4 out of 5 stars Fine Supplementary Summary.......2007-08-01

The only thing better than obtaining Creedence Clearwater Revival's 'Chronicles' is getting all their original albums first hand. One minor problem with 'Chronicles 2' is that the song sequence is sometimes out of place. This second collection is basically the leftovers of 'Chronicles' 1. But, boy, what leftovers.

As a testament to the greatness of the group, the best songs, including "Born on the Bayou," "Walking on the Water," and "Molina," are formidable indeed. Also essential are hidden gems like "It Came Out of the Sky" and "Pagan Baby". Despite their fame for original songs, the collection provides some fine covers of "Good Golly, Miss Molly," "Hello Mary Lou," and "The Midnight Special". "Cotton Fields" really puts some life in an old traditional song. "Don't Look Now" is a decent variation of "Lookin' Out My Back Door". Although some of the rest isn't always as great. "Wish I Could Hideaway" and "It's Just a Thought" are good, but pale in comparison to the rest, and "Suzie Q, Pt. 2" is a decent, but non-essential, elaboration on the original.

Especially for those without a limitless budget, 'Chronicles 2' is a fine supplementary sampler, continuing the greatness for most of us who can't get enough of CCR or 'Chronicles'.

5 out of 5 stars Fogerty.......2007-06-10

Great value. If you are into the 60s' and 70s' you will love this one.

5 out of 5 stars CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL JUST KEEPS ROCKIN' AND ROLLIN'........2007-02-13

I will be writing a review on the legendary compilation album entitled "CHRONICLE, VOLUME TWO, TWENTY GREAT CCR CLASSICS" by one of Rock's most sacred legendary bands of all-time, I give you one of America's pride and joy's, CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL. This legendary album would be originally released in 1986 on Vinyl/LP, Cassette and Compact Disc on the Fantasy Records label. Like "CHRONICLE, VOLUME ONE, 20 GREATEST HITS," "CHRONICLE, VOLUME TWO, 20 GREAT CCR CLASSICS is released on a special Two-24-Karat Gold Compact Disc set edition. The 24-Karat Gold coating produces a highly reflective surface for the laser signal. In fact, the Gold CD is the ultimate experience in recorded music. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary compilation album or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible.

The whole world was blessed with the original "CHRONICLE, VOLUME ONE, 20 GREATEST HITS" when it was released in 1976. Now the whole world would be blessed again ten years later with the release of "CHRONICLE, VOLUME TWO, TWENTY GREAT CCR CLASSICS" in 1986. Its only appropriate that Fantasy Records would release another compilation collection on this legendary band, there was just not enough room to put all of their hit songs on the first volume. When you listen to "CHRONICLE, VOLUME TWO, TWENTY GREAT CCR CLASSICS," you realize that this band really recorded some fantastic hits throughout their whole career. It also makes you wonder what took Fantasy Records so long (Ten years) to release the second volume. In my opinion, "CHRONICLE, VOLUME TWO, TWENTY GREAT CCR CLASSICS" is another true testament of the sheer greatness, graceful genius and a fine tribute to a legendary band that has already been proven to be ahead of their time.

Now we get to the most important part of the whole review, the music. If you want to hear the true Rocker's on this compilation album, listen to the songs such as "Walk On The Water," "Susie Q (Part two)," the breathtaking "Born On The Bayou," the Little Richard classic "Good Golly Miss Molly," the rugged "Tombstone Shadow," "It Came Out Of The Sky," the Elvis like Rocker "My Baby Left Me," the wicked "Pagan Baby," the soulful heartfelt "It's Just A Thought," the tough rockin' "Molina," the spirited "Born To Move" and the Ricky Nelson classic "Hello Mary Lou."

The slow Rock Ballads on this compilation album are the classics such as "Wrote A Song For Everyone" and "(Wish I Could) Hideaway." CCR could really show their sensitive side by playing a little more mellower.

The only slow Blues Rocker on this compilation album is the classic song "Night Time Is The Right Time." This Blues number is a true heartfelt song recorded the CCR way. CCR could really play the Blues.

The Country Rockers on this compilation album are the classic songs such as "Cotton Fields," "Don't Look Now (It Ain't You Or Me)," the ever popular "The Midnight Special," "Before You Accuse Me" and "Lookin' For A Reason." These are pure Country Rockers, my favorite is "The Midnight Special."

Overall, this is one hell of compilation album that compliments the other original volume perfectly.

I would like to highly recommend purchasing this second volume compilation album to own as a valuable and important part of his or her own personal music collection. This legendary compilation album has already been proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many years to come, NOW AND FOREVER.

In closing, CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL will forever be remembered as the people's band that represented the youth culture and the bikers of the turbulent sixties and beyond. Their music expressed the feeling of how the times were unfolding during the turbulent sixties and into the seventies. When CCR broke up, one of Rock's greatest all-time bands would be silenced and laid to rest. The world was waiting for a reunion but all hopes would be shattered with the untimely death of TOM FOGERTY on 6 September 1990. FOGERTY would die as a result of AIDS given to him through a blood transfusion. Prior to his death, the FOGERTY brothers did not get along and would be fighting constantly throughout their whole career together. TOM FOGERTY was establishing himself in his own right as a songwriter and singer but remained in the shadow of his brother JOHN FOGERTY throughout their whole career. TOM FOGERTY would be the first CCR member to quit the band and go solo. CCR would later break up in 1972. However, the remaining surviving members would have a brief reunion while receiving Rock's highest ultimate honor of being inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame in January 1993. As of this date, JOHN FOGERTY resolved his conflict issues and legal disputes with his old record label Fantasy Records and is now back with his old label better than ever keeping the CCR legend alive. So here's to you John, the late great Tom, Stu and Clifford. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N ROLL HISTORY," am I wrong? Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my Eugène Richards

4 out of 5 stars A closet-cleaning, but a damn good one.......2004-11-01

This twofer is a typical '70s closet cleaning, but contains most of the good songs Taylor cut for Stax, before he left for Malaco (in Stax's demise) and all their drum machines. Contains much of his macho posturing tunes like the "Jody" series, but also some of his light political work, like "I Am Somebody." If you're looking for a singer who reminds you of that guy at the other end of the bar, Taylor's your man. Since it's doubtful he'll get a career-wide retrospective that will tie together the gritty Stax work, the Columbia disco years and the Malaco mildness, one can settle for this and a copy of Disco 9000.

4 out of 5 stars best set out there?.......2007-04-13

JSP is known throughout the music collector world for having the highest in sound quality (for a relatively small label devoted only to reissues, box sets etc). This set includes all of the master takes Bird appeared on on the Savoy, Dial, Guild, Bel-Tone, and Comet labels, during the years 1944-48, plus a disc containing most of his pre-bop recordings, including demos, some of which are very rare (though not very interesting in my opinion). The main stuff, '44-'48, is some of the most important music recorded ever, and consequently it's not hard to come by- what makes this set unique is the combination of price, quality, and completeness. This set can be compared with "The Complete Savoy & Dial Master Takes", which has only 3 discs and costs about $50. Granted, the sound quality on that professional reissue set is noticeably superior, but JSP is nearly there and like I said, better than MOST. You could also compare this set to the similarly-priced Proper box set, "Boss Bird", four discs covering the same ground, with highly inferior sound quality- and it's a little more expensive! For one who's never dug Charlie Parker, I'd get a single disc, like "The Legendary Dial Masters vol. 1" or even a general comp like his volume of the "Ken Burns' Jazz" series. If you find yourself a total Parker freak, the step after that would be "The Complete Savoy and Dial Studio Recordings" which coves the same ground, with highest quality of all, plus every known alternate take, demo, etc- 8 discs, $80, and increasingly harder to come by. OR, if you'd prefer to spend $25 to get pretty much the same thing (minus alt takes and a little sound), this box set will definitely do.

5 out of 5 stars Tom Pethic.......2007-01-31

Bird was the greatest altoist, period. These are some rare sides with Bird with a vocalist...Bird Lives

5 out of 5 stars Sounds Great.......2005-12-02

I own both the Complete Dial and Savoy recordings, and the sound on this set blows both of those away. As another reviewer pointed out, the first disc contains a bit of hiss, but other than that, this is the best sounding CP I have heard.

Combine that with the quality of Bird's playing on these tracks, and you can't beat it. There is such joy, emotion, and straight up fire in his playing it is easy to see how Bird burst on the scene and forever changed jazz (and for that matter American) music.

5 out of 5 stars Bravo Mr Kendall.......2005-11-20

JSP, run by an eccentric British jazz fanatic called Ted Kendall, has a habit of turning out box sets of older jazz recordings that put the big companies to shame.

Having put out the best available set of Hot Fives, Kendall turns his attention to the second most important jazz recordings of all time - the Savoy and Dial sessions of Charlie Parker.

I am totally new to bebop, having cut my teeth on Coltrane and Miles Davis. This box set is like the New Testament of jazz - Charlie Parker and his compatriots had discovered a radically new way of playing jazz, bebop, in a series of low budget recordings that mark the Anno Domini of postwar music.

The centrepiece is the legendary Ko Ko session of November 1945 - with the war over, the ban on recording was lifted, and Parker could reveal his discoveries to the world. Ko Ko itself is possibly one of the three most important jazz cuts of all time (along with West End Blues and Body and Soul) - a dazzling improvisation entirely on chord changes, with no reference to the original melody ("Cherokee", by Paul Whiteman) at all!

JSP has seen fit to include excellent editions of all the Savoy and Dial master takes - that's right, ALL of them (although there has been some discussion over the fact that alternate takes have been substituted in some cases - presumably because Kendall prefers the alternates). The box also constitutes a studio archaeology - because fully two discs of the five contain material from BEFORE the epoch-making Ko Ko session. It includes, too, the notorious "Lover Man" session of 1946, when Parker was strung out, drunk out of his mind, and had to be held up to the mike - a slurred solo of genuine pain, unthinkable from the swing era.

This is the real deal - cheap, well packaged and well transferred - if you are starting out in bebop you cannot do better.

Eddie Floyd, born on June 25, 1935 in Montgomery, Alabama, had 18 Top 100 R&B hits from 1966 to 1977, 13 of which crossed over into the Billboard Pop charts, and 16 of them are in this compilation. That's a far better average than most.

A charter member of the late 50s/early 60s group The Falcons, after leaving the group in 1962 to pursue a solo career he found the going tough over four hitless years while bouncing from Lupine, to Atlantic, to Safice (a label he formed with Al Bell and Chester Simmons).

But in 1962 he found a home with Stax where he started off with a bang taking Knock On Wood b/w the prophetic Got To Make A Comeback to # 1 R&B and # 28 Hot 100 that December. The following year he had three hits - Raise Your Hand (# 16 R&B/# 79 Hot 100), Love Is A Doggone Good Thing (# 30 R&B/# 97 Hot 100), and On A Saturday Night (# 22 R&B/# 92 Hot 100).

1968 produced two more, I've Never Found A Girl (To Love Me Like You Do) which peaked at # 2 R&B and # 40 Hot 100, and a cover of the 1962 Sam Cooke and 1965 Animals' hit Bring It On Home To Me which became his second biggest Hot 100 hit at # 17 (it also went to # 4 R&B).

Three more followed in 1969 - I've Got To Have Your Love (# 50 R&B/# 102 Hot 100 "bubble under"), Don't Tell Your Mama (Where You've Been) which settled at # 18 R&B and # 73 Hot 100, and Why Is The Wine Sweeter (On The Other Side) which reached # 30 R&B/# 98 Hot 100. He repeated the pattern in 1970 with California Girl (#11 R&B/# 45 Hot 100), a cover of the 1965 Temptations hit My Girl (# 43 R&B/# 116 Hot 100 "bubble under"), and The Best Years Of My Life (# 29 R&B/# 118 Hot 100 "bubble under").

The hits then became spread out with only one in each of 1971 (Blood Is Thicker Than Water - # 33 R&B) and 1972 (Yum Yum Yum (I Want Some) - # 49 R&B/# 122 Hot 100 "bubble under"), two in 1973 (Baby, Lay Your Head Down (Gently In My Bed) (# 50 R&B) and the flipside Check Me Out (# 58 R&B). Only the flip is in this set, although you can get the A-side on his compilation Soul Street. The song Soul Street - a # 65 R&B in 1974 - is here however.

After a two year chart absence Eddie resurfaced in 1977 in a duet with Dorothy Moore on the Malaco label, taking We Should Really Be In Love to # 74 R&B. That can be found on the CD The Last Soul Company.

He was also a prolific writer, contributing hits for the likes of Solomon Burke, Otis Redding, and Wilson Pickett.

4 out of 5 stars BRING IT ON HOME TO ME.......2000-06-24

THIS SONG HAS A LOT OF MEMORIES FOR ME. IT WAS THE LATE 60'S WHEN WE WOULD HAVE NEIGHBORHOOD PARTIES, ALL THE KIDS WOULD STAND IN TWO ROWS AND DANCE UP AND DOWN THE LINE. THAT IS WHEN NEIGHBORHOOD PARTIES WERE FUN AND SAFE. I TOLD ALL MY FAMILY TO LOOK UP AMAZON.COM BECAUSE THEY WILL FIND ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING. I AM LOOKING FORWARD IN BUYING IN, YOU CAN'T FIND THIS CD ANYWHERE. THANK YOU FOR HAVING SUCH A GREAT SELECTION.

4 out of 5 stars Pure Soul.......2005-08-09

I love this album, because this is what true soul is about!! "The Sweeter He Is," "I'll Be the Other Woman," and "I'll Understand" are a few examples of the funk and soul that came from this group. Unlike Glass House, the Soul Children had an extremely funky, soulful, gospel-like sound that could only be produced by Stax. Their harmonies were raw, loud, and kicking!! If you love Isaac Hayes, The Staple Singers, or Albert King, you'll love this.

5 out of 5 stars The best sounds around.......2005-08-09

I enjoyed the soul children very much, and I would to have
more of their recording.

5 out of 5 stars This cd is great!.......1999-07-29

This cd is one of the greatest by the Soul Children. I feel that the Soul Children is one of the greatest groups of the 70's and would like to hear more from them. Their songs were from the heart, and as a listener you could feel it.

ringtone88.com nds of the 1960s retained as much a sense of the roots of rock & roll as did Creedence Clearwater Revival. Their music is rife with country, rockabilly, and R&B influences, a combination that produced several hit singles--most of which are present on this collection. These include "I Heard It Through the Grapevine," "Lodi," "Up Around the Bend,""Who'll Stop the Rain," and of course "Bad Moon Rising." This is an excellent greatest-hits collection, and a perfect introduction to the music of a band that has been enduringly influential. This gold version of the title offers superior sound quality for a higher price than the standard-issue CD. --Genevieve Williams

5 out of 5 stars One of the most essential CDs of all-time.......2007-04-22

Creedence Clearwater Revival's "Chronicle" is one of the first CDs any music fan should buy. It's a flawless collection of some of the greatest American music ever recorded.

5 out of 5 stars CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL IS A REAL ROCK N' ROLL BAND PLAYING REAL ROCK N' ROLL MUSIC. .......2007-02-12

I will be writing a review on a band that needs no formal introduction. The world in general, to this very day, is still felt by their influence despite disbanding in July 1972. The roaring sixties would be the decade that would produce Rock's most elite bands. CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL would be one of those bands that would be born in the mist of the sixties and deliver some of Rock's most sacred classic songs. The album I'm about to review is the result of some of CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL'S most sacred classic songs. This compilation album would be titled as "CHRONICLE, THE 20 GREATEST HITS." This legendary compilation album was originally released in 1976 on Vinyl/LP and cassette on the Fantasy Records label. As always, if I hear any new additional information concerning this legendary compilation album or the artist, I will edit this review immediately so that you the consumer will get the best informative and most accurate review possible.

CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL is for real. CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL will always be remembered for being the peoples band and not just for the real tough and rugged sound that went through their amplifiers and microphones. When you hear their music, you know right off the bat that it is truly CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL. There is nobody that can play real raw Rock n' Roll music like they can. What's even more fascinating is that CCR never used any synthesizers, gadgets or enhancements to improve their overall style of sound that the band would forever be remembered for. CCR played their music with such confidence and authority that they would play in your face with their motto "what you hear is what you get." What CCR also should have said is "you've already heard the rest, now come hear the best. CCR'S sound is so rare and unique that nobody has ever dared to copy or emulate them in anyway shape or form other than the tribute band named CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVISITED. When brothers John Fogerty on lead guitar, vocals and the late great Tom Fogerty on rhythm guitar met up and recruited Stu Cook on bass and Doug Clifford on drums, a rare band would be born with a rare sound that would forever identify them in a very unique way. CCR'S music is so bad a*s that their rugged tough music style will forever always be associated with all bikers and be labeled as biker music. In my opinion, "CHRONICLE, THE 20 GREATEST HITS" is a true testament of their most celebrated Rockers and is a fine tribute to a real band that was truly ahead of their time. CCR represented the people and the youth culture of the turbulent roaring sixties and it showed through their music.

In my opinion, every single Rocker listed on this album is nothing short of outstanding. All I will tell you is if you really want to hear some real Rock n' Roll, hear the following Rockers such as "Susie Q," Fogerty's composition Rocker that would later become Ike and Tina Turner's signature classic song "Proud Mary," "Bad Moon Rising," "Green River," "Commotion," "Down On The Corner," "Fortunate Son," the Rock band anthem "Travelin' Band," "Up Around The Bend," "Run Through The Jungle," "Lookin' Out My Back Door," the Marvin Gaye and Gladys Knight and The Pips classic song "I Heard It Through The Grapevine," "Have You Ever Seen The Rain," "Hey Tonight" and "Sweet Hitch-Hiker." Believe me when I say that these Rockers kick a*s.

CCR also has a mellower side to their Rock style and it is evident in legendary classic songs such as "I Put A Spell On You," "Lodi," "Who'll Stop The Rain," the encouraging classic "Long As I Can See The Light" and the emotional hard hitting "Someday Never Comes."

Overall, this is one hell of a real a*s kicking album worth checking out. Hearing this whole collection might make one think that how can anybody record and put out great music like this constantly and consistently throughout their whole glorious career.

I would like to encourage and highly recommend that everyone purchase this legendary album to own as a valuable and important part of their own personal music collection. This is not just any album, but a true rare unique piece of Rock n' Roll history. This legendary compilation album has already proven to stand the test of time and will always be around to be enjoyed, appreciated and cherished for many more years to come, NOW AND FOREVER. What's more is that there is a Volume Two compilation album with more of CCR'S most sacred classic Rockers that I have to review at a later date so stay tuned.

In closing, with CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL already disbanded since 1972 due to management and record label conflicts and the untimely death of John Fogerty's brother Tom Fogerty on 6 September 1990, it now seems unlikely that a real CCR reunion would ever take place. However, there was a brief reunion with all of the remaining members and became CCR one more time. This historic reunion happened as a result of receiving the highest ultimate honor of being inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame in January 1993. With contract disputes and obligations resolved between John Fogerty and his old label Fantasy Records, Fogerty is now back recording on his old label again and bringing back the sound that made CCR the household name that they would forever be known for. With this in mind, Fogerty is adding more to the CCR legend with new tales and stories to make into new chapters in the life and storied career of one of the greatest Rock bands of all-time, CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL. So here's to you John, the late great Tom, Stu and Doug. And as the saying goes, "AND THE REST IS ROCK N' ROLL HISTORY," am I wrong? Thanks for reading my review and I hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it for your reading pleasure. I also hope that you will read all of my other reviews in the near future when time permits. CREEDENCE CLEARWATER REVIVAL LIVES. JOHN FOGERTY RULES. R.I.P. TOM FOGERTY, Born 9 November 1941, Died 6 September 1990. Long Live Rock n' Roll. Rock out always and take it easy. Forever In Rock, John L.

5 out of 5 stars Rock 'n Roll, Blues and Country Influenced - and fun too!.......2006-06-28

My first introduction to CCR was "Cosmos Factory," released in the dark ages of 1970. What a great introduction to CCR. Fully 7 of the 11 songs from that album are represented on this collection of greatest hits. CCR released 7 original albums, and though "Chronicle" includes 20 songs from those albums, someone later decided to release a "Chronicle II" that included another 20 CCR songs, including two more of the "Cosmos Factory" songs.
CCR had a very unique sound, owing in part to John Fogerty's unusual, yet very listenable, voice. CCR has been called rockabilly by some, but I prefer to see CCR as part of the diversification of rock music that led to the popularity of groups such as The Eagles. Yes, there is some influence of what was once known as Hillbilly or bluegrass, but there is just as much influence from rock and roll and country. There may even be a flavor of folk music.

Sometimes the music sounds almost like classic rock and roll, as you listen to songs such as "Proud Mary." Other times the sound is almost contemporary with the early 70s in songs like "Who'll Stop the Rain." Other times the music seems to transcend all genres in songs like "Up Around the Bend," which starts out like a hard rock song, and then reveals a country base in the harmonies and the lyrics.

Then there are blues-influenced songs such as "Have You Ever Seen the Rain" and "I Put a Spell on You." "Run through the Jungle" has influences that might remind you of Jimi Hendrix, yet blues are also evident. The lyrics will recall images of the Viet Nam war. Another Viet Nam war related song is "Fortunate Son."

Occasionally CCR's lyrics create odd mixtures. "Looking Out My Backdoor" has lyrics that would fit well with many of the psychedelic songs of the era, yet is played with a country-rock style. These contradictions are part of what made CCR a great and novel group.

There are a couple of versions of this CD available. This version is a gold CD that some fans prefer when available. You may want to survey the versions available before selectin the one that best meets your needs.

I enjoy music that creates a trend without trying to do so. A true artist is one who does what they want to do for themselves. When they become successful, that is fine, but they do so on their own terms. CCR was such a group. This CD collects some of their better known songs, and is a great addition to any collection. However, please keep going after you've bought this one. You will find that there is a lot of good music left on their albums. Enjoy!

4 out of 5 stars Hurrah for CCR.......2002-02-01

It's hard to believe how good this album sounds when it was recorded so long ago. A lot of the tracks are monaural. CCR was a very simple band with no big band sound yet they could rock it with guitars bass and a scattered sax solo. These were simpler time and the Chartres, la cathédrale

Product Description

Formed in Petersburg, Virginia in the early 90s, The Ill Biskits released their 1st single on the independent NYC label Khari Entertainment in 1994. The single, "God Bless Your Life" contains the rare and much sought after BSide track "22 Years", which was produced by none other than, Hip Hop legend Lord Finesse. The single generated a solid buzz and earned the duo strong spins at College radio and Hip Hop stations in Chicago, New York and San Francisco as well as with mixtape DJ's at clubs across the US. In 1995, after getting the attention of major label Atlantic Records, the duo signed an album deal, and went onto to release two more singles; the rerelease of "God Bless Your Life" (minus the cuts contained on the Khari Ent. 12") and "Chill Factor b/w Hypnotic Blessings". The full-length album, "Chronicle Of Two Losers", was completed, but never commercially released. However, promo copies of the album were pressed and released in very limited numbers on CD & Cassette only. Little else was known about the duo who, on the evidence of the material they released in their short period in the game, would undoubtedly have went on to achieve great things in the Hip Hop universe... That is, until now, as Khari Entertaiment has resurfaced to finally release this mid 90s work of art to the world-at-large. Having dug in the files and retrieved the original masters, the re-release includes not only the original unreleased Atlantic LP, but 6 bonus tracks (including "22 Years"). Complete with original artwork, the 2007 release includes classic production from Lord Finesse (D.I.T.C.), Buckwild (D.I.T.C.), Jesse West, Myke Loe, and others. In a time where Hip-Hop creativity is lacking, "Chronicle Of Two Losers" is a refreshing throwback to the golden-era of skilled emcees spitting thoughtful lyrics over rich, hard-drummed sample based production.
