The double-disc soundtrack to the blockbuster Saturday Night Fever (available on a single CD) marks both the zenith and the nadir of disco. It was such a popular sensation that it catapulted the music to stratospheric levels of mainstream popularity, and the album was the bestselling movie soundtrack of all time (until The Bodyguard, and then Titanic). But "Disco Fever" became so hot, it could only flame out just as quickly (along with the careers of the Bee Gees). With this record, disco became a phenomenon and a fad. The Bee Gees' contributions are the strongest, especially the once-ubiquitous "Stayin' Alive" and "Night Fever," and they still hold up. Then there's Walter Murphy's "A Fifth of Beethoven," a trivial piece of pop ephemera that may have set new standards for ephemeral triviality. How often will you listen to this record--and how much will you play when you do? There's no telling--but it remains a classic piece of pop history, and when you're in the mood it's a good thing to have around. --Jim Emerson

Save your money. You are better off purchasing the BEE GEES greatest hits CD. There are too many songs on this CD that the BG's didn't sing.

Album Description
Throughout the years, Kool & The Gang have made music we've danced to, loved to, and been awed by, and their musical brotherhood is still strong. The celebration continues with their latest album, STILL KOOL, which is rich with good vibes, serious messages, signature horns, rockin' guitar, beautiful ballads and jammin' new grooves, and it shows why Kool & The Gang remain as relevant and contemporary as ever.
Customer Reviews:
Not Kool enough.......2007-07-30
This isn't the KATG I remember, many of the songs are slow, and there isn't any real funk on this CD. It sounds pleasant enough, but that's about all, it's just nice safe pleasant music.
I Can't Stop Listening To THis Great CD.......2007-07-28
"Still Kool" is a great CD. I've told all my friends and they agree that this a refreshing change from all the junk out there. Just Imagine: real trumpets, real drums, real saxophones, etc. And the vocals are right on time. "Still Kool" is a great hard hitting mixture of music. As I read in a review elsewhere, this CD will make you smile, dance, think, relax and more. I put it in my car CD player and now I cant wait to get back in the car. True, they don't sound like the old KATG; They sound much better. Buy this CD and I guaranty that you will love it. 8 of the 16 tracks really stand out. The combination of "Whats Happening Brother" and "It Is What It Is" will blow you away. "To Low For Zero" will warm your heart. "America" will make you proud. "Steppin' Into Love" and "Trust Me" will have you up and dancing. As you can tell, I love this CD. This is a buy.
Original no more........2007-07-26
Had I stumbled across one of the first 16 cuts on this cd, I'd have no clue who this is. I realize that as artists and lead singers rotate, there's a variance in the music sometimes, but this has no "orginal" Kool & The Gang flavor with the exception of the last original cuts. Some groups can mix the new school flavor with the old school and make it work, unfortunately this doesn't work for Kool & The Gang on this cd, feel the boogie??
On the flip side of that, The Bar-Kays' cd "House Party" maintains it's originality yet fuzes enough hip hop in to make it work without sacrificing that originality. When I first heard the first cut on their cd, I knew it was the Bar-Kays. Question is, would you know this was Kool & The Gang if you heard one of the first 16 cuts? - I wouldn't.
Kool and the Gang; Still Doing Their Thang!.......2007-07-23
I stumbled on this CD while flipping through a CD rack. I did not know it it exist and as a Kool fan, naturally I purchased it as they have not released anything new in quite some time. This turned out to be a great purchase because the songs are pleasant, musical and devoid of that rap sound. Again, it is a joy to hear music with real instruments throughout. I can't talk enough trash about the current state of black radio, including the one in my market, that has destroyed the minds of young black kids with mindless music, and discourages them from learning to play music instruments. If you feed young folks bad music, they're start to like it as they don't know any alternatives. Feed them good stuff, and they will cultivate an appreciation for it. This CD features a great recording of clean and very listenable, radio friendly music. It is aptly titled "Still Kool." Thats right Kool and the Gang is still doing their thang. I strongly recommend this purchase as this is a great great project from Kool and the Gang; the best soul music has to offer. To borrow from a song on this CD, it truly is what it is? And, to somewhat borrow from Richard Pryor, "... its (cheap) too. :-)
Kook & The Gang: They've Still Got It!.......2007-07-18
Wow! A must have! What A Comeback!!! You can hear a lot of their 80's flair with a current groove. "Steppin' Into Love" and "Trust Me" are nice grooves for dancing. My favorites of the entire listing are "Too Low For Zero" and "Made For Love". Mellow grooves to enjoy during a quiet rainstorm, a mellow glass of wine and someone to cuddle with! "Too Low For Zero" is a tearjerker! The entire CD is wonderful! I think you will be pleasantly surprised if you're looking for something fresh and engaging! Enjoy!!!

I LOVE THIS CD!!!!.......2007-04-10
This CD is NOT a remix..like so many of them are these days...this is the REAL DEAL...all the songs are GREAT!!! I just love it!
Great set of tunes!!.......2005-05-16
Celebration: The Best of Kool & the Gang is the best songs from a great band.
In fact, I NEVER met anyone who did not love Kool & the Gang.
one of the best of their "best of"s.......2005-02-04
It's a great compilation of Kool & the Gangs hits. Although a few hits are missing here: Rocksteady, Summer Madness, Emergency, Be My Lady, Good Time Tonight,... But it is really too hard to collect all their hits in just one CD, 'cause they have soooo many good songs.
The Penultimate Collection.......2004-07-04
I actually give this 3-CD collection 3.5 stars. CD 1 will teleport to the great times of the 70's and 80's. CD 2 incorporates more synthesizers and has more of a rock 'n roll feel. If they had left songs like "Straight Ahead", "Peacemaker", "Rags To Riches" and "Strong" off of the second CD and added the three missing classics, "Summer Madness", "Hollywood Swinging" and "Open Sesame", I would have given this CD collection 5 stars. CD 3 provides hipper (remix) versions of a couple classic tunes. Thus, this not the ultimate collection but the penultimate collection. Still, it's a nice CD.
Buy the combo.......2004-01-27
The CD is a good complilation of the later works of Kool & The Gang. It compliments the Best of Kool & the Gang 1969-76 CD, so I suggest buying the both of them if you want a comlete collection of CDs that cover Kool & the Gang's career with out overlapping and duplicating tracks. Added bonus: the version of "Cherish" on this CD is the extended track.

The Evolution of Kool.......2007-07-30
Great CD's!!
It's a nostalgic view of their music life. Great compilation of pre and post JT Taylor led songs. These guys could really play!!
So funky!.......2007-07-17
More soul than you can shake it stick at; this album is excellent! Additional features include: chronological track arrangement; brief history and digitally remastered sound. The most definitive greatest hits album, all time.
R&B SWEET !!!.......2007-01-22
From their earliest sounds, to their latest, Kool and the Gang are
still the GREATEST !!!!
The Best Collection Of Kool & The Gang Ever Assembled........2007-01-07
Kool & The Gang were undoubtedly one of the biggest and best acts of the 1970s' funk / dance movement, and their success continued well into the 1980s'. With hits like "Jungle Boogie", "Ladies Night", the classic "Celebration", "Get Down On It", "Joanna", "Fresh", "Cherish" and many others, Kool & The Gang set the charts as well as dance floors ablaze during their peak years.
"Gold" a 2 cd, 31 song collection of the group's biggest hits, is the ideal Kool & The Gang Collection. Every Top 10 hit they ever had is included (including their last big hit, 1987's "Stone Love", which is often left off most compilations of the band for some reason), as well as some minor hits that may have been forgotten about by those who are only familliar with the popular songs by the group.
The sound quality is fantastic, and the packaging and liner notes are excellent as well. Iff you only want one Kool & The Gang cd for your collection, than "Gold" is by far your best bet.
Everything's Kool!.......2006-05-05
What a set! One disc of hardcore funk, and one disc of great 80s pop. Kool and the Gang's transformation is just as radical as Fleetwood Mac's was when Lindsey and Stevie joined, or when Talking Heads went from new wave to funk.
Disc one brought back a lot of memories for me; songs I had completely forgotten about, "Funky Stuff", "Hollywood Swingin'", "Higher Plane", "Summer Madness", and "Love and Understanding".
Allegedly the early stuff kept James Brown awake at night; the Gang was THAT funky. Proof's on disc one. The songs are mostly instrumental with a smattering of call/response. Their M.O. is simple, establish the groove and WORK IT.
And then James JT Taylor joined in 1979 and, thus disc two. The Gang is now a hit machine, cranking out the music like Ford turned out Thunderbirds: "Ladies Night", "Too Hot", "Celebration" (which will live long after you and I are gone), and on and on and on. Even in this phase they still etablish the groove and work it, as displayed on the almost 7 minute "Let's Go Dancing"... even that's too short!
Whoever put this together at Universal deserves a raise or something. The songs are chronological, well written band essay, ample credits. This two disc best of should be the standard to which other record companies strive.

Pretty cool live DJing, but it's not great as it's a little cheesy and dated.......2006-01-12
First of all, the album isn't all that long and it's pretty repetitive (he repeats the same song - "Let Me Clear My Throat"). DJ Kool himself isn't that great either - he's not bad, but I think some people might not like him. The beats here are pretty great, but his singing/rapping ruins it in a way (also, the production is pretty good but could use some remastering). If you like him, though, then that won't matter. The most well known song here is the lesser known hit "Let Me Clear My Throat" which most of you have probably heard before but don't know who performed it. The lyrics here are pretty pointless as it's essentially just a party album. If that's what you're looking for then it's merely "good", but I doubt most people would call it great. Overall, it's a pretty short album that genre fans will like, just not love. All in all I'd still recommend it.
Highlights include:
the entire album!
Hot Club Song!.......2003-06-16
My Favorite song on this album is of course Let Me Clear My Throat, my friends and i recently visited Cancun, Mexico and this song was one of the most popular club songs that was played over there, i love this song, it just gives u this special kinda energy to just get to the dance floor immediately and do your thang, this song is off the rip..4 real
Awsome.......2002-05-02
Awsome techno cd, for anyone who likes good dance with a nice beat.
Awesome party album!.......2001-01-21
The only reason I gave this album 4 stars is because it was way too short(only 8 tracks and 2 of them are an intro and an outro). But otherwise, this album is slammin'! It's a great cd to play at a party or in a club! The best song is the title track Let Me Clear My Throat(which is featured 3 times on the cd: the regular version on track 2, the Old School Reunion Remix on track 7, and on the 20 Minute Workout Remix on track 6), but I also really like the songs Put That Hump In Your Back, and I Got Dat Feelin'(which samples the beat for Naughty By Nature's classic song "Uptown Anthem"). If you're looking for a good party album, pick this up today!
Let Me Clear My Throat Is PHAT.......1999-06-05

I Go To Work!!!!.......2007-02-22
"I Go To Work" and "Wild Wild West" make this CD worth getting on it's own. However, only at a price point that is under $10.00. Couldn't find this CD on iTunes in Canada, so this was a good pick up.
Kool Moe Dee's Greatest Hits.......2006-08-25
Great CD!!! This is "old school" at it's finest.
A.Wood you're sucker.......2006-07-03
How can Moe Dee deserve only 1 star? How can an old school's true pioneer be garbage? This album is very good, original and Kool Moe Dee's style is elegant but also cutting. Featuring stunning tracks like How Ya Like Me Now and the LL-destroying Let's Go this album is an essetial old school document.
God Made Me Funke, They Want Money, Do You Know What Time It Is?, I Go To Work and Wild Wild West are also very good tracks, the rest is a bit weaker. The only other thing you have to know is that A.Wood is a fake, he's a Busy Bee fan and since Moe Dee destroyed Busy Bee on a freestyle he rated this album and all the other moe dee's albums with one star. you don't believe me? check his reviews, he probabily doesn't even know what he's talkin about so don't consider his useless reviews. Instead listen to the album because Moe Dee is an original freestyle master.
Peace
Hip Hop ...long, lonnng, looonnggg ago.......2006-06-11
Kool Moe Dee doesn't stand up to the late 1980s greats of the day like Rakim, KRS-One, Chuck D, Doug E. Fresh, Big Daddy Kane or LL Cool J, but he was part of an elite group of talented, creative MCs who kept it real.
I was never enough of a Kool Moe Dee fan (come on--when he came @ LL back in they day, how many of us were "really" ridin' wit him? LOL) to need to own any of his albums, but he was good at dropping a classic single from time-to-time.
I own this CD for four reasons: "I Go To Work," "Wild Wild West," "How Ya Like Me Now" and "They Want Money."
"I Go To Work" was the hype, high-energy dance track that always kept a party jumpin' when you put it on. It's still a banger if you ask me.
"Wild Wild West" was an elementary school favorite of mine ... another jam with it's own signature dance we did back in the day.
"How Ya Like Me Now" was a cold battle rap though by today's gun-totting, gangsta standards, I'm sure young hip hop heads today would laugh at it like a Mr. Rogers Neighborhood fairytale.
"They Want Money" was basically a Kanye West's "Gold Digga" for it's time ... another track for da fellas who knew da game when foul females were on da prowl.
This is probably a CD that can't and won't be appreciated by anyone born later than 1982 (just being real).
This is a collection of gems from hip hops golden age before it crossed over to mainstream and sold out.
Bad album, bad flows over all this album sucks.......2006-01-28
This guys best music is still worse music,
This guy doesn't even deserve to hace KRS-One on his album.
I love classic rap but this guy is awful

Voices Full of Emotion.......2005-12-19
Once you hear this chorus...whether under the Red Army Choir or Soviet Army Choir banner...you will be addicted. I certainly am. This is not the best disc available on Amazon, but it is unique in that it showcases all Russian songs (since the chorus was a "national" choir, recordings done in London, Paris, etc. frequently contain songs from other countries). And while there may be better and more professional recordings, of this choir and more professional bands, these soldiers succeed in achieving a wide range of color with their vocal talent on this recording. A great bargain.
Sound quality.......2004-07-06
The songs that are chosen on this CD are excellent. The problem, the sound recording is not great. It is clear, but when the choir sings in a low tone, it is simply cannot be heard.
A Trip to Soviet Russia.......2004-03-18
In the 1970's, it seemed that defectors from the USSR made headlines in American newspapers every day. When a dancer defected, it was always believed that artistic freedom was the cause. When writers defected, it was due to the controversy surrounding their works. Athletes were usually viewed as wanting a taste of the good life, but when the Red Army Choir defected, it was a sweet victory for the west. These people were the symbol of all the USSR stood for and sang anthems praising the Soviets, yet they longed for freedom. We loved it when they defected.
Even though many of the songs performed by the ensemble praised the virtues of the Soviet Union, western audiences love the group. No it was not due to be soft on Communism. The group had a sound that was addictive and possessed terrific musical gifts, all of which can be found in this recording.
Listening to this recording is almost nostalgic now that the Soviet Union is no longer, but the recording has a certain appeal. It includes all the favorites including Meadowlands (Polyushku pole), Dark Eyes, Moscow Nights, and the Volga Boatman's Song, probably the best piece on the recording. The ensemble performs well together, the band give the music a distinct sound, and while the soloists are not perfect, the imperfections somehow seem appropriate.
There are more expensive recordings by this ensemble, but this budget CD is not just well worth the price, it is actually one of the best available.
Good Value.......2003-11-03
Considering the number of classic songs and the price, you really can't go wrong here. like another poster, i was a bit dissapointed by some very low music in some selections. but for the most part, the quality is quite good and the music is a very nice way to begin to understand and learn about the Russian people.
Good, but not perfect.......2003-01-19
This is a very good CD, and the music really captures the power and total authority of the Soviet state. It is very moving music on one hand, and also really reflects the situation of the Russian workingmen living under this tyranny. This CD would get 5 stars, but there are a few portions where the sound is so soft that it cannot be heard, such as at the beginning of the sixth track. This is the only problem with the CD worth noting, the CD is done by the Red Army choir, and the songs are virtually all made of of the huge band & choir, Soviet power music that we all have come to know and love. I do recommend this CD strongly.

4.5 stars from one of rap's legends.......2004-12-23
Almost 3 years passed since his last album, the mediocre "4,5,6" but G Rap Giancana returns with a great album. One of rap's don's, the album cover and skits are fitting, tying in "Scarface" & "The Godfather". Packed with 15 songs and little guest appearances you get enough of G Rap to satisfy you. Out of the 15, there is 1 or 2 that I skip, 1 classic snd the rest are good or great songs. The production is much better than on his "4,5,6" and his lyrics are as sharp as they were in the mid 80's. Dr. Butcher produces 5, J Stank does 3, Rich 5 & Fade do 2 each, and Haji, A Evans, E Thompson each do 1. A must have rap album.

One Gangsta Movie!!!!!.......2004-04-16
1998 was a great year for hip hop. It's just sad that this EXCELLENT marvel in storytelling from Kool G.Rap went virtually unnoticed by most hip hop fans. Roots of Evil goes back to where Live And Let Die left, as G.Rap, in his greatest from, produced some of the greatest storytelling I personally have ever heard on record. Listening to this album(just like Live And Let Die) is like watching a straight hardcore gangsta film. It's filled with gritty, explosive moments throughout. Here's the review:
Album Highlights: DON'T skip ANYTHING on this album. NO FILLER. One movie all the way through.
Production: Thumbs up. Nothing spectacular, but the tracks G.Rap's storytelling style.
Lyrics and Subject Matter: Thumbs way up. It's like a "Live And Let Die Part 2."
Originality: Thumbs way up. NO ONE was coming like this in 98.
The Last Word: Absolutely entertaining album from G.Rap. It might have been slept on, but I still appreciated this album from him. As with his first three albums, G.Rap ultimately proved to me that he is one of the all-time greats in hip hop, and his spot is WELL DESERVED. Overall, if you can locate a copy, I STRONGLY RECOMMEND this album, especially for the fans of deep, precise storytelling.

Product Description
Kool G Rap DJ Polo's "Road to the Riches" had been a long time coming when Cold Chillin' released it in 1989. It didn't disappoint. After some successful singles and G Rap's contributions to Marley Marl's Juice Crew, the duo arrived almost fully formed on its debut. Whether boasting (his greatest strength at this point) or spinning tales, G Rap's knife-edged rhymes -- delivered with the hardest-sounding lisp in hip-hop -- tear through Marley Marl's productions and DJ Polo's scratching with all the ferocity of a pit bull devouring a piece of meat. Though tracks like "Poison", "It s a Demo", and the title track won this record a lot of respect, there are several other moments that help make this a remarkable debut. On "Men at Work", lines like, "I drop rhymes on paper and then build a skyscraper/When I die scientists will preserve my brain/Donate it to science to answer the unexplained" whip by so fast that it s easy to overlook Marl and Polo's perfectly snarling, densely percussive backdrop. Marl's imaginative sampling gleans from all sorts of unexpected sources, like the harmonica from Area Code 615's "Stone Fox Chase", the odd phasings of Kraftwerk's "Trans-Europe Express" (no one used it like this), and the burbling synths from Gary Numan's "Cars" (remember, this was the late 80s). People throw the word classic around lightly. Kool G Rap and DJ Polo's debut album is a triumph in the Hip Hop world that has withstood the test of time, and will always be referred to as a cohesive project that demonstrates lyrical and production ability, as well as artistic chemistry. A Great Deluxe Treatment for a Classic Rap Album.......2007-02-28
Kool G Rap-- His lisp is still crisp-- Possessing one of the most distinctive voices in hip-hop, he blazed a trail for several rappers to follow, despite being relatively unknown by mainstream standards. He's kind of like Iggy Pop of the hip hop world-- he never sold a tremendous amount of records, but he maintains a cult following that won't quit, while scores of newcomers point to him as an influence.
The 2 disc collection starts off in the late-1980's, back when the Marley Marl-led "Juice Crew" was among the early hip-hop posses to achieve prominence, being signed to Prism Records, which eventually would become Cold Chillin'. Shortly afterwards, label head Ty Williams secured a distribution deal with Warner Bros.
"I'm Fly" and "It's a Demo" are sparse early tracks which makes listeners focus even more on Kool G's lyrics. At this time, he was somewhere between LL Cool J and Rakim, spouting whimsical braggadocio with occasional inflections of sober battle-ready aggression. His technique would be fine-tuned on his first album, "Road to the Riches", featuring the title cut, "Dope Car" (sampling Gary Numan), "Poison", and "Men at Work". Marley's 808-driven funk production is at it's best here. The first disc has the original album and a few bonus cuts including the early, non-album singles. The second disc has a great collection of rarities, including radio promos & interviews, as well as alternate takes, remixes & instrumentals which were previously only available on 12" maxi-singles during the original release of the album (the best of the bunch: an alternate take of Big Daddy Kane's "Raw" featuring Kool G. The collection has better than average liner notes, including commentaries from photographer George DuBose, Ty Williams and Kool G Rap himself. There are also lyrics printed for all the original songs.
"A Re-Mastered Masterpiece!".......2007-02-11
This is the ultimate and most definitive Kool G Rap & DJ Polo ollection EVER!! Superior sound quality and a bonus CD containing their early sigles from '86, radio freestyles and remixes. Their best collection yet! a must have CD! A re-mastered Hip-Hop masterpiece, what more can you ask for?
