there's no easy way out." I really like this one. 8.5/10
7. Ironside- Definitely my second favorite track. The guitar is incredible in this one and the singer conveys how he just wants to be left alone after a relationship falls apart. 9.5/10
8. Shot Down- I've found out that this is a fan favorite. An older sounding song which I like quite a bit. 8/10
9. Just Friends- The lead singer Forrest singing about how he is always too late and never around to start a relationship with this girl. Short and Sweet. 8/10
10. Everybody Is- Pretty good. Somewhat of an angry song. Nothing spectacular, but again, I definitely don't skip it. 7.5/10
11. Intermission- The other acoustic song of the album. Not quites as good as Behind Your Eyes, but still a song that you want to hear. 8/10
12. Southern Cross- The closer for the album is a very good one. I like the singer's voice in this one as he changes keys a few times. Nice way to finish out a great debut. 8.5/10
These guys are not known now, but they will be. Just as UK bands such as Franz Ferdinand, Coldplay, Bloc Party, and Keane have swept through America, Nine Black Alps will soon be more than a band known only in Europe.
Overall, Everything Is = 8.3/10
Everything is Nine Black Alps.......2005-10-19
Zamislite spoj The Lemonheads, Teenage Fanclub i Nirvana!
Bravo!
