Thanks to a fortuitous intersection of talent and fate, 22-year-old Josh Groban hasn't finished his senior year in performing arts school but has already released his sophomore effort on a major major label. Fans of the young vocal phenom's debut will find much to enthrall them here, even if it nudges the singer closer to the center of producer/mentor David Foster's MOR pop sensibilities. Eschewing much of its predecessor's more overt classic-lite pretensions and pop-rock covers for a slate of dramatic, Eurocentric ballads that serve as a showcase for the singer's inviting baritone, Groban shrewdly positions himself as the American alternative to the Bocelli-Watson crossover axis. "Caruso" may find the singer falling short of its operatic inspiration, but "Oceano" and "My Confession" quickly showcase his true dramatic range (which seems to all but yearn for a bona fide Broadway musical challenge), while a vocal take of Bacalov's graceful "Il Postino" theme uses classical virtuoso Joshua Bell's violin flourishes to good effect. To his credit, Groban displays some promising efforts at songwriting collaboration on the bittersweet "Per Te" and "Remember When It Rains," while the ambient/ethnic soundscape of Deep Forest's "Never Let Go" offers a teasing alternative to the record's otherwise melodramatic production formula. Groban has found commercial triumph via Foster's mentoring, but there remains a nagging sense here that he hasn't truly pushed himself as an artist--yet. --Jerry McCulley

A Heavenly Voice.......2007-07-31
I had never heard of Josh Groban until one night I was looking at the
PBS series, "Distant Shores" with Peter Davison and this backgroun music came up. I had to search for the voice and the composer. It took me awhile to find Josh Groban. I am very old(veery!), studied music for years and he has one of the most beautiful voices I have ever heard.
From such a young man it seems unbelievable. He reminds me of beautiful voices of yesteryear- a pleasure to remember.
Beautiful Soul.......2007-07-13
Josh Groban is such a wonderful and soothing artist. If you are in need of meditative 'deliciousness' buy this album!
Happy listening.......2007-06-27

Album Description
Hayley Westenra's new album Odyssey was always going to be a different proposition to Pure, the record-breaking 2003 collection which marked her international debut. A lot has happened to the young New Zealander over the past two or three years--and those changes are clearly reflected by a record which encapsulates her growth from a budding teenage prodigy into a mature young woman.
Now, at 18, Hayley is ready to show the world how much she has grown up, both as an artist and as an individual. Fans of Pure will be pleasantly surprised by her new album. Her wonderful voice retains its crystal-clear purity, but Westenra's singing is now richer and more rounded than before. Touring the world and singing in some of its greatest concert venues, such as the Sydney Opera House, Royal Albert Hall, and Carnegie Hall, has worked wonders for her confidence. Suitably emboldened, she has embraced an even wider range of musical styles including classical, hymns, folk and pop.
"I was happy with Pure at the time, but I've moved on so much," says Hayley. "It's really exciting to have something new out there for people to listen to. I wanted to make a record that represented me as a person. And I think I've improved as a vocalist."
Variety is certainly one of the keywords with Hayley's new album. When she first entered a recording studio in New Zealand as a 12-year-old, Westenra restricted herself to classical pieces and show tunes. Now, in addition to impressive takes on classical works, Hayley uses her new album to perform an inspired cover of Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now" and has arranged and written much of the material. "I like to push myself, and I'm now confident enough to try different things. I have been much more involved behind the scenes with this album--I wanted to put my individual stamp on each song."
With her career stretching out promisingly before her, Hayley is also keen to continue experimenting. She is still primarily a classical crossover artist but she also wants to keep broadening those musical horizons. Three years after her international debut CD, Hayley Westenra is still pure: she exudes pure quality and she remains pure class--but her musical journey continues with her new album Odyssey.
Customer Reviews:
Wonderful melodies.......2007-06-08
This is a wonderful CD with beautiful melodies. Hayley Westenra has a very pure voice and sings right on key. The melodies are very relaxing and the musical settings are well arranged.
Hayley Westenra - Odyssey.......2007-06-08
Pure, crystalline, angelic voice. Gorgeously produced. "Prayer" is stunning. "Both Sides Now" wonderful. The rest is good but not her best song selection. When I first heard this girl on the "Celtic Woman" tour I was totally blown away. None of her CDs will disappoint!
Very soothing.......2007-05-14
Hayley Westenra's Odyssey is a very beautiful CD. If you switch on your walkman and listen to the CD's tracks non-stop, you'll soon feel like you're flying in Heaven. It's very soothing and heavenly. It calms you down, without causing you to feel lonely or sad because you're listening to it in solitary, like other vocal or classical songs do sometimes.
I would definitely recommend it to anyone interested. Quanta Qualia and Ave Maria are my most favourite tracks. Quanta Qualia is pure magic! I really feel as if I'm flying in Heaven when I listen to it.
very good pop singer voice.......2007-05-13
the selections were tasteful and varied. the singer has a very good pop singer voice. i would have liked some voice variation between songs. all were sung in exactly the same style. good singing but without tonal variation the disk tends to be bland. i hope that as she gets more exposure she will vary her voice to make the songs stand out individually instead of letting them blend into one song on the disc. i would rate this 5 stars except for that major fault.
Voice & level head deserve high marks .......2007-04-20
Not only has Hayley Westenra's voice remained "pure", but her good sense and sensibilty has stayed intact when so many similar young performers have gone over the deep end with extreme behavior and disreputable remarks. On this CD Miss Westernra covers a number of songs in her own special style, such as excellent versions of "Prayer", "May It Be" and "Both Sides Now". I hope to hear her renditions of more such tunes, old and new. I would like to hear her sing songs like "Yesterday", "I Still Believe in Love" and All I Know. She has a way with her soaring vocals that never lets the listener down.

Journeyman country outlaw Waylon Jennings might have been nearing the end of his road on this performance, but he had a full tank of gas when he hit the Ryman stage for two nights in January 2000. Although too ill to stand, Jennings is in fine--even exceptional--voice, as he and his Waymore Blues Band, augmented with horns for the first time, cruise through a tight and tough two-hour gig. This 2007 expanded edition of Jennings's final album not only adds eight tracks and a second audio disc, but also throws in a professionally shot DVD remixed in crystal-clear 5.1 surround sound. Guests Travis Tritt, Montgomery Gentry, and John Anderson add cameos, along with Waylon's wife Jessi Colter, who appears on four tracks. But this is Jennings's show, and although the country legend's health was on a downslide from which he would never recover, he sounds inspired and vital throughout this set of hits (and some obscurities). Extra tracks such as Tony Joe White's "Trouble Man" and the Band's "The Weight" are terrific additions, and the disc has now been reconfigured to follow the original sequence. Fans might lament the omission of signature Waylon fare such as "Only Daddy That'll Walk the Line" and "Lonesome, On'ry and Mean" and the inclusion of fluffier pop like "Never Been to Spain," but this remains a moving and exciting live recording. The DVD is an indispensable bonus. It shows Jennings's obvious delight playing with this exceptional 11-piece outfit and their enthusiasm working with a country legend. The package is a fitting final document to one of roots music's most edgy trailblazers and essential listening/viewing for any country fan. --Hal Horowitz
Customer Reviews:
A fitting swan song for a hard-country icon.......2007-08-05
Few performers, in any genre, have had as much sheer charisma as Waylon Jennings, and that comes through loud an clear on this poignant set, recorded live at the Ryman auditorium in January, 2000, when Waylon's health was starting to fade. He's backed by his hand-picked Waymore Blues Band, who put as much heart and soul into the performance as ol' Waylon himself. Waylon, who had to stay in a chair during the show, knew he was on the way out, but he had a great attitude about it, cracking jokes about being "a cripple" and even singing his on gentle epitaph on "Might Be A Good Time." He threw himself fully into each and every song, and graciously shared the limelight with buddies like John Anderson, Travis Tritt and Montgomery Gentry, as well as with his wife, Jessi Colter, who leads on a few tunes and sings some heart-rending duets with Waylon.
This edition expands the original Y2K release into the full concert length -- two CDs worth, plus a concert DVD that covers the same material. The concert film is a mixed blessing: on one hand, in technical terms, it's pretty poorly produced -- great sound quality but the cinematography and editing are both pretty rough. But as a document of Waylon's waning years, it's simply invaluable. You see what his road band was like, how they mixed showmanship and honest emotion, and of course you see Waylon, vigorous and vital, though also clearly wounded and with a real weight on his shoulders. Musically, it's all very solid -- most of the songs are oldies, but none of them are played by rote, and the sincere feeling these folks put into their performances comes through loud and clear. If you're a Waylon fan, you'll wanna check it out. (DJ Joe Sixpack)
Thank you, Legacy!.......2007-07-24
First off, the technical side of things. I have a widescreen 30" Philips HDTV with a Trutech surround sound DVD player and was very impressed with the audio and visual qualities of the DVD. I started listening to the first CD in the car as soon as I bought this release today and it sounded great, too.
As for the content, it is truly amazing how a nearly two hour concert video can be so thoroughly engaging when the main artist never even so much as stands up on stage. For those not in the know, by the time of this concert, Waylon's health confined him to a specially designed chair on-stage. Unlike Johnny Cash, though, Waylon's vocals never diminished and so he still sounds as vibrant as he does in the "Waylon Live" recordings from a quarter century earlier. Sure, there are nitpicks with the set list; being the final concert recording from a music icon, everyone has at least one song they wish he'd included. But then, the funny thing is, the "Waylon Live" recordings occurred before he'd even had most of the hits that came to define him for most listeners.
Finally, for those who bought the original 14-track singular CD release and are wondering if this is worth the upgrade...hell, yes, it is! First off, the packaging is far superior, full of clear photos, unlike the original release's few blurry ones. Secondly, the original release sequencing is far off from the full concert and the previously unreleased material is not fluff; it's great stuff that should have been included earlier. The only gripe I have is that on the original release, Waylon has a conversation with Travis Tritt about making movies with Willie that was pretty entertaining, and that's not included on this release. Still, it's a trade-off I think any fan would make. Unless, like me, you plan on keeping your earlier release, too. ;)

Argentina-born, California-based Gustavo Santaolalla helped shape the rock en Español movement by producing Mexican bands Molotov and Café Tacuba , and Colombian singer Juanes. In the late 1990s he made a switch to soundtracks, working on well-received albums for Amores Perros and The Motorcycle Diaries. His instrumental contributions to Ang Lee's tale of two cowboys in love are acoustic guitar-based and, let's face it, a bit on the sonic-wallpaper side.
The vocal tracks, on the other hand, are uniformly lovely, even if the selection of interpreters falls on the predictable side. Linda Ronstadt, Steve Earle, Willie Nelson, and Mary McBride on the soundtrack to a contemporary Western? What a shock! Still, they're all wonderful and Santaolalla wrote at least a couple of classic-sounding country ballads ("A Love That Will Never Grow Old," sung by Emmylou Harris, and "No One's Gonna Love You Like Me," sung by Mary McBride). And don't miss Teddy Thompson and Rufus Wainwright's sweet cover of Roger Miller's 1964 "King of the Road." --Elisabeth Vincentelli

iPod owners be warned.......2007-08-01
I loved the movie and the music. However, I'm very disappointed to discover that I cannot get the CD to copy to my iPod. This is a pet peeve of mine - I buy the music, I should get to listen to it on whatever device I choose.
Axe Rufus Wainwright, and it would be 5 stars.......2007-06-13
This album is a mixture of the instrumental theme, which is incredibly beautiful and haunting, and some very solid country songs. I was surprised by how good the other songs were (you still have to like country music, though). There are only two songs that I don't like at all, and those are the two by Rufus Wainwright - one a cover of "King of the Road" (originally by Roger Miller). They are great demonstrations of him at his most nasal and whiny. It sounds like he is a French guy holding his nose and singing too slow. It's too bad, because they are good songs otherwise. I guess if you like him, you're golden; but I can't stand these versions. Fortunately, the rest of the disc is really good.
Yes, it's one of the best albums I own.......2007-06-03
I listened to it over and over and over last year. Such quality all 'round.
Brokeback Mountain.......2007-05-13
The product is what I expected. It arrived on time and in the condition advertised.
A matter of taste..........2007-05-08
I didn't really pay a lot of attention to the music in the film, except for in the most intense of scenes. Perhaps this is why I was so, completely, disappointed with this soundtrack. I felt that if it did even half of what the film did for me it would be a worthy buy. My friends, this soundtrack is shat. It's mostly country and folk, which I am plainly not into. If you like these things then check this out - if not, turn away.

Brandy has a lot to prove. She's had five Grammy nominations; she's won one Billboard Music Award, one American Music Award, and several Image and Soul Train awards; and she's sold over 4 million records--all by the age of 19. Never Say Never enters the scene after four years of sophomore jitters and plain old fear. And it enters with a bang. Brandy's voice suggests serious vocal training from her father, and strong songs--some written by her now-19-year-old woman-child self--attempt to take R&B back to its proper plateau. The album's first single, "The Boy Is Mine," and the Mase duet "Top of the World" serve as proof that Brandy still has the chops, determination, and cuteness to take a record to the top. --Asondra R. Hunter

Never Say Never.......2007-07-16
This is a great cd which I go back to frequently. I haven't gotten tired of it yet. I like the range of songs and vocals by Brandy and the Bryan Adams remake was well done. I hope she still releases her upcoming album despite the difficult life circumstances she is dealing with. She has too much talent and too much to share to stop now.
Everyone keeps saying that Brandy's vocals are weak on this album. I don't really see it..........2007-07-01
I do agree with anyone who thinks her vocals between this album and her next album, Full Moon improved immensely though.
This CD is a great mix of pop and R&B and although it's not as strong as Full Moon which is her best album to date, it is still a good album to listen to straight through.
I've been listening to Kelly Clarkson's new album lately but I took a break from it today (mostly) to listen to Brandy's Never Say Never. I am still impressed with it today and think that the song "Tomorrow" is SO underrated.
Best songs:
Learn The Hard Way
The Boy Is Mine
Have You Ever?
One Voice
Tomorrow
Best to worst albums to date:

Brandy
Afrodisiac (so overrated) a 3 star album, easily
Edit: OK, I have noticed that Brandy's vocals aren't the best now that I've listened to it closer. On Put That On Everything and One Voice she strains to hit a note. But she's nowhere as bad as Hilary Duff or Ciara are. Now if you want to talk about bad vocalists overall, please, talk about them. Especially Ciara. >_>
4.5 stars.
Absolute Classic!!!.......2007-02-24
When Brandy came out with this album a few years back, she really blew up on the scene bigger than her first self titled album. This is first of two albums featuring the now famous Rodney Jerkins. She really switched up her style and also had a hand in writing a lot on the album. This album really showed growth in Brandy as a young woman and artist. The best tracks are "Truthfully", "Tomorrow", "Almost Doesn't Count", "The Boy Is Mine", and "Angel in Disguise". There really aren't any fillers on this album you could listen to it straight without skipping any tracks. This is a classic album of heartbreak and disappointments so ladies could definitely feel Brandy on this one.
One of the well known albums in the 90's........2006-06-06
The first I'd ever heard of Brandy was when I saw her duet with Monica, 'The Boy Is Mine' on TV. From this I became a fan of both artist. Brandy's 'Never Say Never' is a mixture of funk and gospel and is one of the few R&B albums that manages to appeal to the pop market yet retain its roots at the same time, much like Janet Jackson.
There are plenty of stand-out tracks, especially 'One Voice' (with Bebe Winans and his gospel choir) and the fantastic 'Top Of The World' with rapper Ma$e. Unlike Mariah Carey, Brandy doesn't let the rappers overpower her fantastic vocals and each song is produced neatly. One big surprise though would have to be Brandy's cover version of Bryan Adams '(Everything I Do) I Do It For You', which Bryan Adams himself said was the best cover of his famous song. Others I like are "Angel in Disguise," "Almost Doesn't Count," "Never Say Never," "Truthfully, Have you Ever?" and the cover of "Everything I do (I do it for you)."
That pretty much covers everything on the album except the so-called "Filler" tracks which include "Learn The Hard Way," "U Don't Know Me (Like U Used To)," "Happy" and "Tomorrow." According to me they are "fillers" but you should listen to them and hear it for your self. I believe she could have worked on them more, 'cause they had good potential to really make this album flow together more nicely. Other than that I would recommend this album to you, especially if your an avid Brandy fans.
The reason why I love music........2006-06-04
When I was 11 years old listing to the radio a lot coming from school on the radio I herd this song oh the song that made me feel so emotional inside a song that oh geesh love. I herd "Have You Ever" on the radio man I was in love with the song. A few moths later my mom got it for my birthday. I ran upstars for the radio and listed to it and enjoyed it. I recommened this album to and Brandy fan and every person who loves R&B. Best of the 90's.

Amazon.com's Best of 2001
The Producers was the vehicle that first proclaimed Mel Brooks's decidedly singular comic vision as a film director in 1968. At the time, the world may not have been entirely ready for the depth charges of hilarity he unleashed; but more than three decades later, it seemed almost foreordained that the film's retooling as a full-fledged musical--directed and choreographed by Susan Stroman--would become the smash hit of the 2000-2001 Broadway season (even before opening at the St. James Theatre in April). Brooks is, of course, no stranger to the Broadway musical genre or to songwriting, but skeptics might find themselves taken by surprise at just how outrageously well all the threads come together for the new show.
The film's absurd core vignette--the infamous "Springtime for Hitler"--if anything gains a few notches in hilarity when framed by a character-rich musical that comes off as both parody and valentine in its mimicry of Broadway's "golden age." Brooks (with the help of idiomatically expert arrangements by Glen Kelly) has cooked up a variety of numbers constituting a virtual primer of old-fashioned American musical comedy styles (there's even a toying with Cabaret-style decadence), but they're always coated with an extra layer of zaniness. In fact, the whole show becomes a Chinese box of parodies within parodies. But what really gets the whole mix working is a surefire cast headed by Nathan Lane playing Max Bialystock and Matthew Broderick doing a delightfully nebbish turn with delusions of misplaced glory as his sidekick, Leo Bloom.
From his first big number (musically winking at Fiddler on the Roof), Lane hungrily lays claim to the role, undaunted by his formidable predecessor, Zero Mostel. Even on disc, you can visualize his over-the-top mugging as a dethroned "king of Broadway" who was "the first producer ever to do summer stock in the winter." Comedy, as they say, is all about timing, and that's exactly what Lane gets right. His interactions with Bloom, Franz Liebkind (Brad Oscar), and Roger de Bris (Gary Beach) are priceless, even when only in sound. As for the tunes, Brooks crafts a number of truly memorable ones--don't be surprised to find yourself horrified as you hum along with "Der Guten Tag Hop-Clop" and, of course, "Springtime for Hitler." --Thomas May

Just what I wanted.......2006-11-06
I saw the making of the CD on TV. The cast does a great job. I have the CD in my car stereo and listen to it often.
I Want to be a producer.......2006-03-06
This recording is great! I saw the play in november and loved the music. I bought the CD a little later and i am still listing to it. The cast are all great singers and did a great job. The songs are witty and catchy and never get old. You should listin to this.(Warning:See the movie or the play before you listin to this, you might hate it if you've have not.)
Spring Time for "The Producers".......2005-12-13
While I'll abmit that Nazi regemes and Hitler are probably some of the least funny thing in the world...i have to admit that the words to Springtime for Hitler are hilarious, just like the rest of the songs on this cast recording.
While "The Producers" Is not as musically complex or mature as other "Best Musical" scores of recent years (Spamalot, Avenue Q, Hairspray,) It is funnier than all of those put together. Nathan lane And Matthew Broderick Are perfectly cast in their roles and Caddy Hoffman is great, and when Ulla belt, she Belts!
the rest of the cast is amazing.
As for the song I can't think of one that I don't like, They are all great!
I would hope that the fact that the show makes light of Hitler doesn't turn you off, because you would be missing somthing great.
Mel Brooks = Brilliant.......2005-12-12
My theatre group went to New York two years ago, adn we did a marathon 4 shows in 3 days. Each show got progressively better, finally culminating in seeing Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick's final performance of "The Producers." I have been a fan of Brooks' since I saw "Robin Hood: Men in Tights" 5 years ago. Naturally, I was beyond excited to see the show he made of his most brilliant film.
I was not disappointed. It was funny, racy, and downright fabulous. I bought the soundtrack at intermission and have been listening to it ever since. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves musicals. Lane and Broderick play off each other perfectly, Cady Huffman has one of the best belting voices I've heard in ages, and the songs are actually FUNNY.
Aside from raving about one of my favorite shows, I would like to address the comments made about the show downplaying Hitler and being racist towards Germans. In no way does this show downplay Hitler's terrible deeds. Bialystock and Bloom make several comments about how disgusted they are about the play- the fact that it is so insulting to our sensibilities is the reason why it was chosen in the first place. I am Jewish and have studied the Holocaust and WWII for years. I was not offended in the least, nor did I feel the Brooks was promoting or trivializing Hitler's war crimes. Brooks himself is Jewish for god's sake.
Second, I see nothing in the show that is racist towards Germans. Yes there is a Nazi in it who is German. How is that racist? The Nazis went all over the world after WWII- it is possible that several ended up in New York City. And no one will argue that some Nazi's were German. You might as well say that the show is discriminatory towards Swedes, or gay directors, or producers, or the countless number of things made fun of in the show.
it won 11 (if im correct) TONY awards for a reason!.......2005-12-08
This is by far the funniest thing I have ever seen. I got the chance to see it on broadway with Lane (unfortunatly not Broderick) and most of the original cast. For some reason, certain people seem to think this play is racist. First off, the whole thing is pure 100% SATIRE. I'm 15 and I can realize that. Also, are you aware that Mel Brooks is jewish? Yeah, so lighten up. I realize what Hitler did, and it will never be forgotten. But my God, get a sense of humor. In case you never saw the play, the Bavarian guy breaks his leg (making "It's bad luck to say good luck on opening night funny) and is replaced by the gay director for the song "Springtime for Hitler". ITS HILARIOUS! BROOKS MADE HITLER A GAY GUY! And why do you think he did that? Geeze... just lighten up!
So about the CD...awesome. I love these songs, and I am very much looking forward to seeing the movie version of the musical coming out in late December! GO SEE IT!

Title Track Rocks but not much else.......2007-07-12
I love the Title Track but I think that the rest of the CD is plain and has no punch. I might have overlooked one or two other songs that are decent on this CD but really, the only reason to buy this CD would be for "Never Say Die"
They sure say 'Die' a lot on this album!.......2007-06-28
I guess that was a tongue-in-cheek album title considering the word "die" is sung in one form or another in a few songs on the album. Anyway...Old Geezer's 5-star review nailed my sentiments for this album perfectly, though I'll give a more restrained 4 stars. I am not particularly a Black Sabbath fan. I used to own Master of Reality a while back and I did enjoy it, but I found this album only by accident in my older brother's library one day many moons ago. It immediately grabbed me back then with all it's fantastic hooks, and it has remained a deeply satisfying album to listen to over the years as my musical tases have greatly expanded. I love the varied textures and the copius good guitar licks. Best of all, the vocals are very powerful both melodically and harmonically. I will only give 4 stars to an album that is consistently decent for the full duration. There are a couple of less interesting tracks here, but overall the album is a blast from start to finish. Great listening!
PS - Fer cryin out loud, Air Dance is a dang good song...there's nothing wrong with Black Sabbath throwing in some softer music lines for a little relief!
The one that polarizes Sabbath fans.........2007-05-29
I love reading reviews of this album. Either it was the worst album or one of the best depending on what aspects of Sabbath one most admires. They had moved far far away from the detuned sludge doom of the classic early albums. But in in 1978 no one wanted to hear gloom and doom. Sabbath took a risk and tried mixing many different influences; more emphasis on songs than riffs, some keyboards and a little jazz fusion. The production is a bit boxy and thin in places, especially guitar and drums. But I think it is nevertheless a brilliant album, and "Johnny Blade', "Junior's Eyes" and "Shockwave" are among their best. Fans of metal, bless em, are typically not the most musically adventurous and you put in some jazz influence and non-riff oriented songs and they flip the f#% out. The musicians in Sabbath all played jazz and nothing is more Sabbath than throwing some in. And Bill Ward's vocal on "Swinging The Chain" is fantastic. I love this record. It is not typical Sabbath and was not intended to be. No other record before or since has ever sounded quite like it and for that it will always have a special place for me. I found it far more interesting than "Techinical Ecstacy".
The title says it all . . ........2007-05-10
Technical Ecstasy was a grim hint of things to come if Sabbath didn't pull out of their tailspin. Unfortunately they didn't nor did they decide to call it a day before releasing the ill-fated Never Say Die. It's an ironic and sad end to the original lineup of a band that was the benchmark for an entire genre of music and who inspired countless bands that took their vision to the next level and beyond. Granted, it has its moments. The title track is the most engaging song on it, followed by A Hard Road and perhaps Johnny Blade. The overall flavor of the album, however, is one of contention and misery. Compared to everything that came before it, Never Say Die is uninspired, directionless, and difficult to enjoy given their auspicious history. If you're a diehard fan, there's probably enough here to make it worth the purchase. If you want to remember Ozzy's tour with Sabbath in a more charitable light, consider Technical Ecstasy their last album (I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt) and leave this one in the cutout bin.
The Album That Killed The Original Lineup Of Black Sabbath.......2007-04-16
Ozzy said that he was ashamed of this album, that it took so frigging long to make Never Say Die! that the entire vision of the album was lost. He's not far off. Drugs! Alcohol! Ego-Demons! The War was on! Sabbath was in full-scale shambles. During the recordng sessions for Never Say Die! Tony Iommi would lock himself away in a room to do cocaine all day, only to emerge at night to record his musical parts by himself. How's that for a tight, nuclear band? Never Say Die! gets three stars simply for two songs. One is the title track and the other is Johnny Blade. Everything else is far to the left or far to the right. Let's check out the track listing:
Never Say Die - The final classic Sabbath tune with Ozzy at the helm. A solid rocker. Clean. Neat. Metal!
Johnny Blade - Future Ozzy keyboardist Don Airey gives us a peak at the diection Ozzy's solo career will take in this killer tune. I don't know why, but this song is catchy. A personal favorite. Ozzy sounds alive again after the butchery that was Techncal Ecstasy. Awesome.
Junior's Eyes - Starts off like a mellow lounge jam. Very low key. Ozzy belts it out here. The riffs start to flow. Not a bad tune. Teenage angst song.
A Hard Road - Straight-ahead rocker. Kinda light for Sabbath, but what's new. Good, catchy chorus. A bit simple.
Shock Wave - The opening riff is very promising, very hard and Iommi delivers it with passion. The lyrics are kinda mixed and that detracts from making it memorable. Sounds kinda like Sabbath trying to be Kiss. Sounds like something from The Elder.
Air Dance - Good intro riff and then it slides into piano lounge music with over-delayed Ozzy vocals. Boring. Don Airey is good. But we didn't buy Sabbath to hear the hired keyboardist, right? Dragging. Is this Sabbath or Tony Orlando and Dawn?
Over To You - Iommi had some great riffs going on but they sounded mechanical and reheated. The songs start blending together into the indistinguishable and that ain't good. Ozzys vocals are too high and phased out. They did that far too much in the later Sabbath years. Thought it sounded eerie and haunting. Probably hid some of Ozzy's setbacks as a singer. Hmmmm. This song is boring. Over to you. What can I do? Exactly!
Breakout - Uh....What the f*ck is this? Are we in a Jazz Bar for heroin addicts? Or is this supposed to be a Black Sabbath album? I don't know where this saxophone-laced jam came from, but it should have stayed there. Unreal.
Swinging The Chain - Bill Ward gets the last laugh on the last Sabbath album with the original lineup. And we're sooooooo sorry. The worst progression change in rock history? Close. What is this tripe?
The end of an era. A year later Ozzy would piss off ringleader Tony Iommi with his missing stints and his drunken lateness and that would be it. Iommi would employ Ozzy's best friend, Bill Ward, to do the dirty deed of firing Ozzy as Sabbath's singer. We should thank Iommi forever! Not only does tha open the door for Sabbath: The Dio Years, but it also gives us Blizard Of Ozz, the greatest heavy metal album of all time! Ozzy and Sabbath will fight publically for years to come, but Never Say Die! was not the way the most influential metal band of all neeeded to go out. Blasphemy.
Deal with it!

Customer Reviews:
The greatest songs ever?.......2007-07-26
I heard 'clear or cloudy', from this recording, on the radio recently and had to purchase it. It is strange but it is the sort of song that makes life prior to listening to it different from life after. I find it sad that so many people haven't heard it. There are also many other wonderful works in this collection. Given you get twelve well recorded CDs with top quality performances, this has to be one of the bargains of the age.
Please buy it.
A musical treasure-box.......2006-09-10
Both the music and this actual product are masterpieces. John Dowland's collected works here - covering 12 compact discs - exhibit the depth and power of this composer, a composer who many now regard as suffering from clinical depression. I doubt that the issue of the diagnosis of Dowland's depression can ever be settled, however, it is certainly obvious from his music, so completely on display here, that he was a man with very dark depths and corners in his mind. Dowland's various manifestations and "takes" on his own tune, "Flow my tears"/"Lachrimae" are here. This tune has haunted me ever since I first heard it when I was a child. It seems to sum up Dowland's feelings - at least Dowland seems to have thought so.
The First, Second, Third and Fourth Bookes of Songes, A Musicall Banquet, the keyboard transcriptions, all the lute music, consort music are here and virtually everything else written or supposedly written by John Dowland. Anthony Rooley and The Consort of Musicke perform this music with style and feeling throughout. This 12 CD set is something of a monument to the ensemble - I only wish they'd finished their collection of Monteverdi madrigals, which was equally good (La Venexiana are currently doing a magnificent job of recording all Monteverdi's books of madrigals for the GLOSSA label).
This is an expensive set, however, you will probably never need to buy another John Dowland CD again after buying and listening to this collection.
I bought this CD set on a mild Summer evening of 1998 and listened to it while sitting in my sun room - which a glorious orange sunset in progress, and a glass of wine. It brought back so many memories.
a beautiful journey into melancholy.......2001-06-15
I'm amazed at how many people tend to associate John Dowland's music with a tragic sense of drama. While no doubt this is art highly based on sadness, the "tragic" sense of it is more a legacy from the Romantic period. During the Renaissance, however, sadness was undestood as a very aesthetic way of approaching life. That is also the reason why Shakespeare's tragedies appear more sophisticated than his comedies.
Dowland, a contemporary of Shakespeare, discovered that meditating on a sad theme is, at the same time, a way of discovering a special beauty that we tend to avoid (maybe because of the "tragic" heritage of the Romantics). So, in the end, meditating on sadness is an uplifting experience! This box set is a journey into melancholy that includes songs, chamber music, pieces for lute, some rare sacred music and -as a highlight- Dowland's beautiful collection of seven pieces for viola which he called "Lachrimae" (Tears).

A Beautiful Re-Creation of Over-Exposed Legrand Material.......2006-02-10
Michel Legrand is one the biggest artists of music entertainment, a sensitive composer and arranger.
Here you'll find a correct selection of Legrand's material with unnecessarily new arrangements though with an impeccable performance.
Many of the songs in the repertoire are still available in CDs you can find here @Amazon and the best Legrand is the original Legrand.
This album stands only for those who doesn't care about original takes and wishes just for a selection of the best Legrand.
"one of the greatest film composers of the 20th Century ~ Michel Legrand".......2005-10-26
Silva Screen has released a collection that will set you on your ear "The Essential Michel Legrand Film Music Collection"...Legrand's score sets the tone and mood you experience a sense of power and freedom, so exhilarating...Legrand's genius in composition and orchestration, puts the listener smack dab in the middle of each film he scores as it serves up a generous helping of heaven for all "film-score-buff" collectors
Michel Legrand was born in Paris on February 24th, 1932...attended the Paris Conservatory Progressing...worked in various jazz bands, later a staff arranger and composer...an orchestrator in the '50s...scored films in the early '60s with "THE UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG" (1964)..."THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR" (1968)..."THE GO-BETWEEN" (1970)..."SUMMER OF '42" (1971)..."THE THREE MUSKETEERS" (1973)...and three Oscars from the Academy Awards for "THE WINDMILLS OF YOUR MIND" for best music and original song in 1969 , "SUMMER OF '42" for best original song and original dramatic score in 1972... "YENTL for best music and original song score in 1984...then in 2003 nominated for Broadway's Tony Awards for Best Original Music Score for the Musical "Amour", there's no letting up for this hard working composer.
The Flemish Radio Orchestra featuring conductor composer Michel Legrand on piano and harpsichord, Philippe Chayeb on bass, Thierry Chauvet on drums and Bruno Caviglia on guitar...all in all did a magnificent job in bringing the music of a composer who wrote for a multitude of films, receiving recognition from the industry and fans which is long over-due ~ his work is in constant demand.
This collection contains an overlay of each cue in Legrand's distinctive style of legendary scoring ~ the man who made this possible, a tremendous asset to every project he undertakes is Reynold da Silva [executive producer of the album] ~ symphonic suites with full orchestra fullfilling the "film-score-buffs" cravings for more of the same, just the way we like 'em!

Customer Reviews:
Selections from the Greatest Voice of the Last Hundred Years.......2007-03-13
Mario Lanza was, arguably, the greatest tenor and greatest singer of this and the last century. It is difficult to appreciate him without listening to a variety of selections. This collection has some of his best recordings and exhibits the versatility and variety that he possessed that permitted him to "crossover" from opera to popular music with a ease.
I recommend this for those who already know Lanza to some extent but want to go into more depth and understand his marvelous skills.
A Must Have .......2006-12-12
I had forgotten what a beautiful voice Mario Lanza had. This collection contains opera and pop selections that exhibit the power yet sweetness of his voice. Fortunately, we have his CD's and videos so we can remember and listen to his gorgeous, vibrant voice and personality. I highly recommend this collection along with his wonderful movies, especially The Great Caruso.
The Mario Lanza Collection.......2006-11-10

The MARIO LANZA Collection.......2006-08-19
extract from most important LPs. Brilliant sound quality from RCA. Also included are soundtrack recordings from some of his movies. The are several reissues from Mario Lanza but this one is a collection you should have.
WONDERFUL!!!!!.......2005-10-19
The Mario Lanza Collection is a three CD set and it has 61 songs and they all sound great. The mastering on this set is excellent and the song choice is very very good. It would have been perfect if they added a forth CD with more Arias, Italian songs and Sacred Arias. BUT still this set is a great introduction to Lanza. Lanza's voice was powerful and beautiful; if you are a fan of great singing, you will love Lanza. Highlights on this CD set are; Be my Love, Because your Mine, Serenade, With a Song in My Heart, Temptation, The Lord's Prayer, Ciribirbin, O Solo Mio, Ariverducci Roma, and on and on. They are many many great songs on this set, and I highly recommend it.
