Customer Reviews:
Great musical snapshots from the early 1980s.......2007-07-30
I listened to completely different kinds of music at the time, so I didn't have many memories attached to these songs. The musical quality of the songs is actually suprisingly good, and the mastering has been done well. This is a nice review of hits of the early 1980s. Ten songs per CD isn't much, so there could have been more songs from each year.
U have to own one if you were a teenager in 1984.......2001-12-10
This was during Xmas 1984. One lovely girl from Texas brought to Poland (this is where I live) the 10 cassetes pack with "The Best of Billboard - 1984". I still hear this music. Now I can buy a piece of it.
To anyone who was ...teen in 1984: you have to own this one. Don't tell me there is no music you remember from these years. It must be one at least. Remember the first girlfriend. The first kiss maybe? Yes! That's it!.
I want my MTV!.......2000-06-17
This set takes me back to the early days of MTV. Pac-Man fever, Atari and great times in my life. As a child of the 80s it was a special time and special music. This box set helps take you back from time to time!
this is a great collection of the top songs.......1999-09-16
again billboard has done well in putting together a box set of the best songs of this time period. you will appreciate this gathering of the best. every listening minute of this box set is pure elation. not to be passed up.

I bought it for 3 songs.......2005-08-23
It's pretty good. I specifically bought it for only 3 songs - 'Rumors,' 'I can't wait,' and 'The rain.' The whole CD could've used a lot more bass in the recording. I don't know if that's a manufacturing thing or what. But I'm a "basshead" too. I have to have the beats!
Great songs.......2005-08-03
These are some great songs on this CD. The 80's were great and this CD takes me back.
Good, if slim, compilation of 80's R&B.......2005-03-09
I also provided a review for the 1985 CD in this series put out by Rhino back in 1995. As with that one, this CD contains some good R&B tunes from 1986. However, as is the problem with most Rhino releases, it only contains 10 tracks. They could have certainly included a few more tracks to beef it up a little. The versions here are all original recordings by the original artists. This CD is superior to the 1985 edition in that 9 of the 10 songs went to #1 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1986. Two gripes I have:
#1 The inclusion of "Shake You Down" by Gregory Abbott which seems to be on every 80's compilation CD that I own. I must have this song on 20 different CD's. If anything, why not include his other hit, "I Got the Feelin'(It's Over)".
#2 The inclusion of Nu Shooz "I Can't Wait". Yes, I know, it did hit the R&B chart. But to me, it is more of an example of 80's New Wave Dance Music than 80's R&B. There are many, many other obscure 80's R&B songs out there that I wish would have been represented here.
Other than the slim amount of music provided, it is a good CD and the songs here are good.
"THE BEST OF THE 1980'S".......2004-06-07
THIS IS A NICE COMPILATION CD FROM THE 1980'S. I LOVE THIS CD IT CONTAINS: THE SIGNATURE HIT FROM "ORAN JUICE JONES"- THE RAIN, YOUR SMILE, DO ME BABY , TASTY LOVE-FREDDIE JACKSON, I CAN'T WAIT-NU SHOOZ,AND RUMORS-THE TIMEX EL SOCIAL CLUB. I ENJOY THIS ALBUM I LIKE COMPILATION CDS AND THIS IS A VERY NICE ONE I WOULD RECCOMEND THIS ALBUM TO ANYONE WHO LIKES CLASSIC R&B TO PURCHASE THIS ALBUM!!!!
Ol' School party!!!.......2002-02-26
Yes, I'll admit, I was just a young pup when these songs were out, but still, they are the jams. "Shake You Down" by Gregory Abbott, who had to be the only man who ran out of words and sang..."Eeny, meeny, miney, mo...Come on girl, Let's rock the show."!!!! Melissa Morgan does a nice cover of Prince's "Do Me, Baby". Who could forget Nu Shooz's, "I Can't Wait"? Anndddd the best dis, this-relationship-is-over-so you-better-kick-rocks-song, would have to be "The Rain," by the Juice himself. Everyone remembers him telling that girl that his "first impulse was to run up on you and do a Rambo..." and "this is my world, you're just a squirrel trying to get a nut." This album has all the ol' school classics. This album is perfect if you want to just chill and reminisce on all the fun times of the good ole days.

Album Description
The world's number one chart researcher, Joel Whitburn, selected the recordings for this collection. Joel is the author of the Record Research books which chronicle the artists and the records that hit Billboard's music charts. He hand picked each of the songs in this series according to chart performance and licensing availability. Sounding exactly as they did when first released, these classic recordings have been digitally remastered from original tape sources.
Customer Reviews:
1980: The 80's are off to a slow start........2002-08-09
NOTES: Rhino's Billboard Top Hits series features ten popular songs from a given year. They may not be the exact biggest hits of the year (due to licensing restrictions from some major artists, etc.) but, more or less, provide an accurate snapshot of the year in pop music.
THIS REVIEW IS FOR 1980:
In many ways 1980 was considered to be a dull time for pop music. It was before MTV exploded (which is what the 80's is often associated with) but after all the '70s phenomenons (Disco, early heavy metal, etc.) had faded. That being said, there's still a few good songs.
1. "Call Me" Blondie -- Kicking off with the semi new wave inspired disco rocker, this gives a good indication of what the 80's would sound like. One of the stronger songs.
2. "Fame" Irene Cara -- Although best known for the super catchy dance-pop single "Flashdance/What A Feeling" three years later, this was her other, lesser known hit. It borrows more heavily from the 70's disco sound.
3. "Working My Way Back to You" Spinners -- Another song that somewhat bridges the gap between 70's and 80's pop, in the form of an uptempo R&B based love song.
4. "Little Jeanie" Elton John -- This is a calm, yet melodic pop styled love song, and one of Elton's stronger hits. Also, one of the few that his usual songwriter Bernie Taupin did not write.
5. "Funkytown" Lipps Inc. -- Probably the catchiest (yet strangest) song to basically only feature one lyric. Heavily electronic sounding disco hit.
7. "He's So Shy" Pointer Sisters -- This is another uptempo song paying tribute to the recent 70's sound, yet laying down the groundwork for what fun and happy pop would sound like in the decade to come.
You might notice I left the other four songs blank. I rarely do this is reviews now, but I sold this volume a few years ago, and I don't remember having much desire to hear them again.
In any event, (6) "Upside Down" from Diana Ross; and (8) "Please Don't Go" from KC and the Sunshine Band are leftover disco numbers that hardly packed a punch.
On the other hand, "Do That to Me One More Time" from Captain & Tenielle, and "Take Your Time (Do it Right)" from the SOS Band (9 and 10) were formulatic and stale pop ballads that failed to make much of an impact.
In short: Although this had six strong songs listed above, the combination of the four clunkers, as well as not enough variety really sink the quality down. One thing present in every other volume of the 80's (except maybe 1987) is the presence of a few good rockers. "Hit Me With Your Best Shot", "What I Like About You" or "Brass in Pocket" would've been very welcome to break up the mostly slow monotony.
Even some more typical sounding music was missing. I'm surprised Christopher Cross - who had his 5X Grammy-winning album this year - didn't have any songs included. "Ride Like the Wind" and "Sailing" were both huge hits, and even though they were more akin to the other pop and ballads here, they were far superior IMHO.
1980.......2002-07-29
This shows why MTV came into being. This is the cheesiest music you will ever hear and why Disco died in the first place. Please don't buy this. The '70s disco era was the worst in the century and really shows it on this collection of billboard hits.

1982: Heading more in a rock/MTV direction........2002-08-09
NOTES: Rhino's Billboard Top Hits series features ten popular songs from a given year. They may not be the exact biggest hits of the year (due to licensing restrictions from some major artists, etc.) but, more or less, provide an accurate snapshot of the year in pop music.
THIS REVIEW IS FOR 1982:
1982 and to a lesser extent '83 were probably the most varied musical years of the '80s simply because we were now in the MTV era of visual bands, but still retained a tiny bit of the past. This particular series again improves on the previous one, featuring much more on the rock side.
1. "Harden My Heart" Quarterflash -- The opener was also their biggest hit, featuring an immediately memorable sax solo as well as confident "I'm gonna get over you"-type lyrics set to a pop/rock beat.
2. "Rosanna" Toto -- The lite arena rock band's first major hit (after 1978's "Hold the Line") mines a similar territory, in the form of an uptempo, rocking love song, only with more synths and keyboards.
3. "Eye in the Sky" Alan Parsons Project -- One of the first songs from the progressive rockers to foray into pop. With its melodic and slightly hypnotic mid tempo sound, I'd call it classic rock lite. At first, I thought it was a love song, but upon closer listen, appears to be about big brother.
4. "Gloria" Laura Branigan -- Her debut (and biggest) hit (although I slightly prefer later hits like "Self Control"). An impossibly catchy dance tune with background guitar and synths about a woman who appears to be on the run. If disco had gone into the 80's, it would most likely sound like this.
5. "Who Can it Be Now" Men at Work -- Yet another breakout hit (I'm seeing a theme here, LOL) from the Aussies. A somewhat Police-esque, unique new wave rocker, about mental illness (although that's disguised by its fun, happy sound).
6. "Open Arms" Journey -- This is not only the premiere arena rock band's biggest hit, but one of the defining power ballad love songs of all time with its yearing sound.
7. "Don't Talk to Strangers" Rick Springfield -- Though this mid tempo keyboard pop/rock song isn't nearly as well-known as "Jessie's Girl" (from the previous year), I actually think it's just as good. The relationship theme comes into play again.
8. "Maneater" Hall & Oates -- Another one of the duo's biggest and best hits, with the semi Motown inspired pop/rocking dance beat.
9. "Up Where we Belong" Joe Cocker & Jennifer Warnes -- This theatrical and touching duet pop ballad is a definite throwback to the singer-songwriter era, but still is a beautiful song and fits in nicely.
10. "Centerfold" J. Geils Band -- There could hardly be a better way to close the album than with the bluesy band's party rock tribute to, err, centerfolds, which is pop and hard rock based at the same time.
Overall: Even though the majority of these songs are easily available elsewhere, it's a good a place as any to start if you're just building an 80's collection, especially since it gives a better sampling of different styles than many other years.
Since there were so many great songs to come out of '82, it's hard to pinpoint any glaring ommissions, but "Hard to Say I'm Sorry," "Jack & Diane," "Ebony & Ivory," "White Wedding" and "Somebody's Baby" all come to mind.
Top 40 radio's last "hurrah"........2001-07-08
I consider 1982 to be the last year of real honest to goodness Top 40 radio. Once we began to slink into the middle of the decade, the quality of your average pop single seemed to begin to slip. This is only an opinion but I think if you'll compare 1981 to 1987 you'll see what I mean. Once we got to the point where half the songs played on the radio belonged to the same "superstar" artists over and over and over (Steve Winwood, Lionel Richie, Phil Collins, Whitney Houston) it was just so boring to listen to a top 40 station. The diversity was gone and so was the life that pop music had possessed since the early 1960s. I will admit that I think things started to improve again around 89-90 but since that time, radio station program directors are so strict in their respective formats that you have to keep punching the dial from one station to another to hear any kind of variety. But variety still has its' last gasping breaths on this CD which features some of the more popular singles of 1982. Toto, Alan Parsons, Laura Branigan and Men At Work have the highlights.
'82 Revisited.......2000-07-11
This is an average collection of songs from '82. "Centerfold" by the J. Geils Band is a classic and is welcome on any album. Songs like "Gloria", "Harden My Heart" & "Eye In The Sky" are nice additions as they are good songs and you'd never want to purchase complete Laura Branigan, Quarterflash or Alan Parsons to get them. "Maneater" is not one of Hall & Oates better efforts and "Up Where We Belong" is still sappy as ever.

Customer Reviews:
Great selection for representing '81!.......2004-01-07
I bought this album for "Bette Davis Eyes" and didn't really pay attention to what else was on it when I purchased it. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that the whole collection is great! I was not around in '81 but with music like this I wish I was. Anyone else 21 or younger ought to check out this CD for a great introduction to 80s variety! My favorites are "The One That You Love", "The Tide is High" and "9 to 5".
I will never forget my big tough brother-in-law belting every word to "9 to 5" as my sister and I watched in laughter. Buy this CD if not to get a great introduction to '81, then to laugh at the ones who know all the words! It's worth it either way!
1981: The crossroads of pop........2002-08-09
NOTES: Rhino's Billboard Top Hits series features ten popular songs from a given year. They may not be the exact biggest hits of the year (due to licensing restrictions from some major artists, etc.) but, more or less, provide an accurate snapshot of the year in pop music.
THIS REVIEW IS FOR 1981:
This was the year MTV was officialy launched. Despite it not getting big for a couple more years, this is where the 80's started to gain their own sound, though it still retained quite a few traces of 70's pop. Singer-songwriters, pop ballads, country crossovers, and (so-called) corporate rock, as well as the emerging new wave were the most popular styles of the day.
1. "Bette Davis Eyes" Kim Carnes -- The series gets going with one of the signature songs of the decade; combining a steady, mid tempo synth line over what sounds like a slowed-down pop/disco beat.
2. "Jessie's Girl" Rick Springfield -- The then co-star of General Hospital launched his music career with this power pop/rocker. Despite all the bashing he might get for his teen idol status, the song rocks, similar to what The Romantics or Loverboy might do.
3. "The One You Love" Air Supply -- This is one of the few clunkers here. Not that it's not a very heartfelt pop ballad, but it feels too dramatcially sad and not musical or melodic enough to be interesting.
4. "Tide is High" Blondie -- This mid tempo, slight new wavish ballad slightly recalls the girl group sound of the 60's is one of the strongest (and last) hits of her career.
5. "Physical" Olivia Newton-John -- One of the sillier tunes on here. This dancable, synth pop number is just about as far as you could get from the sound of her early soft country ballads, and was (appropriately enough) used as an aerobics anthem at the time.
6. "9 to 5" Dolly Parton -- Upbeat pop and another more novelty-type song from the usual country singer, and also the hit to the funny office worker's comedy of the same name (which Parton herself starred in).
7. "Queen of Hearts" Juice Newton -- The third song in a row that either is from a country singer or has some roots in that sound. Although it may seem like a little too much at once, this is far superior and manages to combine a (then) current country sound with fun pop/rock.
8. "Kiss on My List" Hall & Oates -- The hitmaking duo of the 80's gives us one of their strongest songs with this extremely catchy pop/rocker that commonly gets mistaken for an uptempo love song (even if it does somewhat sound like one).
9. "Being With You" Smokey Robinson -- The soul master gives us a more old-time, slightly uptempo pop/soul ballad with a relaxing background sax.
10. "Celebration" Kool & the Gang -- The second incarnation of the band has them moving far from their funk. R & B roots for their first in a string of 80's hits - with this happy pop tune that gets played at just about every party or wedding to this day.
Although this collection still isn't perfect (no year of the 80's can possibly be summed up with just ten songs), but it's a definite improvement over the 1980 series, accurately presenting the exciting changing trends in music at the time. "The One You Love" and "9 to 5" are the only two I could've done without.
As for missing songs: Foreigner was big that year, so I would've picked either "Waiting For a Girl Like You" or "Urgent." Pop ballads, like "Arthur's Theme" and "Endless Love" as well as funk/pop, such as "Super Freak" would've all been welcome over the two mentioned above.
Great tunes! Great sound!.......2001-07-08
Rhino has remastered 10 classic pop singles from one of pop radio's last great years. Before radio splintered into half a dozen different (but very strict) formats, the top 40 stations of the time played whatever their listeners wanted to hear, be it pop, rock, R&B or country. This disc is a great cross section of the glory that was Top 40 radio during Reagan's first term of office. Kim Carnes had the record of the year and it still sounds great today. Rick Springfield started his comeback and Air Supply had yet to grow stale. Smokey had possibly his all time greatest solo hit this year. Dolly Parton sang a great song that topped both country and pop lists. Blondie continued to show their diversity. Hall and Oates were at the top of their game. Olivia Newton-John plateaued in popularity. Juice Newton came roaring back with a string of hits. Kool & The Gang released the party anthem of the century. Not bad for a year that is generally regarded as "bland" for being post-punk and pre-new wave.
Great CD!!!!!.......1999-05-07
If you like 80's music and want to really move to these songs buy this one its great!
THIS IS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF 80's MUSIC.......1999-04-27
I think that if you like the 80's kind of music you'll love this c

Easy listening for love.......2006-11-10
This is another pretty good cd for romance. I have enjoyed listening to the mixture of music on it. It is a nice one to cuddle up with.
An Excellent CD.......2005-08-27
If you enjoy this type of music, this is an excellent CD. The sound recording is excellent. All of these cuts appear to be the originally released recordings except one glaring exception. The Righteous Brothers' tune, "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling" is a 1991 remake and not the original. It is a mediocre substitute, at best. I really wonder why they did that!
Other than this shortcoming, this is a good choice if, again, you like this type of music.
Maybe even 5 stars.......2005-04-03
I have now retracted an earlier negative review. I have played it since and enjoyed it.
I was overly critical. I do play it and enjoy it.
(ONE AND ONLY LOVE ALBUM) REALLY DOES BLOW THIS ONE AWAY THOUGH AND I PLAY IT ALL THE TIME (100 STARS).

Customer Reviews:
Don't Buy For the Yes Track.......2005-06-07
This a a good selection and, as always with Billboard, the fidelity is first rate.
But don't buy for the Yes track "Owner of a Lonely Heart." Despite the fact that the CD makes the boastful claim that each track is "Sounding exactly as it did when first released," on "Lonely Heart" the crucial upbeat explosion of an ending--the strongest part of the whole track--is cut, entirely, in favor of a boring slow fade of the song's chorus. Since I never owned the track, my knowledge of it is 100% radio based, showing that Billboard is, shall we say, shading the truth a bit in its claims. In addition to on the original Yes album "90125," you can also find the complete version of the track on Vh1's "The Big 80s: Arena Rock," along with a few other interesting tracks.
But for the other tracks (back to the Billboard 84 CD), I don't hear any problems.
Billboard puts out a good product overall, I also recommend the 1979 disco CD if you like that stuff.
1984 is the best in the series.......2002-08-09
In many ways 1984 was the perfect year. All kinds of pop music were acceptable. Being flashy was cool and still had a few years to grow old, as did Hair Metal (which I still love). I actually think a box set of just '84 hits would do it better justice.
These collections don't have alot of Hard Rock, so Yes' "Owner of A Lonely Heart" is welcome, but it's in a slightly shorter version. Sure it's total pop, but it's harder than most similar stuff. Punk/New Wavers the Romantics mellow out a little with the still rocking "Talking In Your Sleep." Ray Parker's "Ghostbusters" theme was an instance where both the song and the movie were excellent. Denise Williams was a one hit wonder whose infectious dance hit "Let's Hear it for the Boy" can be found here, as well as on the "Footloose" soundtrack. The Pointer Sisters' "Jump for My Love" is close in style. The 3rd female slot here is Tina Turner with her comeback. The somewhat serious "What's love Got to do With It" is another great song. Billy Ocean also has his first hit with the tropical "Caribbean Queen" in a much edited version. The Thompson Twins "Hold Me Now" is a slower pop hit, this album is worth it just for that song.
One nice thing is 2 bands I usually hate have the one song I do like on here. The than seemingly straight George Michael with Wham performed "Wake Me up Before you Go-Go." I feel ridiculous for ever liking it, so it's nice to have it without going through the embarrassment of buying a Wham album. The same can be said for Culture Club's "Karma Chameleon." One of those songs you just kind of sing without even wanting to.
All in all, there's a few missing artists (Cyndi Lauper, Van Halen, Huey Lewis, Springsteen, etc) but what IS here is worth it!
An all around great 80's album!.......2001-05-03
To me, 80's rock is the best music in the world. Billboard Top Hits: 1984 is the third Billboard Top Hits album that I've bought. I also have the 1983 and the 1985 albums and I rank this one second right behind the BTH: 1985 one.
This album has it all! It has upbeat rockers ("Owner of A Lonely Heart"), good ballads ("Hold Me Now"), and some songs that are downright catchy ("Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go"). If you like rock 'n roll from the 80's, I definitely recommend picking up this gem.
great CD....but where is Cyndi Lauper???.......2000-12-11
I loved all of the songs on this CD because they bring back great memories from my childhood. My favorite song of that year was "Lets Hear It For The Boy" by Deniece Williams. I also loved Karma Chameleon back then.
My only problem with this CD is that "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" was not included!
Excellent CD!.......1999-07-13
This CD is a great selection of 1984 hits! If you miss 80s music, this CD is a must-have! Buy it!

Customer Reviews:
A must have box set of high quality songs from a great era.......2006-06-28
Being a BIG fan of 1980s era music, finding this 8 CD box set was really a treasure. Sure, I have a lot of the songs available on the discs in my huge 80s MP3 song collection (16 discs worth so far and still growing), but there are so many others included that I would never have known about or heard since they only aired in the UK. Of course, there are a few other excellent European music artists that do not show up in the set. People like Shakin' Stevens, Don McLean, English Beat and Madness; but they can be mostly found in other collected sets (with the exception of Shakin' Stevens, which is a shame, because his rock n' roll music is excellent). My only complaint about this box collection is the lack of information in concerns to the album each song was taken from and the confusion I have about the two numbers after each title (for example: Adrian Gurvitz: Classic 3,39). Does this mean track 3, Billboard rating 39? I don't know. Other than this minor issue, I highly recommend this CD set for any fan of the 80s music era. You won't be disappointed at the selection and quality.
Something familiar, something new.......2004-07-14
This box set has something for everyone, especially if you want an idea of what was popular in Europe during the Eighties, i.e. names like Sandra, Kajagoogoo, Mel & Kim, Duran Duran, Ultravox... Many, many big hits and a bunch of unknown gems for those who want to explore.
Where are the greatest hits?.......2004-04-13
In a few words, I can explain why I think this collection fails as a "greatest hits of the 80's" album. There is an absence of: Eurythmics, George Michael, Corey Hart, Wham, and just take a look at the track list, because mine goes on. I guess for the bargain price, expectations can't be set that high. You get what you pay for.
A Fantastic Bargain and an Adventure to Boot.......2002-02-04
There are eight discs, each containing 18 tracks, and they want $42? Anyone who does the math will realize that paying under $6 per disc is a great deal, even if you don't know half of the songs. Many of the songs on this collection only became popular in Europe, so U.S. audiences are bound to make a discovery or two. It's well worth the price, especially if you're open to hearing hits from other parts of the world.
Only some of the Greatest Hits of the 80's.......2000-09-26
To be perfectly honest, there are some phenomenal songs on this set. Jermaine Stewart's classic, "We Don't Have to Take Our Clothes Off," is one song that makes the highlight reel for this compilation. Songs by Huey Lewis & the News, Duran Duran, Kim Wilde, et al, earn this box set its two stars. However, a majority of the songs on this compilation are not necessarily worthy of being classified as "greatest hits." Unfortunately, the forgettable songs of the "Me Decade" and price make this set undesirable.

I would pass on this one.......2007-06-03
A decent assortment of song's but not with any length.
The earlier volume's in this series are a better choice. It takes time to find what to like because there are so many different choices.Be patient and read the reviews because we all do and try and reach out to help one another in explaining as best we could . Everyone has their own all time favorite's,lol.
Happy Dancing.

i loved it.......2007-03-16

Definately buying it!!!!.......2006-10-17
I haven't purchased this yet but after seeing the song titles and reading all the great comments, I've made up my mind!! The song titles flashed a wave of GREAT memories for me. I am a native South Floridian and a clubber back when these songs were out and I loved that time.
I won't be able to make the Freestyle Explosion concert in Miami, FL on Oct 20 but buying this collection is the next best thing for me.
I cannot wait to listen to all of it!!!!
For anyone who partied and danced from 1987 to 1994.......2006-09-12
This is by far the best collection out there with freestyle dance music. I have had it for years and it is the only thing that gets me up and running on my treadmill which at 32yrs old, is much needed. It is a great blast from the past - going to the clubs and dancin and partying all night in Philly. Reminds me of the good ole days!! If you get every volume there are only a few songs missing. Most are there and it will really take you back. Highly recommend for the early 90's East Coast clubbers!!
"A DIE HARD FREESTYLE FAN".......2005-01-12
Hello everyone! I grew up with freestyle along with the electonic/dance pop/industrial O' the day genres of music; but freestyle music held a profound, deep corner in my heart. I think it was it's unique sound and pensive lyrics that attracted it to me. Most of the songs dealt with wanting to party your ass off or when both sexes were tryin' to get their love lives staightened out. A characteristic of a freestyle song was that it made you feel emotion and that each song had that uniqueness(I'm talking about the earlier better freestyle/club songs that are showcased on these compilations).
I just turned 32 y/o last Dec. 2004, so let's do the math; that I would've been around 14-15 y/o, when freestyle music was gaining attention(now don't you guys laugh). By the peak of freestyle('round 1991), I was a senior in highschool- 17 y/o,
freestyle was standing on it's last limbs and so be very fortunate that you've stumbled upon a collection of the greatest freestyle dance classics; 'cause after 1992 freestyle officially died! I mean their was freesyle still but just not as good. The times were changing, people's tastes were changing- even with dance music or any type of music for that matter. I could go on & on about this; so I strongly recommend this-plus TOMMYBOY RECORDS took alot of time to put this together. I just noticed a volume #'s 9 and 10 which I plan on purchasing even though I have the majority of these songs in some shape/form or another(c.d. and/or vinyl). O.K. folks, I'm gonna leave you with my top 10 list of freestyle songs(from my personal top 100 list which I'll print out somewhere at a later date). I want to thank all freestyle writers/producers and artists for the impact you left on me and when listen to these songs I'm still moved and motivated to pursue my singing- again THANKS!
