Superwoman's album, a bit short of superalbum.......2007-03-12
Karyn White, one of the most attractive singers of her era, released this album after being a virtually an unknown artist for several years. "Superwoman" became an instant hit after its release, and became an anthem for many women out there that agreed with Karyn's sentiments... that women are more than just someone that serve as caddies to their husbands. Her up-tempo hit, "The Way You Love Me" was another chart-topper that made it to mainstream audiences, after initially being considered mainly for the African-American community. This album also includes another popular hit, "Secret Rendezvous", where Babyface even lends a bit of a background vocal to spice up the track. Aside from those three hits, "One Wish" and "Love Saw It" are nice jams to listen to as well, if you're into a bit of '80's R&B. This album doesn't quite have the firepower that some of the other more popular artists released during this era, but it does lend to the talent that Karyn White is. Karyn White, a former Beauty-Queen, is definitely more than just a pretty face, and it is clearly displayed in this album.
Funky 90's R&B.......2006-11-04
Well, All I can say is I LOOOOOOOOVE this album! This is the album I always play when I am feeling high on love!If you don't have this album, stop whatever you are doing and buy this! The album goes through all phasesof love and realtionships.
I love the way you love is my favorite. I always reminisce of doin' the cabbage patch and the snake and all those dances from the 90's.
Just a great album start to finish!
Still one of my favorite albums.......2006-09-20
I was a great fan of "LaFace" productions, in the late '80...and Karyn was one of my favorite performers, in that period. So, i wasn't amazed when her collaboration with L.A. and Babyface has produced one of the best contemporary R&B albums that i can remember. Actually, the best of her (unfortunately, too short) discography.
The chemistry between her voice and L.A. and Babyface's arrangements was perfect. In the following albums, produced almost exclusively by Jam & Lewis, she sounded simply like a more "aggressive" version of Janet Jackson, and this wasn't exactly what a so talented singer deserved...because she had enough personality to have her own artistical identity.
If you want to start a good collection of modern R&B music, you can't miss this one!
This was when they knew how to make great music.......2005-12-20
I love this cd so much. I take it out every now and then from the bottom of my collection and listen to it for a week or two on end and still love it as much today as I did when I first got it years ago. She is so brilliant and we miss her music. I love Superwoman, Secret Rendevous and Love Saw it. This is good music and I wish someone could make it as great if she isn't singing anymore. This is a cd for all RnB lovers and lovers in general.
Take me back to real R&B.......2005-07-27
This is one of her finest albums. I miss the way these songs made us feel and look at love and our life with great expectation or a knowing nod of the head because of the familiar situations she sings about. These songs would be good for marriages and relationships now, because they make you look at the value and importance of what you're in or what you shouldn't be in. These days R&B is becoming tasteless and monotonous. Karyn brought back classic story-line and real issues that were truthful but not degrading to our culture. It would be great to have her back in the studio again because there are still some of us that like real good music and good writing.
Superwoman was like an anthem for women when it first came out and she said what alot of woman would like to say without having to get "ghetto"....just graceful. Secret Rendevous is just a feel good jam brings remembrance of an old crush, (don't remember who, but I remember what a crush felt like)(smile). The Way You Love Me, Family Man, and Don't Mess With Me, were also feel good jams with great story-lines, fun to listen to and the names of the songs fits the expression of what's coming across in the song. Slow Down, Love Saw It (BabyFace),Tell Me Tomorrow, and One Wish are classic love songs perfected with smooth mellow tones. Love Saw It was a big hit back then. However, this album is repeat worthy in your cd player if you're taking a drive, working, or relaxing with some friends. As a matter of fact, your whole family can dance to it. It can set a great tone for weddings, a first date, a romantic night in, class reunions, or time spent chillin' next to a lake.

BRILLIANT - So glad this is out @}->---.......2007-06-13
Karyn White is a fantastic artist who has so many great songs and hits and she's one of the artists I really wish was doing new stuff today. In the meantime, I'll take this. It's all the very best songs on one cd which has taken some time to get out, but so glad that it's finally here.
I'd say the best songs here are Secret Rendezvous, Romantic, I'd Rather Be Alone (not a big hit - but brilliant nevertheless) and Love Saw It (with Babyface). It brings back memories of the early to mid 90's when R&B music was the best. I highly recommend this cd. If you've never heard of Karyn, this is a great place to hear the best of her work and hear her fantastic voice. If you are already a true fan, then this is a must for your collection. I can't wait for my copy to arrive.
Finally!!.......2007-04-12
I've waited so long for a Greatest Hits compilation of Karyn's best work, which was only available as an expensive japanese import, but now available domestically with great sound and liner notes, including two new tracks. Highly recommend to anybody who wants all of Karyn's hit singles on one CD.

One of the 90s Best.......2007-06-03
Karyn White didn't have an amazing voice (it was different and soulful), but she had personality and the ability to reach young and old fans with her music. Unlike artists of today, she didn't use her sexuality to sell records. Instead (along with her powerhouse producers) she crafted some of the best 90s R&B/Pop music of that era and this album reflects that.
I was only a pup when this album came out and it took me a while to dig this album because I expected Terry Lewis to give his wife a more R&B dance sound. However, I have grown to respect this album... Its a woman's album and her take on love.
Slinky, sexy followup. . . ........2007-03-23
Though "Ritual of Love," Karyn White's follow-up to her self-titled debut has a few tracks that are obvious filler, her slinky, sexy charm is still more than enough to satisfy. White's voice can be as slinky as Diana Ross' or Janet Jackson's purr, yet White's is much more thrilling and muscular, her vocal gymnastics obviously influenced by the likes of Babyface and Michael Jackson when he was in his prime. With equal aplomb, she easily handles crunching dance tunes ("Romantic" [the only hit here equal to or better than "The Way You Love Me," "Superwoman" or "Love Saw It" from her debut album, "Ritual of Love" and "Walking the Dog") and sultry Babyface-inspired ballads ("How I Want You," "One Heart"). "Ritual of Love" may not be letter perfect but it's still great enough to make you wish that Karyn White had not decided to abruptly end what was--and would surely have continued to be--a successful recording career.
it's alright.......2006-11-04
Don't get me wrong, I love karyn white's voice, but I was disappointed because this cd only had 3 songs I really liked.
It was au-right, I guess. I have mixed feelings. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad.
What ever happened to her, she just has a singing voice that soft and sensual. There aren't many these days, who have that ol'skool vibe going.
Strong follow up! .......2006-01-22
After Karyn White's successful '88 debut on Warner Bros., I was going "When is her next album coming out?" in 1990. But out she came in summer 1991 with Romantic, which led to this follow up. Strong follow up, but with another set of people to handle the album. White had Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis produce most of this album, with just strong results and more emphasis on song structure this time. Romantic, Love That's Mine and the no-nonsense funk of Walk The Dog are my favorites. The ballads are nice too. Even one of my favorites was produced by Laney Stewart, perhaps one of the most underrated names I heard in the '90s because his songs were so good. Karyn's second album sold well, but not as big as the debut. But her vocal talents are nicely displayed in this effort to match with a sexier look on her album cover.
Feel The Rhythm Of The Ritual.......2005-02-12
Karyn White has got to be one of the the most underrated singers, it really amazes me that she hasn't come out to party today, she could fit right in with Destiny's Child, Blu Cantrell and Ashanti...but I guess all singers have their moment in the sun and Karyn was no exception. Karyn started out on jazz man Jeff Lorber's 1986 album "Facts Of Love" and then in 1988, she teamed with Babyface/L.A. Reid and came up with her self-titled debut, yielding the declaration of women anthem "Superwoman" and the New Jack dance vibe of "Secret Rendevous" as major hits.
With "Ritual Of Love" produced by musical geniuses Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis, Karyn picks up where she left off, offering a mixture of funky dance jams and slow mellow grooves.
The #1 hit "Romantic" kicks off with a bang and you know you want to turn the lights down and light a candle after you dance your pants off to this number. The shoulda-been second single "Ritual Of Love" gives us a little African drum vibe mixed with heavy percussion and keyboards, another dance your pants off song that will make you sweat (Though I hate Britney Spears, I think that her "Slave 4 U" video where she sweating it up with a bunch of sweaty dancers in a warehouse would have made an excellent video plot for this song, though this song is 10 years older...just me thinking...). The second single, "The Way I Feel About You" is a the most pop sounding on the whole album. Nice little keyboard work and a cheery but danceable vibe. "Walkin' The Dog" is comical but is actually the most creative (don't laugh) song off the entire CD and the video is hilarious (check out Launch.com to see what I mean). "Love That's Mine" is in the same vein as "TWIFAY" with it's jumpy keyboards but it has a more mellow vibe to it, Karyn even gives a little rap. "How I Want You" is sultry as "One Heart" shows the musical direction that Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis were going in on the tune(you can hear a resemblance to Boyz II Men's 1994 hit "On Bended Knee"). The sweet balladry of "Tears Of Joy" is followed by the gospel tinged, "Do Unto Me" which is reminsent of "Superwoman". "Ritual Of Love" holds up well but you do get some bad moments like "Beside You" but really Karyn really does give an excellent performance. The lyrics aren't very stimulating and the music can sometimes not gel together ("Hard To Say Goodbye") but it's a feel good album and a nice gem from the early 90's when around this time New Jack was on the outy-outs, though it sounds dated now, it was fresh when it first came out in 1991 and to me it's one the most refreshing CD's in my collection. Karyn White has a nice, suttle, but powerful voice and she comes off as a very talented performer, it's a shame that she hasn't made a comeback, she would be so appreiciated!

KARYN WHITE.......WOW what a talent.......2006-07-29
I remember this CD coming out on my birthdate, so it was only right for me to purchase it. Karyn White was truly talented, i was there when she performed for Jeff Lober and killed it on "The Facts of Love". I wish she would come back and do more music cause the music scene is dull without her soulful vocals. I have all three of her CD's and i am still a HUGE Fan event hough she is not performing anymore just raising her family and staying out of the limelight. All i can say is "Hungah" is the funky number that can't stay out of my head, the beautiful soulful voice and lovely lyrics by babyface he knew her voice so well on "Can I Stay With You" "Weakness" is another great track with hit all over it "No Body but my Baby" Is the bomb song, MY ALL TIME FAV from this album is "Here Comes The Pain Again" WOW what a voice and the lyrics are so IN YOUR FACE..........."I'd Rather Be Alone" is another gem, "Make Him Do Right" is right on with today's music scene, "Simple Pleasures" is a fun sexy kitten kinda song for Karyn White to tease & taunt us with LOVE IT! "I'm Your Woman another stand out track "Think'n Bout Love is another winner in my book and "One Minute" is another great song very nice lyrics and there again that voice of KARYN WHITE! Not a bad track here, every song is a winner. Pick this one up and go back in time when music REALLY meant something.........TRUE SOUL & TALENT from the one and only KARYN WHITE!
Looking for some "grown folks' music"? Well, here it is!.......2006-07-11
Though it's twelve-years old, Karyn White's "Make Him Do Right" can stand toe to toe with some of the female stars on the contemporary scene. In fact, in comparison to hit albums from Mary J. Blige or Mariah Carey, White's release is just as good. Blending tight production with lyrics that reveal a singer's passion, "Make Him Do Right" is a brilliant composition. With the songwriting/producing skills of husband Terry Lewis and his partner Jimmy Jam, along with Babyface and Daryl Simmons, the album primarily focuses on male-female relationships in all their complexities.
The song titles speak for themselves and White pulls no punches in expressing her love for her man, her desires, and her intent on being in control of the situation, no matter if it seems that he is "in charge."
In an album filled with hits, one really stands out: the Babyface-penned "Can I Stay with You". White sings this one with so much conviction that one could only wish that he or she could be so fortunate to have a lover like the one she describes, a man or woman with such "appeal" that one would want to spend eternity.
White has a winner here and it's mind-boggling as to why there was no follow-up!!!
Still one of my favourites after all this time!.......2005-10-10
I still listen to this album 11 years after its release when I want to hear real, authentic R&B. This is by far Karyn White's best album with regard to the quality of the songwriting, musical arrangements, vocals and overall production. She teamed up with Jam & Lewis on most of the tracks and Babyface on a few of the tender, romantic ballads. Songs like Hungah (which is slammin'), Weakness, Can I Stay With you and Thinking About Love are quintessential Karyn White. They're unmistakably her songs and these should've been classics. The best song by far is Nobody But My Baby. That should've been a single. It's such a shame that this album wasn't promoted to its fullest capacity. Every song has hit potential and there is no filler. Somebody find Karyn White - we need more real R&B singers like her.
Classic.......2005-07-10
I love this CD. I had the original cassette tape when it first came out back in 1994. I was a freshman in college and I would play it (on high volume) in the dorm room all day (I'm sure my roommate was sick of me). Now, 11 years later, I keep a copy of the CD in my "classic" collection. Since good music is so hard to find now-a-days, I pull this one out just to listen to some real R&B.
IN MY BOOK, THIS IS KARYN'S BEST ALBUM........2005-05-19
Karyn White. What happened to her? This album is surely her best work yet. It's a shame she fell off the music scene though. This is my favorite Karyn White album out of the three.

Variations that only a master could love.......2005-10-11
Many of the greats of classical music often "borrowed" or interpolated melodies that were composed by their contemporaries or their predecessors. In today's modern times, a remixer can add his/her distinctive touch to an existing song, turning it inside out, yet maintaining the original's integrity.
Though "Hungah" was a nominal hit for Ms. White, this EP benefits by having four alterations of the album cut (also featured here) that are examples of the remix artist as master technician.
Eleven years have not dimmed the production of this single, with the standout being The Basement Boys' handling of the "Supa Hungah" mix.
Mozart would be proud!
