This is her best.......2007-03-02
Although Jody Watley has released several albums, this is her best. This album still captures her when she was young, hip, and fresh in her sounds and rhythm. "Looking For A New Love" blasted the charts for a while, particularly on TV, where videos started to take off in the mid '80's. "Some Kind Of Lover" was also popular on the radio as well, and "Do It To The Beat" was an underexposed hit. My favorite on this release is "Most Of All", which is a track caught in between up-tempo and slow jam. It has a nice, mellow beat, accompanied by Jody's typical sweet voice. There are several hits on this album that you'll easily recognize, if you've listened to Jody Watley before, and even some of the more obscure ones are catchy as well.
Superb singer :-).......2006-03-26
Jody has always been one of my favourite singers and I think I own practically every cd of hers. She has a beautiful, soft voice and is good singing both ballads and more uptempo songs. She isn't as vocally powerful as a Mariah or a Heather, but her voice is strong where it needs to be and smooth and soft at other times. Some Kind Of Lover, Don't You Want Me and Looking For A New Love are the best cuts on here. I think the majority of her music has a better sound than a lot of today's female R&B artists - I just love that late late 80's to early 90's music and this cd encompases that era really well and I still love listening to this cd even now. To me it's timeless and if you are a fan of cool and smooth R&B then you should definately go get this.
needs more credit.......2005-12-31
she was like another janet jackson in many ways and even worked with prince proteges on this album. The hit singles are masterpieces and so were the songs on her sophomore album I remember real love being all over the place. Her first 2 albums are just as great as janet's control and rhythm nation.
R&B dance classic for the 80's.......2005-07-06
Vocally, while Jody Watley was no Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey, this former member of Shalamar did hold her own, at least on her first two albums with some dance-soul music. And with a slender and slinky bod and that mane of hair cascading down her back, she had some style as well. Her debut single, "Looking For A New Love," mixes funky beats with keyboards set to a steady beat, as well as some male grunts keeping time with the beat. It stalled at #2 for four weeks, kept out by Cutting Crew's "I Just Died In Your Arms Tonight" and U2's "With or Without You." It did peak on the R&B charts, staying there for 3 weeks. The extended club mix here
While her second single, "Still A Thrill," only made it to #56, it showcases Watley's lower registers, smoky and sensuous, with a funky bass and a Prince-like guitar, kind of like in "U Got The Look," to match that tone. The Prince-like sound is due to majority of the songs here, including this one, being co-produced by Andre Cymone, who was Prince's boyhood friend and first bassist through the Dirty Mind album. With the exception of the sax, Cymone seems to have inherited Prince's penchant for doing all the instruments per the For You album.
The versions of "Don't You Want Me" and "Some Kind of Lover," which respectively went to #6 and #10, are not the radio mixes, which didn't sit with me well. Personally, I preferred the original album versions here. There's some similarity to some of Madonna's early singles in the former, its pronounced bass an asset. The other single has a snap and danceable bite similar to "Into The Groove."
The final single, "Most of All," got to #60. This song was produced by Patrick Leonard, who was behind Madonna's True Blue album and did some production on the Dream Academy's Remembrance Days. This may explain why again it has a Madonna-like sound. An upbeat and danceable number that should've gotten Top Twenty at least.
Of the other songs, "Love Injection," like "Don't You Want Me," was produced by Bernard Edwards of Chic, with fellow Chic alumnus and Power Station member Tony Thompson on drums. Mid-paced, but with pronounced bass and some synths. And the perky "For The Girls" with its horn-like synths
And the bouncy funk of "Learn to Say No," her duet with George Michael, has a singleworthy quality, Watley's vocals nicely complementing Michael's when they trade lines in the bridge.
Jody Watley won Best New Artist at the Grammies as a result of this album. A consistent danceable sound permeates throughout this album, which makes it one of my favourite R&B/dance albums from the 80's. There's nothing filler here. All the songs could've been singles be it on the pop, R&B, or dance charts. Her sophomore album would sport similar sounds, but this time, a ballad. And so, per "Looking For A New Love," hasta la vista baby.
i love jody!!!!.......2005-04-01
"I'm lookin' for a new love, baby, a new love, yeah, yeah, yeah. Other guys will have me they'll appreciate my love tell me how does it feel? but now you're like the rest, unworthy of my best, hasta la vista baby!" What a great song! Some kind of lover,Don't you want me,and Most of all are good songs also. This album is definitely worth buying.

Product Description
'The Makeover' is the follow up to 2003's critically acclaimed Top 20 Electronic Release 'Midnight Lounge'. Dj inspired, ambient pop-tronic soul reworkings of pop classics including: Borderline, Love Hangover, Waiting in Vain, CHIC's 'I Want Your Love' among others, all anchored by stellar new compositions from this singer songwriter producer. Collaborators include: King Britt, 4Hero, DJ Spinna, Ron Trent, Mark de Clive Lowe (Verve Remixed), Chris Brann (Wamdue, P'Taah, Ananda Project).
Album Description
Jody Watley's ninth solo album, appropriately titled The Makeover, puts a pop-tronic spin and proverbial twist on the concept of "the cover record." The result is a groove-laden odyssey of fresh sounds that find the Grammy Award winning artist doing "makeovers" of contemporary classics such as Bob Marley's 'Waiting in Vain', Diana Ross' 'Love Hangover', Chic's 'I Want Your Love' and Madonna's 'Borderline' in addition to inspired new material, including 'A Bed Of Roses' with the UK's sublime powerhouse Drum and Bass outfit 4Hero. The lead single from the project, 'Borderline', is an ambient slow jam that flips the original, bringing new depth and poignancy to the song. The Makeover showcases this venerable artist, arguably a pop icon that helped define an era, thinking "outside the box" as Watley chooses to forego a conventional pop approach, opting to embrace a bold musical statement that includes collaborations with some of today's most sought-after DJ/producers of electronica, nu-soul and deep house. As she states in the liner notes, this personal project is heavily influenced by the DJ and club culture she's come to love and be inspired by. It's no wonder that her collaborations with King Britt, 4Hero, DJ Spinna, Ron Trent and Chris Brann on The Makeover have yielded top-shelf, beat-savvy and breathtaking results.

It doesn't seem like it's been twenty years!!!.......2007-06-23
One of the benefits of being an Amazon reviewer is that one gets to share thoughts and recommendations with others that have the same inclinations. As a result of browsing my "friends and favorites," I came upon this new one from 80's superstar Jody Watley. Inasmuch as the singer has been out of the limelight for some time, I was not aware of the fact that she has still been making music, albeit being marketed in foreign markets.
Well, am I glad that I "rediscovered" this talented diva. Not only does she sound as if the past twenty years since her solo debut album was just yesterday, she looks as though she hasn't aged a day.
The album itself is pure delight, with the singer revisiting two of her hits ("Don't You Want Me" and "Friendz") and performing new songs that add to her bevy of danceable tunes. "Don't You Want Me" segues seamlessly with the toe-tapping-makes-ya-wanna-move "Waiting in Vain" and "A Beautiful Life." Following these three songs comes the socially-conscious "Bed of Roses" which then leads to Watley's version of some "standards."
By that, I mean the singer's covers of songs that could be labeled modern classics: Chic's "I Want You Love," Diana Ross's "Love Hangover," Madonna's "Borderline," and a medley of The Carpenters "Close to You/Superstar/We've Only Just Begun." Not only does Watley rework them, she adds a seductiveness that was noticeably absent in their original forms.
She definitely comes across as a woman of experience but still maintaining her sexual allure.
And the piece de resistance, dancewise, is the "makeover" of the title cut from her last album, "Midnight Lounge." This is retro disco for a modern audience and it works to the max.
It is hoped that Watley gains new fans and that this disc is not limited to those of us that were around when she danced on "Soul Train" so many years ago.
STILL HOT.......2007-05-23
Jody Watley is amazing, she continues to release consistant material and "The Makeover" is no exception. Best tracks are: Waiting in Vain, A Beautiful Life, A bed of Roses, I want your Love, Love Hangover, Boderline, Close to you, honestly, the only two songs I don't like are her older songs Friendz and Don't you Want me. Dead horses!, she needs to give up remaking these songs over and over again, this is my only complaint, truly the best of the best are the songs she wrote for this CD. The voice is still excellent, it is a shame that she does not get more attention these days. We love you Jody and please keep releasing excellent material.
One Of Music's Best Secret.......2007-05-21
I still can't understand today's radio. This a collection of great music. Some madeover. Some new. Jody put her touch on Marley, Miss Ross, Chic, Madonna and Karen Carpenter. She worked with some of the hottest dance remixers like Ron Trent and another secret "4 Hero". Dance Queen Diva? She earned the name. The Queen of Smooth, Soultry Singer, Poet (Bed Of Roses), and gifted song writter are all names she can wear well with this release. Didn't care for the makeover of her "Friends". Do yourself a favor and check out her live shows. Get a peek at her Myspace page.
More Cooled Out Trip Hop from Jody Watley.......2007-04-26
Jody Watley continues to grow as an artist and explore chill down space age dance turf on her latest, "The Makeover," a worthy successor to her superb "Midnight Lounge." She essays a heady melange of eclectic covers (from Chic to The Clash), reimaginings of some key Watley tracks from her hit catelogue, and some terrific new songs ("A Beautiful Life," "A Bed of Roses") that are the highlight of this thoroughly enjoyable collection and demonstrates that not only can she make you dance, she has some food for thought for ya, too!
Nice work Jody.......2007-03-11
I have been a fan of Jody Watley for years. I have to say, the work she has done since NOT being on the 'pop' airwaves is her best. She sounds great and she should be very proud of this body of work. BUY IT!!!

Customer Reviews:
Brilliant!.......2007-05-23
The Soulcast remix alone is worth the price of this CD single. Jody has struck gold once again with this fantastic remake of the Chic classic. It's truly a shame that Jody no longer gets the attention that she deserves.
Warm, Sensual....WATLEY!.......2007-05-17
A cover of the 1979 Chic disco classic, Jody Watley's cover of "I Want Your Love" sounds more sincere in its feminist assertion of sexuality than the original. Exquisitely sung by Watley, the track boasts several remixer reinterpretations.
Of course, the most well-known remix is the Soulcast Icon mix (available here in both full and edited forms). The gentlemen of Soulcast -- Massimo Sanna and Franceso Giovanni respectively -- effortlessly recast the song as a ecstasy-fueled circuit synth-track. The Masi and Mello Late Nite Vocal Mix continues in this vein, though it is considerably darker than the other mixes. The Morgan Page Sunset Strip Mix is the most subdued (and atmospheric) remix on the single -- though no less sexy. And Watley's impassioned contralto is on display throughout, inspiring in its rawness -- enticing in its warm and passionate delivery.
"I Want Your Love" easily reaffirms Jody Watley's status as one of souful dance music's most agile singer/performers!
THIS IS JODY WATLEY AT HER SUPER BEST YET!!!.......2007-04-07
Avid music lovers such as myself will instantly think "Shalamar" or "Looking For A New Love" when they hear the name JODY WATLEY. If you're not familiar with this name or the music of this artist, then you must be under the age of 20, in which case you're forgiven for not knowing. However, the 30 somethings amongst us know what I'm talking about. When Jody Watley emerged on the scene as a solo artist, many people thought that she would just dissappear after one hit or two. But she proved them all wrong when she won the Grammy Award for best new artist, as well as garnering a few other nominations! This lady rivaled even MADONNA herself in popularity, in style, in songwriting, and it was her second album "Larger Than Life" that established Jody Watley as a pop icon, or as some like to refer to her, "The Queen Of Class". While the mainstream seemed to have lost an interest in Jody Watley, her fans never did. Because Jody Watley is not an artist one can place in any one category. Not only can she do pop music, she also does funk, she is an incredible jazz vocalist (have a listen to the song "After You, Who", which is featured on the album "Red Hot & Blue: A Tribute To Cole Porter"), she is also an incredible balladeer (listen to "It All Begins With You" on her "Affairs Of The Heart" album), and always wanting to travel different avenues, she took a trip down the Dance genre, to create two exceptionally acclaimed albums "Midnight Lounge" and "The Saturday Night Experience". Are you warming up to Jody Watley yet? Well, you should! Because next to being a singer, she is also a fantastic songwriter and producer, AND she owns her own record label, Avitone Records. Now, let's talk about miss Watley's last album "The Makeover". Or better yet, go and buy it! All I have to say about that album is: "This is how it's done, period!"
Her most recent single "I Want Your Love" is an incredibly "made over" version of the version that made the group "Chic" famous. There are 10 remixes of this song on this EP and I must tell you that every remix holds its own! My favorites are:
- The Soulcast Icon Mix
- Morgan Page Sunset Strip Mix
- Cristian Paduraru Vocal Mix
- Shwan Q Soltribe Mix
- Danny Krivit Edit
- Chin Digital House Party Mix
I would like to say that I am in no way, shape or form affiliated to Jody Watley, her management or recording company. I am merely her biggest fan in The Netherlands. Give this single a try, and I GUARANTEE you that it will have you on your feet in mere seconds!

Ahead of her time!.......2006-12-12
Jody has sustained an impressive career and this CD in some ways solidified her reputation as a solo artist. From soul train, Shalamar, Solo Artist to underground club & drum and bass. She is the epitome of a pop/soul star without the overexposure. She is and always will be one of my favorite dance artist. She & Shalamar ROCKED THE EIGHTIES! Glad to know she is still making hits: last August 2008 MAKEOVER.
TYPICAL 90'S BEAT.......2006-10-18
I LIKED THE CD. I PREFERRABLY LIKED THE TRACK "EVERYTHING", SEEMED LIKE IT WAS BEFORE IT'S TIME. OVERALL THE CD WAS OK. I DIDN'T PAY MUCH FOR IT.SO I THINK I GOT MY MONEY WORTH....ENJOY
Jody steps up her game.......2006-04-22
Jody Watley entered the music scene as a solo act in 1987, making her debut one of the most recognized & loved for it's time. Her combination of high fashion, cool vocals, & funky pop tunes made her quite the sensation.
She continued in 1989 with her followup LP "Larger Than Life". Here, there is a bit more emphasis on the "new jack" sound in which popular R&B was currently residing. Jody manages to infuse it her typical "high fashion" style, delivering odes to independence, "real love" (no pun intended), & just being who you are.
Musically, again helmed by Andre Cymone, the "new jack" sound as stated permeates the record. So along with the more dance oriented cuts (i.e.-"Come Into My Life"), cuts such as "L.O.V.E.R." & "Friends" exude a hip hop attitude. Bouncy beats & some skittering synths, & uses of some interesting sampling all work quite well together. The latter song, which features guest raps by Eric B. & Rakim, was the first of it's kind. Why some tried to credit Mariah Carey with this, Jody was the first mainstream R&B female artist to feature a hip hop act on a cut.
Vocally, Jody's smoky & enthralling voice continues to get better. She manages to steer ballads such as the cool "Everything". Alternating between sassy spoken word & soulful phrasing, as on the lead single "Real Love" Jody sounds very fresh & enthused.
Once again, the look of the record was VERY ahead of it's time. You can see where Jody Watley's high fashion execution in her music & look would be felt & used by acts such as En Vogue, Destiny's Child, Amerie, Brandy, Aaliyah, the list goes on. I really saw the inspiration in Amerie's "1 Thing" video, which to me recalled elements of the "Real Love" video.
I highly recommend the "Larger Than Life". It is definitely more than just a nostalgia piece. For those who can appreciate older musical textures, this record has held up well. Only maybe a small percentage of the tracks really don't go anywhere, but work within the context of the record well. This is one of my favorite Jody Watley albums & hopefully it'll become yours as well.
Pretty Good .......2005-11-28
But I am a real fan of Real Love and Friends the other songs is Ok Pretty Good CD
Real love, everybody needs one-gotta have real love.......2005-08-04
Given how Andre Cymone's production really gave her debut album a real kick, including her single "Looking For A New Love," it's no surprise then that she had Cymone produce and help with songwriting on the entirety of her sophomore effort, Larger Than Life, which shifted the danceable R&B, funky bass, and heavy instrumentation that made her big into new jack gear. And her debut single, the bass-heavy "Real Love" with its heavy synth riffs, is an example of that, and is merely not "Looking For A New Love Part II."
Yet, fate has cruel a way of repeating itself. "Real Love" was another #2 pop hit, but an R&B chart-topper. The culprit this time was fellow dancemeister Paula Abdul with "Forever Your Girl." There was no way "Real Love" could've failed to top. Still, another outstanding Watley song. And like "Looking For A New Love," there is an extended version of the single, with the repeated "ohh ohh ahh" refrain, brisk horns, and some excerpts from "New Love" included.
She gets help from Eric B & Rakim on "Friends," on how some people pretend to be friends, and how it's hard to find friends due to jealousy, envy, and the fact that friends often won't tell what they're thinking. As she sings, "Friends will let you down, friends won't be around. You need them most of all friends. Friends are hard to find, friends yours and mine." This #9 danceable pop hit, featuring some old school scratching, really tells it like it is.
Then comes the #4 ballad "Everything" and she doesn't do too bad a job here, on the only song not written by Watley and Cymone. The other ballad she does here, "Only You," has brief keyboards bursts akin to Spandau Ballet's "True" and either ballad would've done great as a single despite her lack of range. No, she's still got a smoky and sexy ambience whenever she sings ballads, and that's good too.
Examples of the energetic higher gear of dance include "What'cha Gonna Do For Me" with its overlapping drum machines, synths, and the shouted "what! what!" before the title is sung. However, the mid-paced ballad "Precious Love" stalled at #87 and given the other songs here, isn't a singleworthy candidate. Why not "Lifestyle," which starts with some slow Giorgio Moroder-like synths before boom!, going into high gear dance with those catchy drums and synths combo? It's a party in full swing, this song. Or why not the equally vivacious "Once You Leave"? "Come Into My Life" with its initial pounding percussion beats and funky bass instrumentation is yet another single candidate.
There are a few filler tracks in the midsection, but it comes back to life beginning with "Something New." Yet the album is more polished and skilled than her debut, and Larger Than Life shows an artist and producer tightening things and ratcheting the dance rhythms to a higher gear while still in the non-techno zone.

Was Never Impressed with Watley.......2006-08-09
I never cared for Jody Watley's music and I can see why she was dropped by her record label back in the 90's. her songs are so lame and boring! nothing fresh, nothing original. she always came off to me that she was trying to be like Madonna, Paula Abdul and Taylor Dane and now she has this crappy new cd out called "The Makeover" in which she sings tired on songs Like are you ready for this Madonna's Borderline LOL. still trying to sound like Madonn! So pathetic! No wonder her career is down the Toilet!
When dance and r&b were connected.......2005-01-28
In the late 1980's, many female singers came in to cash in and ride in on the dance-pop wave that Madonna and Janet Jackson brought back to the forefront after the disco backlash.
One of the most significant of the lot was Jody Watley. Although her first solo album came out in 1987, she was no stranger to the music industry as she had several hits with Shalamar in the early 1980's and was also part of Band Aid. Her debut album went top 10 and launched several major hits. Her followup "Larger Than Life" (1989) was equally successful. Latter albums like "Affairs Of The Heart" (1991), "Intimacy" (1993), "Affection" (1995) and "Midnight Lounge" (2003) didn't quite move from shelves the way her first two did, but she solidified that she had a loyal following.
From "Jody Watley" comes the career-defining "Looking For A New Love", the great "Still A Thrill", the Madonna-esque "Most Of All". "Some Kind Of Lover" and "Don't You Want Me" are both represented by the single/video remixes.
From "Larger Than Life" comes "Friends", "Real Love" and "Everything"
From "Affairs Of The Heart" comes "I Want You" and "I'm The One You Need" (her last top 40 hit)
"Intimacy" is represented by three tracks, but all in remix form (which there's nothing wrong with). "Ecstasy", "Your Love Keeps Working On Me" and "When A Man Loves A Woman"
If you miss the days when r&b music and club music were more closely connected and hip hop hadn't taken over r&b influence... check this CD out. You will be surprised at how many of these gems you remember.
Excellent album! .......2004-09-22
When I saw this album back in 1996, I had to get it! Excellent collection of Jody Watley's best songs and hits, from the debut's many hits such as Looking for A New Love to Real Love of the second to the somewhat tepid reaction of songs from the later two albums. Watley proved that she could be competitive with dance queens such as Janet Jackson and Paula Abdul in 1987, 1988, 1989, 1991, etc. with her series of hits. Her pairing of writing and creating the songs with Andre Cymone continued for the first 3 albums or so. One of the earliest R&B/rap collaborations (a trend popular now), was Jody herself having the always awesome Rakim rapping on Friends. That's still one of my favorite Jody songs. This demonstrates Jody's success with MCA before she started her own label, Avitone records. Since then, she's still getting better, as I played her Midnight Lounge from 2003 a lot! A true star and class act in her own right!
ECSTASY, FANTASY WHAT A COLLECTION!.......2003-10-12
Jody Watley came to the music scene after leaving her former group Shalamar, she overshadow anything she did with them, cuz honestly her fame and achievment was greater than anything that she did with the funky soul train group. Her funkyness was unique, different, from many upbeat artist like Paula Abdul or Janet Jackson, she was saussy in a point of view, with a much deeper voice, that somehow granted her the surprise of becoming Grammy's Best New Artist back in 1987. This cd includes all Jody's singles releases from her MCA years, except for "Precious Love" wich for my taste wasn't necesary either, all her songs deliver classiness and beauty, this collection should be consider upbeat cos there is only two slow grooves here, the tender ballad "Everything" that proved that she could deliver amazingly tender vocals, but what Jody does best is funky R&B grooves like the total classic "Looking For A New Love", other that reach the same amount of success are the joints from her first two albums "Real Love", "Some Kind Of Lover", "Friends", "Don't You Want Me", some songs that didn't make the charts as great as the previous mention, where ahead of their time, the great deeply "Still a Thirll", the club anthem ready "Ecstasy", a Madonna-like pop tune "Most Of All", and many other 90's grooves that faded in the charts, because it didn't fit the standards that some thought of what they should play in radio, but after all Jody stands out and takes risk making her a truthful artist that with time will get the respect she deserves, she's truly a human with great capability of sensitive music taste.
You Know You Want Her.......2003-03-28
The late 80's were the best time in pop music. Pop was fun and enjoyable and not taken too seriously. With women artists like Jody Watley, Expose, Taylor Dayne, Debbie Gibson, and Paula Abdul dancing their ways up the charts, it was a very feel-good time. I find it sad that today, few people seem to remember Jody Watley. She won the Grammy for best new artist in 1988 and had an impressive six top 10 hits from 1987-1990. "Looking For A New Love" was her break-through hit. It was huge and perched itself @ #2 on the pop charts for four weeks. She had two other top 10 hits from her debut which were "Some Kind of Lover"(#10 on pop charts) and the infectious "Don't You Want Me" (#6). My favorite Jody Watley song also came from her debut which is the catchy dance pop of "Most of All" which wasn't as big on pop radio, but did climb to #11 on the R&B chart. All of these songs are represented here. Her sophomore album "Larger Than Life" gave her three more top 10's. "Real Love" hit #2 while "Friends" also hit the top 10 @ #9. It was an innovative song. Now everyone and their mama uses rappers in their songs, but it was still a relatively new concept when Jody did it. "Everything" was her top 5 smash pop ballad, and of course it's here too. Later singles didn't do as well although "I'm the One You Need" did crack the top 20. Also on here are the dancey "Ecstacy" which is sure to have you grooving and the more artsy "When A Man Loves A Woman."
I'm going to vent that its ridiculous that this is out of print. It's her "Greatest Hits" collection for goodness sake! It's bad enoughthat her all her studio albums are out of print. How can anyone enjoy her music???

You Were My Everything.......2006-01-21
Jody Watley had a vibe about her that worked, and this CD gives you most of her great songs. My personal favorite is "Everything", which had girls with big hair and even bigger shoulder pads singing it in front of mirrors in 1989. I love this song because it reminds me of first-loves that got away. Even though Jody's best work was from the 70's, 80's and early 90's, she will always be my everything!
Excellent Collection.......2003-11-04
20th Century Masters collections are infamous for always leaving out at least one or two vital songs from an artist, but Jody watley's collection is actually pretty complete. The only other one i can think of is Diana Ross's.
All of Ms Watley's top 10 hits are here which are "Looking For A New Love", "Real Love", "Everything" "Some Kind of Lover", "Don't You Want Me", and "Friends." Plus, it includes "Most of All" which i think is her best song but it never cracked the top 40. The only gripe is that the charting single "Still A Thrill" from her debut is not here, but its forgivable. If you want A Jody album with all of her biggest hits, this is your best bet. Her 1996 "Greatest Hits" is for some reason out of print. It's superior, but if you can't find it, this will do.
Yuk! get the Greatest Hits Instead!.......2003-09-22
The Greatest Hits released by MCA in 1996, it's way better than this collection!, the only good thing about this, is that they included the"Off The Hook" track, wich is not available on the previous Greatest Hits cuz it came later.
A Real Good Overview.......2002-09-22
I like the Jams that Jody Watley&Andre Cymone did together&many of them here are featured.however I think that there are better overall Greatest Hits Packages out on Her.but this One Covers Her Main Jams.Jody had a vibe about Her that worked back in the day&you can't go wrong if you are just learning about Her work.

Nice Touch!.......2007-05-26
Midnight Lounge is unquestionably a more sophisticated JW with a sound played easily anywhere. The tracks are a smooth blend of jazz, R&B, and house boasting sensual melodies sure to please many of the fans.
A great choice; you won't be disappointed.
Tres Magnifique.......2006-11-02
What a marvelous achievement. My unexpected encounter with this album has been one of my great musical pleasures of 2006. The synthesis Watley achieves here is simultaneously thoughtful, relaxed, pleasant, warm, and yes, timeless. This record is THAT good.
Midnight Lounge, indeed. This is sophisticated modern music that not only showcases Watley well, but many of her influences too. Los Angeles never sounded so good. And Watley's iconic historical knowledge of thirty years of dance/R&B music is not just put to good use here, but fulfills much of the emotional promise of that music for so many of us. Hhhhhhmm, so good!
Jody's 'Midnight' Tonic.......2006-08-21
Fans of downtempo electronica would do well to pick this album up. 'Midnight Lounge' takes the beats of house, trip-hop, breakbeat and drum-and-bass and blends them with the warm melodies and arrangements of jazzy soul-pop. Producers Dave Warren, Masters At Work, and Rodney Lee (who does the bulk of the album) never allow the rhythms to overwhelm--they're just one part of the cozy soundscapes. And floating above it all is Jody Watley's smokey, velvety voice, which has never sounded better.
The album's theme seems to be about finding that positive "chill" place, whether literal (the title track) or within one's self ("The Essence"). Simple enough, but it also leads to some surprisingly reflective moments like the smoldering drum-and-bass track, "More." When she asks plaintively "Is the love gone?/Cause things have changed," she could be addressing a distant lover, but the line could also be applied to the record-buying public who lost track of her after her first two albums.
'Midnight Lounge' reaches it's emotional peak with a poignant cover of Peter Gabriel's "Don't Give Up." Dave Warren concocts a moody swirl of weeping synths and gently pulsing beats to compliment Watley's nuanced, been-through-it-all vocals. It's the album's melancholically resonant moment.
For the most part, though, 'Midnight Lounge' tends to look at the bright side of things. "Skin" embraces a sultry irony: it's lyrics talk about "searching for a kind of love that goes beyond the beautiful" but the creamy arrangement achieves the melt-in-your-mouth sensuality of Sade's 'Love Deluxe'-era. Friendships have ended in "Photographs," but Jody's only "thinking 'bout the good times." She says "everybody needs someone to love, someone to care" (the cushiony,Naked Music-esque "Whenever"), even the people who "cast shadows, trying to bring you down" in "Clouds." And the 8-minute-plus jazz-house remix of "Saturday Night Experience," courtesy of Ron Trent, is a blissed-out ode to "just groovin'" on a romantic Saturday night.
'Midnight Lounge' makes the perfect soundtrack to a night at your house with a few friends, conversation, cocktails and good times
Midnight lounge is addictive.......2006-04-07
I just thought about the Jody Watley marathon I had today while spring cleaning. I went from the first CD Jody Watley upstairs to Intimacy, which I just got last week to finally replace my tape. Then, I blasted some Affairs Of The Heart and Larger than Life downstairs. Midnight Lounge has been in heavy rotation since 2002, plus last week. Your music has a feel good quality to it, and bring back good vibes and memories. I mentioned in a previous email on how my friend damaged her Midnight Lounge last year, and panicked when she couldn't find it in her town. Your music never gets old, which is a sign of great writing. Besides, people tend to say that Jody haven't gotten the recognition deserved. Yet, those that hear her older stuff for the first time are pleasantly surprised. Many flocked to the new trends after "Larger Than Life" her sophomore release. I let a few co-workers hear midnight lounge in 2004 RI and 2005 NC. They all had great responses. One even thought it was Sade. Again, they all wanted to add it to their collection. We played it at one of many parties around 2003, and family from out of town responded by popping their fingers and swaying to the great sounds. They were feeling it!!! Plus, they knew who it was right away. Some of the best music out there is not included among the seven or so songs rotated on radio day after day. We are being deprived of some of the best songs that tell a great story, and can even add some wisdom to our lives. This CD does just that. I am so glad a co-worker alerted me that Midnight Lounge was in the Import section at Tower Records 2002!!! Miss Watley thanks for continually surprising us CD after CD. Now it's time to make us over with the upcoming release "The Makeover" this spring 2006.
killer hit.......2006-03-24
This is an all around good album. I particularly recommend it as background music while working.

Classic Gotta Have Remix Album.......2005-07-22
I had this on vinyl, played it over and over...got it on CD, still play it over and over. If you like Jody Watley you will truly enjoy this cd. The remixes are great! If only they made music like this still, she's a one of a kind artist. :-) I highly recommend this album, you will not be disappointed.
Terrible remixes.......2004-04-04
The original versions of these songs are great, but these remixes are poorly done and just plain annoying. The styles of Jody's songs could lend themselves to straightfoward extended versions, but they botched them up on this one.
STILL A TRILL!.......2002-11-03
After all these years, Jody Watley's remix album still sounds fresh. Every song is perfectly remixed. this can stil be played on the radio with its fresh sound. What more can I say? This c.d. is worth being in your music collection. Rating:A
Hasta la vista, baby.......2002-10-30
Oh, the 80's were such fun and no one personified that better than former Shalimar member Jody Watley. This compilation, with many recycled versions of hit singles from her debut album, is a great reminder of how the singer took the charts by storm.
The standout cut is "Real Love", a sashaying ditty that features Watley the disco chanteuse, having a ball stating her case to find the ultimate lover. Sampling heavily from the singer's own "I'm Looking for a New Love", this version is a perfect fit for a pair of dance shoes.
The seamless segueing of each of the eight cuts on this disc allows for one continuous party.
And that's what 80's Watley was all about!

Affairs Of The Heart.......2007-04-01
Considering what she's known for I am not sure if Jody Wately intended this as a concept album but 'Affairs Of The Heart' sure sounds like it.The album blithly explores the many facets of relationships and talks about subjects like family, love and spiritual connections.Musically the album is Jody's well balanced mixture of high tech ballads with some house and New Jack Swing material. The title song is one of the greatest songs Jody has made;her great sense of songwriting style and her vocal power really come to the surface here.Without mentioning who she's referring to she touches on spirituality with the wonderful "It All Begins With You".But this album is not all about ballads;"Dance To The Music" represents the "old" Jody Wately on a powerful house tune.Every song on this album is excellent especially if you are open to high tech musical styles. But musically 'Affairs Of The Heart' has an awful lot going for it.
One of her best cd's @}>---.......2006-07-03
I have always been a big fan of Jody Watley (I even have her exercise video). This is one of her best cds, if not the best cd. It has some stunning songs on it and even now, all these years later I still listen to it (I only have it on cassette - it's that old).
She has a beautiful soft, but yet powerful voice and she suits all the arrangements on her songs. The title track Affairs Of The Heart is possibly one of her best songs she's ever done. There is also the beautiful It All Begins With You and Commitment Of Love and the more up-tempo I'm The One You Need. If you are a fan of Jody's or just that early 90's R&B music, then this cd is for you. It's so good and you'll love it, I'm sure.
She Had An Affair With My Heart.......2006-04-21
Affairs Of The Heart is a masterpiece in my book. I am in total flux as to why MCA did not push this album. All the songs are much older and mature. Sexy. Sensual. Mesmerizing.
My faves are: I Want You, I'm The One You Need, Commitment Of Love, It All Begins With You, Dance To The Music, Always And Forever and Until The Last Goodbye. Each & every song showcases her in different facets of her life. To me, Affairs Of The Heart is one of her many personal albums. If you like good dance music along with mature sounding soul, get it!
Great album........2002-12-28
This album is great. It contains uptempo songs and ballads. Some in the music industry try to fit artists/entertainers into particular categories and seem uncomfortable when an artist grows beyond those artificial barriers. While Jody is exciting as a dance artist, she also is wonderful on other types of songs. My favorite songs are: 'Affairs of the Heart' (heartfelt message of encouragement to the younger generation), 'It All Begins With You' (recognition of God's fundamental presence and a desire for personal growth), 'Always and Forever', 'Stolen Moments', and 'Commitment of Love'.
Affected My Heart.......2001-02-05
Jody Watley has always been underrated and this album is an example of that, this is a good album, an album that should be considered one if not her best, "I Want You" should have been a hit but for some reason was somewhat ignored hitting #51 I believe, but the second song and the albums' best release "I'm The One You Need" took her to #19, which should have gone Top 10 was also underrated and I love that song, then this is the song I can't understand why it didn't do well, "It All Begins With You" and beautiful ballad, definitely desevered #1 status but stalled at #31 explain that, this is one of those good albums that isn't giving a chance and in this case that is a shame. The title song "Affairs Of The Heart" and "Call On Me" are also winners from this album. Sorely Underrated, Jody Watley's best work, and I love this artist.
