Juicy Fruit.......2006-03-27
I like Mtume a lot, but the best thing about this album is the title song.
"Juicy Fruit" contender for lamest song, ever.......2005-12-15
I'm not sure whether to give this thing one or five stars. Juicy Fruit is a strong contender for the lamest song, ever, in the history of the universe. Even from the introduction, you know you're in for a really bad 6 minutes...so bad, it's good.
From the retarded drumbeat, to the schizophrenic baseline, to the half-cooked lyrics (juicyyyyyyyyy!), this is by far one of the worst songs I've ever heard. It makes me go into hysterics every time I hear it. You know what? I think everyone should go and listen to this song, it's beyond hilarious.
Best appreciated while stoned. Love, the great big green pony in the sky.
Another 80's Classic .......2004-12-23
This album is another jem that every funk lover (Like Me) should have. All the songs on this album are good dance music. If you love funk from the 80's you'll love this album.
Still a classic! Shows James Mtume at his peak!.......2004-09-30
James Mtume's group Mtume made a solid album in Juicy Fruit! Even in the same year that Michael Jackson dominated the music charts, this album exploded and had some funky songs too! One of my favorites on this album is Ready for Your Love. Sexy, funky, percolating groove, with Tawatha Agee sounding so soulful on this song. Mary J. Blige needs to do a remake of this song soon. Hip Dip Skipped A Beat is just as hot and Would You Like to Fool Around as well as Green Light are also funky. I don't think that the next two albums they did, could match this one--this was their funkiest album! Still one of the classic '80s albums--and it's finally on CD!
A Very Pleasant *Funk* Album.......2004-04-30
I think "Juicy Fruit" so dominates over the rest of the album that many people would be dissapointed if they expect songs of similar flavor; I know I was one of them. While "Juicy Fruit" is very chic, shophisticated track, the rest of the cuts are very funky all the way. Now that I have developed an appreciation for funk music, however, the rest of tracks became also very listenable to me. There are a bunch of above-average electronic funk of early-'80s in this album.
Having said that, nothing really comes close to "Juicy Fruit," not because the rest sucks but because "Juicy Fruit" is one of those special songs that can totally convey the color and flavor of the musical style in the specific period in time.
If you are not interested in electronic funk of early-'80s, pass up this album; "Juicy Fruit" can be heard elsewhere in compilation albums.

HIT or MISS with this one.......2007-04-13
Robbie Rivera's style is hard and to the point. He doesn't beat around the bush at all. He gives the listener half way decent mixing and lots of energy. This CD is actually my first Robbie Rivera CD so I am not writing a review based on his evolution, but instead, the vibes that I got from this CD only. I decided to purchase this after I had seen his songs on several other DJs compilations. Each song on the CD is a hit or miss. It's either golden or garbage.
Positives = He has several hits on here that are definately bound for clubs everywhere such as "Get Wild", "I stand alone", and my favorite "I want satisfaction" which drops a ridiculous bassline that is totally out of the norm when it comes to bass hits, but it grabs hold of you and doesn't let go. A few nice vocals on here are good such as replay the night. I actually heard a replay the night remix on matt darey's international radio show on XM radio that was definately not nearly as good as Robbie's mix.
Negatives = Some of his songs are bursting with creativity, and others are totally lacking. He uses too many word fillers where he tries to use 4 words as a lyric. That was cool 3 or 4 years ago. Some instrumentals are just annoying and his overuse of the gradual increase of frequencies is irritating.
Overall = I would recommend this CD for someone that loves energy music. It's actually hard to find CDs that have lots of energy as DJs usually reserve that music for live shows. So this mix can be refreshing for many people. For everyone else, if you can find the gems on itunes instead, please do so.
COULD BE BETTER..........2007-03-22
Robbie hits it with great tracks once in a while. But his consistency in maintaining a great CD is not too great. Buy a couple of the tracks on itunes, but go somewhere else for a great overall CD...He is great, but this CD is not...
A true feel for the Robbie experiance.......2006-05-05
Robbie opens up with an attractive acapello intro, and the energy immediatly hits you. Although the lyrics may be simple they are nothing less then catchy.
Juicy Miami is an album that showcases an array of diffrent facits of Robbie's remixes. He incorperates many diffrent genres in to his own unique style of music. Robbie's fierce beats make it the perfect CD for any mood. The energy and freshness of Robbie's sound will do more then satisfy you. This is a great way to introduce you to Robbie's crazy "beat- driven world."
my reviewer Yuri wasn't feeling this CD at all..........2006-04-13
Yuri actually gave it 1.5 stars in his djfix.com/raves.com review: "There's a delicate balance between aging gracefully, staying young at heart and growing as an artist. DJ and producer Robbie Rivera tips the scales on Juicy Miami, an overweight, overwrought and over-the-top double CD of tribal thunder, hard house and big-room cheese. It's sort of frustrating because Rivera's been at this so long, it would have been nice to see some kind of evolution to his sound. Success, however, often depends on formula. Over the years he's been solicited to perform remixes for pop acts like Madonna, Ricky Martin and Kylie, and more underground ones like Funky Green Dogs, Moloko and Faithless, the foil is that they're all sort of getting the same blurry, indistinct treatment. A Rivera remix, or production, never seems to deviate from being big and banging and, as a result, sort of boring, too. This is the story of Juicy Miami, named for Rivera's label and hometown, rife with his original productions and remixes of artists like Steve Smooth, DJ Rooster & Sammy Peralta and Mixin Marc & Alex Peace (with the truly annoying synth line and vocals on "Frequency" - "the frequency is out of control ..." Boo!). A few years ago, A DJ's filling up a mix compilation with their own tunes and custom edits might have been a novelty. Since then, however, every DJ and their dog's been doing it. That he can fill a mix with his own tunes is sort of admirable. That his productions always end up being so one-note is not. In short, Juicy Miami is old and tired, no matter how many beats per minute included in Rivera's unrelenting approach might otherwise seem to dictate."
Juicy Miami brings on the heat!.......2006-03-18
Best Robbie CD to date. He is progressing like a madman. After seeing one of his shows I had to get this CD. It is very good.

super euro hit.......2004-08-24
I was DJing at a big club in Italy when this hit. It was one of the biggest hits that summer. Very bouncy sudo-house tune. The words are some what silly, but the bass line and hooks are on target. If you have not heard it, give it a spin.
Funky Techno with a Retro Flava.......2004-04-18
I was first introduced to this song was when I was watching season one of the showtime series Queer As Folk. In episode 18 Scene 5, Brian Kenny enters the bathhouse looking for a little action, and ends up unexpectedly running into Dr Dave(Michael Novatney's beau) Uh oh!.. Will Brian tell his best Friend Michael that Dr Dave is being unfaithful? Or will Dr Dave come clean? The song is a perfect for this particular scene, and had me wanting to know who sang it.
LOVE IT!.......2000-02-10
The first time I heard this song I was on the floor laughing.... great beat and great lyrics too..
This song ROCKS!.......2000-01-26
When I hear this song at a club I can't just help but dance! This is the ultimate dance song for people who love to have fun and let loose!
Smashing!.......2000-01-24
An excellent choice in music. In albuquerque, New Mexico, we listen to this song at the Club called "The PULSE". It is a song you can dance to and get freaky and wild. I do suggest this track if you are into the club scene. And if you love to dance with beats that make you going for hours, go right ahead and play this track on your stereo.
