Before the full length LP, this ep was released a year before. Not a lot of people are up on it. It s definitely a classic that emoboides hip hop from beginning to end. Dope samples, scratching, mixing by pete rock. The lyrical department is well covered by CL. Complete your collection of pete rock and cl and pick up this classic EP.

Plainly stated, "All Souled Out" is one of the more important EPs of early nineties hip hop. This was Pete and CL's coming out party, and although it is more obscure than their classic albums, "Mecca and the Soul Brother" and "The Main Ingredient", it contains music easily on par to those two albums. All six tracks contain the immortal production and slick lyricism that made them the best team in hip hop. Pete's talents are evident even on this early recording, with his signature horn loops, hollow drums, and intros and outros set. CL floats over the beats, always making it sound easier than it is, with his conscious yet laid back sound. Fans of old school and jazz rap should know that "All Souled Out" is a must to their collection.

"The Good Life" opens the EP, and it might be the best track of the bunch. CL's slick abilities are at their best here, speaking of the pros and cons of wealthiness over Pete's horn and bass laden track. On "Mecca and the Soul Brother", CL takes the time to introduce the duo and rap about pretty much whatever else he wants to, over a spinning and beautiful horn line. "Go With the Flow" is another favorite of mine. The beat is very unique, Pete abandons his beloved horns for a toned down flute and bass line. "The Creator" is Pete Rock's solo track, and he shines. The quick bass and horns are a perfect complement to his baritone, laid back voice, and he does a great job on the mic. "All Souled Out" is a great lyrical and musical track, and Group Home's remix to the opening track is another cool take on it, I like it almost as much as the first.

This album is a must have for anyone who enjoyed their other two. Pete and CL were arguably the best team in hip hop, and their short time together produced only limited recordings. This EP will not disappoint anyone.

As fas as introductions go, this EP by Pete Rock and CL Smooth truly showcases the talents each has to bring to the table. From the undeniable dope production on the positive "Good Life" and "Mecca and the Soul Brother", to the boastful "The Creator". Perhaps a tad short, All Souled Out is nevertheless a must for any fan of "da Two" and definitely whets the appetite for their other albums.

This EP came out in 1991 before Pete Rock & CL Smooth's critically acclaimed album Mecca & the Soul Brother. What can I say about this disc? Every track on here is a banger. My favorite being relaxed "Mecca & the Soul Brother". On this EP Pete Rock introduced the world to his soulful and jazzy style of production. The way this man flipped samples was amazing. Fans also got their first taste of the mellow flows of Pete's partner CL Smooth on this EP. They make the perfect duo. No one can rhyme over a Pete Rock beat like CL Smooth. If you're a fan of Pete & CL or generally a fan of true hip-hop then I recommend you buy this if you don't already have it.

I love TOP...but I don't love this CD. "Diggin' on James Brown" is an awesome song. But it's really the only good song on this CD. "Souled Out" is alright. But the rest of the songs aren't so good. I bought this CD and was disappointed.

Musical purity is just wonderful for those who are into that. There is only one question that really matters: does it make you want to tap your foot, to dance? Does this music make you FEEL something? YES!!

This is their best in a long time. It has a lot of the fun they deliver in a live concert. Glad to have you back guys! They are a great feel-good band with a lot of soul.

I would definately not rate this among one of T.O.P.'s towering accomplishments. The flavor of this CD seems to be slightly cheezy yet bland. Unfortunately it sounds like they have main streamed thier sound alot more, and have traded in some of thier funkier grooves for a more "commercial" and user friendly sound. Perhaps the most dissapointing aspect is the weakness of the Horn section. They have definately taken a blow from the personnel change in the trumpet section. The lines are not as tasty or arranged quite as well as they were under Greg Adams hands, and the lead trumpet sound is not as solid as it once was. In addition, I feel that the drummer was a poor choice for T.O.P. He playing is strait sounding and the electronic effects on his set gives the whole group a commercial 80's sound. Sorry, TOP I've been a fan for years, but this CD is a let down in the music selection and style. Hats off though to Rocco and "The Doc" for thier always stellar performances.

I am a long time (20 plus years) fan of Tower. I saw the original band (Lenny Williams, Brent Byers, Mic Gillette etc.) when I was in High School. I stopped listening after a few bad records like "Power" and the strange disco stuff. My copy of "Souled Out" would be worn out if were not digital! The new blood in the band keeps them fresh with ideas and a new interpretation of the Tower feel and trademark sound. I saw the band last year on the BB King tour and they were as tight as ever. My only question is: "Why is the lifespan of the Lead singers so short?"

Hey, I've listened to all their CD's too and this one might just be the best. I'm looking from a different perspective, being a younger fan (18), and I think this CD's right up there with the old stuff. In fact, I like it a lot better than what some people are calling the "return to the TOP sound" recording, "Rhythm and Business."

You recognize it when it comes through the speakers: it's another musician who has their own version of The Voice. The Voice: that special mix of power, rhythm and blues, heartfelt truth, and majesty. It's a southern thing mostly-a blend of a soul food diet (Gregg Allman), a childhood in the Arkansas Delta (Levon Helm), knowing the Creator as guidance (Solomon Burke), or being born to play the blues (Bobby Whitlock).
It's a voice that growls with a passion, rumbles from deep in the belly like a tiger's purr, and scrapes against the vocal cords like it was gravel going down a chute. And Lord have mercy, You know the children who bring it to fulfillment. They're out there making His music-and one of them is Danny Brooks.

Some strong conviction, people: He sings, "I wasn't born down in Memphis, but Memphis lives in my soul." You can fill your plate with that and never go hungry again, because Danny is every inch and pound a man of "Soulsville" hospitality. Who wrote this song: Johnny Cash? Too soon did we lose you, John-you'd have loved this one. The same chugging pressure is there. Give a listen to Brooks and the Revelators and you'll be yearning for warm Tennessee nights on the back porch with a dobro, sweet tea, black-eyed peas, cornbread and gravy, and gospel breakfast meetings. You've been Souled Out `n Sanctified. But keep an eye on your map coordinates: Danny's from Ontario. A Canadian with the earthiest feel for the Word and the good folks down yonder.

Don't ask why-it's one of those mysteries in life, and "Nobody Knows You Like the Lord." Nominated for an award this year, Danny bares his spiritual strength in simple terms-and with beautiful support from friends from the NorthernBlues Gospel All-Stars in this slow, steady song of praise. Just the basics of what you'd expect to find in a good Southern church on Sunday-but that gritty tension from Danny's voice just keeps your hands raised a little higher. And that's the beauty of what follows: "Fence Me In" is a prayer of dedication to lead a life of service and honesty. Let the tempo move a bit ("Glory Hallelujah") and listen to the clapping in your ears alongside Richard Bell's saintly organ-this is testimony of the highest kind. And if you just want to wiggle a bit in your seat for joy but show respect (while trying to follow the preacher's words), Colin Linden's mandolin will hear those thoughts to "Lift Me Up." Dennis Pinhorn's upright bass adds the warmest assurance needed-an electric 4-string would never have made it this sweet.

Young and old, brothers and sisters, we're "Soul Satisfied," and that's why it's okay to follow the urge to whistle the melody. If your chest is swelling with happiness and love is in your heart, this is a chance to offer praise alongside Danny and friends and feel terrific. If the Spirit moves you, then let it groove you, and "Standing On the Rock" is the best place to be seen. Don't stop counting the remaining songs-you'll fill your satchel with riches each time you reach out and touch them. Finally! when it's all said and done, you're "Souled Out `n Sanctified." And the satisfaction that washes throughout is from a well that has no bottom. Just let a Messenger with the Voice, Mr. Danny Brooks, sing it to you.

Definitely one of the best ever "pop" albums of all time. There is not a weak song on the album. Notice I say album and not disc ... takes me back to when I was in my twenties and would play this record before I went out for a night clubbing on the town. It put me in a great mood - every song is upbeat, fresh and unabashed popular music. Imagine it's summer, the nights are long and you are looking forward to meeting friends, perhaps even "that girl" - this just sums it all up.

I used to open my windows, crank up the Hi-Fi and belt it out each song at the top of my lungs ... I can't imagine how bad I sounded as my voice echoed down the high street, but it made me feel like a million dollars!

Buy it, love it and never look back.

Wet Wet Wet is such a great band ,and 'Popped In Souled Out"
really introduced them to the world.This cd is filled with great
classics such as "Wishing I Was Lucky","Sweet Little Mystery",
"Angel Eyes","East of the River","Temptation","I Can Give You Everything"and many many more.Marti Pellow is such a great singer,he really belts out the tunes on this one!!!!This cd takes me back to my childhood,seeing the boys from Clydebank for
the first time ,and falling in love with Marti,the man with a twinkle in his eye,a great voice,and that beautiful smile!!!!
Great to have them back together! Popped In Souled Out is a great cd,a must have for all Wet fans,and for those who enjoy
great music.
