    Missionary VBA is back and applying her own brand of ministry and interpretation to today's inspirational sounds, which she has always done in her studio recordings.

    The Jerkins Crew, J Moss, Smokie Norful are among the producers on this all-too-brief project. While none of the 10 songs are standouts, all of them are memorable and original with the exception of the opening cut, which is too obviously an R. Kelly/"God's Grace" ripoff. Just when you're getting into some of them, they fade out a bit too quickly ... and the set list is already short. But brevity beats bloatedness.

    While Vanessa's voice has changed a bit -- it's been nearly 25 years since "Peace Be Still" -- overall it's held up well over time. The quality of her tone and flexibility still really can't be compared to anyone else (besides the obvious Aretha influence) and for the most part it's hard to believe you're listening to someone in her 50's. If you liked the way she sounded on her 2001 set "Brand New Day" you'll like the way she sounds here.

    I have only one problem with this set, being a HUGE fan of 'Nessa's voice. Those lovely and soulful ad-libs are sometimes buried so far down in the mix that you really have to listen extra hard to hear what she's doing vs. the background vocalists. Why did the producers or execs feel that was necessary? Yes, there are some imperfections here and there but that's often where the character and passion are.

    Regardless, most people won't mind that. I am grateful for the messages, ministry and music that Ms. Armstrong delivers on WALKING MIRACLE. Recommended for anyone that wants a time capsule of choice contemporary gospel circa 2007 delivered by a phenomenal vocalist who still has much to offer.

    I believe that Vanessa is a talented gospel singer who needs to stop singing what the record companies make her and stick to her roots as a traditional gospel singer. I was glad to hear she had a new record, but if you are looking for the Old Vanessa, then you will be disappointed. On some cuts, her voice reaches the heavens. But for most of the CD her talents are wasted on songs that do not play to her distinctive vocal prowess. If she MUST go uptempo, then have John P. Kee produce her.

    I was kinda skeptical about this project at first because I was unsure about the selection of producers for the project, but VANESSA DID IT AGAIN!!!!!!!
    I love this project from start to finish. Vanessa is giving the vocals that we all know and love from her! She is just wearing this material out. Clearly one of the best releases so far of 2007. This will certainly hold me over until the release of the Clark Sisters new project!!!

    This CD is simply Beautiful. I got it as a Christmas gift and I am so very grateful. Each and every song is truly a treasure, especially What Shall I Render, Desire of My Heart, The Classics, and We Sing Glory. If you're thinking about buying it, don't hesitate. Vanessa is truly blessed with one of those voices that will have you in tears!

    I have not bought the CD...YET...but I have been a fan of Vanessa's since I was in Jr High School. The Denied Stone is just so, so amazing! I listen to that song at least 15 times a day. If you don't have this CD yet, by all means, get it! This lady will blow you away! Her voice is so beautiful and so full of spirit! She is absolutely the best I have ever heard!

    I really enjoyed this disc. Obviously, the label attempted to get a variety of her music from each project she did. We get a snippet of her good-ole-fashion church solo on "What Shall I Render." And the best of some of her choir pieces in "We Sing Glory" and "I'm Encouraged." I was a little upset that, instead of giving the full version of one of most her prized and requested songs, "Peace Be Still," they took the version in the medley from her latest, live CD. I also wish they had "Amazing Grace (Shall Always Be My Song of Praise)" instead of the 80s contemporary "Pressing On"...But you can't win 'em all. Nice addition to the collection of those who don't have any of her work.

    Vanessa Bell Armstrong is one of the greatest gospel singers I have ever met. I had the opportunity of seeing her in Connecticut this weekend and she really ministered to the audience with Peace Be Still. God, knows I needed to hear her voice. She is an awesome singer.

    Ms. Armstrong is regarded by many as the finest female vocalist alive. Her voice is too remarkable to be described: thunderous with all the glory of The Father one moment, then a seamless transition into the meekness of The Lamb the next...with a range that has been touched by the Holy Spirit.

    At various points during her recorded career, her capabilities have been done justice, but not consistently. "Desire Of My Heart" captures Vanessa at her most vibrant in a TRULY live setting -- not studio applause and whoops. Let's take a brief look at each track.

    1) We Sing Glory -- a solid opener that lets you know that this is gonna be one good ol' concert!

    2) Free -- a song written by her sister Margaret. Very jazzy with an R&B flair, it makes a segue into a powerful declaration of freedom at the song's climax. By this time, Vanessa throws in some of her vocal gymnastics to great effect.

    3) You Alone Are Worthy -- a praise and worship song that just might catch you off guard and bring you to tears.

    4) Desire Of My Heart -- Vanessa wrote this one, her personal testimony of self-examination. It's a very simple song with few lyrics, but it's developed quite thoroughly with a killer arrangement: and of course, she sings the stew out of it.

    5) Never Alone -- by this point, Vanessa is on fire. This heavyweight song, written by the great Armirris Palmore, is simply a perfect representation of what a person should take from a traditional gospel piece of this nature: conviction, reassurance, determination, and all KINDS of emotion! It's hard to imagine anyone singing this song but VBA. The whole song is amazing, but there's a part during the vamp in which she squalls "God will never, ever leave you: NEVER!" that will give you chills.

    6) Grab Hold -- Well after all that, it's time to do a holy dance! This is the song to cut your step on. Made for morning worship service!

    7) Yes He Loves Me -- a contemporary number whose melody will stick with you long after the music stops. Fantastic background vocals...but that's the par for this album.

    8) He Is Lord -- a duet with the incomparable Marvin Winans, only fitting since this was recorded at his church. You can't go wrong with a duet between Marvin and 'Nessa.

    9) Oil of God -- John P. Kee wrote this one. Minister Kee has been accused of writing soundalike songs, but this one is lyrically and musically different. It is a powerful song, and again...you won't be able to imagine anyone singing it but Vanessa.

    10) Labor in Vain -- old time "chuch" with VBA's daddy. Excellent!

    11) The Classics -- a medley of Nobody But Jesus, Real, Peace Be Still. I would have personally preferred a complete version of one of these songs, but this will do. Why? You guessed it: she sings the stew out of this medley.

    The "Desire Of My Heart" album wins not only because of Vanessa. It succeeds because the material is so consistently good, as are the band, production, sound, and background vocals. You will appreciate it more and more with every listen, and owe it to yourself to check it out.

    There's a lot of inspirational music today, but not enough of true praise and worship. Vanessa's "Desire of My Heart" truly captures the Spirit of Praise & Worship. If you want to be blessed, purchase this cd.

    What can I say? This album instantly became my favorite after the 1st time I listened to it. I have never owned any of her other works, but this one proved to be just what my Spirit needed. She is definitely anointed of God, and you know this album was inspired by him. She's able to reach the depth of your soul, not only with her vocals, but with the very words that make up these songs. This includes the song written by her Sister, and the other's (Oil of God & Labor in Vain) featured on the album. As my grandmother says, "It cut to the quick!" In other words, it cuts deep and to the point. To the point of invoking thought about the very nature of our God. This truly is an inspiring, encouraging, and uplifting work by Sis. Bell-Armstrong. Listening to these songs of praise, worship, and exhortation automatically usher you into your own private praise and worship service with the Lord! Thank You Vanessa for letting the Lord use you! May God Bless you in and with more to come!

    I'm a member of the up and coming UAB Gospel choir (University of Alabama at Birmingham).I recently got the chance to perform and sing in concert with Vanessa Bell Armstrong in concert in February of 1999. The lady those some fierce singing! I wasn't really aware of her talents until I witnessed them for myself in person. The songs from this CD has the capapabilty of stirring up and moving any bench warmer sitting on any church pew.

      CCLAY~CCLAY,I won't say that Vanessa Bell Armstrong is having a hard time getting a record deal.
      Right now VBA is going thru a trail,she & her favorite God~child / Producation Manger Destin Dorothy are like jelly fish without each other!!!
      There are some mean evil people in the world that hate to see the two of them doing very well with each other,they jell together writing songs etc.!!!
      VBA has another cd out called "SING TO GLORY" an oldie but Goodie,she need not re~mix any of her old stuff,just get with DD who is willing to produce her next cd,who has a ton of song all ready wrote!!!
      Vanessa needs to obey God and not man,forget that John Prince Kee ever was in her life!!!

      It is a shame that artist like Vanessa Bell Armstrong Can't get a record deal these days. I think gospel music is trying to market thier artist like the world does. They are looking for the cute girls and boys so that record sales can increase, and they can market the album in other genre's like r&b. Im sorry if you don't agree but this is what I'm seeing. I don't like all this music they recording today. Im just one person in a big world, but that is my opinion. If vanessa Bell wants to come back in gospel, this is what she needs to do. Get Donald Lawrence to produce an album for her with song writers like Bishop Eric McDaniels, out of the Bronx, New York. His church is called The Lord's Church. His music is on Hezekiah walker's albums. These two individuals will really help her. Thomas Whitefield was a awesome producer and songwriter that many years ago brought Vanessa bell Armstrong TO HER NEXT LEVEL OF SUCCESS. Unfortunelty, he died early. But I feel if she does this, it will work. She has paved the way for many of these artist today, but apparently they weren't listening to her. Thank You Vanessa, and Tramaine Hawkins for the good early years. Donald Lawrence would take Vanessa's old material and re-record it. It would be AWESOME!!!

      Vanessa is astounding. My first CD by here was "Desire of My heart". many people wonder why she never won a grammy or is not in the mainstream. I personally am glad that she is not, I left the church years ago b/c of personal reasons, but mainstream artists present nothing to me, b/c I am not sure if they are singing from teh heart or the wallet, but this lady got me through a very difficult time in my life!! I listen to her CD when I get to work in the mornig to help me deal with the day to day rigor of the job adn she never fails me!!!! And that is reward enough for me!!!

      It would have added that extra boost to the cd if my little something was on the cd,but it was replaced by "Oil Of God" you all know who the writter is on that one,something that makes you say uhm,but I'm not going to be bad today,I'll let God do His thing on that issue like "Always"!!!

      Vanessa Bell Armstrong. There is no way I can described the way her songs motivate me and keep me grounded in the lord. Everytime I play her CD I cry. I love her. I love her music, and her voice. When I listen to her sing, I feel like I'm being touched by an angel. This Women Is The Best!!! The CD is the Greatest!!! I'm on Amizon right now, because I played the CD so much it fell apart. It doesn't even play any more. Anyone who buys this CD is going to fall in love with it. I know I did. My all time favorite is Nobody but Jesus,Any You Bless, and Walk With Me. If you don't have it. GET IT!!!!!!!!

      4 out of 5 stars Thomas Whitfield produced half of this album..........2001-07-17

      ...and it shows! As usual, Vanessa sings the stew out of every song, showing off her range and vocal textures on this contemporary gospel collection. The material is great throughout the album, although the last four cuts -- produced by the late Maestro -- are the absolute best, and destined to become classics. "Calvary" alone is worth the price of this CD: it is hauntingly powerful and moving, with an unearthly performance by Ms. Armstrong and the backup singers.

      Don't get me wrong! The first four cuts are strong also. John P. Kee "shows up" on "Something On The Inside," and Vanessa sounds a lot like Aretha on some lines. "Everlasting Love" is a great skate song, and "Don't You Give Up" and "Ounce of Your Love" are both good examples of R&B gospel.

      The only thing that keeps this from being a 5 star album is the fact that the sound quality of the Whitfield produced tracks is not quite as good as the rest of the album for some reason (oddly, since those are the best songs!). But if you're a Vanessa fan, you should buy this album. If you're not a fan, you should still buy it, because you will be after just one listen.

      Vanessa Bell Armstrong is a talented Gospel singer with a beautiful voice. I purchased this CD as a used CD. This is the only one I didnt have. The story of Calvary and Father I stretch are by far the 2 best on this CD. I found Desire of my heart to be her best CD yet and I give that one 5 stars. This one is just ok, it didnt leave me uplifed like her other CD's do.

      THIS CD IS A VERSATILE CD. IT HAS SOMETHING FOR EVERYBODY. MY FAVORITE SONG IS THE "SECRET IS OUT", WHICH TESTIFIES THAT JESUS SHALL COME AGAIN!!! VANESSA SINGS EACH SONG WHICH SUCH CONVICTION AND PASSION THAT YOU CAN'T HELP BUT TO WORHIP AND DANCE. VANESSA YOU ARE TRULY A BLESSING IN MY LIFE!!! VANESSA IS TRULY THE BEST FEMALE VOICE IN GOSPEL MUSIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

      this cd has brought so much peace to my life. when i'm down i play this cd and it is so very very uplifting. my children just love the song titled ninth month. that song has so much power and anointing. when i perform any song on this cd i try to feel what venessa felt when she recorded it. thanks venessa

      See, I'm going to write a song called, "SHE'E THE ONE" , in this field. Those that know can say, without arrogant actions, she can come ON ANYBODY if she really wanted. She is annionted, and although SWV was trying to go against her 5 years ago on one of the awards shows... you can't mess with Vanessa. Who are these people ? She's been running for Jesus a LONG TIME, like she's been running her vocal chords just as long. I wish I could here her as in middle-school times cuz they are most exciting, and can tell if they are gonna BLOW UP in the future. Look @ the Future !

      Vanessa has been given a review by one of the Worlds Best Oprah who said, "I DON'T CARE WHO YOU ARE, AND HOW WELL YOU SING, YOU WILL NEVER, EVER, OUT SING VANESSA BELL ARMSTRONG". Vanessa is one "MINISTER" that has been versitle enough to sing anything...
      When you hear Vanessa, you hear nothing but HOLINESS... I will certainly say that she has not recieved nearly as much as she deserves... But she is cetainly "BRINGS OUT THE BEST" in any song... "KEEP PRESSIN' ON VANESSA"

I Belive That Vanessa Bell Armstrong Was Promoted Better When She Was On "Jive" Record Label,Which She Needs To Go Back Too And Forget About -_-!!!

      No, this is NOT another "Desire of My Heart," but I hope she does something like that again soon. Think of this as her new millenium version of "Something on the Inside," and you've got the spirit of this CD.

      The title track has a good groove and is repetitive in the current vein. "Do What He Said" is classic, churchy, squalling Vanessa. The rest of the album is good material that will grow on you after a few listens, which means you'll appreciate this album for a while. Minister Deitrick Haddon's production is good (but not great in some spots), and Nessa's voice is in fine form throughout. It's almost impossible to realize that she is nearly 50 -- she sounds as though she's in her 20's on many of these cuts! Amazingly versatile.

      It's ironic that the title of this album is "Brand New Day;" and the company that issued this album (Tommy Boy Gospel) folded recently. Hopefully, another label will pick up Vanessa and showcase her talent the way that Verity did with the live album. In the meantime, "Brand New Day" will water your soul, with the unique talents of the incomparably gifted Vanessa Bell Armstrong.

      i played this cd to death, you never cease to amaze me
      this album is uplifting, moving and simply touching
      everyone that i let hear this album, they couldn't believe that this was an older lady killing it the way she was. you feel because she's been in the business since the 80's you feel that she will loose it and wouldn't know how to adapt to the new sound. the woman is singing it as if she as be singing in the new style all her life i love every track You go girl. you are simply anointed
      and anything you sings touches my heart
