Brings back the old school days.......2007-05-29

Not too many are familiar with Glenn Medeiros, but for those of us that listened to his music back in the mid-to-late 80's, he's a voice that is very well recognized. He tends to use his soft voice for ballads, but this albums contains a couple of more up-tempo beats as well. However, in my opinion, he's fine sticking with the crooning style rather than trying to bring dance beats to the house. The title track, "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You" turned into the signature hit for Medeiros. The sappy lyrics and romantic message was a great hit with the female audience back about 20 years, but it still brings nostalgic thoughts to them today when it's played. Did you ever want to pop in a tune that your woman will react to with a "Aww... I remember that song, but I never knew who sang it"? If so, put on "Watching Over You" and you'll have a good chance that any woman past her 30's (or maybe even younger) will recognize the song and admit that they never knew who sang the song. Those two are great ballads, but "Knocking At Your Door" and "Lonely Won't Leave Me Alone" are also two good ballads that brings a similar tune. The Spanish version of the title track is also nice, but will sound a bit too redundant if it's played too soon after the English version. With this album, the Hawaiian-native Medeiros does his best to do an imitation of the teenage pop stars from the 60's era, and appears to succeed at some level in doing so. If you're a fan of the soft-pop, vocal tunes, and can stand the sappy/cheesy lyrics, this is a good album for you. If you prefer something with a little more substance or complex lyrics, maybe you'll need to look for music beyond the 80's pop era. Whatever is the case... this reviewer gives this album a 4-star for taking a chance on cheesy and skipping the commercialization.

I wore this tape out when I was in high school. Last week, I honeymooned in Hawaii. Unbelievably, Glen was hosting the laua at the hotel I stayed at, the Hale Koa. He was phenomenal. He performed mostly Hawaiian songs, but also sang "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love." WOW. I couldn't wait to get home and Google him. That led me to remember the second song that I "wore out" in high school..."Lonely Won't Leave Me Alone." That's going on my Ipod immediately. Thanks for the memories, Glen!

Old times.......2006-02-27

This CD is ages old for me. I bought it when I was 17 years old. It is romantic and lovely. And now I bought it "digita", to put it in my mp3 player, when it shuffles on it takes me back 12 years, it takes me back to my first love, my first boyfriend the innocence.
IT's a great buy.

Correction - Glenn is 100% Portuguese!.......2004-01-13

As Glenn Medeiros is my altime favourite artist, you won't hear much negative comments on his album from me. This album too is wonderful, it is actually his debut album repackaged but with two -at the time- new Spanish versions of two of his best early ballads, "Nada Cambiara Mi Amor Por Ti" ("Nothing's gonna change my love for you"), and "Si Me Faltas" (You're my woman, you're my lady").

The reason why I write this short comment is that I feel a correction is in place.

Glenn Medeiros is not Filipino. He was born and raised in Hawai'i but is of 100% Portuguese ancestry. I don't know where the Filipino tale came from, but Glenn is absolutely Portuguese.

Nothing against Filipino people, Glenn remains my number one no matter what his ancestry is, but he's Portuguese.

And what a voice he has!!! :-)

A great pop 40 hit, but SO much more!.......2003-05-21

I bought this CD years ago as I've always been a sucker for a great romatic ballad like (the title track) "Nothing's Gonna Change My Love For You." I'd get the CD out every once in awhile to listen to this great song and ignoring the rest of the treasures on this CD. Well, one day I had an extended business road trip and for some reason didn't pop the CD out after listening to "Nothing's Gonna...," which is the first song on the CD. I was astonished and kicking myself the rest of the day for not playing the rest of these 11 songs long before. Every song is memorable in its own right.

A nice surprise is to listen to "Nada Cambiara Mi Amor Por Ti," which is Glenn singing "Nothing's Gonna..." in Spanish. In fact, this track, and the last one- "Si Me Faltas" are two of my favorite tracks on the album. Other stand outs for me are "Watching Over You," and "A Fool's Affair"- and this certainly isn't to dismiss the rest of the songs on the CD. They are as equally satisifying and enjoyable as the ones I have mentioned and all flow together every well. The playlist is mostly comprised of romantic ballads with a couple of high energy songs, with a decidedly latino flair.

I'm trying to make up for lost time by giving this CD a lot of play now when I want to relax, feel good, and appreciate music from a great artist. Mr. Medeiros' voice is strong, soothing, and infectious. You'll want to sing along with him on all these great songs. Forget Ricky Martin! If you want to listen to a great latino singer/artist, Glenn Medeiros sets the standard to which all should strive to reach. As this CD is now twelve years old, it's hard to say how much longer it could be readily available. Trust me when I say this is one CD to purchase as you will be pleasantly surprised, satisified, and wondering why you didn't discover it years ago too.

Released in 1997, this album by singer Jon Pickering contained remakes as well as original compositions. Good album if your really into Euro-disco artist like Nicki French as there are similar styles to her take on Total Eclipse Of The Heart in many of the songs.
