Memories Of Patches And Clarence Carter!.......2006-12-09

When purchasing old music on CD (and there aren't any prior reviews posted) I am always concerned about the songs being original recordings and of course the sound quality. Well; Rest Assured.....these are original recordings of Clarence Carter and the sound quality is outstanding. It's a Flashback and It's Rhino and that always helps. As for the songs.....His 1968 #2 Billboard R&B classic, Slip Away, is here along with everyones favorite, Patches, which also reached #2 on the Billboard R&B charts in1970 plus some lesser known (but nice) tunes like, The Feeling Is Right, and, I Can't Leave Your Love Alone, plus others. Great price;. You can't go wrong buying this one. I remember Clarence from that era and my opinion of him in two words is....Huge Talent!

IN MY OPINION--What a wonderful cd. Sorry but I am partial to Mr. Jackson. I have most of his cd's. He has a smooth voice and is so underrated. I wish the music industry would give this man the credit he deserves. His songs have substance.

THIS MASTERPIECE WAS STOLEN FROM ME MANY YEARS AGO.I RECENTLY GOT MY HANDS ON THD CD,AND IT SOUNDS JUST AS GOOD NOW AS IT DID IN 1988 WHEN I FIRST GOT IT.THERE WERE SOME SONGS I FELT WERE VERY MUCH IGNORED.OF COURSE YOU HAD NICE'N SLOW,HEY LOVER,AND YOU AND I GOT A THANG,BUT THE 2 HIGHLIGHTS OF THIS ALBUM WERE DON'T LET LOVE SLIP AWAY AND MY FAVORITE SONG,YOU'RE A SPECIAL LADY.ALSO VERY MUCH LIKEABLE WERE IT'S GONNA TAKE A LONG TIME AND ONE HEART TOO MANY WHICH I COULD(personally)RELATE TO.IFELT AS THOUGH THIS WAS PROBABLY HIS BEST WORK OUTSIDE OF JUST LIKE THE FIRST TIME,AND IT'S TOO BAD THAT SONGS OFF THIS RELEASE RARELY GET ANY RADIO PLAY ON QUIET STORM STATIONS,BECAUSE THERE(truly)ARE SOME CLASSIC SONGS ON A TRULY CLASSIC LP.

Almost as good as his first two albums........2004-05-23

Unlike Luther Vandross' "Any Love" album from the same year (1988), Freddie's "Don't Let Love Slip Away" contained no pop hits and its success was purely on the R&B charts. Despite including the Top 5 R&B hits "Nice and Slow" and "Hey Lover" this album went by mostly-unnoticed by mainstream pop record buyers and as such was not the crossover hit it should have been. It was, however, almost as good as Freddie's two previous albums with "Special Lady", "One Heart Too Many" and the heart-wrenching "It's Gonna Take A Long Long Time" being key cuts that were not released (sadly) as singles.

Great Electronic Rock - Sensuous and Danceable!.......2006-05-02

I came across Cuir Bleu while cruising MySpace Music for new, Independent electronica bands and I was hooked at first listen! Pixie's vocals are rich, strong and sensuous, against well-placed synths, beats that make you move, and a variety of other instruments - including a beautiful and unexpected violin on "I'm Your Lover". It's the kind of music that makes you really listen - and that you'll find you're singing to yourself hours later.

The Slip Away EP is a well-done debut - it hits the darker side of electronica, managing to be upbeat without sounding too bubble-gum-pop. Track 2, "Take a Picture", is my favorite: Edgy and very rock-and-roll with pulsing techno beats, electric guitar, synth and solid, sexy vocals. It's a great fusion of genres, and a fun listen.

Cuir Bleu reminds me of the band Goldfrapp, if a bit less glittery and polished - maybe more like Berlin crossed with Depeche Mode... with Annie Lenox-style vocals thrown in for good measure! The composition is tight and interesting, and the lyrics are worth paying attention to. If you're a fan of 80s synth-pop or some of the bands I've mentioned above, it's a good bet you'll love this EP. It's got a great mix of flavors that will keep you interested and singing along - and wanting more!

Definitely worth your time!
