This one really has all the songs most people are looking for, i.e. "Maragritaville," "Cheeseburger in Paradise," etc.

This is the greatest hits album for confirmed Parrotheads. I turned in my copy of the American greatest hits album, "Songs You Know By Heart," years ago. This import adds, to my mind, two songs that are better than much of SYKBH: "Last Mango in Paris," which is a classic rocking singalong and the expatriate's theme song, "Banana Republics," which will bring a lump to the throat of anyone who's lived a few thousand miles from their birthplace.

While I usually just raid my Buffett collection to create mix tapes, "All the Great Hits" manages to be a great mix on its own, and is one of Buffett's few albums I just drop into the CD player and listen to straight, over and over.

A must have for Parrotheads and well worth the extra money.

Jimmy's music on this CD is outstanding as usual (five stars), this is a good CD for someone who wants to get a taste of his music but isn't a diehard fan. All these songs are on his non-import releases. If your a serious collector you already have these great songs so there is no reason to add this CD. For the music lover who wants a variety of music from a great artist this ones for you - who knows you may be back to become a collector of all the Buffett originals.

A new generation of music lovers deserves to know, understand and appreciate the greatness of Mario Lanza. Five decades after his passing, millions of lovers of "grand voices" still are held in awe by the power, passion and beauty of his voice.

This selection of recordings has a number of fine selections that give a small "flavor" of his fantastic talent and skills. It is a good beginning for someone who wants to know "The American Caruso."

In a professional career that lasted just a bit over ten years Mario Lanza created more memorable recordings, broadcasts, concert perfomances and feature films than any other major vocalist in the classical and pop-jazz music genre. He was a man blessed with arguably the finest tenor voice in recorded music. Fans of Caruso, Pavarotti, Jan Peerce, Placido Domingo or Careras may argue that their tenor interpreted a particular aria better than anyone else but few if any can argue against the sheer beauty, power and emotion of Mario Lanza. He achieved worldwide success too fast and his penchant for the good life: wine, women and good food got the best of him in the end. It is so sad, when one contemplates Lanza's short but brilliant career and what might have been, that he was gone at age 38, an age when some tenors are just beginning to hit their stride. This album is a fine overview of some of his most memorable heavy classics as well as lighter operetta standards and showcases his voice so well. Nearly fifty years have transpired since his untimely death in 1959 and there is yet to appear on the scene a tenor with the power, charisma or sheer beauty of Lanza's voice. I highly recommend this album to the Lanza novice or those just starting their Opera CD collections.

This album has some really splendid songs, and yes, it's a good introduction to the King of the high last notes. I grew up with one of Lanza's albums and more or less learned to sing by singing along with his wonderful warm voice. What good energy he had... and too bad he died so young (sigh). It certainly lifts my spirits to listen to his music again and I hope anyone reading this will take a chance and get to know him too.

I recommend this collection as a good starting point for those interested in this extraordinary tenor. It's not a complete representation of the man by any stretch of the imagination, but it includes a handful of unforgettable recordings that will make newcomers to Lanza sit up in astonishment.

Highlights include the immortal Serenade & Golden Days from The Student Prince, Beloved (from the film version of the Student Prince, and arguably Lanza's best English-language love song), Because You're Mine, If I Loved You, and the stirring Addio Alla Madre from Cavalleria Rusticana. If love songs seem a little over-represented at the expense of arias and (notably) Italian & Neapolitan Songs, then blame BMG for their habitual neglect of Lanza's more serious side. In any event, this is essentially a one-CD version of the three-CD set, The Mario Lanza Collection. All of the renditions are the same as on the earlier CD, as are the sound sources. With the exception of The Student Prince Serenade, most of the selections here have never sounded better.

Be aware, however, that several of the arias are in fact retakes of more familiar versions. Vesti La Giubba, for instance, is an alternate take from Lanza's May 1950 session, and although the tenor is in great voice, the orchestra lets him down on the climactic phrase by moving on before he has finished his High A on the word "infranto". The Flower Song is even more unrestrained than the familiar take - great fun, but not the kind of recording you'd want newcomers to Lanza to hear! (Lanza never quite "nailed" this aria, but his heart was in the right place.) La Donna E Mobile is the familiar 1950 version in the first half, but is replaced by an inferior retake in the second half, followed by an edited-in High B ending (on "pensier") from the original recording!

The only truly bad recording is the inexplicably popular With A Song In My Heart. Lanza is unfocused, and strains his way throughout the piece. Yours Is My Heart Alone is somewhat better, but is easily surpassed by the tenor's 1956 recording with the conductor Henri Rene (and currently unavailable on CD).

The "Greatest Hits" are here: the million-selling Be My Love, Loveliest Night of The Year and the aforementioned Because You're Mine. I have to confess to an aversion to the first two - Lanza was often a far better singer than these recordings suggest - but most fans, I'm sure, will continue to cherish them. Besides, what tenor since Lanza has ever sung Be My Love without straining his way through the wretched thing and then fudging the High C at the end? Lanza made it his own, and to be fair to the song, it is actually a very difficult piece to pull off, as Messrs Domingo, Carreras and Leech will no doubt attest. But that was also one of Lanza's most under-appreciated strengths - he made everything sound so easy. Listeners accustomed to the laborious efforts of most present-day tenors will be astounded by the freshness, ease, and sheer bravado of these performances.

Not a bad collection for the price. Most are reasonably clean sounding original hits and a couple are actually hard to find on CD (Si Zentner's "Up A Lazy River" and Pee Wee Hunt's "12th Street Rag"). But, as with many Curb compilations, there are at least two NSR'S (those dreaded "New Stereo Recordings") included...both Roger Williams selections. "Autumn Leaves" I can understand and accept. It sounds almost exactly like the original except much cleaner. But re-recording "Born Free" (already in stereo) makes absolutely no sense, especially since the only noticeable difference is the unfortunate deletion of the chorus vocal. What's the point, folks?

I already had most of these cuts on other collections. "Blues Theme" by Davie Allan and the Arrows is what led me to purchase this cd. It's a great instrumental,but you probably won't hear it on the radio today! I also like "No Matter What Shape", "Memphis", "Surfer's Stomp", and the two cuts by the Ventures. However,I prefer the Bill Justis recording of "Raunchy" to the Ernie Freeman version found here. As for the "Red River Rock" by Johnny and the Hurricanes: "F'get about it!"

I NEVER received this item! That's how stupid they are!! Won't buy from them again. There are plenty of other retailers out there selling the same thing!

Amazon needs to get a clue!!!

I first bought this title on CD in 2000 when it was reissued, believing that it contained the long versions of Ain't No Mountain High Enough (6:16) and Love Hangover (7:47), according to the track listing on the back flyer. When I put this CD in my system to play those two songs, what I got instead were the edited versions and not the long versions!!! I felt like I was ripped off of whatever amount of money that I spent on this title. I notice that this title is not available (again), but if it ever does become available, yet again, the long versions of those two songs need to be on there. That is something that the folks at Motown need to work on (and improve on), as well as getting Diana's other solo album titles out on CD (they should not take this lightly; I'm serious). I also noticed that a new "greatest hits" title has just come out on August 29. I also should say that there are enough (actually way too many) "greatest hits" titles out. Let's just hope that this newly released "greatest hits" title (The Definitive Collection) is the last one to come out. The next Diana Ross albums that I would love to see reissued on CD are all of her other solo album titles as well as her Greatest Hits album from 1976. I took off two stars because of the edited versions of Love Hangover and Ain't No Mountain High Enough on this title.

Diana Ross has charted 18 #1 hits on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart,12 of those as part of the Supremes.Her #1 chart span is about 17 years 2 months "Where Did Our Love Go" by the Supremes 8-22-1964 to 10-10-1981 "Enless Love" with Lional Richie.
Three artist have charted 17 #1 hits: Elvis Presley,Michael Jackson(4 as part of the Jackson 5) and Mariah Carey,this includes her solo and non-solo recordings. The Beatle have charted 20 #1 hits, giving it's members Paul McCartney 29,George Harrison 23 John Lennon and Ringo Starr 22.
I don't know how often Diana Ross has been sampled, or what chart positions those recordings reached on the Billboard Hot 100, but I do know that "Mo Money Mo Problems" credited to The Notorious B.I.G. featuring Puff Daddy and Mase samples Ross's "I'm Coming Out", "Mo" reached #1 for 2 weeks, 8-30 and 9-6-1997. If Ross had received credit on this song it would give her #1 hits in 4 decades and a #1 chart span of about 33 years and 3 weeks -- Cher has the longest span of #1 hits,33 years 7 months 3 weeks "I Got You Babe" by Sonny and Cher 8-14-1965 to 4-3-1999 "Believe". Cher's solo span is about 27 years 5 months beginning with "Gypsys,Tramps and Thieves" on 11-6-1971.--Michael Jackson has the second longest span 25 years 7 months 1 week "I want You Back" The Jackson5 on 1-31-1970 to 9-2-1995 "You Are Not Alone". His solo span is about 22 years 10 months 3 weeks beginning with "Ben" on 10-14-1972. --Elton John has the thrid longest span with 24 years 11 months "Crocodile Rock" 2-17-1973 to 1-10-1998 "Something about the Way You Look Tonight/Candle in the Wind 1997"

This is the best single-disc hits compilation of Diana Ross, that you'll find. It's got many of her solo hits and they all sound great and they all ARE great! They bring back a lot of memories, for me. This is must-have soul!

Excellent starter album for new fans of the Commodores, this collection features the essential, signature hits from 1974-81, as well as 2 never-before-released tracks, including the mid-tempo R&B/Funk of "Painted Picture" (vocals by J.D. Nichoals) and "Reach High" (used for an early '80s television sitcom). Small, simple collection of high quality classics.

This collection is a great starting point for anyone interested in this group. The sound quality might not stand up to some of the more recent remastered discs and even modest fans will prefer the more extensive Ultimate Collection. Still, this disc contains most of the classics, including Easy, Brick House and Machine Gun, and it's all the Commodores many folks will ever need.

It's hard to find a good Mel Tillis compilation CD, especially when you consider the size of musical library. One of the greatest songwriters ever, with none other than Ray Price and Webb Pierce delivering his material. This 11 track Cd could have provided some of Mel's more popular (and recognizable) songs (ie Coca Cola Cowboy); but at the same time, this Cd provides "Woman in the Back of My Mind" and "Stomp them Grapes". So, there's a little bit of everything here. This Polygram release provides no liner notes or artist info, but for the affordable price, a complaint is not warranted.

Mel Tillis is a class act. I'll never forget seeing his show at Camden Park in Huntington, WV back in 1986, and I can tell you he sounds just as good live as on his great recordings, and furthermore, Mel didn't mind a bit to stand and talk to his fans after she show. That counts a lot in my book.
Now, about the classic recordings on this CD: These are the recordings Mel recorded for MGM back in the early 1970's, and I can tell you after one listen to this CD, these classics have stood the test of time.
Among my favorites on here are "I Ain't Never", "Mental Revenge" and who can forget that classic line from "Memory Maker" that says "Her memory's like a bug and it keeps on a-crawling"... Now that line is an attention getter.
"Midnight Me and The BLues" is another great classic, as are "Sawmill", "Neon Rose" and "Heaven Everyday".
The one sone I don't remember hearing before I bought this CD is "Take My Hand", but it is a duet. The female vocalist is not named here, but I'm thinking that it's Sherry Bryce. She and Mel had a few hits back then and this sounds a lot like her voice.
I'm really dissappointed that "Arms Of A Fool" and "Brand New Mr. Me" aren't on here, but it's still a good collection and well worth the money. I wish it had some liner notes in it though.
I love these classic recordings and my 11 year old son does as well. This is just plain good stuff.

Hearing this music for the first time in 30 years brought tears to my eyes. I used to listen to this with my Daddy when i was a little girl. My Dad has been gone 10 years and this truely brought back wonderful memories. :)
