Description

Tamia is one of the world's most loved R&B singers with a career highlighted by two certified gold albums, has arrived with her a new studio album and fourth release featuring a mixture of club tracks, duets and mainstream R&B songs produced by proven hitmakers Rodney Jerkins and Shep Crawford. Four time Grammy Nominee and Winner of the Best Vocal Performance Award, Tamia's long awaited follow-up to her hit record More finds the sultry, sophisticated singer at both a creative and personal apex. The 15-song disc, Between Friends, sizzles with her trademark sensuality, but it is also buoyed by a sparkling personality that her fans don't always get to see. Like her past efforts, the disc is anchored by stunning vocal displays that rival this generation's greatest voices. The album features the hit track "Can't Get Enough" which is one of the most highly anticipated songs from one of radio's favorite artists.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars This album is excellent.......2007-07-06

Go on Tamia! This album is so good. I can drive to it, exercise to it, relax to it, and sleep to it! I am truly inspired by Tamia and have been a fan of hers since forever. She sings like a bird, her voice is beautiful! My favorite songs are ME (love the video & the message), ALMOST, PROTECT MY HEART, LAST FIRST KISS, SITTIN ON THE JOB, CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF YOU...I could go on and on. Excellent job Tamia, I can't wait to see what the next album will be like. I am your fan!

5 out of 5 stars Tamia is one of the most under rated female R&B singers.......2007-06-19

It was May when I heard a cut from Between Friends, 6 months after the CD was released. Tamia has on of the most distincitve voices on the scene and she is often slept on and gone unnoticed. She is a force to be reckoned with.

4 out of 5 stars Tamia is the truth.......2007-06-07

Tamia is a rare artist who is talented and can more than carry a note. Between friends has everything you could ever want in a cd. For example this album has the club banger (Too Grown For That), the slow jams (Can't Get Enough Of You & Last First Kiss) and a powerful track (Me). Tamia does a great job of bring the songs to life and she sounds great over any beat. This album will definitely stay in your rotation!!!

MY TOP FIVE

1. The Way I Love You
2. Can't Get Enough Of You
3. Almost
4. Happy
5. Become Us

5 out of 5 stars Hats off to a Job well done!.......2007-06-05

I became a big fan of Tamia's when I was in college with the second Cd A NU Day and since then that chic has been blowing me away. I heard the African release of Between Friends before it was released in the US and was blown away. She is one of the most under-rated singers in the industry. In a world of none singing little kids she provides a breath of fresh air. "Me" can easily rival "Stranger in my House". Become Us" and "To Grown for That" are crazy up-tempo tracks. I instantly gravitated to "Almost" the minute I heard it! I've never heard that concept before. Last First Kiss says it all again this introduced another concept in a world of tasteless unoriginal R&B. "Sitting on the Job" is another one of my favorites. I'm really happy she changed this into a full song.

If you don't have this in your collection then you are truly missing a gem. HATS OFF TO TAMIA!

This is not one of the best rnb record that I've heard. They are not the best songs but Tamia's voice is lovely, one of the better voices in the industry. Buy it¡

5 out of 5 stars Classic.......2007-02-12

This is a classic CD! This CD will never grow out of style!and it's not even a recent CD. This is actually my third time rebuying this CD because I keep lending it out and never get it back. but It's just that good. anytime u buy an older CD over and over that speaks for itself. U wont be disapointed. believe me! Every song is very good.

4 out of 5 stars Hello, Tamia fans. This is what I thought of the album:.......2007-02-05

Before I get to the review, I'm gonna say that I've listened to this album twice already.

Imagination - 3.5 stars. This song really had to grow on me. I didn't like it much at first but since I bought the CD it has grown on me.

So Into You - 4.5 stars. Definitely one of the best tracks here.

Never Gonna Let Go of You - 3.5 stars. This song isn't too bad.

Falling For You - 4 stars. Nice upbeat song. It's a good change of pace. Maybe it should be later on in the CD though to break up all the slow songs later.

Show Me Love - 3.5 stars. This is a slower song. It sounded like I really was gonna like this one but it is really repetitive. Not terribly, but enough that you notice.

Rain On Me - 3.5 stars. This song shares the same fate as Show Me Love: it's repetitive. And the lyrics "I've been hurt so bad, at times it makes me sad, would you rain on me" aren't the best.

Is That You? - 3.25 stars. This song is a nice change of pace but it's not the greatest song. It's not really what Tamia should be singing, IMO.

Who Do You Tell? - 3.75 stars. This is a decent song.

Gotta Move On - 3.75 stars. This song isn't too bad. Two things I like about it: The simple guitar and the strong chorus that doesn't get annoying.

This Time It's Love - 3.75 stars. This song unfortunately falls under the same category as two songs before it. It has decent lyrics, especially in the beginning but the chorus is just too repetitive.

Loving You Still - 4.75 stars. Finally, a *great* song. This is probably the best song here. It has very strong vocals and nice lyrics. Enjoy this great ballad!

Careless Whisper - 3.25 stars. This is probably the weakest track on the CD. IMO, It's not a great remake and the chorus is just annoying. Some people said they liked it but I don't really see what they see in it. The sax isn't bad though.

You Put A Move On My Heart - 4.75 stars. Beautiful song. It's a classic. It's a shame that I only thoroughly enjoyed 3 songs. But this one sets the mood.

Final Grade: 3.826923077 stars...rounded up to 4. This is definitely better than her latest, Between Friends. I don't own A Nu Day or More but overall, I can recommend this CD to R&B lovers.

I purchased this CD on January 30, 2007 according to Amazon. Hope you enjoyed and got something out of this. Peace.

--Adrian

Tamia's sophomore effort begins with the singer's crisp, angelic voice a cappella, wrapped around a mournful interlude about a relationship gone awry. It's a gorgeous intro, and put there perhaps to remind listeners that the 24-year-old vocalist from Windsor, Canada, can sing like nobody's business when given the opportunity. Unfortunately, most of the tracks on A Nu Day deny Tamia the chance, with ho-hum, practically rote R&B fare produced, surprisingly, by some of the best in the biz. When Missy Elliott brings her production skills to the table on the album's first single, "Can't Go for That" (Elliott also produces four other cuts), it's as if the tune is running on automatic, with all of Elliott's stop-start, jerk-heavy rhythms running listlessly beneath a sample of the Hall and Oates song of the same name. "Tell Me Who," a collaboration with producer Shep Crawford, fares better, managing to capture a sassy, straight-up feel reminiscent of early En Vogue. The album offers a pleasant surprise, however, with a cover of the 1983 DeBarge tune, "Love Me in a Special Way," on which Tamia works wonders, her sonorous mezzo soprano digging soulfully into the soaring melody. --Sylvia W. Chan

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars One of my old favorites........2007-06-27

I got this cd when I was in High school. I was in love with it. Still am actually. I can't understand why anyone would have given her below 3 stars on this LP. The CD is tight. Best song Dr. John.
Another CD that goes good with this was Deborah Cox, "One Wish."

5 out of 5 stars Tamia's best album..........2007-04-11

...even though her new album "Between Friends" comes as a close second (one of best R&B releases this year). "A Nu Day" has her biggest hit "Stranger in My House", but it has many more quality tracks. Her cover of "Love me in a Special Way" is beautiful because of Tamia's delivery with the lyrics. "Dear John" actually was a good opening track, it's a song full of drama (also check "Tell Me Who") and you almost get caught up in it (like R. Kelly's Mr. Biggs song series). "Long Distance Love" has a real catchy chorus, and while it does sound like it came from a commercial, the outstanding production (I think Missy E. did it) makes it standout to me. "Can't No Man" is sexy sounding track, with its calling lyrics and pretty production. This whole album I thought was really listenable. I didn't feel an urge to fast forward over tracks, unlike I did with her third album "More"(which had good tracks like "Officially Missing You" and "Questions"). I really recommend this overlooked album. Also check out her new album and her debut.

5 out of 5 stars MY FAV OF TAMIA'S WORK!!!!!.......2007-01-10

This is hands down to me her best work..... it flows, you groove, the music just moves you from inside out.

4 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars.......2006-11-25

I brought this one out of the vaults the other day and it is as tight as I remembered it to be. A Nu Day, in my opinion, is Tamia at her best.

5 out of 5 stars Nu Day it is!.......2006-01-14

Tamia, grew up on this album, gone are the sugary sweet (good but to nice) lyrics of her first album. She has grown up and is ready to let us in on her experience of love and break-ups in a mature fashion. This album still plays well, and is not at all outdated.

3 out of 5 stars 3.5 stars - average.......2006-11-10

Tamia desperately searches for her niche, awkwardly switching from up-tempo club tracks, sappy love songs and power ballads... and she doesn't completely perfect any of them.

4 out of 5 stars Slept on album.......2006-01-02

Ok,
Tamia is back again with a new Cd, which did not get alot of exposure.
I have been a fan of Tamia from the beginning and its always a pleasure to hear her voice.\
It's one of those cds that you can listen to from beginning to end. No bad production...just great music.
I recently had to purchase this cd again because my favorite song (Whispers) mysteriously got scratched up.
I will admit, this cd is no way near as good as her Nu day cd but hey it could have been alot worse

5 out of 5 stars Totally Blown Away But There Are Some Flaws...........2005-09-18

I've had the More album for a couple of months now, but recently I decided to give the album a chance. What I heard from Tamia was beautiful. There are some exceptions though.I could've did without On My Way,More, Into You, and Close To You.The latter two are on the featured artists cds so there wasn't really a reason to feature them.Overall Smile is my favorite track.I also love Poetry too.I'd recommend it to anyone

5 out of 5 stars SHE DID IT....AGAIN!!! ....ANOTHA BANGA..........2005-08-05

I'm scrolling through and readin the reviews and i cant help but to come across a couple negative reviews...what exactly were y'all listening to? I'm not sure y'all were "listening" at all. This album was no doubt INCREDIBLE!!! They're songs that you just dont "listen to"; not with just your ears...but songs you have to listen with your heart; there's a big difference. Tamia's "More" is another fine example to prove that she still has that spark that made us fall in love with her from "Tamia" Though she slacked a tad bit on a "Nu Day" she redeemed herself on this album.

Luvables: Officially Missing You, Still, I'm yours lately,mr.cool...just to name a few...they are all hott!!

Worth every Penny...2 BIG TOES UP!!

Big Upz Tamia!!

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful.......2005-07-17

While her debut did not convince me, I like this CD a lot. It is sung so well and she shows to have such a strong and versatile voice. All her songs are sung heartfelt and the choice of songs is very good. The music goes deep. There is no real dance track on it, more ballads, but they are most beautiful. Songs like "Poetry", "Smile" or "Still" are the creme of it all. I can't stop playing this CD. Wonderful!

Thunderpuss rules! The beats on their mix of Tamia's "Stranger in My House" are insane!!! Here's a list of their Top 10 remixes:
1. It's Not Right, But It's Okay by Whitney Houston
2. Lady Marmalade by Moulin Rouge!
3. Tell Me Why by Spice Girls
4. Song for the Lonely by Cher
5. Stranger in My House by Tamia (this release)
6. I'm A Slave 4 U by Britney Spears
7. All for You by Janet Jackson
8. Can't Fight the Moonlight by LeAnn Rimes
9. Get the Party Started by P!nk (actually just Barry Harris)
10. No More Drama by Mary J. Blige

On to this CD...
Wonderful dance music. That about sums it up.

4 out of 5 stars Tamia should be no stranger to dance fans.......2006-03-15

The remixes of ' Stranger in My House' are the best club remixes ever produced - period! The ' Thunderpuss Club Mix' is pure dance heaven, outdoing even their already quite impressive work on Whitney Houston's ' It's Not Right'. The stop-and-go beats typifying the song's bridge are exactly what dance-lovers have come to love about Thunderpuss - thunderooooous! The 'HQ2 Club Mix' is equally enjoyable, though less of a classic moment than, let's say, Melanie C's ' I Turn to You'. The 'Maurice's Club Anthem' is perhaps the only weak mix in the collection, coming off as a pale imitation of the above-mentioned mixes. Considering the lacklustre mixes he did for Destiny Child, this does not come as a surprise. All in all, this is a superb CD.

5 out of 5 stars Club Hit in the HOUSE!.......2005-07-31

This is one of the best Club Hits of all time. Tamia has a great voice and this mixes are hot! I love especially the H2Q Club Mix..

5 out of 5 stars Tamia - Stranger In My House.......2003-12-03

Okay here's the thing, I don't see how anyone can get LeAnn Rymes & Tamia's voices mixed up, as they are completely different & both sing very different styles of music.

Plus, just because they are both from Canada does not mean they have to sound the same! Tamia has a very unique & powerful style as do most R&B/Soul singers and would be more likely to be compared to someone like Deborah Cox or Chante Moore.

Anyway, in relation to "Stranger In My House" this is a hot LP which includes some great club mixes and also a So So Def Remix by JD himself, which I always like to see!

The song is fantastic both lyrically & vocally but I wouldn't expect anything less from Tamia as she is an extremely talented artist.

I would also recommend you pick up the album the song is lifted from "Nu Day" for more of the same plus appearances from the other single "Can't Go For That", Missy Elliott's production and even an appearance from Snoop Dogg.

Please also see if you can get your ears on a song from her third album called "Mr.Cool" which features Mario Winans & is definetely one of her best to date.

Tamia is a very beautiful and undeniably talented vocalist and I'm glad she's not lowered herself to trying to please the mainstream, prefering to go the way that suits her and us real R&B and Soul fans. Keep it up Tamia we're all rooting for you!

PS. What's going on with "Still" or "More" or whatever the new album is called now? I've checked on Elektra's and Tamia's websites and there is a supreme lack of info! Hit me back by e-mail if you know anything anyone!

I came across this single at Target, on clearance no less. And that orange sticker is like a magnet for me. Despite never hearing of the song, I bought it and figured there are hundreds of worse ways to spend my money. At first listen I was less than impressed, from the subdued first chords to the whispered chorus. After my initial listen, I set it aside and didn't think much of it. A week or two passed and I decided to pop the CD in my 3-CD player, to fill a space. I was overcome after two or three listens. Not unlike a song you hear on the radio and might change because you don't know it but will turn the volume up after a few listens, So Into You grew on me, and is still growing. A listen is required for any day to begin. So Into You has become my anthem, one of my favorite songs, and now I will follow up with a purchase of Tamia's entire CD. So Into You: A

3 out of 5 stars good single .......2004-09-08

The original version is good but the remixes are very dull and poorly done. Her older singles where much better original and remixes but this one is also good but not great.

5 out of 5 stars Officially Missing The Album!!.......2004-01-26

Yo Officially Missing You Is Just A Bomb A## Joint & i cant believe that Tamia's record label would push the album "Still" back about 2 or 3 times but now that itz happened the Album has been changed to "More" & gonna be released in April 2004, but i hope it does come out in April cause i cant wait for this album anymore

4 out of 5 stars Great Single!.......2004-01-24

Unfortunately just like Debrah Cox, Tamia isn't noticed that much on the radio unless the single she has been remixed by a club remixer. But this is definitely one of Tamia's best singles! "Stranger In My House" can not top this one, but "Officially Missing You" comes pretty close. I know Tamia is an RNB singer, but she just has such good club remixes, and that is the only place you can ever see Tamia, that's a shame. But I hope that one day Mrs. Washington will come out with a electronic pop album or something like Dannii Minogue. This single is awesome, the Mike Rizzo remix is the best! I love it! And I love when it comes on in the clubs!

4 out of 5 stars Great song.......2004-01-08

I love Tamia. I think she has a great voice, although she is NOT a Braxton.

This is a great song, and I cannot wait for the new album to come out.

3 out of 5 stars rishi.......2003-12-26

A good song, but the remixes are disappointing. Not as good as stranger in my house or can't got for that. I only hope she makes up for it with her next single.

5 out of 5 stars Into this song.......2004-11-24

This is my Favorite Fabolous song because I am a huge fan of Tamias music I love her voice and think she has had some good work.Fabolous did not have the best Lyrics but the beat had a nice feel so I will give it a rating of 5 stars.

3 out of 5 stars This song is ok!.......2004-05-08

This single is not too bad but this is not the Fabolous' best song buy this if you're a fan of Fabolous.
The style is rnb and the rnb singer Tamia makes a good thing but not his best song don't buy it if the price is too much but this cd don't may have 1 or 2 stars!

1 out of 5 stars I Like the Video at least.......2003-11-09

Fabolous here seems to be trying to re-invent himself somehwere Between Jay Z&LL COOL J.but between Him&Tamia He has more of a Career.Tamia already originally did this Cut which Samples the Commodores.Tamia Can Sing but just ain't had much luck since She parted from Quincy Jones's Fold.doing a Hook on a Song you already did with Fabolous ain't the key to turn your Career around.

2 out of 5 stars Not Into This Verison.......2003-11-02

The song is alright but the Tamia verison isn't as good as the album verison featuring Ashanti. Although their isn't much difference, the one featuring Ashanti is just better to listen to.
