Good Starter.......2004-03-15
If you've just discovered Etta, or are curious about why some of us rank her with Ella, Sarah, and Billie, this is just about as good an introduction as you'll find. It collects some of the recorded highlights from the end of the first half of her career--the early '60's when her voice was probably at its very richest. Included here are fine cuts from her best albums--"Don't Go To Strangers," "Love Shout," "Lonely and Blue" with Gene Ammons' tenor, and "So Warm" with Oliver Nelson's orchestral arrangements. Still, given Etta's consistency during this time, there are as many notable omissions as essential inclusions. I'd hate to be without "Some Enchanted Evening" ("Love Shout") or "If You're But a Dream" ("Lonely and Blue"). Moreover, the collection doesn't represent her sterling work with Budd Johnson in the mid '40's, when she was simply the best female jazz singer of the blues, period. Nor does it offer any of the grittier but no less expressive Etta of the '80's and '90's. Like every other single CD anthology by a major artist purporting to be the "Best of--", it's a misleading statement. On the other hand, unlike some similar titles that come to mind, it's not a flagrant misrepresentation.
Truly Etta's Greatest!.......2002-07-26
In terms of performance and song selection, this really is the best of the sides the late Ms. Jones recorded during her tenure with Prestige. Always soulful and swinging, Etta Jones enjoyed praise from musicians, singers and fans, and deserves a lot more recognition than she got during her lifetime. If you have to get only one of Etta's discs - this is the one to shell out for.

Customer Reviews:
Get the quality Sound............2007-02-12
The Sound of this CD Produkt is not so good for quality listening.
All the Songs are have an very hard pressed Sound, the "Breaks" from Catmandu gives the feeling he runs too fast in bpm, all Versions are so extracted, that you are missed a longer running time, you can hear the moments of cutting, when you are waiting for a soft Moment in the Songs, cause there comes shortly the next Action Part in the Music. Factly, that's a nervous feeling in this CD without harmoncal balance in Music.
This CD is good to listening rare and sometimes unknown or forgotten old Disco Songs for a few of days, and then you are select your favorite Songs - an now you buying the the Original Quality Records.
What happened to That's the Meaning?.......2004-12-19
I bought this CD for several of the tracks such as Star Cruisin and If there is Love. I also bought it for Beautiful Bend's That's the Meaning. The tracks are not the 12" versions, which is fine with me but I do not understand why once this track(Beautiful Bend) starts, it almost immediately goes into "Boogie Motion", which I already had on another CD. Overall, for the rarity of most of the tracks, I still recommend it.The sound quality is good. I will probably get Beautiful Bend on it own, as I did the same with USA European connection.
Some of T.K.'s lesser-known disco hits........2003-11-05
Based in Miami, T.K. Records was one of the most important disco labels from 1975-81. The Miami disco sound was more energetic and robust than that of New York, Chicago and Los Angeles (it also had a more tropical feel). This is a great party CD- disco, however, was a type of music that more often than not lacked soul, emotion and substance and most of these songs are no exception.
less well-known disco classics.......2000-10-05
A nice collection of tracks for anyone who's looking for the not so obvious disco of the 70's. The cd contains funky disco like 'Blackwater Gold', more 'cheesy' stuff like 'Come Into My Heart', and tracks as 'Dance To The Drummer's Beat', that nowadays are mostly known by its breaks used in hiphop. More than enough to keep you locked in the groove.

love it.......2007-05-16
this is a great cd, i love utada hikaru, and this single shows how much she has matured as a singer. keep up the good work.
One of the greatest singles I've ever heard.......2007-05-12
I like the three versions of Flavor of Life. My favorite is the original, it has a cool beat and Utada sounds natural singing it. The ballad version is more slow and has a more melancholic feel to it, and it is good, so some people may prefer it over the original. The great thing about the antidote mix is that her voice blends with the funky music in the background. Love the symbolism on the CD cover, Hikki :D !
Enjoying Life With Utada.......2007-04-07
Utada Hikaru is one of Japan's biggest sensations and this single continues her streak of amazing releases. Currently divorced, she seems to have fueled that emotion into the song. You can really hear her when she hits those high notes and it's a good contrast with the verses, which are sung rather low.
Many people agree that the ballad version of the song is much better but I prefer the original. More uptempo and catchier, Utada breaks barriers with this one. With meaningful lyrics and passion in her voice, you yourself can enjoy the flavor of life along with her. My favorite part of the song is the ending and the couple of seconds of instruemental breakdown. It makes the song all the more enjoyable and worth the listen.
While I prefer the original, the ballad version of the song definitely shouldn't be overlooked. The beat is much slower and Utada stretches farther with her vocal range [especially the end]. The accompanying PV for the song is simple but it's also very enjoyable.
If you enjoy Utada Hikaru's music, then you'll enjoy this single since Utada put her heart into this one and you can really feel it. Enjoy the flavor of life!

Senza Fine magnifica.......2007-02-27
Just saw the movie "Da Savoir", where the apropos finale song to that picture was Peggy Lee's "Senza Fine". Not only did that song punctuate the movie's ending, but her soulful, earthy, sultry and ever so understatedly gorgeous rendition of this song totally mesmerized me. The only problem with this version is that it doesn't go on forever, like the love mentioned in the song's lyrics. I have never been so touched by any of Peggy's vocal renditions as this one in particular. That is a heck of a statement for me to make, given her vast and glorious repertoire!
Fever Hard to Bear.......2004-05-06
Life is so peculiar. My interest in Peggy Lee was sparked by Maria Muldaur's tribute CD "A Woman Alone With the Blues (Remembering Peggy Lee)." Then I found an old LP at a garage sale and wanted to hear more. This disc is an excellent snapshot of her work. The remastering makes the tracks clear with the only exception some distortion on her wonderful teaming with Louis Prima on "Yeah Yeah Yeah." That track is a great rocking jazzfest with the horns mostly clear throughout and Peggy's great, "I say drive he says yeah. I say park he says yeah. I say neck he says yeah. He says yeah yeah yeah yeah all the time!" Of course, the most famous of her songs is "Fever" with its throbbing bass and finger snap percussion. The 2003 remix that closes the CD that tries to update her sound wasn't particularly needed from my perspective, but the original burns with that fever that's so hard to bear. Another highlight for me is "Life is So Peculiar." It's got a great swing, "The ocean's only got water, you never know where you stand." The liner notes are very informative, telling us that this was recorded as a duet with Bing Crosby in her first film "Mr. Music" but was recorded by Peggy without Bing since he recorded for Decca and she for Capitol. Peggy penned "I Love Being Here with You" that swings with a vengeance, "I like a dance by Fred Astaire, & Brando's eyes, Yule Brenner's hair, but I think to tell you's only fair that I love being here with you." This is an excellent way to discover or remember Miss Peggy Lee! Enjoy!
Creme de Capitol.......2003-07-17
Culled from the amazing Singles box-set, this is a good package to pick up if you don't want to shell out for the box, or if you just want a nice selection of rare sides & hits by La Lee. The final cut is a dance remix of "Fever" for the club kids!
Superb Overview.......2003-07-11
A great selection of Peggy Lee's best. Spans some of her best fron the 40s, 50s, and 60s.

Excellent and economical collection!.......2006-01-12
Here we have 3 cd's of Etta James Chess Recordings. This collection contains some of her greatest performances for the label with a couple of songs that have not been available for a long time. I was surprised to find "The Breaking Point" in this collection. "Bobby Is His Name" is another great recording. A large portion of these recordings are in STEREO and the remastering is good. This collection is a European product and I've seen it on line for $15. It's worth it.

Customer Reviews:
The Best of Dean Martin.......2007-01-15
Great listening while eating an Italian dinner. Especially with a good Chianti!
Wow! (As Usual).......2003-07-03
Has Dean ever recorded a bad song? Evidently, NO!
When lying in bed on cold, rainy nights this is great.
There are the classic Martin standards: That's Amore, Volare, Sway, Memories Are Made Of This & You're Nobody Till Somebody loves You. But in addition, there are many, often forgotten performances, which are Dean Martin at his best.
Dean swings (as good as ever) on Just In Time, If Love Is Good To Me, Standing On The Corner & Canadian Sunset (forget Andy Williams' version), while remaining calm, and not over-singing anything. But then, that's always the magic of Dean's singing.
Then there are slower Italian love songs - don't let that put you off! Often you think slow tunes will be a real wah wah part of the collection, but these arn't like that: Come Back To Sorrento, Just Say I Love Her, Vieni Su, Innamorata & Arrevederci Roma are beautiful, and are perfectly suited for entertaining at the dinner table, or almost any use.
The overall mood of this collection is great, keeping just the perfect mix of faster songs and slower, ballady ones, all chosen from Dean's Capitol Records recordings - which are some of Dean's best recordings. Well worth the buy. You'll love it weather you like Dean Martin or not.
excellent buy!.......2002-08-08
The sound when playing this CD is very great - like Dean!
Good mixture of songs...some upbeat...some smooth & romantic.
excellent cd.......2002-01-20
a nice overall look at this classic voice. has all the songs you know...amazon only lists the first 5 tracks but there are actually 20.
A Rare Dean Martin Treasure!.......2001-06-08
If you can find this elusive CD...Buy it! I really wasn't a Dean Martin fan prior to the purchase of this CD, but his smooth, effortless sound and jazzy, relaxed beat drew me in. Whether you're in the mood to sing it, swing it, or just sit back and listen to it, this compilation is perfect for anything. I prefer this album in particular because of the version of "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You." His sound is more laid back and his voice just melts into the music. It's FANTASTIC!

This would be a 4 or 5 star CD if they had not 'overlooked' this band's top single. Kind of a rip, really. Anyway, the rest of the CD is great and the early stuff is a real treat: nice, raw, bluesy guitar-driven stuff. Great band.
A marginal introduction to some classic British Metal.......2004-12-15
Unless you're a huge UFO fan, it's likely that this collection and the regular greatest hits will be enough to satisfy your craving for classic metal. That said, a big part of the reason for my purchase of this set was to get a feel for the early, pre-Schenker stuff, and having felt it, I feel like I can say with authority "DON'T BOTHER!" The early stuff is almost frighteningly dull and things don't start rocking until well past the halfway point of disc one, then peter out well before the finish of disc two when the Misdemeanor crimes are committed. All told, this is a set that might be worth purchasing for the curious, but best left alone by anyone who's taken the time to collect all of the studio albums. (The liner notes are worth a read, especially when Phil draws a blank on some of the songs.)
The best UFO compilation available for real fans.......2003-06-21
A truly great release for UFO completists--this 2 disc set features the tracks from every single ever released by the mighty UFO, from their early pre-Schenker years through the '85-86 lineup with guitarist Atomic Tommy M. So you get the typical "hits" like "Lights Out", "Shoot Shoot", "Rock Bottom" and "Doctor Doctor", along with rare non-lp b-sides, both studio and live, and the ultra-rare first single with Michael Schenker, with "Give Her the Gun" and "Sweet Little Thing". The packaging is also fantastic, with track notes from singer Phil Mogg, lots of pictures and detailed information on every song. The downside? 11 tracks from the early 70s pre-Michael Schenker years (when they were a pretty average British rock band, at best, and hadn't started writing those classic songs yet), and the waste-of-time stuff from the awful "Misdemeanor" era (thus the 4 stars out of 5). But for the Schenker and Paul Chapman-era rarities, this is a great compilation for true fans.
UFO lands in fine style!.......1999-12-15
This is a 2 CD Best of Singles Collection; A must for any UFO fan. Hi-lites: Written comments by the man (Phil Mogg) on all the songs; Some hard to find CD singles (i.e. Give her the Gun and Sweet Little Thing- the first recordings with Michael SChenker, prior to the Phenomenon album; Hot N Ready-Live; Everybody Knows (previously a B-side from the Making Contact era), but the real gem is "Heel of a Stranger" from the Mechanix era. It's not a "great" song but just something about hearing Phil Mogg on a song these ears have never heard before- just priceless. The packaging is superb. Buy it!
