Question only........2003-12-25
I would like to know if this isthe same Controllers who made the album Stay in 1986. If so where can I find this album on CD.
This smooth, underrated group is sure to please........2003-06-17
The Controllers are a very fine but underrated soul harmony vocal group. Lead singer Reginald MacArthur is a great crooner and the other three members provide good back-up harmonies. The beautiful Quiet Storm ballads "Alone", "Goodbye", "Into Your Heart" and "No Need To Hurry" prove this perfectly.
Music Connoseur.......2000-07-06
One of the best kept secrets in soul ballads. Easy listening with a powerful message of love for lovers, with such tunes as "Someone Gotta Win and Someone Gotta Lose" and "When I'm Away" and the powerful remix of Stevie Wonders' hit, "Very Superstitious." One of the best music groups from Birmingham, AL, the home of such greats as Eddie Kendricks, and Paul Brown. The Controllers are long overdue for super stardom.

SO SO.......2005-09-03
Well i thought that it would be spectacular but it was ok i like it but its not the first thing i wanna listen to but i do like it.
Pretty good, but not their best (I give it three stars, not two).......2005-08-10
I bought this CD for one song, "let me be your armor". I love that song! The rest of the CD is ok, it was fun to hear remixes of "naked" and "disappoint", but the originals are much better. If you are new to Assemblage 23 I recommend that you buy the Storm album instead.
A Remix/B-Side Release Album.......2005-07-16
Tom Shear returns with this much anticipated album that is full of remixes and B-Side previously unreleased tracks. This is a 13 track CD with 9 of the tracks actual remixes of songs from the 'Contempt' and 'Failure' albums. Having at the moment listed to the 'Contempt' album and not 'Failure' I cannot comment on many of the remixes in full. I am at the moment purchasing the rest of Tom Shear's outstanding work.
However the highlight of this album was actually the 3 B-side songs that were not released previously. 'Let Me Be Your Armour', 'Breath Of Ghosts' and 'Away' sound better than the remixed songs. How they were never including in any other Assemblage 23 album is way beyond me. These songs are a mixture of dark industrial sounds mixed with new wave ambient trance beats. This should make any fan of Tom Shear and his work on Assemblage 23 get this album and its a valuable addon to your existing music library.
Good but not perfect.......2003-07-03
I can't really say that I am all too familiar with Assemblage 23's music like I am with VNV Nation and Apoptygma Berzerk. I only know the song "Time Killer" and A23's most recent album "Defiance". I bought "Addendum" almost a week ago when I found a used copy of it in the used bins. I really wanted to familiarize myself with other A23's music. I didn't find out until later that "Addendum" was a remix album when I read the back of the cd case. Normally I am not wild about remix albums. I find them terribly repetitive like Delerium's "Odyssey" cd. Since I was not really familiar with most A23's music, I bought "Addendum" right on the spot. For the most part, I enjoyed "Addendum" especially the first four tracks. I thought Tom Shear really did a splendid job of fusing industrial beats with melancholic lyrics and sweet melodies. What I wasn't too fond of was the last three or four tracks. I found those songs repetitive and made me reach for my bottle of Excedrin. After listening to "Addendum", the music made me more curious to hear the orginal versions, especial "Awake" and "Naked", two of my personal favorite songs on the cd.
Three Easily-Missed Examples of Importation Bliss.......2003-01-23
While I'm not a fan of remix albums, I do find myself gravitating toward anything that Tom Shear's Assemblage 23 moniker decides to throw toward the thresholds of consumerism. Accordingly, I decided that this album, mostly comprised of remixes, needed to join me because it had some different sounds and because of the three gems concealed within its pricey imported confines. Normally my consumption-based ambitions don't congregate in such needy packs like this, but Assemblage 23's last three releases (Contempt and Failure before this and then Defiance afterward) dictate that I do so and, happily enough, I'll have to say that the songs merited the purchase I made.
Taking steps to traverse plateaus outside the momentous boundaries of Failure, these three new additions all have calling cards of their own, each keeping a temponic resonance that helps separate each one. Breath of Ghosts is heavily electronic and driven, keeping within it the normal namesake of Tom Shears in the form of lyrical charges and their perspective ability to flow. Let me Be Your Armor is a change of pace and is a bit slower than its former, managing a message of protection against the elements of cruelty life harbors within it while holding out the mantle of love in ways that are seductive in their normal-worldly appeal. Away is the slowest of the three, providing perhaps the best of the three in terms of lyrical content, message, and the depths of hidden seething emotions, speaking about the ever-growing blights some people are in life and their need to sometimes flee the deeds we've done in them.
If you've never looked into Assemblage 23 before, I wouldn't suggest this album for you because it only has three new pieces to add to the equation and because its a remix album. Instead, you might want to look into Failure of Defiance first, attaching yourself to the foundations of the message before picking up these proverbial odds and ends. If you are a fan, though, and are looking for more, the three entries and newer tastes applied to older sensations are something I would recommend trying out.

Customer Reviews:
New York City ain't got nothin' at all.......2004-05-25
This is a track by track cover album by The Queers of the classic Ramones album. The songs are even in the exact same order. The songs are played well enough, but the question is why listen to this instead of the Ramones original? The arrangements are not much different from the original versions, so not much new is added. The most notable change is a different vocal arrangement on "Sheena Is a Punk Rocker". It's hard to say who this might appeal to.
Bought it the other day.......2002-08-09
The Queers doing the Ramones. Need I say any more? Well, ok. It was great.
The Queers covering The Ramones, there's a shocker.......2000-12-13
This is The Queers covering The Ramones entire Rocket To Russia album. Same track order, same songs, just by The Queers and not The Ramones. Might sound like a good idea to some, but why you just wouldn't listen to the originals is beyond me. Of course The Queers have a certain indebtedness to "Da Bruddas," so covering them isn't a surprise. And they weren't the only band to do it. Screeching Weasel covered The Ramones, The Vindictives did Leave Home, and... well there were others too, but you get the idea. Like the Queers? Wanna hear em sing the best Ramones album, in its entirety? Go for it!

Syn But Not The Syn.......2006-01-26
Though very listenable, this CD is not by the same progressive rock pioneers known as the Syn with Chris Squire and Steve Nardelli. There are apparently two totally different bands with the same name. The original band was founded in the mid 1960s.
The best album you never knew about........2005-12-26
Syn's sound is a cross between the Counting Crows and Living Colour. An album that fell through the cracks in 1994. There is not a bad sounding song on this album. Pop it in and play. This CD was given to me in college 11 years ago and I still enjoy listening to it. It's been a secret of mine, let it be one of yours.
