This album is a great work and is truly blessed by God. I listen to this cd everyday! Shirley Murdock is an anointed woman of God and it shows in her music. You will not be disappointed.

It has been 5 long years since the release of Ms. Murdock's first full length gospel CD titled "Home". That joyful and long anticipated Disc was well received by Fans and Critics alike. Now, with "Soul Food", Shirley cuts deeper into the soul of "Home". I can listen to this album from beginning to end without missing a single note. What carries the album throughout is that Great voice I grew up listening to. For you Ol' Schooler's who listened to her in the 80's....You'll love the Remix to F.O.G.; the albums' first single. The standout track on the entire CD is "I love me better than that".

there's a really good song that made me buy the cd, "i love me better than that". for me the cd was worth it for that song along. honestly i wish a few of the songs had been a little longer. the cd has a powerful message and i recommend if for anyone going through something.

Only recently had I heard a few songs by Shirley Murdock and I was hooked! Aside from her incredible voice, all of her music on this CD has a great beat. It's fun/funky/romantic 80's style.

I have loved Shirley's music for over ten years, when I saw all her albums on Amazon, I felt like I found the old school that I've been searching for for soooooo long. Shirley has a strong, electrifying voice, with power and soul, that moves me to want to belt out her tunes whenever, and wherever I am. Her lyrics are tight, all about good values, love, and serving the Lord.
I'm gonna add all of her music to my collection and let all of Barbados and Toronto know that this woman must never be forgotten, she's one of a kind.

First, off Shirley got her career starting off as a backup singer for Zapp and Roger she is best know for her vocals in computer love and in the midnight hour but I tell you she is a real diva she has a strong electrifying voice that really stands out and I would recommend any Shirley Murdock cd because she is really great she sings nice song and this cd is loaded with her classic trademark : as we lay it also includes go on without you, husband and other great songs she now sings gospel and she stull sounds well

just a quick note: The original midnite mix is not on this self-titled cd as a bonus track. It is actually on the 'very best of' cd from 2001. The version on this self-titled disc is actually the 12" remixed version of the song.

Shirley Murdock is Off The Chain. Her voice is so Sexy. To this day I still love her like I did in the past. "As We Lay" is a Classic and one of the greatest Love songs ever made.

I have been a huge music fan for all of my life, and I have heard so many great songs, but none has been as great as As we lay. I heard that song when I was 8 years old and I have loved the song ever since. It 's my favorite song of all time.. shirley nurdock is a great artist and a true R&B diva. This is a great album and you shouldn't be disappointed.

There's nothin else to say the girl is BAD. I love her so much and she is just great. Her voice just catures you and she makes you want to listen to her. I have loved this lady since I found out about her and the songs she make are ravishing. If I go on I wont stop so just know that she is one if the GREATEST. My favorites are (As we lay,I cant go on,Husband,Darling dont leave)

I would like to start this review off by saying that I can't remember how I found this cd. Maybe the lord had something to do with that. Anyway, this cd is very tight and up lifting. One of my favorite tracks is called, "This is that." I like both versions of the song. She brings gospel to a hole new level when she sings praises to our lord and savior. I wish that she had Rufus Troutman on this cd. That would've been a great duet for a few songs. Dispite the fact that she doesn't does not make this a terrible cd on it's own. She does work with Bart Thomas "A.K.A" "Sure 2 B" from Bigg Robb's camp, and "Lester Troutman, and Dail Degrote" from Zapp. When I first heard her voice back in 1986 on "As we lay" I knew that she would do great things in the music world, and she has. I love all of the cd. I have never heard her speak except on the song "Let there be love" from 1991. When she speaks on this cd, she will really get you to stop what you are doing and praise the lord where ever you are at. I am visually impaired and I hope to someday meet Shirley and all the rest of her band and tell her to make another gospel cd. This is the greatest work that the lord has put in front of her. I hope on her next cd that she does a tribute for the late Roger Troutman. It would be nice for her to do that on a gospel cd since Roger, Lary, and Lil' Roger are in heaven. Shirley! Keep praisin' the lord! Because without him, we have nothin'!

When Shirley Murdock and her husband recently sang at our church their duet "Oh to know Him" I was so moved I turned to Amazon hoping to purchase a cd with that song on it. Instead I found her 2002 Christian "Home" CD. ~ I remember Mrs. Murdock from my teenage years when she sang backup with Zapp, and then when she went on as a solo R&B artist. One thing about singing Christian music (God's word) is that no matter how many years later you hear the song (as I bought the CD 3 years after it's release date) the words can still be used in your "present" situation! I've heard the "duet" will be on her next CD coming out, but I was excited to hear other songs that touched my spirit. It's clear Mrs. Murdock loves and "trusts" the Lord in everything. the first song was SUCH a testimony for me as I`ve always tried to "help" God, putting MY hand in the situation messing everything up all the more - but THIS song, Mrs. Murdock reminds to "cast your cares on God, and after you've done all you can, you just stand, it's in God's hand." She reminded me that the battle is not mine. I've been meditating on the words of these songs every day. What an anointing on this woman! This CD is a MUST! My first night I stayed up to 2:45am listening over an over singing alone, weeping and praising the Lord.(By the way, I'm NOT a night person! smile) I can't get enough of Shirley Murdock! Thanks for being a blessing in my life.
Favorite tracks are #1,3,5,6,9,10,11,12,13 - however tracks #1,5,6,10 was a "personal" testimony for me.

I love this cd i got it around the time it came out and i still loving it . i glad Shirley is singing the message of God my favorites songs are, it's in your Hands, Never let you Down,He Can, The Dream would not die, Your Always,Thy Way,Cry,. Home is a superb compilation of blessings. I love this CD. Shirley Murdock is indeed "home" singing gospel. I am looking forward to more gospel from her. I particularly love "Celebrate My Life", and "A Dream That Will Not Die".

You ought to purchase this CD right away. You'll wonder how did you live without it!

This cd would be the last 'full length' R&B release from Shirley Murdock. Which was a great piece of work staying true to the sound of R&B.

In Your Eyes was a great 'Wedding Song', which was wonderfully performed by Shirley with great emotions. As well as other songs that stuck to the theme of the titled cd 'Let There Be Love' All the songs on this cd represent that very objection. Stay with me Tonight, a song of a woman begging her man to stay(begging usally done by male artist i.e. Keith Sweat, Gerald Levert..) done with class. A "tell it to my face" slow jam in Say It, Mean it...and a host of other timeless songs to follow.

Unfortantly, this cd just didn't take off, which was a shame, because it had the right songs to do so. If you have any doubts, please take a moment to listen to the clips...I am sure you will find a 'new' favorite song on this cd if you love the sound of Shirley Murdocks incrediable voice.

    This is one for the collection..this release had it all for the upbeat music crowd and something for the quiet storm crowds. Shirley can sing...no arguement with that. but like so many R&B artist, she only really could get play on Black Radio, so her success was limited. The songs are timeless and still worth listening to so this would be a great cd for your collection in the long run..trust..

    If you can check out Shirley's follow up to this album "Let There Be Love" which is extremly hard to find but worth looking for! As well as her Gospel debut "Home" which says it all!

    If you are a Shirley Murdock fan, you HAVE to have this album. Her gospel-like soul is only spotlighted with the synthesized, 80s sound. "Husband," "If I Know," and "Spend My Whole Life" are prime examples of true soul. Truly wonderful.

    ....it is a day's trip down I-75 South from Murdock's hometown Toledo to Dayton, where Roger Troutman and his brothers/kinfolk who formed the band Zapp were headquartered. How they ever hooked up in the first place is quite a mystery because it's quite evident Ms. Murdock has those urban gospel pipes which perhaps would make her a better fit with Detroit's Clark Sisters than with Dayton's Roger/Zapp.

    But, lo and behold, she started singing with the outfit and lent some distinctive vocals that were tit for tat with the vocoder work Roger did--in fact some of her own vocals sounded like they were vocoder-ized. I remember noticing her first on "Computer Love" sharing backgrounds and vocal fills with the Gap Band's Charlie Wilson.

    Soon it came time for the Troutmans to give their vocal star a solo project. Album #1 "Shirley Murdock" has the great song "As We Lay", written with Ohio Player keyboardist Billy Beck, and quite a favorite jam in the R & B circles. It was so good that who is it...? one of Murdock's unofficial proteges Kelly Price has remade it.

    This project, her 2nd solo, has a cut with an equally bad girl/good girl feel to it called "Husband" which I remember all the Sisters liked because they were really, really relating to it, dig? This CD is spiced with Murdock's fire and brimstone meets Erotic City vocals throughout-- she, like Chaka Khan, harmonizes to her own overdubs. Another favorite which came out of this CD is her duet with keyboardist Dale Degroat, "Spend My Whole Life With You".

    Underrated, yes, she is. But listen to the airwaves nowadays and see how she has influenced a new generation of vocalists.
