Album Description
This classic Funkadelic album (from 1973) has been remastered from its original master tapes for the first time in 15 years. This is the first album with Gary Shider and marks the beginning of the tighter, more commercial, Funkadelic albums of the later Westbound years. It includes a number of dance floor favorites such as the title track "Cosmic Slop" and the much-sampled "Nappy Dugout". This 2005 CD includes the full nine tracks of the original album plus the substantially different single edit of the title track. The in-depth sleeve notes by funk expert and series consultant Dean Rudland include details of the history of the band and this recording, including information taken from an exclusive interview with original Parliamentarian Fuzzy Haskins. The CD booklet includes a full color reproduction of Pedro Bell's classic album art and contemporary adverts, pictures and memorabilia. Westbound U.S.
Customer Reviews:
YOUR HONOR! I DIDN'T DO IT!!!!.......2007-05-23
Cosmic slop means to "dance with the devil to pay your bills". Do what you don't want to do but you have to do something to survive. Bottom line. The liner notes talk about prostitution and how pimps lure young women into selling themseles. Deep liner notes.
This 5th installment with Westbound records is an all time classic. No two Funkadelic albums are alike. The opening song "Nappy Dugout" is a nice slow jammin groove with a little taste of DC in there! "You Can't Miss What U Can't Measure" is actually a cover song. It was originally by thier alter ego "THe Parliament" from a song named "Heart Trouble". The opening line was a catchy one "Worryations got a hold on me". "Witches Castle" Is about not only the nightmare of the vietnam war, but the nightmare many of the fellas' came home too. For instance. You come home to your wife, but she had remarried becaue she was under the impression that he was dead. It's an overal great album. My favorite is "Trash a go go". Don't know why it has that title but it's a song of a pimp in court sayin "Your honor, I did not do it"...lol. As another writer put it. It's HOlland Dozier HOlland on some acid. Great album.

Customer Reviews:
Too bad Lurch is famous for his non rap related activities.......2006-01-27
This album is pretty good but Big Lurch's murder bust kinda overshadows the music. For those that don't know Lurch was convicted of killin a girl and eating her lung (the law found human flesh in his stomach). Its too bad cuz the boy had a uniqe voice and a good flow. The music on this album could be compared to an early goodie mob type vibe, something to chill and smoke to, check it out for yourself. Its too bad what happend, these boys had talent and deserved to blow up.
Sheeeit mang.......2004-12-28
I first heard this album in '98 and I thought it was nuts how these dudes can rap. Lurch and that crazy ass voice of his has me goin' into convulsions when I hear him rap. This trio made an album that far surpasses the norm, and their name is one that could go down in history as one of the weirdest, yet most effective names. All but Ric Rock are from Alabama, and have a nice southern type of flow, but western America style pattern. With Ric Rock's beats, and production, it is no wonder this album is off the chain. The best tracks, are
1. "Hoe Games"
2. "Betrayal"
3. "Butterscotch"
4. "Twizms"
and
5. "Family"
Anyway, buy this for yourself, it is worth it.
Off the Hook.......2004-07-26
This disc is off the hook. If your lookin for some music that you can just chill, cruz, or smoke to well look no more. It is discontinued so the only way that you are going to find it is on the internet. In other words if you don't have this CD pick it up.
True Masterpeice.......2001-09-01
If you don't know the producer of this album is one of the manz behind Jay-Z's new cutz. "Ric Roc". Honestly I don't know how it's spelled, now seeing theirs a singer with that name. He's been underground for a while doing song for, and with RBL Posse.
That's where I first seen Big Lurch another artist from C.S.S.
Yo, the beat's are musical their isn't no racket here. Real people! Well rounded! The music is so deep I can't explain it just grabs my soul and my emotion's. Something you could blaze to and journey into another time and actually learn something from it. I feel like I'm sittin their with them, like my older brother's telling me their stories. GREAT STORY TELLERS. If I get signed to a label I'll definetily give them a call up.
I'M MAD, THEY DIDN"T GO PLATINUM. THAT"S HOW IT IS FOR THE REAL.
COSIMIC SLOP CONSIST OF:
DOONEY BABY (Who I've never heard of, got's me hooked on his
style and stories. It gave me more confidence in my
laid back style. His voice is an octave up from
Ric Roc.)
BIG LURCH (Who has a deep voice with tongue twisting words
that can't be replicated. Melodic style with
Realness and so much Character. Makes you wanna keep
rewinding.)
RIC ROC (The master of world wide beats, From E-40 to Jay-Z)
Who can top that? With the most educated spits I've
ever came across. A narrator with his flows combine
the best trio since the beginning of gangsta rap.
EXCITING REAL LIFE TALES YOU CAN
VISUALIZE LIKE OUTKAST.
(...) I'm MAD THIS ALBUM WENT OUT OF PRINT! I FINALLY FOUND IT.

Customer Reviews:
Love the Funk but don't order on Amazon.......2006-05-03
I ordered this and several other hard to find P-Funk cds. I waited more 2 months. Then, the week they were supposed to arrive, I received an email that my credit card had been declined. I found out that was simply a lie. I had just used the same care the week before this order and used it after, all on Amazon. I don't know why Amazon is offering these cds if they can't fill the order.
Truly Awful.......2006-03-16
Wow, I like many, many different types of music, but this is really, really bad. Please don't believe me - Simply listen to the clips. Wow.
Raw and WILD Funk That Last.......2006-02-20
'Cosmic Slop' was the first Funkadelic CD I ever purchased.I was 16 and well aclimated to Parliamnt and George Clinton's solo album 'You Should'nt've Bit Fish'.The minute I laid eyes on this artwork I knew I was in for a funky good time. But was I ever underestimating things. The minute I started this up in my old Sony portable disk player 'Nappy Dugout' blew me away with it's raw, rhythmic funkiness. This album in particular (and the opener) owes alot of 'Payback'-period James Brown and the first school of funk-with Clinton's acid rock twists.Especially on "Trash A Go Go' Funkadelic give creedence to their name as one of the first all African American rock band. But funk is a premium and they never EVER water it down. One the rocking title cut and "You Can't Miss What You Can't Measure' the band push forward with honesty and great social insights into how the black community feels internaly.Kind of like James Brown and Sly Stone blended together for the black power movement. Those with an open mind to raw honesty and wisdom will not only be able to get this music but can boogie to it too.On "March Of The Witches Castle" George Clinton delivers one of his patended elder wiseman dialogs he is so good at.And Eddie Hazel is a GENIOUS on guitar-only recently accepted as such in the rock world next to Hendrix,Santana,Tommy Bolin and all other acid-rock funk guitar gods. The reality of life for African American's living in urban area's circa 1973 could be very unpleasant and these guys aren't about to lie about it but the story will be told on the booty shaking funky dancefloor if they had anything to do with it.After hearing this and coming to this realization I dug up all the other Funkadelic CD's-all of which are excellent.Even my own dad (from that generation and the man who introduced me to George Clinton) found the music terrific and the lyrics...well in his case drolly humorous however I took every word they said as honest (if sometimes twisted) truth and can be one of the few Funkadelic listeners who get the point of not only the music but the liberating concept.
my cosmic dream.......2006-01-26
Here is the real funk!
I just love this LP; I dream about finding it in vinyl, so I could trip with the vintage sound!!
BEST FUNKADELIC ALBUM, Best funk album ever made, one of the best rock albums ever.......2005-08-20
