If you are you will truly come out of this with a new appreciation for this very deserving and talented artist. He does have so much soul in his singing. On any track on "How I Seem To Be" he drops the skills like its 2nd nature. I love "Open Mind" and "Just Flow" which is the song i saw on the Logo network the video and loved it. I love the cd as a whole myself. But those tracks in particular really do it for me. So if you have a chance to get this cd don't sleep or wait til later to support a truly talented artist. Its a ride you will really enjoy taking a part of, enjoy.

I fell in love with Your Mine (alone is worth the purchase) and also heard Flow with my Soul. With those 2 in mind, I decided to buy it. The album keeps pretty much the same vibe and pace throughout which is a good thing (because he has a "sound") but the "sound" got pretty old in my opinion. Positives: VERY good voice, lot o' soul, good lyrics, good solid first (I beleive) album. Negatives: Not much variety. Overall a good buy!

leave it to the logo network to get this dude some well deserved attention. he deserves a close look... "flow" is off the hook... deep in soul blended well with a soft rap beat that hits the spot. great mood music. trust me.

To look at his boyishly white face, you couldn't imagine the sounds that come from inside. Seeing a cute face, I decided to listen to his CD at a listening station at a music store and the sounds that came through the headphones made me think that perhaps I wasn't listening to what I thought I should be hearing. There is so much soul trapped in that little body...thank God he has an outlet from which to release it, otherwise he would explode! All songs are amazing and he is definitely worth a listen...you will not be disappointed!

I have just listened to the CD. Adam's voice is so smooth and beautiful. I love the songs. How could people sleep on this indie artist. He's gonna be huge. Such a mature sound for such a young artist. It's like a soul revolution that i've never heard before. I LOVE IT!! check this boy out!

Personally, I thought the first track was great and the rest was fair. On Lazarus's web site he plays the first track. I think this is misleading. The first track shows off Charles's classical training and technical skills. After the first track, the rest sounds more like a modern day Herb Alpert record.

If you expect a classically trained Trumpeter showing off his abilities you might be disapointed. If you enjoy Herb Alpert, smooth Jazz or New Age music, you might like this one.

Rara has a great voice and his music is an interesting blend of arrangements. Some songs have a fast tempo, and others are perfect for relaxing. When I practice yoga, I like to listen to "Om Prana" while doing Shivasana. 1000 Suns is another gem I enjoy listening to. After hearing this CD, I am interested in hearing more from Rara Avis!

      Album Description

      Known for his work with groups like tigersmilk, The Valentine Trio and Terminal 4 - as well as performances and recordings with a variety of other musicians from Chicago and Japan - Jason Roebke is a versatile composer who has studied with Roscoe Mitchell among others.  Rapid Croche documents Roebke's original compositions for his two-year old working trio of the same name, which features alto saxophonist/clarinetist Aram Shelton (Dragons 1976, Grey Ghost) and drummer Tim Daisy (Vandermark 5, Triage, Dragons 1976).

      Roebke's bassist-as-leader approach and eclectic compositions, which can feature anything from textural free improvisation to ballad forms to underlying grooves, allow the group to take the familiar saxophone trio instrumentation to new and exciting places.  "Rapid Croche," wrote the Chicago Reader's Kevin Whitehead in a review of one of the group's live performances, "shows how the old south-side AACM avant-garde continues to influence north-side progressives.  Anthony Braxton's leapy melodies and wide voicings are in there, as is Air's equilateral approach—the scored frames suggest rhythmic or thematic motifs to pursue, and anyone can steer or take the foreground."  

      Born and raised in Wisconsin, Roebke began as an electric bassist before switching to upright bass in college.  He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Composition and Theory from Lawrence University, under the guidance of Ken Schaphorst and Matt Turner, before studying for two years with Mitchell and arranging the legendary reed player's works for different sized ensembles.  He also holds a Master's Degree in Improvisation from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor where he was a student of Ed Sarath, Rodney Whitaker, and Stuart Sankey.  Since moving to Chicago in 1999, he has performed with many of Chicago's most active improvisers like Ken Vandermark, Rob Mazurek, Jeff Parker, and Fred Lonberg-Holm.  He also collaborates with dancer Ayako Kato in the group Art Union Humanscape and has performed with a number of notable musicians during trips to Japan.

      I've only heard a couple songs off this album on internet radio. So no, this isn't technically an album review. I just wanna give it 5 stars because what I've heard is sweet. The artist obviously has talent, and the production is excellent. Whether or not the entire album holds up to what I've heard, I don't know. But if you enjoy chilled beats (the bass line was bangin) for sleepy time or just to relax to while writing a paper or paying bills, I'd suggest picking it up, if only for the title track and track 4. I'll be ordering it shortly, as I'm in the mood for a new ambient cd.
