The Most Relaxing Classical Album In the World Eveer, Volume II.......2006-08-28
Good selection of music, poorly performed and badly arranged. Good album for a tag sale. Same comment applies for Volume I.
Great music listein to while you read in bed.......2005-08-21
I have listened to this CD for the last several years before going to sleep at night. I love classical music, and this is great music to help make my soul feel at peace and unwind after a taxing day.
A must buy for the non-snobbish classical music fan........2004-10-22
I bought Vol. 1 of this series and was quite satisfied, but I have to say I'm more than satisfied with this one. If you can just mellow out and enjoy some great pieces, you'll love this CD. #15 on Disc 2 is almost worth the price alone!
A bliss of spirit........2004-09-18
That's disc will open You a wonderful, beautiful world of sounds, their harmony & emotion : you'll feel your heart full of
Joy, Tears, Love.
Good LUCK!
Boring.......2004-05-11
Yes this CD will put you to sleep in minutes. Its the most boring uninspiring classical music. The first CD was very good but this Vol. 2 is like most movie sequels....AWFUL !

Few would disagree that ever since Roger Waters divorced himself from Pink Floyd in 1983 both of the estranged parties have been less effective for the lack of the others' involvement. Not that the years have been wasted, as Flickering Flame--a compilation of key tracks from Waters's solo albums as well as hitherto unheard material--amply demonstrates. Anyone who imagined that Waters's personal and understandably heartfelt ruminations on the loss of a father he never knew (killed at Anzio during World War II) on The Final Cut--the last Floyd album to feature Waters at the helm and practically his solo album in all but name--would prove to be an ultimately cathartic moment of self-exorcism has underestimated the extent to which Waters still experiences frustration at the world's inability to sort itself out. Like Aussie-Scot folk protester Eric Bogle and The The's Matt Johnson, Waters is happiest (unhappiest?) when addressing the futility of self-serving international aggression and socio-political inequality, the ubiquity of which in his material's subject matter can make any Roger Waters album an exacting experience for all but the diehard pacifist Pink Floyd fan. Even so, Waters is articulate, earnest, and portentous (if occasionally pompous), and moments like the cable TV-inspired satire of war as a narcissistic, armchair spectator sport on "Perfect Sense," the glimmers of hope in "Each Small Candle" (inspired by a small instance of Serbian kindness during the Kosovo conflict), and the lullaby of "The Tide Is Turning" all represent him at his most powerfully literate peak. Of the previously unreleased material, a straight cover of Dylan's "Knockin' on Heaven's Door"--from the score of the Israeli film The Dybbuk of the Holy Apple Field--is the best, it being impossible to disassociate from the tragedy of Dunblane, an event which probably angered Waters no end. Less essential is "Flickering Flame"--which is sung in a silly hick-town hillbilly accent--and "Lost Boys Calling" (original demo) which is off-puttingly out of tune. --Kevin Maidment

Customer Reviews:
Very good CD.......2007-03-11
Well worth the effort. One of his rare CDs and features some great tracks.
Crashed my system.......2006-09-12
Amen to the previous review, this cd crashed my computer. Do not buy this in hard disk form, look for it on itunes or something. Shame on the makers. The only warning I had was in german on the disk case. I don't read freakin german.
Australia-only release--Disregard Krishnaswamy's Rant.......2005-12-09
This is a response to Raghuram Krishnaswamy's review, who probably didn't realize that this was a very limited, regional release.
Flickering Flame was only released in Australia, and it was released to promote Waters' (at the time) upcoming concerts there. Waters toured extensively from 1999-2001, and this release was given out to radio stations, the fan club and anyone else interested, to get people excited about Waters playing in Sydney etc. So, if Waters was really interested in the money, he could've released this worldwide. It was really just a promitional tool in a very specific region (Australia).
That said, I think Roger's comments on the Echoes compilation stand up.
This is for die-hard fans really, those who don't already own Towers of Faith. Plus, the title track, though a demo, is definitly worth picking up if you're a fan--the lyrics are really great.
Yes You CAN Be Famous and still gripe at the world!.......2005-02-26
I am sick and tired of hearing about the fact that just because Waters is rich he can't complain about the hypocrisy and maliciousness of the rich and the powerful on planet earth! Why NOT?? Is there a rule somewhere that says that once you are rich you can't complain about the crap the rest of the rich and powerful do? Do you have to join their club just because you have as much money as THEY do? Doesnt that mean that only people WITHOUT a voice can complain? And what good does THAT do? It only means that the rich keep getting richer in all their devious ways, the planet continues with destruction and NOBODY says a word except for poor schmucks with only $500 in their savings account and credit card payments up the yinyang. It seems backward that the way Waters got this rich was WITH the massage he is singing about...so he has remained true. But people who JUST wanted to make money would have changed their message to fit 'what sells'. He has not. Shows you where his priorities are. The album is great. All the songs have heart and power. His genuine nature stands tall. Get it.
A good Album.......2004-08-16
Roger Waters has put 12 tracks on this album. Unlike the previous albums of Roger Waters they do not form a story when played after each other. No this album is more a sampler of Roger Waters Solo Projects and 3 not previously recorded tracks.
The Album starts with a Bob Dylan Song. "Knocking on Heavens Door" in wich Roger waters is joind by female background singers. His voice is unique , you either like it or your dislikte it. For those who like it, this is a good cd in good qualtiy wich Roger is known for.
Too Much Rope , from Amused To Death is a good but slightly strange song, but it is excellent for testing since there are some noises like Woodchopping , Horse sound, Ferrari and a sleigh with horses coming from left to right (if you have set your cd or dvd player well on to the amplifier)
The Tide is Turning from Radio KAOS and The Wall Live in Berlin, is a song in which Roger Waters gives his opinion to a lot of items.
Perfect Sense part I & II are of course from Amused to Death and are excellent , especially because it is a live recording
with a solo of PP Arnold who in her own way practically blows away the audience.
Three Wishes is a track i also like. no special notes nescessairy. 5.06 AM (Every strangers Eyes from The Pro's and Cons Album is in this album perhaps a bit off the other tracks wich also counts for track 7 and 8.
Flickering Flame is a new demo recording of Roger and i have to get used to it , mind that it is not a bad song , i just have to hear it more..
Towers of faith is a movie track, good and fine.
Radio Waves from Radio KAOS is strange to me because it is one of the few albums i do not own. but it sounds good.
Lost Boys Calling is the last track and same like Flickering flame i need some time to get used to it wich doesn't mean its bad

Boz takes a risk, and comes out ahead.......2007-03-13
I'm certainly in the camp of those reviewers who were favorably pleased with this collection of terrific old standards, handled in Scaggs' unique style. But (and maybe this is part of the problem for some other listeners), I wasn't instantly convinced. Scagg's voice is soft, somewhat delicate, and rather unique in timbre. He can't (and doesn't try to) put a muscular, swinging spin to the tunes, but, instead, consistent with his vocal equipment, sings them relatively straight, quiet, and easy, in ballad format. For those of us who a) listen to more traditional jazz singers and/or b) know Scaggs' voice from his pop material, one's first impression may well be jarring. I first listened to the CD a couple of times, and then put is aside for almost a year before I picked it back up again. This second time around, it all came together, and now it is on my regular play list. He's found one really good way to approach these tunes, that fully fits his voice, and is expressive and effective. It's also unique, and, as we know, sometimes uniqueness doesn't work for the listener right away.
I think the band is great. I don't know what to say about comments about the drummer; I like his work. He plays quite a bit on the bell of his cymbal, which gives it a, well, bell-like ringing sound, which I rather like, but it's somewhat different. My system is all tubes and a bit soft at the edges; maybe that's why it doesn't bother me.
Is it too much to wish for a follow-up, or even two?
"Handydandy" doesn't get it........2006-05-06
Tom B "handydandy" missed the point entirely when he wrote his review in 2003. Listen to "I Should Care", the man is sad and he is probably looking out the window as he sings thinking of what was, could have been, but alas, wasn't meant to be. By the way Boz is not one of my favorites and I must commend him for this track at least.
Thumbs Down on the percussions.......2006-05-03
Concerning one reviewer who mentioned about shooting the drummer. Better alternative is probably to find a different studio. One reviewer mentions the drummer being one of the best from the Bay area. Well, the results don't show it! I agree with other reviewers who complain about this aspect of the recording. Anybody suggesting otherwise should listen to better jazz recordings and pay close attention to percussions.
With any great jazz vocalists like Joe Williams, Ella Fitzgerald or Shirley Horn, you can hear the percussions are there to support the vocalist - excluding the solo passages. This recording ignores the possibilty that the audience is more likely interested to hear Boz Scaggs - not the best drummer from the Bay area!
Without variation the percussions sound as loud and up-front as the vocalist. This IMHO ruins an otherwise fine recording. What was the engineer thinking and how could Boz Scaggs let this thing go out the door?
On the vocals aspect, Boz Scaggs's voice is still enjoyable to listen. The interpretation and phrasing on some of the well known jazz ballads sound a bit hollow and he does not sing like he believes in the lyrics but his voice is still euphonic and romantic as ever. Transparency of the vocals and the instruments are good but the percussion work is out of step from rest of the music. It is obtrusive, artificial and behaves like it wants to stick it in your face. Many of the tracks have this annoying brush noise like FM static.
No doubt, with better audio equipment the listener will hear the brush work with more realism - I just question the way it is put together. Probably the best track is number 7 which has no percussions.
I listened to this CD number of times and I find it enjoyable if I can block out the annoyances. Each time I have to make an effort to ignore the percussion work - played like some amateur is practising on a Casio keyboard.
I hope Boz Scaggs finds another studio and drummer for future projects to do justice to his fine talent.
The other day I listened to 'Middle Man' from Boz Scaggs which is by far more superior in terms of audio engineering. Some of the tracks sound a bit dated but as a whole, it still shines as high quality pop+rock material. I was curious and read the insert to find out that it was digitially remastered by Doug Sax. If you don't know who he is just check out the 'The Weavers Reunion at Carnegie Hall: 1963 [LIVE]'. This is a legendary recording and even if you are not a fan of American Folk, you will enjoy the whole package (music+performance+audio quality).
But Beautiful.......2006-03-22
One of the most romantic CD's ever. Boz takes you to another world. Something to dream to.
Superb standards collection.......2005-11-22
I consider this album to be the finest collection of standards I have ever heard recorded by a pop/rock singer, better even than the famous ones by Linda Ronstadt and miles ahead of the grating ones by Rod Stewart. But I am convinced that the earlier reviewers who hated the drums on Boz's album (one person said "the world's worst drummer"!!) have never heard music like this and thus have no idea how the drums are supposed to sound in a collection of jazz ballads. Jason Lewis is one of the very best drummers in the San Francisco Bay Area, and his playing on this CD is absolutely spot-on perfect. Please ignore the ignoramuses who say otherwise, for they clearly don't know how to listen to this style of music.

Customer Reviews:
Like any other band from the 80's .......2007-04-17
Ive heard about the almighty Motley Crue from a coworker who kept on bragging about how great these guys were. Well they have some good music but its not that great. A few songs stand out like Shout at the devil, Wild Side, and Girls Girls Girls but the rest of the songs are generic. Sex, Drugs, and Rock n Roll. But isnt that what its all about? I much rather hear Guns n Roses any day.
Crucial Crue.......2006-08-01
Motley Crue. Their exploits are the stuff of legend, and their music changed the look and feel of heavy metal. They quickly climbed to the top of the Hollywood hair metal pack, and stayed there well into the 1990's.
The band's back catalog has been reissued so many times it's hard to keep track of them all...until now. Music To Crash Your Car To Volume 1 is the definitive collection of early Motley Crue recordings. You get the band's first four albums - Too Fast for Love, Shout at the Devil, Theater of Pain, and Girls, Girls, Girls - all digitally remastered plus a wealth of bonus material.
Here's what you get:
Disc 1 - The complete Too Fast for Love album, plus the highly sought after original Leathur mix of Too Fast for Love. This is the real highlight of the box set, as it lets fans hear how the band's first album was really supposed to sound. Too Fast for Love is my favorite Crue album, so this is my favorite disc in the box set.
Disc 2 - This one starts with a few Too Fast for Love bonus tracks, after which we get the whole Shout at the Devil album. Closing out the disc are some demos and b-sides from that album. The sequencing makes it hard to listen to this disc as an "album," but I don't see a way around that short of expanding the box set to 5 CDs.
Disc 3 - This disc contains the full Theatre of Pain album, plus various demos and outtakes from that album. This is probably my least favorite of the Crue's early albums. I know the power ballad "Home Sweet Home" was a hit, but the rest of the album didn't have the same wild energy of the band's first two releases.
Disc 4 - This disc gives you the full Girls Girls Girls album, plus the assorted demos, remixes, and live versions. Motley Crue was on top of their game with this album, and the song Wild Side is one of the best metal tracks of that era. Their cover of Jailhouse Rock is a fun addition, and works a lot better than the band's take on Smokin' in the Boys' Room.
Overall, Music to Crash Your Car To is everything a box set should be. The only drawback is that the album artwork and liner notes (lyrics, etc.) are missing from the box set. If you can live without them (and it's not like Motley Crue's lyrics are that hard to understand), this comprehensive box set is the best way to catch all of the classic Crue albums in one shot.
COMPLETE!.......2005-06-23
This box set is made for fans who want to collect EVERYTHING without spillovers. Not only do you get every song (in original order) from their first 4 albums, but you also get extra tracks on thier re-issues as well as tracks exclusive only to this set. Fans of "Too Fast For Love" won't be disappointed with the Leathur Mix version. The booklet is full-color and filled with pictures I've never seen before. The ONLY downside to owning this set is that the original album covers are not included.
A great compilation.......2005-04-12

There is also a booklet that comes with this box set that has several cool pictures, a track list, songs, credits, and there are two stories- "Why Motley Matters" (written by Shaun Pollit)and "Motley Crue Ruined My Life (for which I am eternally grateful"), that was written by Dante Bonutto. Shaun Pollit is the founder and webmaster of www.motley.com (the official website for The Crue), and Dante Bonutto is a London based journalist, a former artist, and a repertoire man for Eastwest records UK. He wrote the Motley Crue biography entitled "The Comedy and The Tragedy: The First Five Years". Since both Pollit and Bonutto have worked with Motley Crue, it is nice to see that they have had some contribution to this box set. All of the above mentioned are pros for this box set, so that me cover a couple of cons about it:
All of Motley Crue's albums have been re-issued, and besides the bonus tracks that appeared on them, they all also happen to be enhanced. While this box set has Motley Crue's first four albums repackaged with bonus tracks, the CDS are not enhanced, which would have been a nice addition for this box set.
Some of the same songs appear on this box set.
People with Ipods: Since this box set has Motley Crue's first four albums repackaged with bonus tracks, don't get confused: Itunes will put (or at least they did for mine)disc one and disc two together, instead of putting them seperately as disc one and disc two. As for discs three and four, disc three will be listed as "1985-Theatre Of Pain" and disc four as "Girls, Girls, Girls". All of what I just mentioned is not a con about this box set, and just becuase it did that on my Ipod doesn't mean that it will do that on yours, but if you have an Ipod and Itunes does the exact same thing with your copy of this box set like it did mine, I hope all of what I just mentioned saves you some confusion. Itunes does have a copy of this box set available-but it is only a partial album, so you won't get every song, and you will have to purchase it song by song. Besides, with the booklet and the liner notes, I would strongly recommend you get this box set at the store or order it off the internet.
Overall:
This is one of the box sets that has been released so far, and if you are a Motley Crue fan, add this to your collection, and don't forget to get Volume Two of this box set.
Too Smart To Fall For This... Too Smart To Fall..........2005-01-09
Here's my mega review:
Look me up when you release Too Fast For Love: Leathur BY ITSELF for $15, then we'll all get together and have some laughs. As for this set, I guess it's just me whose laughing. Don't I already have 90% of this stuff on you know, the , uh, cd's I bought?? You remember those round things right? The things that have the cover art, and the lyrics sheets this DOESN'T have?

Customer Reviews:
This the first in a series of great holiday tunes from wcbs-fm and collectables........2005-12-10
This album has all the great basic tunes for christmas...However to complete your collection of christmas tunes, you may want to look at vol 2 thru 6 and beyond....A great album that captures christmas at its best...A must have for your collection and highly recommended 5 star rated ...
A solid "oldies" collection.......2002-01-03
A nice mix of doo-wop and soul on this one. The Drifters version of "White Christmas" is worth the price itself if you don't have a copy. From the Supremes to Chuck Berry, this set definitely gives you a playlist from your favorite oldies station that would kick in around the holiday season. I could have done without Jimmy Boyd's "I Saw Mommy kissing Santa Claus" which may be the slowest version of this particularly bad song I have ever heard, but overall this is a good collection for lovers of Christmas tunes.
Great series of holiday tunes.......2001-12-20
This is the first of six volumes. All offer some great holiday recordings but none are perfect. Depending on your musical tastes, you can select quite a few tracks from each volume to put together a first-rate mix tape or CD.
This first volume offers the most "classsics" with Brenda Lee's "Rockin' Around The Christmas Tree," Bobby Helms' ""Jingle Bell Rock," Gene Autry's "Rudolph," and the Harry Simeone Chorale's "Little Drummer Boy" among the offerings. Each volume also gives you a few holiday favorites from the cream of '60s Motown (in this volume it's Stevie Wonder's "What Christmas Means to Me" and "Silver Bells" by the Supremes) and '70s soul (here it is Donny Hathaway's "This Christmas" and The O'Jays "Christmas Ain't Christmas Without The One You Love").
What is unique to this series is the new holiday songs by your favorite Doo Wop artists that you won't find anywhere else. On volume one, both "You're My Christmas Present" by the Skyliners and "Christmas Serenade" by Johnny Maestro hold their own with the standards.
If you don't have any of these collections and are on a limited budget, I suggest buying them in numerical order (One first, Six last) until you get them all. Nearly every holiday recording of note - plus many unknown gems - are found on these discs.
the beginning of a great christmas collection.......2001-12-20
I'm one of these people who LOVES christmas music. It really
gets me in the spirit. Over the years I probably have close to
30 Christmas CDs and this particular collection ranks right
at the top, as far as collections go. As you would suspect, Volume one has many of the heavy hitter Christmas songs from the
rock n roll era including rockin around the tree, jingle bell rock, what christmas means to me, the original little drummer boy
as well as two more recent classics: you're my christmas present
and christmas serenade. The "gimmick" to all these albums is that
they have 25 songs for the 25th which gives you about an hour or
so of music. Definitely worth your time, I like them all.
THANK YOU JOE MCCOY.......1999-09-07
This is the first of many EXCELLENT holiday collections by WCBS-FM New York-thanks to Program Director Joe McCoy for putting together such wonderful Christmas music. Each volume has something for everyone to enjoy, in every age group. Many are songs I've grown up with, and still more are songs I'd heard for the first time & will continue to enjoy for years to come. If you're starting to put together your own collection of Christmas music, this series is a great way to start & you'll want to play them at your next Christmas party. Highly recommended.

Ah, the '80s. Gene loved Jezebel; Berlin was more a band than a city; folks of all races and creeds would gather together on weekends to Wang Chung. Those hazy, lazy days are commemorated in Geffen Vintage 80s, Volume 1. As the title implies, this is only Geffen stuff (Madness, Debbie Harry, Stan Ridgway, Plimsouls, Ric Ocasek, a half-dozen others), so you get your Quarterflash singing "Take Me to Heart" but no Pat Benatar singing "We Live for Love." Oh, well. That's another volume. --Steven Stolder
Customer Reviews:
totally so-so 80's.......2002-07-31
Half good, half bad. The good half however is really good. The songs by Quarterflash, Madness, and Debbie Harry are all classic 80's. But it's "Emotion in motion" by Ric Ocasek, and "No more words" by Berlin that makes this collection well worth the two bucks I got it for used. Would you pay full price for a collection that nobody reviewed in seven years? Only if you want to Wang Chung tonight.

Album Description
Excellent recording, energetic performances and close to zero 'fixing' in the studio set this CD apart from most Live albums. This band is a 70s legend because the fans knew how well they played and sang together, that Orleans was always grittier and more exciting at a gig than their records could capture. Finally, 18 years into the band's career they did capture it and here it is. Culled from 2 nights at the Bearsville Theatre in Woodstock NY, where they call home. With guest appearances by John Sebastian, Jonelle Mosser and others.

Customer Reviews:
Excellent - Both Technically and Emotionally.......2006-02-08
I am new to the masterpieces of woodwind composition, and this is my first purchase of strictly woodwind works. Based on this CD,the New York Woodwind Quintet is the psychic classical music equivalent of the Modern Jazz Quartet (MJQ). Each note is given the care it deserves, from the first track to the last, just as the MJQ did on most of their recordings. The fact that Elliot Carter's work is represented on this recording perhaps gives the entire album a vanguard feel - even pastoral themes communicated with a gentle horn effect seem new and edgy.
It should also be said that the precision given to the recording is only surpassed by the attention given to emotional effect. The careful listener will be rewarded with a range of feelings and moods. This is a top notch CD.
Great Artists brisk through a difficult repertoire.......2001-09-27
These are superb artists playing on fine instruments and achieving fine balance and blend; and the sound is too good to be true. Some of these recordings come from the early 1960s but Boston Skyline have brought out the very best and it would be difficult to fault them even today.
The disc contains a variety of music ranging from the 17th Century to the present day, the latter represented above all by two eminent American composers, namely Samuel Barber and Elliot Carter. I'm afraid I've always held Elliot Carter in deep suspicion, purely a personal view since Carter, like so many of the avant garde, does not construct the musical linguistics as he goes along; thus the listener has no common musical linguistic base on which to comprehend the music inwardly. At best, to me, the music comes over as 'interesting'. In this work, at least he shows he can write something of a fugue in the fantasia. However, he commands a following and I'm bound to agree that the New York Woodwind Quintet make his music listenable.
Barber's Summer Music is a different matter entirely. The work is as approachable as any Barber and is pure summer. It begins with a lazy, laid-back (and horribly difficult intro for the bassoon which is exposed in the most upper reaches of its register); soon to dissolve into dance-like themes in rapid staccato, so light and airy they could be nothing other than summer. Then more drifting under rolling clouds set in a perfect blue sky. A beautiful work in which Barber shows he is as much at ease composing for a woodwind quintet as any other medium.
I was snared by the sensitivity of these artists, more so because their expressiveness comes across in these historic recordings without being forced. I've heard other, mechanically accurate recordings of the Neilsen and Barber but nothing that approaches the expressive qualities of this ensemble. They deserve never to be forgotten.
