About the Artist
The Voice of Diary Diary (Ashley Jones) is amazing. Her music is jazzy, R&B/Pop music with so much soul, it s sure to move any crowd. She was discovered by one of Opinium Records best producers at a church in Statesboro, Ga. With no formal training what so-ever, her natural voice is strong yet angelic. Needless to say, before Opinium Records, she had not done much secular music. But as we have found out, Diary was a hidden treasure with so many unexpected hidden talents.
Talented Singer/Songwriter/Producer During artist development we found early on that she was a born songwriter. Poetic, relevant, and hip are just a few ways to describe her songs. Every song on the album was either written or co-written by her. The beauty of her voice is only matched by her songwriting.
To top off this talented 20 year old's resume, she also produces. Some of the best music on her new album was produced by her. She is truly a diamond in the ruff sure to draw a crowd and keep'em coming for years to come.

Put together by Abba's own Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, Mamma Mia! manages to cram over 20 of the Swedish supergroup's songs into a threadbare plot. It goes a little like this: Young Sophie is getting married and she's trying to identify which of three men is her father. That's about it. Wisely, the musical doesn't mess around with the songs, save for the insertion of some dialogue or for having some of them performed by a man (it works amazingly well). Abba fans will jump on this import of the London production, but traditional fans of musical theater should consider it as well. After all, Andersson and Ulvaeus's songs have always felt as if they were more than isolated pop gems and actually belonged to a longer narrative. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

I have not stopped playing this cd. It is just great! It makes any trip in my car most enjoyable Happy I bought it!
Mamma Mia Musical CD.......2007-03-21
This is a grand list of songs from the original musical when it was first introduced in England. The songs from ABBA are very recognizable even if you haven't seen the show. But, making a trip to NY to see the Broadway production is a plus. ENJOY!
JUST GREAT MUSIC.......2007-03-08
I RECENTLY SAW THE SHOW MAMMA MIA IN LAS VEGAS. ALWAYS LIKES THE MUSIC OF ABBA, AND THOUGH THE PLOT WAS THIN, THE MUSIC WAS WELL PERFORMED. IN THIS PARTICULAR ALBUM, THE ENGLISH ACCENTS WERE A BIT MUCH, BUT THE SONGS WERE GREAT. ALL I CAN SAY IS THANK YOU FOR THE MUSIC, ABBA.
Mamma Mia.......2007-01-29
Every time I hear the music and songs it brings back memories of seeing the Broadway Show
Not good at all.......2007-01-09
This is not what we wanted. The British accents throw it was off. We just saw it in NY and this is not what we were looking for.

Album Description
At only 16 years old, Bryce Avary put out a self-titled EP as "The Rocket Summer". Local radio shows started playing tracks from the album. Two more records, Calendar Days and Hello, Good Friend followed, along with the fans, who sing along to every word of every song. Soon, Avary found himself headlining mid-size concert halls. Do You Feel, his first major label release with Island Def Jam, is similar to his previous work in that he wrote and performed the entire album himself. Co-Produced by Jim Wirt (Incubus, Jack's Mannequin), it is also possibly the most energetic and upbeat album you'll hear all year. Do You Feel is full of guitar-fueled power pop, piano-laced ballads and big, big choruses. The horn-driven "So Much Love," the first single, marks a bit of a departure, and one of the rare times Avary collaborated with other musicians. "There's a common theme on this record," says Avary, wanting to do greater things for the world, and not just trying to be a rock-'n'roll star. I think we all have that desire but our issues and daily life get in the way. These songs are about trying to overcome that."
Customer Reviews:
can't get this album out of my head.......2007-07-25
Wow...this CD was my introduction to the rocket summer and i was blown away. This is honestly one of those CDs you can listen to from front to back and not skip a track. My friend told me that the lead singer, Bryce Avary, writes, sings and plays every instrument on the whole CD, which I thought was really impressive. The stand out tracks are "So Much Love", "Break It Out" and "High Life Scenery". I challenge you to listen to at least these songs and try to get them out of your head...it won't be happening. I know that The Rocket Summer is playing on the Warped Tour this summer and I cannot wait to see them...I've heard their live show is just ridiculous. This CD is great for fans of Something Corporate, Dashboard, Ben Folds and Blink-182.
Better than the best.......2007-07-22
I've fallen in love with Bryce's 2 previous albums and now there are 3!!! You would be missing out on everything good in life if you did not purchase this CD and give it a chance. Don't just think it is another pop-punk band... it's different. He is one of the only bands to bring out the beauty in the world with his lyrics.
Better With Age..........2007-07-22
This is now the third full-length CD released by the amazingly talented Bryce Avary, the one man band The Rocket Summer. I was first introduced to TRS back in 2004, with Calander Days, which quickly became one of my favorite CDs of all time. Then, with the release of Hello, Good Friend, a few years later, Bryce only continued to blow us away with an even more enriched musical experience. He added more layers to the harmonies, more depth to his lyrics, and more instruments to his report. I didn't think it could get much better, as Hello, Good Friend is one of my favorite albums, by any artist, of all time. However, to the point, Do You Feel, has topped that. I couldn't wait for it to be released, and bought it the second I could. Since then, I've listened to it over and over and over again, loving it more and more each time. This time, Bryce adds a slightly political, and moral stance to some of his songs (Do You Feel), and his vocals are absolutely phenomenal. The same intensity from HGF is there, but some of the screaming has been toned down (come on...you remember...). The downside? there are some moments that will bring back a lot of that classic TRS sound. But, I guess, if you're a fan, that repitition isn't such a bad thing at all. Anyways, I love this CD as much, no, more than any of Bryce's other stuff, and I've been a fan since the beginning of time. I recommend EVERYONE buy this CD. If it doesn't stick right away, give it 3 or 4 listens and I guarentee you'll be in love...
The Rocket Summer delivers again.......2007-07-19
Do You Feel is the new album from The Rocket Summer. It is everything I hoped for and more. I have been a fan of TRS from the beginning. Bryce has an amazing ability to bring something unique to every record he's ever released. There is not one song from TRS that I do not enjoy. Bryce has talent in every aspect, from his lyrics to the fact that he plays all of the instruments on his records. On top of that he's a really nice guy who genuinly cares about his fans. I highly recommend Do You Feel to anyone. Whether your a devoted fan or your just realizing the full potential of TRS, this album is for you.
good, but not as good.......2007-07-17
this is a good cd, but not as good as calendar days or hello, good friend. its slightly dissapointing as its much more generic and mainstream than the former albums. its missing that certain spark that only comes from bryce's songs like "tv family" or "brat pack". its good though, every song is catchy and the lyrics are mature and well composed. all in all, bryce nailed it again.

Man of La Mancha, the show that introduced "The Impossible Dream" to the world (and lounge singers everywhere), was the hit of the 1965 Broadway season. Richard Kiley is magnificent in his career-defining performance as the deluded wannabe knight Don Quixote. His leading lad Joan Diener sings the role of the kitchen wench Aldonza with just the right balance of dignity and vulgarity. Irving Jacobson turns in a fine comic performance as the Don's faithful squire, Sancho Panza. The score, with music by Mitch Leigh and lyrics by Joe Darion, was revolutionary in its time. The orchestra had no violins--just brass, woodwinds, percussion, and flamenco guitars. Man of La Mancha is one of Broadway's most inspiring musicals and it well deserves its high reputation. --Michael Simmons

Check out Other Versions. Don't be swayed by Others' Reviews........2007-06-09
I've never seen this show on stage and my first exposure to the music was the Sony CD Man of La Mancha featuring Placido Domingo, Pandy Patankin, and Julia Migenes-Johnson. Despite lackluster reviews of the disk, I enjoy it, and when I saw this version at a second hand book/music store, I decided check it out too. My initial impression was that the Sony version was the better disk but decided to compare both versions by setting up a playlist in Media Player, playing tracks from both version back-to-back.
After that test, I have to agree with the reviews here that Richard Kiley is the superior Don Quixote. Domingo's voice is, of course wonderful, but Kiley acts the role better on the CD and Domingo's accent is a major distraction.
In the role of Aldonza - no contest. Julia Mingenes-Johnson's singing and performance on the Sony version is far superior to Joan Diener's. I didn't have to hear the tracks back-to-back to realize that. Ms. Diener's performance just grated on my ears from the beginning.
Bucking the crowd, I prefer Mandy Patankin's Sancho (Sony version) to Irving Jacobson's. I may be biased, having had more exposure to the Sony version, but Patankin seemed to be trying to inject a bit more feeling into the character. Jacobson, singing in an annoying, scratchy voice, came across almost like a cartoon trying to fit in among live characters. It seems like most people either like Patankin or hate him. Guess I'm one of the former.
The Orchestration does seem brighter/clearer in this version compared to the Sony version, but, in general, the tempo on most tracks seems slower than the same tracks on the Sony version. I preferred the up-tempo, Sony versions of "The Barber Song", "Little Bird, Little Bird", "The Dubbing" and "A Little Gossip".
In Summary: For Kiley's Don Quixote, you'll probably want this version, but for tracks featuring Aldonza (and maybe Sancho) you'll want to check out the Sony version. Since I have both disks, I will probably come up with a mix of my favorite tracks, in general, favoring the Sony disk but substituting the tracks that feature Richard Kiley's Don Quixote where I can.
beautiful music for a haunting story............2007-06-07
I remember reading excerpts from Cervantes' DON QUIXOTE, as a Spanish student, way back in junior high school. The saga of the madman fighting windmills and pursuing his illusions [and delusions] was very sad, but very romantic at the same time. When the musical adaptation, MAN OF LA MANCHA, was brought to the stage in 1965, Richard Kiley (as the title character, Don Quixote) absolutely transfixed the audience with his sensitively heartfelt portrayal of the tragic madman. The plight of Don Quixote, who travels on horseback, with his faithful companion, Sancho Panza (Irving Jacobson), and absolutely lovestruck by kitched wench Aldonza (Joan Denier), is alternately pathetic and profound. Perhaps one of the best known (and most remade) songs in the repertoire from LA MANCHA, is "The Impossible Dream." Richard Kiley really make it his own, here, and after you hear his version, it's hard to listen to others' versions of it. It's just not the same. Though, this story is anything but joyful, the music will glide through your ears and carry you on a surrealistic journey through attempted triumph and (ultimately) tragedy.
Man of LaMancha As Good As Ever.......2007-05-07
Very pleased with ourchase of this item. Quality is great as was the price. Delivery was timely. Easy transaction! A++++++++
Don Quixote.......2006-09-14
Back in High School my band leader, Mr. DeYoung, decided (agianst much opposition from those of us in the band let me tell you) to have us perform select pieces from this musical
I hated the idea. But when we began to play, he even had us watch the musical, I fell in love with the melody. The many songs of a man who believes the best in the world. YOu find that in Dulcinea, The Impossible Dream, etc.
From one maginificently rendered song to another, you can be lost in its melodic elegance.
My favorite song is the initial rendition of 'Little Bird, Little Bird'. It's a soft song, sung as a love ballad. In the musical you discover it's being sung to a local whore by a bunch of randy men. Despite that, I still like it.
This along with others are among the great works of the stage!
Magnificent voices.......2006-07-05
Voices and music make a revival of this beautiful play. Full of passion.

Although it's based on the 1967 movie of the same name, Thoroughly Modern Millie is almost thoroughly new. Composer Jeanine Tesori (Violet) and lyricist Dick Scanlan wrote a whole batch of songs, while retaining a couple from the movie--including the Jimmy van Heusen-Sammy Cahn title tune--and recycling even older material (look for Victor Herbert's "I'm Falling in Love with Someone" and the inventively arranged "Nuttycracker Suite"). Miraculously, the show, set during the jazz age, doesn't feel stitched together, and Tesori does a great job cranking out swinging melodies. Sutton Foster is appropriately brassy as Millie, but she can also tone it down, as in the beginning of "Gimme Gimme" (of course, she then proceeds to project up to the last rafters as the song builds to its climax). Harriet Harris, as nasty Mrs. Meers, steals the show with "They Don't Know." Close your eyes, listen to her, and you'll be back in Broadway's golden age. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Excellent Musical, But Product Quality - Eh.......2007-07-15
I absolutely love the musical so I'm thrilled with the cd.
My problem was not with the quality of the cd, but with the plastic case. The cd cases always come cracked. Although it doesn't affect the quality of the cd itself, it's rather disheartening that Amazon charges customers for its poor shipping.

This is an AMAZING musical and great album. It is sure to jazz-up any music collection! BUY THIS ALBUM NOW!
A must to add to your collection.......2007-05-18
I was very fortunate enough to see this on Broadway. It was one of the best shows I've ever seen! The music has just enough jazz and contemporary vive that any musical lover would enjoy! It's also got tapping in it! Sutton is simply awesome in this role and all of the cast can really belt out their songs. Harriet Harris is phenominal in her role as Mrs. Meers. I highly recommend this to all broadway lovers! It's one to add to your collection!
Delightful.......2006-06-12
The music takes a little bit to grow on you, but boy, does it! It's wonderful, charming, romantic, funny--just like the play itself. I loved almost every song and I was really impressed with "Long As I'm Here With You"-- I thought it was an old song written back in the twenties, because it so sounded like one. The cast is absolutely energetic and endearing, and Sutton Foster just *rocks*. Definitely worth the money.
YOU WILL LOVE IT.......2006-02-17
If you like musicals, you will NOT REGRET purchasing this musical soundtrack. JUST DO IT. It's so great, you will be listening to it forever. I also saw the show at the Kennedy Center in D.C. and it's one of the best I've ever seen. (And I've seen A LOT.)
Have Fun!

The early-'60s pop group The Wonders never existed outside of That Thing You Do, Tom Hanks' feature-film directorial debut--but a lot of bands like them sure did. If you've seen the movie, I defy you to resist the title song--a perfect pop confection that captures the musical spirit of the era (and the high spirits of the movie) with cleverness and glee. (The deadpan "historical" liner notes are priceless.) The first song, "Lovin' You Lots and Lots" (written by Hanks himself) is a hilariously awful example of the insipid "grown-up" pop Muzak of the mid-'60s (performed by the Ray Coniff-like "Norm Wooster Singers"), but the element of parody in these tracks is suffused with affection. And, dammit, these are some really catchy toe-tappers! In addition to some other Wonders hits (not the least of which is "Shrimp Shack," from their first movie appearance in Weekend at Party Pier), there's also a girl-group single ("Hold My Hand, Hold My Heart" by the Chantrellines); a teen hearbreak anthem ("My World is Over" by Diane Dane); "one of the seminal jazz recordings of 1958" ("Time To Blow," by Del Paxton) ... and much, much more! --Jim Emerson
Customer Reviews:
Tom Hanks Nails It.......2007-07-21
As a movie, "That Thing You Do" perfectly captured the sheer joy and excitement of having a hit record in the mid-60's . . . even if you turn out to be just a one hit wonder. As a soundtrack, Tom Hanks absolutely nails the sound of what it was like to listen to Top 40 radio in the mid-60's. Years back, the title track turned me on to Fountains of Wayne . . . and that is sinful pleasure on its own! There are great tunes throughout by The Wonders and the other stars of the Play-Tone Records Galaxy . . . "Hold My Hand, Hold My Heart", "I Need You", "Dance With Me Tonight". Go ahead, buy the soundtrack. Slap it in your car's CD player, crank up the volume, open the sun roof and cruise on down the highway. You'll be transported back in time and, believe me, you won't regret it!
Brings back memories.......2007-06-27
I didn't see this movie until recently, even though it had been out for some time. We TIVO'D it because we thought it might be fun to watch. What a really great story full of good acting, and really super new music that very much captures the sound and spirit of early 60's pop/rock. I went right out and ordered the soundtrack because I loved the music so much. It was the sound I loved and it was new music, nobody writes music that has this 60's sound and lyrics anymore. Its a fun trip back to a different time, before Vietnam, drugs, and politics stripped all of the innocence away. I would recommend it!
Great Soundtrack.......2007-06-27
This is a great CD! The music is wonderful and the movie is just fantastic! Check it out. Very pleasantly surprising!
Great 60's songs written in the 90's!.......2007-05-28
This is a terrific companion piece to the movie. If you loved the music of the sixties then you will surely enjoy this cd. Tom Hanks is credited with helping to write several of the songs and he does a wonderful job, as do all the songwriters, of capturing the variety and spirit of 60's music. I listen to this when I don't have time to watch the movie and need something to lift my spirits. Besides the title track, Dance With Me Tonight is my favorite song with Hold My Hand Hold My Heart a very close third.
Great Movie ! Great Soundtrack !.......2007-05-13
If you like songs from early 60's you will enjoy this CD!
It's impossible to disconnect the movie from the songs !
Remember the great times !

This new version of the Fiddler on the Roof soundtrack coincides with the movie's 30th anniversary (which is also celebrated by a special edition DVD). The CD is notable for several instrumental tracks by John Williams, as well as for "Any Day Now," a previously unreleased song performed by Perchik/Paul Michael Glaser (better known for his starring role in TV's Starsky and Hutch). The soundtrack is often compared unfavorably with the original 1964 cast album, in which Zero Mostel played the part of Tevye (here performed by Topol, who had been in the 1967 London production). But this CD has a lot going for it, including glossy remastering and, of course, Isaac Stern as the fiddler. In the end, whatever version you decide to pick up, Fiddler remains one of the most enduring musicals of all time. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

Topol is best as the Papa.......2007-07-15
I have other versions of CDs of "The Fiddler of the Roof" but Topol is the best and this is one of the best CDs with Topol. As far as "The Fiddler On the Roof" goes, that is a thumbs up 5 star anytime story and songs.
Love it.......2007-05-16
I had looked everywhere for this CD. I am so happy to have found the "real" Fiddler on the Roof!
CP as Grandmother Tzeitel.......2007-03-30
At first, I thought this musical was weird but then I grew to like it. It has a sad ending but the thems in the movie are really interesting. Life really is like being a fiddler on the roof. In a musical coming up at my school, I am playign the part of Grandmother Tzeitel in Tevye's dream. I am excited to play the part and I think our musical will go very well!
Never Ending Joy!.......2006-11-22
The music from Fiddler on the Roof is exciting, fun, interesting and funny! This CD is mixed with humor, music from different cultures and a wide mix of different songs. Each song is so different that I can listen to it for hours. I was surprised how enjoyable and pleasent it really is. Although...it is easy to get this music stuck in your head!

What are legends if not for reinventing -- and/or hyper-inflating into Hollywood summer fare? In retooling the Arthurian legend for the goth-beguiled video game age, mega-producer Jerry Bruckheimer did away with details small (the lady in the lake, sword in the stone, etc.) and large (this Arthur is actually Eastern European, by way of Rome). Composer Hans Zimmer picks up that gauntlet, producing an orchestral score bristling with massed brass, chorus and percussion -- if little of the indigenous mysticism that made his work on Gladiator/ so rewarding. What there is of that precious commodity is frontloaded via the song "Tell Me Know (What You See)," his evocative opening collaboration with Clannad's Moya Brennan. From there, Zimmer emphasized this version's Eastern conceits with a half-dozen suites of cues that thunder in the Russian classical tradition -- and all the melodic range of "Jingle Bells." Zimmer--not to mention Poledouris--has done it better, but fans of outsized orchestral Gothic moodfests may yet take this one to heart. --Jerry McCulley

We Will Go Home.......2007-07-13
Does this soundtrack include "We Will Go Home," the song Vorna sings to the men in the bar before they find out about their new mission?
Good music.......2007-05-16
I'm a huge Hans Zimmer fan, his scores are rich and deep. This is not his best, but it's still a great listen.
Want to hear Gladiator II?.......2007-04-12
In the end, this is the only relevant question; do you want to hear a more melodramatic version of Gladiator? More melodramatic, you ask?
And you better believe it, Hans Zimmer actually managed to blow up his sound from Gladiator even more, and I really didn't think this was possible, mainly because I thought it would sound utterly pathetic and over the top. And make no mistake, Zimmer's King Arthur is just that.
I am reviewing this score in retrospect, and it is truly fascinating to do that. When you look at other composers and make a little journey to their past, you usually find more creativity. The further back you go, the more original and fresh music you find. With Hans Zimmer, it's the opposite. With each year you go back, his scores just get more dreary, and that's saying alot because his latest works also don't really qualify as schoolbook examples for colourful scoring.
From Gladiator to Pirates Of The Caribbean 2, Hans Zimmer has yet to come forth with a truly fresh and unique score. Zimmer never, ever, not in a million years, escapes his usual box. And King Arthur is no exception whatsoever. From the get go, 20 horns are amassed and play a overly simplistic motif somewhere between a and A, the strings mush together in midrange, melodramatic chords, and dwell in the shallow realm of overbearing dullness.
I don't understand how an artist - and the art of film composing is severely underrated - can be content with repeating the same thing over and over. If I were Hans Zimmer, I would be embarassed by now to even write one more note for that droning bass.
To top it all off, Zimmer incorporates an Enyaesque voice that is easy on the ears, but in the end signifies nothing, does nothing and does all that with an amazing lack of substance.
That is, amongst others, the major difference between a serious film composer and Hans Zimmer: a good and skillful film composer takes an average film like King Arthur and makes it sound like something worthwhile. Hans Zimmer on the other hand embraces mediocrity and underlines it to create an even more average film.
King Arthur.......2007-04-09
I recently purchased this particular soundtrack, and i would have to say it is awesome. Hans Zimmer is a master at what he does. The music suits the film and since I loved the film I had to get the soundtrack. I loved the song Tell Me Now by Moya Brennan, and Another Brick in Hadrians Wall is the best song im my opinion on the soundtrack. Overall I'm so glad I bought this soundtrack and I rate it up there with the likes of Gladiator, Pirates of the Carribean. Keep up the good work Hans
Hans' Best.......2007-03-12
Hans Zimmer is a film composer with dozens and dozens of scores under his belt. Many who do not collect or even listen to film scores know his name. However, much if his film music sounds very similar and lacks a complex edge that other compose like John Williams, James Horner, and James Newton Howard deliver.
That said, King Arthur is Hans' most intriguing score to date. Backdraft and Gladiator (overrated) were very good, but this score is a departure from Hans' usual motifs. The only bad part for me(not related to the music itself) is that there are only seven tracks and each are very long. I like shorter tracks so I can pinpoint the themes or variations I want to lsiten to, but this is extremely minor. The music is great, and I reccommend you go enjoy Hans' best music yet.

Based on Nicholas Sparks' novel, director Nick Cassavetes film spins the bittersweet tale of a 60-year romance, as seen from the polar perspectives of its promising youth and the travails of an old age cursed by Alzheimer's. Its soundtrack effectively echoes those polar dramatic concerns, with composer Aaron Zigler's gentle orchestral score largely giving voice to the character's melancholy present, while a rich, well-chosen slate of vintage material by Billie Holiday, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller imparts a restless energy to their youth. There's a certain schmaltz to much of Zigman's work here, yet cues like "House Blues/The Porch Dance.." and "Noah's Journey" argue he's achieved something more elusive than mere melodramatic wallpaper with the deceivingly difficult task at hand; it can't be easy to have your work seasoned with the likes of Ellington's sassy "Alabamy Home" and Goodman's still-vibrant "One O'Clock Jump." Sharply contrasting versions of "I'll Be Seeing You" by Holiday and Jimmy Durante bookend the soundtrack, perfectly evoking the story's alternating shades of hope and fading nostalgia and framing Zigman's understated work in the bargain. --Jerry McCulley
Album Description
Based on the best selling novel by Nicholas Sparks ("A Walk To Remember", "Message In A Bottle"), "The Notebook" is the story of Noah and Allie, teenage lovers torn apart by WWII and Allie's parents' demands to marry a respectable lawyer. After 14 years apart, they meet again and rekindle their true love. Starring Ryan Gosling, Rachel McAdams, James Garner, and Gena Rowlands. The soundtrack is a propelling force. In addition to classic WWII era pieces, Aaron Zigman's score suites enhance the record with beautifully dramatic themes. Score performed by the Hollywood Studio Symphony.

Touching.......2007-07-04
There isn't much I can say about this beautiful movie, except that it was so touching!
It say's go for the "true love", settle for nothing else no matter what may be in store, because love that is "true" and as beautiful as their's was, is a rare thing!
I absolutely loved the ending.
I also loved that a movie CAN be truly wonderful, beautiful and touching WITHOUT grafic "sex scenes!" Also sadly a rare thing in movies today.
Ever seen "Hanover Street?" Equally beautiful. No SEX scenes either!

Pays music a complement. I love the classical pieces!.......2007-05-27
I do not have the soundtrack to The Notebook, but I do have the movie itself. Having said that, every song is wonderful. Some music carries with it, a wealth of emotion and a sense of timelessness. I love all of the classical pieces , perhaps the best, in this particular movie. Classical has never been my speed when it comes down to music, but something about this movie's classical masterpieces struck a chord in me...made me smile and maybe even sniffle a bit. If you are a fan of the movie, I'm sure you would love its soundtrack too. Music like this is ideal for a romantic evening or just for pleasure listening. You don't know if you'll like something until you give it a chance! So give this a chance!!
the Notebook soundtrack (Audio CD).......2007-05-13
This is a beautiful collection of music from the movie, The Notebook. Most is instrumental, very relaxing, as well as lively at times. Two renditions of "I'll Be Seeing You" are included.
Very Nice.......2007-03-30
I really enjoyed listening to the soundtrack, but I'm also a big fan of background music and this cd was great for both. Listening to the cd took me back to the movie and reminded me how much I enjoyed it, but I also put the cd on during a nice meal with friends and it worked out very well, they all enjoyed the music.
A sweeping, emotional standout!.......2007-01-11
The music from The Notebook brings you right back to the film, capturing your heart and soul. It's music will roll live waves through your soul and bring you from nostalgia to your own feelings of love and desire. The selections, arrangements and orchestrations are to be admired, and Mr. Zigman is to be praised. This soundtrack truly completes the legacy of "The Notebook".

Typically, we're better off ignoring the boasts of a rapper who claims to describe his own music, but when the Roots' lead voice Black Thought opens up his group's debut album by saying, "You are all about to witness some organic hip-hop jazz," it's a good idea to listen up. Organic is a fitting adjective for a hip-hop crew whose m.o. is as different from the typical studio-locked DJ/MC combo as grass is to Astroturf.
Nothing wrong with a little artificial grazeland, of course, but the Roots are making tasty roughage that blooms into real songs, where raps wind around bass, drums, keys, and horns, and where instruments coil up to voice cadences--where music and lyrics meet and grow together naturally, not coincidentally. You can hear the Roots' heart pump hardest when they pull off the things loops and samples cannot: just check the vocal/instrument interchanges of "Essaywhuman?!!!??!" or the left-turn instrumental digression midway through "Mellow My Man" to witness the living sounds of rap.
The Roots' Philadelphia-based groove collective build slick acid jazz playing around the smooth East Coast rhyming of A Tribe Called Quest and wild West Coast freestyling to create sounds as formless and fluid as jazz, but never unrecognizable as hip-hop. The music picks up where the mad scatting and melodic trills of L.A.'s defunct Freestyle Fellowship left off, and wakes up the tired hype of jazz/rap cross-polination to new possibilities. The roots of this kind of fusion have long been around, though perhaps these Roots are hope for a new dawning. --Roni Sarig

I Do Want More!!??!!?!.......2007-07-21
I bought this the day it came out, like it states on the page, January 17, 1995. I was 16. I played this everywhere. School, parties, chillin' in the car. This was the tipping point for any rap that year. 1995, don't get me wrong, was THE year for hip-hop; East/West rivalry, every artist battling out to who is the best, when being the best, was what it was all about.
This is the second album of THE ROOTS, the first being ORGANIX. Which was also a dope album. But for any album produced that year, that is the one people can say," Hey remember Do You Want More!!??!!?!" Everyone will remember.
Proceed, was on everyones stereos, or t.v. and it is the one song, that if I were stranded on a desert Island, I would have with me, because I could not be able to stop listening to it.
As the tracks go...they are all great, but my DOPE TRACKS are...
1. Intro/There's Something Goin' On
2. Proceed DOPE TRACK
3. Distortion To Static DOPE TRACK
4. Mellow My Man DOPE TRACK
5. I Remain Calm
6. Datskat DOPE TRACK
7. Lazy Afternoon DOPE TRACK
8. ? Vs. Rahzel
9. Do You Want More?!!!??! DOPE TRACK
10. What Goes On Pt. 7
11. Essaywhuman?!!!??!
12. Swept Away
13. You Ain't Fly DOPE TRACK
14. Silent Treatment
15. The Lesson Pt. 1
16. The Unlocking
I see it as this is their best, then Illadelph Halflife, then Things Fall Apart, then Organix, then the rest just kinda loop together.
Anyway Peace.
One of my favorites.......2007-03-29
I love this group. I love the jazz infused hip hop verses. If you're looking for something mellow with a little edge, then this is the CD for you.
Pretty good.......2006-11-16
As a musician, DJ and a hip hop afficianado, I enjoy listening to these guys. Tariq is a top-shelf, A-class lyricist, while Amhir is wondrous on the percussion. My complaint with this album is the same as my complaint with the first one, Organix. It just doesn't grab me like the rest of the catalog does. To me it seems as though they are still finding themselves creatively. There some excellent tracks here (e.g. Distortion to Static, Silent Treatment) but the coherence isn't quite there. That said, this is STILL a necessary part of the collection, as it offers itself as a prelude to their excellence in the years to come.
"Yo Philly In The House Yall, Do You Want More?!!!??! (4.5 stars).......2006-05-31
This was the second album that I picked up from The Roots (the first was The Tipping Point) and it has to be a real nice album to enjoy from beginning to end. It sounds like that they are at a live secession when recording this, with the instruments and the vocals. The second song gets the album going with the lead single "Proceed I" (There are about 5 different versions of this song on a bunch of 12" singles somewhere) as lead member Black Thought spits two verses, then Malik B finishes up the song. "Distortion To Static" is a song that features a bunch of laughter as the background vocals as the chorus. A standout track would be the song "Mellow My Man" as Black Thought passes the mic to Malik B on both verses. "I Remain Calm" is a loud track with drums. I couldn't decipher what the woman was saying in the back until a previous reviewer said she was saying "What the hell is this?", but Malik B and Black Thought come correct on this one. "Lazy Afternoon" as many people should have realized Black Though spits the same verse 3 times, each with a little more attitude than the previous. Rahzel would do his thing on the interlude "? vs. Rahzel". Another hot track is the title song "Do You Want More?!!!??!" as Black Thought rhymes over some bagpipes and drums that are played throughout the song. My only knock on this song is that Black Thought spits one solid verse and the track closes out with the title repeated with a few ad-libs. I was hoping he or Malik B would add another verse to the song. "What Goes On Part 7" is another laid back Roots style track with some tounge clicking curteosy of Rahzel. "Essaywhumam?!!!??!" gives me a somewhat of a confirmation that this was a live secession being recorded as instruments play and Black Thought handles the vocals, eventhough he doesn't rap. "Swept Away" is a song with a with a snare being played with a soft horn being played through the song, making it another standout. "You Ain't Fly" is a song about dissing some girl that rejected them, and yes ?uestion (now ?uestlove) raps on this song too, so its something worth hearing. "Silent Treatment" is a long song by Black Thought about a female that he liked (The group City High would sample this for that hit song "Carmel" about 4 years ago), as the music gives a relaxing feel. The listener should get out of that relaxed mode as the next track "The Lesson Part 1" as Black Thought and Dice Raw freestyle the entire track (Dice goes on for a good minute). Ursela Rucker would come by and drop a spoken word poem, that you have to listen real hard to understand what shes [really] saying other than the graphic words. I like it, because its somethig different that I've never heard on a hip hop album (whats funny is that Yvette's cell rings interrupting the poem somewhere in the middle). A great way to close the album off with something like this (I don't know and won't get into what the heck Rahzel does after the long silence following the spoken word.)
Overall this is a nice album, and a great experience to listeners to those who like hip hop with the help of live instruments. My only knock is that some songs they can give me a headache such as "Daskat" because of its loudness, but it doesn't take away from the album. I recommend this to all fans of Hip Hop, fans of live music and fans of the Roots, you can't go wrong.

The Roots - Do You Want More?!!!??!.......2006-05-27
The Roots sophomore album was "Do You Want More?!!!??!". I recieved this album as a gift when it dropped in 1995, and at the time it was an introduction to a whole new genre of Rap I was unfamiliar with. I remember thinking "So this is what Philly Rap sounds like", its far from that simple though, the Roots brought a unique, distinct sound with this live album. After the intro, Black Thought and Malik B shine on "Proceed", a head nodder that has both MC's shining. "Mellow My Man", "I Remain Calm" & "Datzcat" are upbeat cut's where Black Thought and Malik B drop some abstract rhymes. The albums biggest collaboration is "Lazy Afternoon" which features Black Thought, Rahzel, Sista Urban & Rachel Graham. ?uestlove, Rahzel go head to head with the experimental and cool beatboxing "? Vs. Rahzel". Black Thought reps Philly and other cities on the title track "Do You Want More?!!!??!". Backed by some smooth production, and tongue clicking Black Thought, Malik B and Elo team up for "What Goes On Pt. 7". One of my favourite cuts on this release is "Swept Away", this track literally does that as Black Thought, Malik and Cassandra Wilson provide a smooth and memorable joint. Black Thought reflects on getting the "Silent Treatment", and Dice Raw makes his first appearance with "The Lesson Part 1". Ursula Rucker's spoken word poetry on "The Unlocking" closes off the album. Lyrically the Roots would elevate on future joints, production though was excellent. Experimental, creative, jazzy and memorable music makes "Do You Want More?!!!??!" an album worth checking out. Root's fan's can also look forward to "Game Theory" currently scheduled to drop in late August 2006. 3.5.

Oklahoma singer Toby Keith is neither a remarkable singer nor songwriter. Yet in his more inspired and focused moments on his sixth studio album--his first for DreamWorks--Keith does occasionally manage to transcend his journeyman's limitations and achieve a sort of workaday eloquence. On patchily conceived and executed songs like the self-written "Die with Your Boots On" and a pointless ditty called "Country Comes to Town," even Keith's hard-edged baritone swaggering over flashy, high-voltage arrangements can disguise the basic lack of musical substance and creative vision. Yet on "Heart to Heart," a tender song Keith wrote for his young son, and an exquisite story song called "New Orleans," Keith surprises by turning in heartfelt, impassioned performances that transcend the general ordinariness that is otherwise the order of the day. --Bob Allen
Customer Reviews:
What music background does your reviewer have???.......2006-02-16
Your reviewer, Bob Allen, who I believe has reviewed some other of Toby Keith's albums previously, must have a tin ear and has never written a song in his life. Saying Keith is neither a "remarkable singer nor songwriter" is ludicrous. He also refers to him as a "journeyman." Keith has been writing songs and singing them for more than 30 years. Obviously Allen has no liking nor appreciation for country music; he'd be better writing reviews for cook books. Those who know - really know - country music consider him a master songwriter and the voice is magic, whether he is singing a love ballad or one of his "in your face" songs that have a meaning for those who have lived, loved, laughed, and cried in our lifetime. He has paid his dues in his lifetime with his music and songwriting, being shifted from label to label because of the Nashville exercise of label taking over another label. But the people who have known him have gone to bat for him and he has never forgotten that. He finally has the following and the clout to start his own record label. He did it "his way" but without stepping on the people who helped him along the way. Those folks are still with him. I just happen to own every album he ever cut and there isn't anything on any of them I don't like. Over the years, I can hear the differences in his voice - always great - but now coming of age. Unlike many artists, he writes or co-writes 85% or more of his songs. I give this album 5 stars, just like I'd give 5 stars to all his albums to date. Bob Allen - Check out cut 10 "The Critic" on Toby's "Shock'n Y'all." Sounds familiar to me!! Sydney in San Antonio
Slower, but still a GREAT cd.......2005-11-29
This cd is a little slower overall than we're used to from Toby, but still definitely a great cd.
I have several favorites on this cd, and I guarantee you will too.
One of the Best country cd's. WRITTEN BY A NON COUNTRY FAN!.......2005-01-10
This and Tim McGraw's Set This Circus Down are the best 2 country cd's released EVER!
Here is why:
How Do You Like Me Now: Great song with some funny lyrics. A good song that all of us wish we could apply to that beautiful girl from school when she turns out to be a stay at home fat ugly joke, and we turn out to be successful, rich and desirable.
When Love Fades: THE BEST SONG HE HAS EVER DONE! HANDS DOWN. NO CONTEST! Some of the best "Relationship is ending" lyrics that have EVER been written.
"Going through the motions,
pretending to be,
The man you used to see in me.
Dont wanna hurt me,
so you play along,
and it dont feel right and it dont feel wrong.
It just like a memory,
barely alive,
when will we let it die.
Who'll be the one
To say goodbye
Who'll be the one to stay
When Love Fades
Simply brilliant! The dual vocals with himself towards the end are especially great. WHY IN THE WORLD it wasnt released as a single is beyond me. This would have been an EASY #1 HIT!
Blue Bedroom: Not a slow song but a heavier type lost love song. One of those: "I lost you and i miss you and come back home" songs. Totally throws you off being sequenced right after When love fades which was a "I know its over, lets break up" kind of song. good nonetheless!
New Orleans: A story song in the same type as a Jim Croce or Harry Chapin type of story song. About a woman and man who get together. She fled a bad relationship in New Orleans and how she is getting on with her life. GREAT TUNE!
Country Comes to Town: One of the huge hits this album produced! Strange to hear a horn section in a country song but it works and VERY WELL!
Heart To Heart (Stelen's Song): Stelen is Toby's son. A nice poignant tale about how children are or can be with their parents.
She Only Gets That Way With Me: Kinda like my ex-wife, she only gets THAT way with me. Well, except with her other exes. Who get THAT way RIGHT BACK AT HER! This is a good song but my stupid joke may not be representative with what this song is about.
Die With Your Boots On: One of the weaker tracks, for a non-country fan (or someone who likes a small amount of country songs. This sounds modern with an old time country topic.
You Shouldnt Kiss Me Like This: Another of the hits. To me a ballad is not a country song, just like it isnt a rock song or anything like that. The only evidence of country in this love song is the twang to his voice, if even that.
Hold You Kiss you Love You: I love the beat to this one. For when you get that lustful feeling with the one you love.
Bottom Of My Heart (do i know you): A sad lost love type of song, and a very good one at that!
I Know A Wall When I See One: Ever date someone who got away and you wish you hadn't let that happen? Then this is your song!
This album is under 40 minutes which is a shame but it is a FANTASTIC, PHENOMINAL ALBUM!
How do you like Toby now?.......2004-07-30
"How Do You Like Me Now" is the song that first captured my attention and got me to buy this CD. From the upbeat songs to the ballads, Toby knows how to draw a listener into his world. The emotions on the ballads come thru, the fun he is having on the upbeat songs come thru, you can't lose.
Who's That Man?.......2004-05-18
I started liking Toby when I would hear a song I liked, and would wonder, who's that man? They all turned out to be him.
I choose this CD because of How Do You Like Me Now?!, a song we can all relate to about rejection turning around, but I soon fell in love with You Shouldn't Kiss Me Like This, When Love Fades and Blue Bedroom, where he shows his emotional, sentimental side. I Know A Wall When I See One is the kind of song you can't get out of your head, as is the good-natured Country Comes to Town.
Toby is a talented songwriter, has an excellent voice, and is full of emotion, humour and fun, and I can honestly say there is not one song on this CD I don't like. The perfect start or edition to any Toby collection.
