Ike Reilly's charm lies in the fact that he asks for salvation quite frequently, knowing damned well that he has no intention of repenting. The devilish genius behind the pop-sensible major label release, Salesmen and Racists (among a slew of others titles), is back in the saddle with the independent, roadhouse-ready We Belong To The Staggering Evening. Most of the bluesy, lo-fi songs on Staggering Evening abide by the old "sex, drugs, and rock-n-roll" cliché, with the addition of under-age girls, lambasting the government, making light of religion, occasional drug-induced fist fights and trips to Mexico.

If you're prone to getting your panties in a wad when people speak out against your cause, Staggering Evening must be exempt from your scrutiny simply because Reilly unapologetically spares nobody's feelings in the songwriting, including his own. In the saloon sing-along "Valentines Day in Juarez," Reilly knocks himself with the line, "Yesterday I swallowed. Today I choked," while in the campy track "I Hear The Train" he takes a stab at Evangelicals with the line, "Tell your minister he looks real cute in his Lutheran suit." Album highlights include the foot-stomping, opening track "8 More Days Til The 4th Of July", the single "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" and the gritty "It's Hard To Make Love To An American". Simply put, Staggering Evening depicts a world where women are just as risqué as men (if not more so), and where the most debated issues of our time are lightheartedly taken with a grain of salt.

A cool disc that you wish you'd hear in a smokey bar, but probably wont. Great hooks and melodies with a slightly punkish take on Rock and Roll. This cd is way cool enough for older rockers, but I'm afraid the only people who hear about it thru the grapevine are most likely younger hip kids. That's a shame because this disc is a keeper! Yes, Dylan type lyric structures run thru the whole disc, but with a smokey bar-room feel. Great sense of humor concerning drug references. I am now forced to explore these guys past cds cause this one is so damn tastey!

I can find glowing reviews for ANY cd on The 'Zon, but not even a bad one written for Ike Reilly's newest. That's a shame, peoples, because you're not in on it. Don't blame me, I had no idea you were so uncool. This is a classic rock and roll album for the present. Some metion Dylan as a reference, but there's nothing folk about it. It uses bits of most American pop of the last 50 years and kicks it out in a shambling, drunken, druggie, classic punk rock song fest. It pretty much rocks. If you drink, smoke and like rock n' roll, you'll like this a lot. If you jog, meditate and eat vegetables, you'll still probably like it. Get in on it now, and I won't tell your friends about the lameness. Have a nice day.

Thie album has a lot of my favorite songs by Ike & Tina which I heard when they first came out. If you like the original versions of oldies this is a good one.

Finding a good Ike & Tina compilation is no easy task. Not only did they record for multiple record labels, there are a plethora of low-budget and low-quality compilations available. This is one of the decent ones.

PROUD MARY: THE BEST OF IKE & TINA TURNER (from the "Legends of Rock n' Roll Series") consists of 23 songs recorded 1960-1975, in chronological order. Also included are two uncredited ("bonus") tracks; they are two commercials/radio ads for Ike & Tina. Disc packaged in black jewel case; total running time: 73:07. Booklet (in the form of a 6-pannel map-style fold-out sheet) includes a substantial small-font essay by Al Quaaglieri, one b&w photo of Ike & Tina, a photo of an assortment of original Ike & Tina album covers, and track information (including release dates and chart positions). Sound quality ranges from poor (on earlier recordings) to good; volume is low on all tracks.

This compilation seems to cover, with the exception of their Blue Thumb recordings, most of their career. Ike & Tina's labels included Sue, Modern/Kent, Warner Bros./Loma, Minit, Atlantic/Pompeii, Liberty, and United Artists. I do wish it included "Shake a Tail Feather".

The vocals of this Tina Turner are closer to that of LaVern Baker, Etta James, Lyn Collins, or Janis Joplin than to the pop/rock singer she would later become. She shouts and screams, often singing in a strained, almost forced-sounding, voice.

Notes: The version of "River Deep, Mountain High" is not the Phil Spector version; the version included is from the "Nutbush City Limits" LP. The voice heard on "It's Gonna Work Out Fine" and addressed as "Ikey" is not Ike Turner; it is Mickey of studio team Mickey & Sylvia. Ike's voice is heard on "Baby-Get It On", where he sings co-lead vocals. It is also interesting that the essayist mentions several times that the Ike & Tina story "would make a great movie" - this was a couple years before the 1993 bio-pic "What's Love Got to Do With It" was released.

First the sound quality is poor - I had my stereo turned almost up to max and it was just loud enuf to hear.

Then there are the uncredited/unlisted "bonus tracks" - they are comercials/radio ads for Ike & Tina.

The version of "River Deep, Mountain High" is not the Phil Spector version.

Incredible!.......2005-11-19

A friend of mine recommended Cris Williamson and played Waterfall for me. I remembered the song vaguely from college and when I picked up the album I was hooked. But my true appreciation for this album was at a major turning point in my life while waiting for surgery in Vibraham hospital in Bangkok Thailand. I listened to to the songs that had become, by that time, old friends, but they took on new meaning. Song of the Soul just perfectly expressed so much about the world. It led me to such acceptance of myself and forgiveness for others. In the middle of Dream Child the nurses arrived to take me for my SRS. Everything turned out wonderfully, but that morning changed me so much in how I look at the world. I still can't listen to the album without the same profound thoughts coming to my mind. I'm deeply indebted.

Like a Comfortable Friend.......2003-01-29

Like an old friend, this album goes with me wherever I go. It's just one of those albums.

Cris Williamson has a low folk voice -- smooth as satin, and yet she can make it "break" at just the right moment of expressiveness. I love the way she sings. She has one of those voices that makes it obvious ... she was born to sing.

The songs are comfortable ballads with a folk edginess, meaning NO watered down lyrics. The songs feel easy and warm, but the lyrics are clear and never dull.

The opening number, WATERFALL, will have you singing along in about three listens. It's a song about feeling good, about being kind, and about relaxing - letting go.

WILD THINGS is a lush ballad that leaves no doubt - this woman can SING like crazy.

And the album as a whole just rings "keeper" from the very first listen. It quickly becomes a staple in your music collection.

I had this album in the 80's given to me by a male friend, my daughters loved it and we learnt the words to the songs,recently we began to yearn to hear it again and have been persuing it.

The songs are classic, some will be inspired by their feminist nature but all should be impressed by the lyrics and the emotion in the music.

I was introduced to Chris Williamson's music/women's music appoximately 12 years ago at a retreat and fell in love with it almost instantly. I had never heard any music classified as "women's" prior to that. Chris sings with such feeling...she is truly an inspiration.
I have owned the cassette for approximately 12 years and like it so much I plan to purchase a CD of it. I can honestly say I really like all, but one of the songs.
"Wildthings" is out of this world! My nieces and nephews like it too. They sing along...even the nephew that acts like Mr. Cool! When the tape is over, my nieces ask me to play it again.

Cris is the "gift" to music. She shares her heart and soul in vocal stylings that are easy on the ears, touching to the heart, and life affirming. If you have no other woman's albums...start here...you will be ordering all of her albums, none of which deviate from the superb quiality of this album. Cris is undoubtedly the finest musician never palyed on "pop" radio...if they only knew what they are missing!

Yehudi Menuhin and Stéphane Grapelli together had made some of the most beautiful music ever-recorded. And I believe that this is one of the many successful albums they recorded together. In this recording, both violinists have showed their excellent musicianship and interpretative eloquence as well, making it one of my most cherished CDs from my collection.

These are the main ingredients of a perfectly-made CD for your listening pleasure: mix violins, piano, bass and drums together, combine two terrific violinists, season with the best melodies in the 20s, 30s and 40s from Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, Cole Porter and Rodgers & Hart. Add the musical talents of Nelson Riddle, Max Harris, Martin Taylor, Eddie Tripp, Alan Clare and the rest of the studio musicians. Now all you have to do is to sit back, relax and savor these stunning melodies coming from your CD player. Listen to it in full-volume and fill your music room with the sheer beauty of these classics.

One of my favorite musical instruments is violin. With its four strings, it gives a whole wide range of musical versatility and I simply love the fascinating sound it produces.

My personal highlights are the best tunes from Jerome Kern - "The Way You Look Tonight" (Nelson Riddle arranged this particular track and conducted the Woodwind and Brass section), "A Fine Romance," "Pick Yourself Up," "Why Do I Love You?" and "All The Things You Are."

My choices from Irving Berlin's gems are - "Isn't It A Lovely Day?" featuring the great artistry of Nelson Riddle in arranging and conducting, "Cheek To Cheek" and "I've Got My Love To Keep Me Warm."

The Cole Porter repertoire represented his musical sophistication in "Night And Day," "I Get A Kick Out Of You" and "Just One Of Those Things."

The choice cuts from the talented and creative team of Richard Rodgers and Lorenz Hart are "My Funny Valentine" and "Thou Swell."

Listening to this CD is so delectable and equivalent to having my favorite dessert - be it Tiramisu, New York Cheesecake, Black Forest Cake, Chocolate Soufflé, Créme Brulee, Chocolate Mousse or Chocolate-Coated Strawberries! ;)

With the whole wide world against him,its really wonder Ike Turner is still recording.Not only recording,man kicks with such unexpected fire,passion and snarl that its impossible not to rock along with his music.What was just a curiosity to hear his new album,immediately turned to awe and joy - forget everything else you read or heard and if you can listen with ears open,this album is a BLAST!Althought he started in stone age of rock,there is nothing old fashioned here - production is modern,sound crisp and music excellent.Best of all,Turner (who has never been much of a singer before) somehow turns his big-bad-wolf-with-scars persona into surprisingly expressive voice,he sounds completely believable on each single song and knowing his earlier work,Im glad to hear that particular bluesy sound still alive and so full of life."Caldonia" ia of course tribute to his idol Louis Jordan (Turner paid his hospital bills when he found jordan was down on luck),"Going home tomorrow" a nod to Fats Domino and "Big Fat mama" reminder that blues and country are very much two faces of same coin (as his early recordings show,Turner could play country with the best of them)."A love like yours" is of course old Phil Spector chesnutt and and surprisingly soft spot for Turner who recordeds and performs it often,but there is also "Jesus loves me" where he bleeds and dares to point at his critics:"Point your fingers at me,you should take a look at yourself".Its clearly one of my favourite new albums and every musician I talked to loves it.How strange that he would prove to be more vital and interesting than his superstar ex-wife who for the past 20 years lives basically on charisma,but her music is not as half as fun as this!

BACK TO THE ROCKET 88.......2007-06-27

Yes, Ike Turner was hell on Tina. Yes, he is probably not a guy you want to have a drink with. But, hell you sure can listen to his blues (and earlier with Tina, rhythm and blues) work here. I knew all of Ike and Turner's work at one time back in the days. I saw Ike resurface on Martin Scorseses' blues series on PBS and got interested again after hearing his hot riff of the classic Rocket 88. Here he seems to have captured some of that same energy reworking some of the classics (including his own). Okay, maybe you have to hold your nose about his personal life but lend an ear to this.

This is one of best blues albums I've heard in years. Ike Turner is a true legend, genius and innovator.
I was fortunate to see him live in 2001 at Burnaby Blues Festival in Canada where he was promoting his 2001 release "Here and Now". I must admit that when you see Ike Turner live you know that you are in the presence of one of a kind. His stage presence and intensity is just as remarkable as his guitar and piano skills.

The new album is a MUST own (just as much as "Here and Now"). The sample tracks on Amazon can give you some idea but definitely don't do justice to a full sound and heavy base on this album. When you realize that at 75 Ike was able to produce such high quality product, you wish him another 200 years of music career.

The roughest, hardest, rarest and best of Ike and Tina!.......2004-01-28

This stuff is the perfect compliment to any best of Ike and Tina album. There are no other albums, apart from the album 'Working Together' that are currently available, that give you such a good impression of Ike and Tina.

What we have on here is the wild and funky hard soul stuff, albeit with a touch of psychedelic funk-rock. For me this is what I had hoped that they had recorded. Most tracks I'd heard by them sounded a bit dull, or uninspired compared to Bold Soul Sister and a handful of the tracks on the best ofs.

These tracks sound pretty rough, even for the time, and would dfinitely benefit from remastering, to bring out the brightness of the drums and tighten the bass. But then again that garage band sound is part of the charm. I mean, Tinas voice is at least as rough as the recordings!

Best track on here is, for me, The Game Of Love. I wish that heavy soul sound had been pursued a bit more. Theres shades of Ann Peebles or Ann Sexton on it.

Quite a bit of over eager 'fozzie bear' style guitar (Wacka Wacka!) but Ike's playing is great, punctuated with some firey R and B/Blues style licks.

All in all, my favourite recordings by the band and in some ways the most cohesive re-release yet by Ike and Tina.

Dont be put off by the fact that Tina's 80's to recent output is so sterile, or the fact that Tina is so famous. This is the absolute antithesis of that sound. If you want hard soul, raw funk and rocking tunes then this is where to start!

The Best of the Forgotten Classics.......2002-10-23

This compilation has been a long time coming. Many of these Ike and Tina Turner songs have never seen the light of day on CD. It's about time. Gems like "The Chopper", "Up on the Roof" and "Doin It" should not be relegated to sitting in the bins of used LP stores. These songs deserve to be heard. Ike and Tina Turner have created a number of classic records and these songs sit comfortably among their best.

The disc opens with the ever funky "Funkier Than a Mosquitas Tweeter" which was penned by Tina's sister Alline. Was she talking about Ike? :) Tina's wildly uplifting reading of the track blows Nina Simone's bastardized rendition out of the water. The disc continues on with funk and soul drenched songs such as "What You Don't See" and "Baby, What You Want Me To Do" which would make Sly Stone proud. Soul, always a component of every Turner record turns up more predominately on cuts such as "Game of Love", "Up On the Roof (from the 'Let Me Touch Your Mind' LP) and "Whole Lotta Love" which was an R&B hit for Tina alone in 1975. And though many think Ike to be the sole svengali and mastermind behind the revue, Tina also made her writing attempts. You would be remiss to neglect to mention "Nutbush City Limits" (not on the disc), but she had other fine moments. "The Chopper" sits right alongside 'Nutbush' and other Tina tunes such as 'Sexy Ida' and 'Help Him'. The showstopper of this disc, however, is the addition of a sexy, soulful song from the Turner's 1969 LP 'Come Together' entitled, "Doin' It". Tina's raunchiness is restrained, but her sexual energy explodes over the track as Ike and company pander to her every desire to "change the groove". This is Aaliyah's "Rock the Boat" 32 years earlier.

In all, this disc has been over 26 years in the making. It's a pleasure to know that these classics are now available to hear without the cracks, pops and hisses of vinyl. The original 'Bold Soul Sister' and her erstwhile husband were indeed as funky as the title of this album suggests.

Phil Spector Brings The Best Out Of Ike and Tina.......2002-07-12

I'll be honest. The only reason I like this album is because of Phil Spector's contributions. I happen to think that Tina Turner is somewhat overrated, and I'll also point out that, "River Deep," is the only appearance she makes in my most impressive music collection. This album is Phil Spector's moment of glory. The Wall Of Sound he creates on here sounds as if it's about to explode through the headphones. He went for it all on this one, and although it was a bomb in the US commercially, it stands as one of the most successful pieces of pop art to come out of the 60s (and that's sayin' a lot).

Other reviews will tell you how excellent this album is. I just want everyone to realise that the tracks were produced by Ike Turner, EXCEPT 1, 3, 6, 8 and 10 (produced by Phil Spector). 'Hold On Baby' is a good bit of Turner-Spector frenzy, and has only ever been issued on this album.

This album is one of the most influential albums of all time and is a highlight of Phil Spector's career. A few of these songs: I Idolize You, A Fool In Love and It's Gonna Work Out Fine were hits when they were signed to the Sue label and the original versions are on the "Proud Mary: The Best of Ike & Tina Turner" compilation on EMI which is THE essential compilation of their hits spanning their entire career but with nothing from this album although that compilation does have an inferior remake of the title song from this album. The title track of course is the most essential track of the album but the rest of the album is as well produced as this album. I actually have another CD pressing of this album that features this album in stereo plus "Sonny Charles & The Checkmates, Ltd.'s "Love Is All We Have To Give" on CD in stereo, featuring "Black Pearl" as a Spanish import The Sonny Charles album is not available on CD otherwise. As mentioned in another review, all songs from this album that are on the Back To Mono boxed set are in mono, the stereo versions are great while I'll add that another mono copy of the title song is on Tina's "Simply The Best" compilation from 1989 on Capitol with her 1980's comeback hits.

the first track is awsome. but there r other songs on the album, of very good quality. I'm thinking about "Save the last dance for me", especially, but also about "A love like urs"
Save the last dance it's full of emotion, of passion, of feelings. All this comes through due to Tina's ***** vocals.
I think this whole album is her best art creation so far.
If the title track is indeed most crafted song, possibly the best on the album, i'd like to stress "save the last dance" too, because it's a true song, it expresses pure feeling, nothing from the overwhelmed intensity of the heart is missed, everything is recreated with an almost perfect mastery.
listening to it one senses the hardwork, but it's all the more impressive, because it's trying to reach for the truth and get it out.
river deep mountain high is beyond fashion, while save the last dance for me is under its influence. but it's in a way reflected back, it's used to create the whole, and that's y i consider it one of tina's masterpieces.
maybe someone should re-release it. it has still a lot to say

Although Cliff Edwards, also known as Ukulele Ike, was one of the most popular entertainers of the 1920s he is almost forgotten today. He was the first performer to do the classic "Singing in the Rain," he debuted Gershwin's "Fascinatin' Rhythm" in 1924, and he acted in over 100 movies. Unfortunately, he received no screen credit for his most famous role--as the voice of Jiminy Cricket in Walt Disney's Pinocchio. His version of "When You Wish Upon a Star" is still the definitive version of that classic song. Cliff Edwards deserves to be remembered, and a good place to rediscover him is on Singing in the Rain, a collection of songs from the 1910s, '20s, and '30s recorded for radio in the early '40s. He accompanies his jazzy vocals with his virtuoso ukulele playing. Cliff at his Best.......2007-03-09

Before he was "Jiminy Cricket", Cliff was a great jazz skat singer. These recordings capture his sense of rhythm, range and inventiveness. His range is amazing. He can go from baritone to counter tenor effortlessly.

I've often thought that the Disney drawings of Jiminy Cricket were intentionally made to look like Cliff.

Wow! Ever since I've watched a few Cliff Edwards movies, I've gotten addicted to his voice. The song selection on this CD is good, and is really a great tribute to him. Still, I was dissapointed to not find the song Night Owl on it. I thought it was really a catchy tune and I would have loved it to be on this CD. It was a song from a musical called Take a Chance, with him(Cliff Edwards), James Dunn, Lillian Roth, June Knight, and Charles(Buddy)Rogers. It's a good movie other than Pinocchio of Edwards's.

Cliff Edwards: A Great Talent!!!.......2005-06-05

Cliff Edwards was a big star in the 20s and 30s. No, he wasn't a handsome crooner and he didn't enter into the Swing movement. His career as a successful singer was too brief. But just listen to this wonderful album from ASV/Living Era. I was captivated by the first song! I was totally entranced listening to his excellent voice and unique style of singing. He can be lighthearted on songs like "Who Takes Care of the Caretaker's Daughter?" but he can also put his heart into songs such as "I Can't Give You Anything But Love". Today people think Gene Kelly was the originator of "Singin" In the Rain" but just listen to Cliff sing it! It was his song and a momumental hit for him. He introduced the song in "Hollywood Revue of 1929", an MGM film that was a box office hit. Cliff Edwards had a knack for comedy, after all, he knew he was not the type women would swoon over, but he was a very superb musician and this CD is evidence of his diverse talent. I love this album and I am so glad I have it in my collection of music from the 20s and 30s. Why Cliff isn't given the credit due to him as a innovative musician is a mystery. If you like Jazz from this era, this CD is for you!!! I cannot recommend it highly enough. The notes that Cliff could reach are amazing. He transformed every song he recorded into his own. That shows true artistry. If anyone knows who he is, they know him for being the voice of Jiminy Cricket which he was excellent at but he left behind these superb recordings. From songs with a touch of humour to heart-felt songs all done so very, very well. This CD is seventy-three minutes of great music from a truly gifted musician. Buy it!!! You won't regret it. You will be captivated by his music. I hestitated but I remembered his great performance in "Hollywood Revue of 1929" of "Singing In the Rain". I have come to appreciate and treasure Cliff Edwards' talent so much more from this superb collection of his recordings. I believe that you will too. I would give it six stars if I could but it deserves five stars. Don't hesitate and treat yourself to a talented artist whom you will thoroughly enjoy.

Cliff Edwards, what a talent! Nobody knows who he is anymore, but his music is a segement or original Americana, just listen to this CD and you'll be feeling great. It's a real pleasure to listen to music so stripped down yet lyrical nevertheless. And there are 32 great tracks on this CD (even though they run a couple of minutes each, each one is a gem)! I would love to see a movie made about Cliff's life someday, a true American tragedy. This recording was made from a radio transcription in 1943, long after Cliff had initially made his mark. He was singing "scat' back in the 20's before that style of singing even had a name. And don't forget that he is the voice of Jiminy Cricket ("When You Wish Upon A Star")!

The Saddest Story.......2005-03-04

Wait till you hear the passion and the wit with which Cliff sings the famous Billy Rose number, "The Night Is Young (And You're So Beautiful." I love the optimism and the subtlety of the lyrics, "When the lady is kissable, and the evening is cool, any dream is permissable--in the heart of a fool." Elsewhere the track uses the word "overamorous"--when was the last time you heard that in a song lyric?

Cliff was born in Hannibal, Missouri and had the class to brag that he hailed from the same burg as none other than Tom Sawyer. Like Tom Sawyer, he was a boy at heart. Even his trademark uke had a boyish charm to it, and he could wield it like nobody's business. It is said that at the top of his popularity, music stores were selling ukeleles at a rate of 250 a week, a feat unmatched ever since.

This LP, made in the 40s while Cliff's voice had attained a golden lustre, shows him at his best. It's simple, and unadorned, but you will surely get a tear in your eye when you hear him whisper:

"Like a bolt out of the blue, fate steps in to see you through/
When you wish upon a star, your dreams come true."

It didn't happen for Cliff Edwards, but it can still happen to you.

Faithful x 3.......2006-10-31

Having been one of the "faithful" for only 5 years or so, each new venture brings back the crispness and vibrance of when I first heard the band. 'Junkie Faithful' is the best example of Ike's wit, humor and artistry to date. "22 Hours.." and "The Mixture" are classics already. Buy the album and go see the band and don't be surprised if you become one of the faithful too.

Viagra for the brain?.......2006-07-05

Having practiced medicine for 21 years I unfortunately suffer from left brain atrophy. Despondent and resigned to a one dimensional existence I happened to stumble across the Ike Reilly Assassination. Stimulating rifs, clever thought provoking lyrics, a James Dean personna and an outstanding band have generated activity in previously dormant synapses and enhanced blood flow to ischemic neurons. Ike is sort of like Viagra for the cerebral cortex. Just as a diabetic requires insulin for sustenance, I have to listen to Ike occassionally to make myself whole.

Now - just so you don't think that Ike and his assassins are some geriatric fix for this old fart, my two daughters aged 16 and 19 are fighting over who gets to borrow Junkie Faithful.

And speaking of Junkie Faithful - it's a wonderful CD - not one bad cut. Versatility rules and the band has never sounded better.

"22 hours of darkness" is a haunting song about self examination and depression and blatantly asks "do you think that this is just your life".

"The Mixture" is a masterful mixture of Ike Reilly lyrics. How can you describe this song? You can't. You just have to listen.

"God and Money" starts out with an almost psychedelic "strawberry fields" flavor and asks some critical questions. I don't know if I completely understand exactly what Ike is saying but it's all right because I'm "living a good life".

"Kara Dean" is a jaunty, clever tune which talks about "wiggling in the rain" and later tells of Ike checking out his neighbors wife while she's bending down to pull out weeds. Very catchy - one of those numbers that you end up humming for days.

"Farm Girl" is funny. Something happens at the grain elevator at the co-op then after five times we hear that the farm girl somehow has grass in her teeth.

"Suffer for the Trust" is a great song. Provocative lyrics! My wife and kids spent about half an hour discussing the meaning of the song. Listen and tell me exactly what the "face on the monument pays me a compliment" means.

"Edge of the Universe Cafe" almost sounds like an Irish folk song. Another solid song which showcases Ike's lyrical genius.

"Heroin" describes the evil of this poison in a way that Lou Reed and Neil Young never could. I love the guitar work - simple but beautiful.

"What a Day" talks of the day that "we buried my mother". Everyone said that she "looked pretty and peaceful" so Ike concludes that that means "I guess that means she's better off dead". Having just come back from my mother in law's funeral I agree with Ike - "what a day, what a day, what a day".

"I Will Let You Down" is witty and Dylanesque. Ike describes coming home late to his sleeping lady. While drunk he mumbles "Wake up pretty baby, we're gonna party hard tonight. I heard about your birthday so I brought you home a clown."

"Devil's Valentine" is short and melodic. Lovely.

"Everything is Gonna Be Alright" intros with Ike's harmonica with shades of Neil Young. It changes course with a melodic "everything is gonna be alright" then redirects.
This is a great song!! My favorite cut on the CD. This can stand up to anything I've heard in the past ten years.

In closing, I'd like to say that as good as the CD is, Ike shines even more in concert. My daughter, Hannah and I were lucky enough to see the band in North Carolina and it proved to be a nice father daughter bonding experience. After the concert I asked Hannah what she thought - she replied, "Dad, he is REALLY COOL!"

A Must Buy!.......2006-04-03

Ike Reilly has a very refreshing sound and this CD is my favorite of all of the 3 CD's I own of his. I just heard about him on February 10th and went to see his show that night. He played most of this CD and it was great. Not too often do I see a band that I've never heard of and love the music as much as I did Ike Reilly and the Assassination. I bought this CD at the show and his other 2 also. They've been part of my regular rotation since then. Ike Reilly is, fortunately for music lovers and unfortunately for the band, a well kept secret which will be getting out soon. The entire CD is, IMO, strong. There aren't really any throw-away tracks on it. Do yourself (and the band) a favor and get this CD. Then, watch for the band to come to your town. Yeah, I recommend his other two CD's too. BTW, I own probably over 800 CD's (and 700 vinyl records) and have seen hundreds of bands in concert, so it's not as if I just fell off he turnip truck when it comes to music.

Another Great One.......2006-01-07

Not too many people know about the Ike Reilly Assassination, those people are missing out. Junkie Faithful marks a departure from the loud, crazy rockers of Sparkle in the Finish and Salesmen and Racists, but the music on this disc is no less amazing. Reilly and company continue to pay their dues and create great music. If they remain a secret pleasure, you won't hear me complaining.
