Dimitri Tiomkin was one of the most prominent composers of Hollywood's Golden Age and beyond, his career spanning a half-century and some of America's most classic films. This sprawling, four-disc anthology (its title a marketing nod to the modern remake of one of Tiomkin's notable collaborations with John Wayne) features new digital recordings of full-bodied performances by the City of Prague Orchestra and Festival Chorus, the most ambitious and comprehensive tribute to the composer yet attempted. There's something here for film score buffs (rarities like a suite from his sci-fi genre-defining Thing From Another World and the "Main Theme" for the pilot of TV's Wild, Wild West) and novice alike; indeed one could scarcely ask for a more complete overview of Tiomkin's robust orchestral oeuvre. Divided into four chapters, disc one chronicles how the Ukrainian immigrant concocted a rich Western film heritage (including such genre landmarks as Red River, High Noon, Gunfight at the O.K. Corral and Rio Bravo) from largely European traditions, while the next two CD's cover his rousing work for epics and thrillers of every stripe, and collaborations with Hitchcock, Wayne, Capra, Stevens and more. The concluding disc pays homage to Tiomkin the unlikely pop tunesmith, via his hit vocal themes to Rawhide, Wild is the Wind and High Noon's "Do Not Forsake Me." --Jerry McCulley

5 out of 5 stars More expensive than the other Essential but worth it........2007-04-22

This is an excellent set of music of Dimitri Tiomkin's music! The 4th disc is short (at just over 30 minutes), but thats because it is just the vocal versions of tracks which appeared in instrumental form throughout the first 3 discs. Whenever you buy a silva screen compilation, the first thing you ask yourself is 'when were these recordings made' and 'do I have these tracks on other compilations? Thankfully, this set has TONS of new recordings, but there is some recycled stuff and they are as follows:

Dial M For Murder is from the 1993 History of Hitchcock Vol. I, while Strangers on a Train is from 1995's History of Hitchcock Vol. II.

Three tracks originate from 1994's "Music From the Films Of John Wayne". They are "The High and the Mighty", "The Alamo - Overture" and "The Alamo - Green Leaves of Summer".

Red River is from 1996's "How The West Was Won: Classic Western Film Scores Vol. One".

The Thing From Another World suite is from the excelllent 1998 set "Alien Invasion: Space And Beyond II"

Many tracks first appeared on "Way Out West: The Essential Western Film Music Collection Vol. Two". They are: "Duel In The Sun", "The Alamo (Davy Crockett)", "Friendly Persuasion", "Giant (Main Theme)", "Gunfight at the OK Corral", "High Noon", "Rio Bravo", and "The Unforgiven (The Need For Love)".

The rest of the tracks are brand spankin new, and most are not available on other discs, so snag this one up in a hurry!

5 out of 5 stars Excellent compilation of an important composer........2004-07-16

This long overdue collection of Tiomkin standards and rarities is a must for any fan of symphonic music; albeit, for film or concert hall. As the liner notes clarify; these recordings are a real labor of love for James Fitzpatrick and the Silva Screen team. Tiomkin is; undoubtedly, one of the most difficult of composers to replicate. This recording comes extremely close to "hitting the nail on the head" particularly with tracks such as: "Across the Texas Panhandle" from the Unforgiven, The Entr'acte from Duel in the Sun, The Guns of Navarone, The War Wagon, and the main title and Jett Rink theme from Giant. This recording is a bargain, particularly for collectors who have sought after many of Tiomkin's composer conducted soundtracks (which are getting harder and harder to obtain). Listeners who enjoy this set should consider seeking out previous cd releases of the soundtracks to "The Guns of Navarone" (SONY, Varese Sarabande), "The Fall of the Roman Empire" (Varese Sarabande, PEG), "55 Days at Peking" (Varese Sarabande), and "The Alamo" :original soundtrack (still available on SONY-Legacy).

5 out of 5 stars "film composer Dimitri Tiomkin gave his all and then some".......2004-07-13

Silva America presents the ultimate in film music during the illustrious career of an icon and legendary composer of film scores ~ "Alamo:Dimitri Tiomkin Essential Film Collection/O.S.T", featuring some long forgotten 53 cues that sent chills and thrills into the pulses of world events ~ selections from a limited collectors edition that would make any "film-score-buff" green with envy.

Tiomkin was born in Ukraine, Russia [1894-1979] attended and graduated from St. Petersburg Academy[studied under the famed composer Glazunov] ~ had a degree in music as well as law ~ came to America in 1925, shown great interest for Native American music early in his film career.

Great fondness for "The Western" ~ "DUEL IN THE SUN" (1946) (Gregory Peck, Jennifer Jones, Joseph Cotton, Lionel Barrymore, Lilian Gish and Charles Bickford - one of biggest and successful epic Westerns ever, score & photography was simply breathtaking), "RED RIVER" (1948) (John Wayne, Monty Cliff and Walter Brennan - the Duke should have won an Oscar for his performance as the aging cantankerous cattle baron)"HIGH NOON" (1952)(classic film with Gary Cooper in his Oscar winning performance of Will Kane), "TENSION AT TABLE ROCK" (1956), "GUNFIGHT AT THE OK CORRAL" (1957)(Burt Lancaster as Wyatt Earp & Kirk Douglas as Doc Holliday pulled this off with the help of the Main Theme), "NIGHT PASSAGE" (1957), "RIO BRAVO" (1959) (top box office leaders John Wayne, Dean Martin, Walter Brennan and Ricky Nelson), "THE YOUNG LAND" (1959) (young Dennis Hopper), "RAWHIDE" (TV Series) (1959-66) (Eric Fleming as trail boss Gil Favor & Clint Eastwood as Rowdy Yates), "THE UNFORGIVEN" (1960) (Burt Lancaster, Audie Murphy and Audrey Hepburn), "THE WILD, WILD WEST" (TV Series) (1965-69)(Tiomkin's music never saw the light of day), "WAR WAGON" (1967) (John Wayne & Kirk Douglas starred) (beautifully melodic) ~ it's easy to see why Tiomkin loved Western lore.

Second disc contains The Epics ~ "LAND OF THE PHARAOHS" (1955) (Jack Hawkins as Pharaoh Cheops and a beautiful Joan Collins as his scheming wife), "55 DAYS AT PEKING" (1963) (Charlton Heston, David Niven and Ava Gardner is the all star cast), "THE FALL OF THE ROMAN EMPIRE" (1964) (featuring Alec Guinness as emperor Marcus Aurelius), "CIRCUS WORLD" (1964) (John Wayne, Claudia Cardinale and Rita Hayworth under the big top) ~ next we Hitchcock Thrillers with "STRANGERS ON A TRAIN" (1951) (a masterpiece film featuring Robert Walker and Farley Granger are both very convincing as we learn, never talked to strangers on a train or anywhere), "DIAL M FOR MURDER" (1954) (tense moments come from Grace Kelly, Ray Milland and Robert Cummings - they don't get any better than this) ~ finally Drama and High Adventure with "HIGH AND MIGHTY" (1954) (another outstanding performance by John Wayne, as the co-pilot of an airline whistling the haunting theme), "GIANT" (1956)(another big epic film with Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, James Dean and Chill Wills show us what it's like to be a Texan, with oil and money), "WILD IS THE WIND" (1957) (Anthony Quinn, Anna Magnani and Anthony Franciosa), "THE GUNS OF NAVARONE" (1961) (World War II film featuring Gregory Peck, Anthony Quinn, David Niven and Stanley Baker on a small Greek Island trying to outwit the Germans and a very big gun) ~ some of Tiomkin's most inspiring themes rise to the surface.

On disc three ~ as we continue with Drama and High Adventures "IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE" (1946) (James Stewart, Donna Reed, Thomas Mitchell, Lionel Barrymore and Ward Bond with wholesome warm and endearing themes from our favorite composer), "TARZAN AND THE MERMAIDS" (1948) (in his 12th film as Tarzan, Johnny Weissmuller still had what it takes to swim and defeat the man-god Balu - Weissmuller and Tiomkin the perfect combination for this Tarzan adventure), "CYRANO DE BERGERAC" (1950) (Jose Ferrer stars as Edmond Rostand's famous swordsman with a even more famous nose), "THE WELL" (1951) (intense cues give the film musical triumphs in final scenes), "THE THING FROM ANOTHER WORLD" (1951) (exciting Howard Hawks film with a score to match), "FRIENDLY PERSUASION" (1956) (director William Wyler shows the life and times of a Quaker family played by Gary Cooper, Dorothy Mcguire and Anthony Perkins during the American Civil War, very touching), "THE ALAMO" (1960) (big budget epic western with Big John Wayne it's producer, director and star as Davy Crockett with a haunting and never to be forgotten "The Green Leaves of Summer"), "TOWN WITHOUT PITY" (1961) (Kirk Douglas in a post-war Germany story, blends jazz themes with Tiomkin signature arrangements) ~ Tiomkin always made the difference when it came to scoring a film.

The last and final disc four ~ The Tiomkin Vocal Songbook featuring "This Then is Texas" (Giant), "Rawhide" (Rawhide), "Do Not Forsake Me" (High Noon), "Follow the River" (Night Passage), "The Ballad of Jett Rink" (Giant), "Thee I Love" (Friendly Percuasion), "It's A Wonderful Life", "Wild Is The Wind", "The High and the Mighty", The Ballad of the War Wagon" (The War Wagon), "Rio Bravo", "Strange are the Ways of Love" (The Young Land), "The Ballad of Jim West" (The Wild Wild West), "The Wild Wild West" (The Wild Wild West) ~ many were hit makers of the day and in the top ten.

Outstanding performances by The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra (Nic Raine, Paul Bateman, Mario Klemens - are the conductors), Crouch End Festival Chorus (David Temple - choir master), featuring vocals by Jason Howard and Keith Ferreira ~ hats off to James Fitzpatrick (producer), Reynold da Silva (executive producer), Olilvia Tiomkin Douglas, John Waxman, Rick Clark and Gareth Williams (associate producers) ~ all film producers and directors welcomed the legendary composer with open arms for their forthcoming projects ~ the "film-score-buff" collectors are ecstatic about this four disc release on the essential film music collection of DIMITRI TIOMKIN, the arrangements and performances are top notch inclusive of HDCD/Dolby Surround.

When listening to the music of a film, you had the feeling of the storyline, characters and convictions of the whole picture, they'll never be another to come this way again ~ Silva America has outdone themselves on this one, it is definitely a five star film score box set...gotta love it!

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful.......2007-04-22

I must confess I am unfamiliar with Copland's "The Tender Land" except for this reissue, which I find to be absolutely magnificent. I realize this is a truncated performance, eliminating what I assume to be a fair amount of spoken dialogue. But I don't care. What is presented here is simply one of the finest American compositions - forget American - one of the finest compositions of the 20th century. Period.

5 out of 5 stars Pure joy.......2005-07-29

The recording of Copland's The Tender Land is alone worth getting this disc. The rest of the vocal works are just a bonus, a very good bonus! Copland directs a definitive account of his opera, and in this compressed version leaves out all the spoken parts of the full length opera, no doubt depriving us of a lot of good music but on the other hand giving listeners a very concise version that is even stronger musically (although dramatically a little lacking in logic because of the missing parts - for example without knowing of the confrontation during the party scene you would find the boys' departure the next morning puzzling, and the CD notes does not elaborate on the plot, which is about the only negative thing you can say about this set). Listening to the opera in this abridged version gives you the feeling of one hit after another, there is not a single weak point in the score and Copland has a gift for word-setting that can turn clumsy texts such as "girls come and go, some are good, some are not so good" into goosebumps stuff (a lovely dedication to Laurie sung by Grandpa). Other high points include the stunning transformation of the traditional Walls of Zion into the quartet piece The Promise Of Living and a rollicking Party Scene, which contains the best in Copland's clever orchestration and rythmic vitality - it seems all of the composers best traits have all come together in this work. Martin's Act 2 Song 'Laurie...You Know, Laurie' is a rare gem or an aria and beautifully sung. Other hidden gems include the comical 'We've Been North'. The cast is impeccable and the entire performance is flawless. Add to that one of those scores that simply win you over from start to finish, and you can't but fall in love with this music. I once thought that nothing could better Appalachian Spring but that was before I discovered this neglected work.

5 out of 5 stars Copland's vocal work.......2002-08-08

And so on this third set of the celebration of Aaron Copland's music, all attention is on his vocal work including the opera, "The Tender Land".

I can't completely explain why I give this five stars after giving the first two sets four stars each. This is just the way the opera, in particular, strikes me. I'm no great opera fan, and to my knowledge, America just has not yet proved itself in the operatic field although it's tried. It will take time, but I do see Copland's work as someday being considered the best example of American opera. This is all subjective opinion, obviously, and I'm sure there are those more knowledgeable who will disagree. So be it.

All in all, these three sets will give you a complete overview of one of America's most important composers.

4 out of 5 stars Clark and Hillman rule.......2006-07-22

It's hard to say who's band put on the better performance for this two disc collection. Gene Clark leads things off with the brevity of a four track set, but it's an explosive one. Chris Hillman drops in next with an eight track contribution that's dripping with diversity, and casts him as the gentler, kinder rocker in the trio. Roger McGuinn's Thunderbyrd checks in last but not least, and despite rolling out a bevy of top notch compositions, he sounds more polished than I think he should, and at times coming off with perhaps less investment in this whole event than his predecessors. The McGuinn-Clark-Hillman reunion that tops off the collection, unfortunately, didn't even make the final cut. I will say this: I think the people who produced the disc got it right in leading off with Clark and Hillman. Disc one is easily the most entertaining of the two, while disc two gradually receeds through McGuinn into the reunion that probably shouldn't have been.

There are definite hightlights to be gleened from the montage, however. Clark's band leads off with the solid rhythm of 'Kansas City Southern' (emphatically pronounced as "SouthREN" by Clark in a thoroughly enjoyable, down-home dialect), and continues with his big guitar sound through 'Denver Or Wherever', the ballad 'Release Me Girl', and the fast-paced 'Hula Bula Man' (surely a Cajun cousin to McGuinn's Hunga Man from 'Lover Of the Bayou'). While the country-rock stylings of Clark emphasize the country over the rock, Chris Hillman reverses the order, prefering the rock over the country. There are highlights galore in this thoughtful set, including the sweet, familiar melody of 'Hot Burrito #2', the upbeat sound of 'Nothing Gets Through To You', the catchy use of horns and fat guitar runs on 'Playing the Fool', and most especially the closer, a fine medley of two of Hillman's finest compositions, 'It Doesn't Matter' and 'Bound To Lose', both of which appeared on the 1972 Manassas double album. In between these stellar tracks, Hillman offers soft country angst ('Quits'), average white-man angst ('The Witching Hour'), and spicy instrumental contributions from fiddle ('Rise and Fall') and slide guitar on the romantic ballad 'Rollin And Tumblin'. Hillman's performance demonstrates just how much his professionalism is underrated.

Disc two offers nine tracks from Roger McGuinn's Thunderbyrd, including a two-song medley on track four. Two years previous to this series of concerts, McGuinn had revived his career by touring with Bob Dylan. Unfortunately, the mainstays of McGuinns catalog, songs such as 'Mr. Spaceman', 'Lover of the Bayou', and 'Chestnut Mare' don't appear as beneficiaries of that revival. The relatively lackluster renditions of these tracks begs the question why McGuinn felt compelled to release them. His early 1970's performances of these compositions with Clarence White and The Byrds are clearly superior. The best performances Thunderbyrd offers are the more subtle numbers such as 'Golden Loom', with its laid back country stylings, and 'It's Gone', a classic 1970's romantic ballad. The only other track of note is the cover of 'American Girl', with McGuinn proving he can imitate Tom Petty every bit as well as he imitates Bob Dylan... and that's a compliment indeed.

Of the three faux Byrds reunion tracks, the opening number, 'So You Want To Be a Rock and Roll Star' is the only one to carry it's own weight. The emotional jolt of 3/5 of the original Byrds line-up being on stage together for the first time in a decade wears off quickly however. 'Mr. Tambourine Man' is rather muddy in the middle, and the vocals sound more like yelling than singing. 'Eight Miles High', in total contrast to its nature, comes off tentative and lacking in energy and intensity.

If you're considering purchasing '3 Byrds Land In London', do so for the privilege of owning some of the best live recordings available of Gene Clark, Chris Hillman, and their solo bands. The McGuinn and faux-Byrds material on disc two is almost entirely superfluous. The packaging offers a modicum of images, and insights from Barry Ballard in the liner notes. There is probably much less to be said about these three bands touring together than you may suspect.

5 out of 5 stars I was there.......2001-07-02

As it says ...I was there. The album captures that absolutely incredible feel of being at a one off event. The first night as the only time they played together. Being a student in the UK in the late 60s I was lucky to see the Byrds play quite few times between 70 and 72, therefore the line-up was not the originals. When I went to this concert the intent was to see them and hope the three originals would play together at some point. They did and I along with all the others there were given a rare treat. I found this CD in '99 and was given a breath of that magical event. This is a classic. If you are a true Byrds fan this is a must, an absolute must.

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Revelations Here.......2001-06-20

It is easy to dismiss artists that we are traveling with in our lifetimes. We set up expectations as listeners and pigeon-hole the artists within the preconceived ideas we have formed of them over the years. So, when I ran across a copy of this CD, I sat down and deliberately set aside my expectations from all three involved. Clark opens up with 4 numbers and it is great to hear him sound so on the money. The band is tight and his vocals have a solid, rough quality that puts the songs up into the 4 star range. Hillman follows with an enjoyable set that covers almost every aspect of his career. (I would have liked to have heard the Souther, Hillman and Furay numbers that the notes mention, somebody needs to get those 2 albums remastered, Hello Rhino!). Like Clark, Hillman tends to be forgotten by many, but his work and talent helped people like Stephen Stills and Gram Parsons move in the direction they wanted to. The best surprise of the CD was the forcefulness of Rick Vito's guitar work on the McGuinn numbers. He really shines on "Lover of the Bayou" and seems to be pushing McGuinn to work a little harder. It was also nice to hear "Chestnut Mare" in a different arrangement. The Byrds numbers do seem forced and a little hurried, but when you come down to it, it was nice of the three of them to go the extra mile. Buy this because of the excellence of the solo work, not for the Byrd numbers and you will not be let down. (In the rush to deify Gram Parsons, none of these gentlemen should ever be forgotten, especially Hillman.).

5 out of 5 stars GREAT GUITAR BY RICK VITO OF THUNDERBYRD.......2000-10-13

THE ROGER MCGUINN band on this CD features Rick Vito on lead guitar. The selection of songs make a great jump-off for his guitar style which is reminiscent of Dire Straits' Mark Knopfler. What we have here is a clean cluster of guitar breaks with even and charismic accenting. Pay particular attention to the song "LOver Of the Bayou". I e-mailed Rick Vito about this particular performance and he responded by telling me that his style has changed over the years and that he found a recent listening of this 1977 recording,"moving". Rick went on to play with Fleetwood Mac. Definately check out this CD.

2 out of 5 stars From BYRDS Fan's in CALIFORNIA.......2000-04-08

This CD had some of the best songs we have heard by THE BYRDS. Some of the songs had the sounds of the early years of the (four members) BYRDS Group. Some of the songs were also some of worst songs we think we have heard by THE BYRDS. The songs by Roger McGuinn's Thunderbyrd Band sounded the best and the last three songs sung by McGuinn/Hillman/ Clark were like the BYRDS of the late 60's and 70's. The sound quality was not that great. If you are a truly a BYRDS fan you probably would miss out if you did own this set.

    5 out of 5 stars Insipid lyrics-just what I wanted!.......2001-01-27

I received this CD several days ago and have just ordered two more copies of it so I can play it in the car and living room as well as on the computer. I also have "Vienna, City of My Dreams" sung by Placido Domingo in German and love them both. Many years ago before I ever knew who Richard Tucker was, I bought his record, "Vienna, My City of Dreams" with those English lyrics-I wore out three copies of that record and am finally getting it on CD-regardless of the language he sings in, Richard Tucker's music is a treasure and how wonderful that it will never be silenced!!

5 out of 5 stars An Operetta Gem.......2000-06-29

For those of us who have an unbridled passion for operetta, this CD is a treasure. The focus here is Richard Tucker. Fourteen of the 22 tracks are by him. There is much love and affection in these readings. The english translations are just fine. Original languages are just as confectionary in their own tongue. This is part of the magic--part of the fantasy. I would like to have seen this as a single vehicle for Mr. Tucker. The other selections were extracted from full production highlights from other albums and were transition works from operetta to American musical comedy--Song of Norway, Show Boat and Kismet. While nice, they do not necessarily qualify as essential operetta. My only real concern with the collection is Mr. Tucker's use of falsetto for the concluding high note on four selections. This was particularly disconcerting in the revered Siecynski favorite, VIENNA, MY CITY OF DREAMS. The transition to the high note resembled a yoddle. He hits the same notes so beautifully in the other numbers. But what the heck, you still have 10 other solos to treasure. An investment well worth the price.

2 out of 5 stars Beautiful Singing Sabotaged by Insipid Lyrics.......2000-02-27

    Kitch!

Wonderful singing, really wonderful, but 12 (of 22) of the songs are marred by the insipid lyric translations of Merl Puffer and Deena Cavalieri. Unfortunately, the singers sing so well that you hear every word with crystal clarity. Here are some lines: Darling trust in me, for I'll always be a loving subject waiting your command...for a love sincere, conquers every fear...champagne will flow, and our hearts will glow...social pressures I faithfully shun, I defy, those who pry, boredom exists everywhere, and I'll escape from it's snare...ah, you see, what love can be...I languish as I linger, from love's fragile bloom, if you'll but raise a finger, I'll clime to your room, the night is growing colder, the world is growing older, don't turn an icy shoulder. I am no expert on poetry but I think that stuff is awful. If these lyrics won't bother you, these are beautifully sung operetta/show tunes. Tucker and Della Casa are fantastic.

4 out of 5 stars An enchanting disc.......1999-04-15

An enchanting disc with Richard Tucker in quite unbelieveably fine voice, even purists will quickly adjust to the slightly cute "English lyrics"

The great surprise of this disc is that it is sung in English using slightly suspect English lyrics, rather than translations it seems, of the non-American works. Mostly it does not matter much, occasionally they are an improvement or even enlighten the music, such as Lehar's "I have been in love before" from his Paganini. In other cases they seem quite unnecessary or simply wrong and difficult to sing to boot. Given that Tucker also sometimes applies an accent that seems vaguely Viennese and it might seem to add up to a recipe for disaster. Not so at all. The voice wins you over within minutes and the recording and remastering were clearly undertaken with equal and genuine affection.

Then there are the pieces sung by other than the tenor, such as Lisa Della Casa singing Vilja and the Merry Widow Waltz, once again in English, with her individual timbre complete with her usual melancholy tones plus simply exquisite top notes, no strain at all. Della Casa has a distinct and charming (natural, of course) Swiss-German accent mainly evident in the Waltz she sings & hums with John Reardon.

In between we find Tucker singing one of the sacrileges of the re-constructed English lyrics, Zeller's "Roses from Tyrol", it misses the originals dialectic charm, "Schenkt man sich Rosen in Tyrol" does not translate somehow as "In the Tyroler lover knows the special promise of a rose for every blosom that you send swears that your love will never end.......". But the singing is so lovely and the last top note bewitchingly floated you forget the quibbles.

The tempos are leisurely but never quite pure schmalz, even in the Grieg' Song of Norway.

The worst lyric irritation I found to be Heuberger's "Im Chambre separee" as "in our seculded rendevue." English instead of German and French as well as being sung by a tenor, for which it may well have been written but here it lacks the soprano accompaniment. I prefer this as two soprano voices in the original sprachen. The text here really is not well matched to the notes though Tucker fits the syllable's across octaves where necessary, swallowing others that can't be fitted in. Again he finishes on an amazing high note floated literally into the distance.

I am amazed how Allers & Tucker make the Romberg piece sound like an operratic version of Rawhide. I adore Hadley & Swenson in "Stranger in Paradise" as well as the others, especially the rare Della Casa and as I type this I am listening to it all on the computer's CD player for the N'th time since I unwrapped my considerably less than 10 bucks worth.

Recommended with reservations on the lyrics but not the extent of content. For purists it will provide many hours of unravelling fact from fiction whilst producing a glow of well being in the process.

5 out of 5 stars What A Spiritual Journey This Album Takes You To !!!!!.......2004-08-18

        Hi Everyone,

My name is Kenny Ellis. I, like Natalie and Jared, was blessed to be a part of this project as well. I am featured on "We Won't Let Go", (Verse 2).

I can't begin to tell you what a blessing it was to be a part of this album.

I think one of the greatest things about it was how people from all over the U.S. joined together as one big happy family. We had prayer and bible study every morning before going into the studio. We also had time to visit local churches in the area which was so much fun.

We were all rooting for one another while each of us were doing our vocals. I know a lot of prayers were going up for me as I was having difficulty with anxiety and depression and I will have to say here and now, I want to thank Marsha, Cindy, Glenna, and the rest of the gang for their prayers and understanding with me, as I know it wasn't easy.

It was absolutely amazing to hear this project from start to finish and believe that it was really us doing it. Many times in the control room while others were recording their vocals, the spirit of God was so strong, I couldn't keep the waterworks from flowing. I'm sure many wondered if I was rejoicing or crying over depression, but It was all the spirit of the Lord.

Since it was so close to Christmas when we worked on this project, I can truly say this experience and these people, gave me the best and most memoriable Christmas, I have ever had.

I encourage everyone to purchase this album and listen to it. I promise you, you won't be disappointed. "Songs Of Praise" has something for everyone young and old.

If you are feeling down or just need some good praise and worship music to jam to, to and from work, I recommend this.

My prayer is that everyone who hears this album will be blessed beyond measure. Whatever your needs may be, nothing is impossible with God. I am a testimony of that.

Just know we love you, but most importantly, God loves you and theres no problem too big or too small for God to take care of.

Sincerely In Christ - Kenny Ellis - Savannah, GA

        5 out of 5 stars Great Inspiration.......2004-07-28

I may be a little prejudice because I am also a vocalist on the SOPFASL CD. My name is Natalie Phillips and I sang One In Christ on Songs Of Praise From A Strange Land. I agree with Jared! The experience is evident in the music. It was all almost surreal- the spirit of God truly led us through the recording process. Our focus daily was to help each other be the best vessel of God we could be. I still listen to the CD a lot- for months I listened to nothing else. Each time I hear it I am taken back to that spiritual journey we all went on together. I believe almost everyone who has gotten a copy from me has felt the spirit of God while listening to Songs Of Praise From A Strange Land. Be sure and stick it in your computer to enjoy all the extras on it! I took most of the video and photos as well and am very glad to have captured some of the spirit in which SOPFASL was done! Thanks to all who have kept the CD on Pride Christian Music charts. Thanks to Marsha Stevens for her vision and dedication to God and music.

5 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE SONGS OF PRAISE FROM SOME VERY SPECIAL PEOPLE!.......2003-07-09

In a word - WOW! This is an incredible CD and a must have for any Christian! Just because the music is all song by Christian gays and lesians should not make any difference to anyone! You see, gays and lesbians can be Christians too!

I discovered Marsha Stevens when she performed at an MCC church in Grand Rapids, Michigan. (RMCC) I feel in love with her music and with her Christian lifestyle and teachings. I have all of her albums -- even the out of print ones! -- and treasure each and every one of them! As an added bonus, the incredible Marsha Stevens song "Wash Over Me" from her "The Waiting's Over" album is included. Yes, you need buy "The Waiting's Over" too.

God Bless each and every one of you, gays and lesbians and heterosexuals alike. Please buy this CD and you won't be sorry, instead you will uplifted and we all need that in today's world!

        5 out of 5 stars Great Praise & Worship.......2003-06-28

I got the album after Marsha performed at my church.
Have been listening to it almost constantly!
The range of music styles: from pure worship to pop to country is well worth the price.
The title says it all, as those of us in the community sometimes feel when we are judged by other "Christians".
Several songs (such as "I Long To Worship" and "Release The Harvest") really would belong in a worship service.

        5 out of 5 stars Amazing Album.......2003-04-15

My name is Jared K. Wengert, one of the featured artists on this project.

One thing not mentioned but that you'll see in the short video on this multimedia CD-ROM is the joy, laughter, praise, and wonderful time each of us had both inside and out of the recording studio. A lot of us were nervous, silly, hospitable, overwhelmed, and, most of all, tremendously blessed by the entire experience. From the shopping mall "impromptu" group photos to dinner at various restaurants, to being in God's Word daily, to riding in the passenger's seat of an ambulence, I knew beyond doubt that God's hand had guided each of us to Nashville.

If you are gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered, questioning, or refuse to believe that "those people" could do the will of God, purchase this CD! I guarantee you eyes will be opened and your soul blessed.

5 out of 5 stars This is the real television soundtrack! No imitation........2004-10-20

It is clearly stated on the CD cover, that this is the Original Television Soundtrack, by Charles Fox. Furthermore, the guy who played Conan on the television series wasn't Arnold. Anyway, this IS the soundtrack to the television series, just like the CD says, so, if you buy this CD thinking it's something else, then you can only blame yourself.

3 out of 5 stars Cheap imitation of the real Conan.......1999-03-27

I purchased this CD in a store, thinking that it was the real Conan soundtrack. Only later did I notice that the "Conan" on the cover wasn't Arnold, just someone who looked very similar. The music is decent, but not powerfull and somewhat dull at times. My advice is to go for the real thing, not an imitaton.

        5 out of 5 stars Excellent Choice!.......1999-02-08

This is a great CD for all fans of Conan type of music. Charles Fox did an excellent job in making you feel as if you are part of a great adventure. Definately worth every penny!
