Gwen McRae Sings TK.......2007-01-25

I was only familiar with Gwen McRae from her hit "Rocking Chair". However, I knew the music of TK records so I thought that I would give this CD a try. I love what she has done with these songs. While she did not take away from the essence of the original songs, she was able to captivate me with her own flavor of what the music scene at TK records must have been like. She has a very distinctive, raspy voice that has stood the test of time. It is a unique sound that is not heard much these days. This CD is a refreshing return of the soul sounds of the 70's and as well as the artists that made the music so memorable.

Digitally Remastered Collection from the Wife of Singer George Mcrae who Hit it Big with her Single "Rockin' Chair". She was Brought to the "Motown of the South" at Henry Stone's Alston Records Originally by Singer Betty Wright in the 1960's and Remained to Join in the Tk Stable Through the 70's Where Both She and her Husband Enjoyed Monumental Success. She Worked with Wright and Clarence "Blowfly" Reid as Well as Willie Clark and Both were Pivotal to the Tk Success Story.

If you like the soulful seventies, R & B or disco music, you'll love this CD. Gwen McCrae has one of the best female voices ever recorded and she knows how to use it for the listeners enjoyment. This is an excellent CD to have in your collection.

Sweet beautiful soul from one of the all-time greats! Let's Straighten It Out features Gwen in a more mellow soul vein -- copping a sweet bit of funky keyboard work from Latimore, whose great track she redoes as the title cut. Other cuts include 'Cradle Of Love', 'Your Love Is Worse Than A Cold Love', and 'Early Morning Love'. Even better is the great album Melody Of Life. The album has a lot more of a modern soul sound than her other albums for the label, thanks to some sweet mellow production work by Betty Wright. The cuts are great, with a stone cold mellow groovin' sound that shows that Gwen was still working on her style, changing it and expanding it past the fame of her big mid-70s recordings. Titles include 'All This Love I'm Givin', 'I Can Only Think Of You', 'I Found A Love', 'The Melody Of Life', and 'The Joy'. EMI. 2005.

Gwen's Rockin Chair album sold more copies than anyone could ever imagine -- and it not only includes the great title hit, but also the monster sample cut '90% of Me'. Other nice ones are 'He Don't Ever Lose His Groove', 'He Keeps Something Groovy Going On', 'Move Me Baby', and 'It's Worth The Hurt'. Something So Right is an oft-overlooked gem -- and was cut during the best part of her 70's career on the Cat label. The record's got a good mix of deep southern soul tracks and funkier modern soul numbers, and Gwen's voice is right on the money on just about every cut. Clarence Reid wrote most of the material, and great cuts include 'Love Without Sex', 'Mr. Everything', 'Damn Right It's Good', and 'Iron Woman'. EMI. 2005.

you can listen new virsion 'keep the fire burning'. It's also as good as old. Her voice is no changing. great husky voice shine out in this album.

Fantastic album. A lot of funky track + A great remix of (funky sensation). You have to buy it if you are appreciating funky beats and good vocals. Her voice is fantastic too!
