Though the downbeat electronica and laconic vocals of Cardiff-born Jem Griffiths find her lumbered with a "Dido-wannabe" tag, she's actually much more adventurous than that. On the whole, Finally Woken sounds like someone finally told Beth Orton to cheer up, and at its best the album finds Jem reveling in all the studio tricks available to her. The opener, "They," loops a nonsensical children's chorus to create a mood of Danny Elfmanesque creepiness, while "Come On Closer" and "24" manage to use crunching electric guitars and strings while avoiding any comparison to Evanescence. The title track combines a loping beat with a jazzy vocal delivery that's reminiscent of Portishead, and "Save Me" is a better-than-average R&B track that's sure to be covered for years to come. Unfortunately, too much of the album's latter half sinks into a slow-paced Didoesque electronic slurry, though Jem's to be applauded for at least trying to liven things up with the cod-reggae of "Wish I." --Robert Burrow
Customer Reviews:
Used to be a four but then I played it out.......2007-06-18
It happens. I think it's because there wasn't a lot of depth behind her music. I can be a sucker for the beat so that's what drew me in but after a while I got bored.
Wish we could hear more from Jem!.......2007-05-23
I've listened to Jem off and on for a long time and I think she is totally underrated! I love her soultry sounds and her beautiful voice. The only part I didn't like is the second half of the CD slows down and gets kind of boring. But the first half is great.
very happy with my purchase!.......2007-04-11
Love, love, love this cd!! Thank you so much!! Perfect shape and fast delivery!!
She leaves me wanting more............2007-03-14
Jem's velvet vocals drift sweetly through instrumentals funky, fresh, and grooving. SHe is an upbeat Enya, but more "modern" than New Age...Dido sans bubblegum. Where 80s bopchics splattered punk with hot pink, Jem paints it up pretty in pastel. THis album is versatile--the first half gets me energized during a workout, the last half sends me smiling to sleep at night.
WHERE'S THE NEW ALBUM???
NOT BAD.......2007-02-19
Some of it's upbeat, some of it's downbeat. Jem looks like a little kid, but she's got the smokey voice of a chanteuse. You'll probably like some of the cuts and others not so much like. It's a mixed bag but, overall, I'm glad I ran into this CD while searching for something else. This could be a refreshing change of pace from the usual stuff you've been listening to.

It's an enchanted world that Múm inhabit. Conceived in a remote Icelandic lighthouse, Finally We Are No One is an electronica album that conjures up hazy, half-remembered memories of childhood, both magical and eerie. The obvious comparisons are with Boards of Canada and Múm's compatriot, Björk. But as with their superb 2000 debut, Yesterday Was Dramatic, Today Is OK, Múm make a music that's far too original to be easily compartmentalized. So analog keyboards hum alongside muted digital glitches, and "proper" instruments--accordions, cellos, melodicas--flutter in and out of the mix. The overall effect is of a modern kind of folk music. It's gentle, almost-fey stuff, but the quartet (including twin sisters who appeared on the cover of Belle & Sebastian's Fold Your Hands Child, You Walk Like a Peasant) never slips into anything like polite ambience. Instead, the 11 pieces are like extracts from a particularly vivid dream journal, especially when the Valtýsdóttir sisters sing in their peculiar gurgling, infantilized way in the epically unfurling lullaby, "The Land Between Solar Systems." This is an album that leaves you longing for shady childhood experiences you never knew you'd even had. --John Mulvey
Album Description
Fat Cat are proud to announce their release by recent signings (2002) from Iceland, Mum. Highly-anticipated second album from this Icelandic 4-piece. Beautifully meshing some dense but intricate programming with gorgeous vocal and instrumental melodies, richly textured, hypnotic and unashamedly sumptuous.

good but monotonous.......2007-03-18
The tracks don't vary much. Needs a bit more to keep me listening to it instead of others in my collection.
great late night music from iceland........2007-02-10
iceland. sounds exotic. sounds beautiful. this is a great recording from that place. gorgeous melodies linger about the room when i play this disc. it's a perfect nighttime cd, mysterious sounding and haunting. the vocals enchant. I could never vomit listening to this music; it makes me feel too good. buy it for nights like heaven.
very interesting sound, but not quite my style.......2007-01-06
a good sound, a couple stand-out tracks but didn't impress me too much.
Worth it's weight in gold.......2006-03-15
This album could possibly be one of the best albums I own. It's in my top 10 albums of all time. I heard the song 'We have a map of the piano' on MySpace and had to get the album. I was blown away by how well the songs were put together and the sounds Mum experimented with.
My husband liked it too, and he is one tough cookie when it comes to experimental music. (He's british and likes 80's Brit music)
I can honestly say that Iceland produced a fine band in Mum, and they, like Bjork, are worth their weight in gold.
Spooky but accessible.......2006-01-18
Without a doubt their best CD. This is really creative stuff and conjures up these wonderful otherworldy places in your head. At times the music is similar to Four Tet, but I would say it is a little more accessible with a more consistent pace.
I've been listening to a lot of instrumental stuff recently (Advokat, Icebreaker, The Orb) and this one is definitely up there. It's really spooky in places but with catchy melodies.

GOOD rock cd........2007-07-18
A little heavier, and all around a little more even. I'm liking this cd alot more than the last two. Never really been a big fan but this album makes me reconsider. Best song is without a doubt Awake but there's lots of winners on here.
By Far SDS's best effort!.......2007-07-07
I had heard SDS's first two releases and thought that they were good, heart pumping rock. But I was not ready for this CD. With new producer, Paul Ebersold (Third Day- Wire) onboard, SDS has released a far superior effort to their first two CDs (and I liked those). The sound is bigger, the drums hit louder, and the guitars are fuller. The overall sound of the CD is simalar to Nickleback, but heavier. My one complaint is that most of the really good songs are at the beginning, but the whole CD is very listenable. Having seen these guys live, I am really impressed with their ministry. They are one of the few bands that don't put out that "Rock star" vibe. All in all, a very good hard rock CD. It stands up well against their mainstream counterparts.
Excellent CD!.......2007-06-22
Seventh Day Slumber's new album "Finally Awake" is Christ worthy rock that I believe any Christian rock fan is going to love.
1. Awake 10/10 - This is a very heavy and solid rock track. The vocals are spot on, and the guitar will totally rock you. The lyrics have to do with peer pressure, and trying to look like someone else instead of yourself. Wonderful song.
2. Last Regret 7/10 - A metal fashioned lament, woeing the singers lost years without Christ. A good strong melody, and wonderful guitar save this song, as the vocals resort to screaming more than once.
3. Missing Pages 10/10 - Wonderful tune. This is the CD's main radio hit, and it shines. Basically this song speaks out to lost people who have built walls around their hearts and souls.
4. My Only Hope 10/10 - Great rock song about Christ being our only hope. One of the heavier songs on the album.
5. Always 9/10 - Great acoustic drven ballad.
6. Breaking Away 10/10 - My favorite ballad on the album. The change from verse to chorus is amazingly unique, and the lyrics are so encouraging. "Breaking away, from everything that's hopeless, the world ahead looks wonderful today."
7. Burning Bridges 10/10 - The next great fist pumper on the album. I like to listen to this one cranked up.
8. Undone 10/10 - A wonderful ballad that finds the band crying out to Jesus, asking for restoration.
9. On My Way Home 9/10 - Yet another great ballad.
10. Broken Buildings 10/10 - Heavy rock set to a punk beat and a major key, I love it.
11. Every Saturday 8/10 - Great closing number, not as great as "Breaking Away" or "Undone" but a good slow song to close the album.
Overall this is a great CD that I hope you get the chance to enjoy.
AWESOME REAL CHRISTIAN PERFORMERS.......2007-05-02
I had the pleasure of seeing these guys perform at a local church and they were amazing!! They, especially Joseph, the lead singer, have such an amazing passion for the Lord and they make that known in every song, but without making it too corny. Awesome rock songs that when you sing along with them you really are praising the Lord. I highly recommend this CD to anyone, Christian or not.
Good Music With Very Good Lyrics.......2007-04-11
'Finally Awake' is a very good rock album.
Many of the songs contain powerful guitars and drums with a rather hard rock sound. Some of the tracks are a bit mellower. All contain positive lyrics with a Christian theme.
Seventh Day Slumber is never one to shy away from referring to God or Jesus in their music. This collection is no exception to that.
Some of the songs that are very good include the following: Awake, Breaking Away, Undone, On My Way Home, and Every Saturday. I particularly like 'Missing Pages'.
As an aside, if you have not seen this group in concert, they would be a great one to catch. In addition to their very enjoyable music, the lead singer, Joseph Rojas, has a very powerful testimony that will make an impression on anyone.
I recommend this album. It is a good one for anyone. Harder rock fans will particularly like it.

CD review.......2007-03-10
This is a replacement of many CD's that were stolen from my car. She is great!. Lots of energy in this album
Oh So Happy.......2006-08-14
CeCe just has it going on on this disk....opens with a jumper and "Keeps on Walkin'". Her vocals are incredible...after seeing her in person at the club I work in, it made me listen to each track again with a harder ear..this girl can sing!!!! Great disk and what a voice on Inside I Cry.
Da Bomb!.......2006-01-13
When this album dropped in '92, I thought that it was "all that and a bag of chips"! I still do.
Rolling out of Phoenix, Ce Ce was a refreshing, upbeat change from Mary J Blige, who was hitting the airwaves around the same time. "Keep on Walking" is one of the tunes that pumps you up wit a tight hook. I still remember the video! "Finally" celebrates finding the 'one'. But I think the real gem on this album (and I'm crazy about all of the tunes) is "Inside That I Cried", a true ballad of regret and remorse expertly delivered.
If you want the best of Ce Ce Peniston, this is the album to get. Unfortunately, her subsequent efforts did not even come close to this gem.
"Some people listen to remember, some people listen to forget"!
Keep on Walkin.......2005-11-26
My Favorite Club/Pop song of all time and thats not the only song on this Cd good songs up tempo beats is the story of this album if you like early 90 club music get this!
Excellent From Start To Finish! Almost..........2005-04-17
CeCe's debut is a wonderful gem with sizzling house tracks and sexy slow jams. There were some points of filler and some misplaced tracks, but overall a solid, decent album. Let's look at each track individually, shall we?
1. We Got A Love Thang (10/10): The album's opener. Very upbeat, happy, a good way to start the album!
2. Finally (9/10): The song that started it all. I love hearing it even 14 years after its release. It's really, REALLY catchy.
3. Inside That I Cried (10/10): The first slow jam of the album. She really does it up and really showcases her vocal range on this one. We go straight back to the dance tracks with...
4. Lifeline (10/10): A deep house track. I love deep house, so this song is probably my favorite track on the album.
5. It Should Have Been You (8/10): This was another good house track, but it was way too long. Almost 6 minutes...
6. Keep On Walkin' (10/10): The other song that Miss CeCe is known for. Very hip track.
7. Crazy Love (8/10): This was a good track, BUT a big mistake was using a very generic beat that been done to death at that point. The piano and strings saved this one.
8. I See Love (6/10): Probably the worst song on the album, but it's still pretty good. It's just so generic it sounds like it could have been sung by any random four-member black boy band in the early -90s (Shai, Boyz II Men, take your pick).
9. You Win, I Win, We Lose (9/10): This was a good track and it wasn't too long either. It would have made for a better closing track than...
10. Virtue (8/10): A good uptempo track. And the message is really good, too. It shouldn't have been a closer though.
And there you have it. Overall, the album rates about a (8.5/10), and I'll throw in 1.5 points for her AMAZING voice!

Karen.......2007-07-12
So great I bought it THREE times. If it got scratched or lost... I went to get it again. BEAUTIFUL!!!
YOU'D BE ABSOLUTELY MENTAL NOT TO BUY THIS....LOL.......2006-09-08
Alright...Im going to say this only once....BUY THIS BY ANY MEANS NECESSARY...for those of you who read my reviewS know that I rarely give 5's...but this was just beyond logic..... the producers, the BGV's, the guest appearances, need I go on. If you've never been introduced to any of the Clarks..., this is the CD to purchase.
From beginning to the end the CD is brilliantly produced. Your yoke will dissipate, and your joy will increase... and you shall have strength like never before. Just for Me (written by Kelly Price).., is a great personal song more of a "in the closet prayer song". "Nothing without you" which feature Faith Evans...is great...........I realize that I am nothing without you...which is great to hear come from someone who doesn't sing gospel music..I give Evans her props for acknowledgment. Praise Festival is also another contempo melody...here I believe J Moss pushes the rap...but there is a version with Karen pushing the rap....it's nice....."I can't take it"....is a GREAT song for someone who is good at concealing their pains....I know it ministered to me. The remaining of the CD is the live portion of the CD...which is produced by none other than the musical genius D.Lawrence.....Which also features Tri-City Singers at the best.....the Clark sisters back in our eyes with old school jams....and the introduction of KiKi to the rest of the world..(cause she was already doing big things in COGIC before this)...D.Lawrence must have been a great student in school...and then to be a fan of the Clark sister really help him to pull these songs off...Jesus is a Love Song, is a Clark classic...written by Twinkie Clark in the 80's (from the Conqueror Album)...GREAT REMAKE...it really makes a difference to the present generation that the remakes are close to the originals ...because we can't find these recordings.....I really appreciate D.Lawrence not putting a big spin on the remakes...Balm in Gilead (which is another T.Clark composition that appeared on the Heart and Soul album) was just STUPID..I mean what better song to pick for the single.....POWERFUL...and INTERPETTED BETTER THAN THE ORGINAL (YEA I SAID IT)...however. ...they are not that much different. Holy thou art Holy reminds me of something Mattie Moss-Clark might have done.....really nice arrangement. and Tri-City sings under the annoiting ...Heaven is nice...sounds like something that might have been on a Tri-City Album....Couldn't Tell it If I Tried..(OMG)...Karen just told the truth...even if I tried....It would take a llllllong time....A Praying Spirit....(yet another T.Clark composition that first appeared on the Count it all Joy Album)...beautiful interpretation of this prayer.....The Will of God is another oldie that appeared on an old Mattie Moss Clark recording back in the day...but this introduces KiKi Sheard.....someone else who will carry the torch onward.....Also if you can...get the video...the Clark sisters also touch Pure Gold..which is another GREAT song....These songs have meaning that reaches the very pit of the soul....and can cause a great change....only because they are scripture-based......BUY IT....THIS IS A MUST HAVE....
20 Stars should be an option for this treasure!.......2006-08-10
This is by far one of the best, if not the best, female inspirational albums... Karen has a sheer, true talent for singing... I don't know if she writes her material or not... but whoever does, BIG BIG KUDOS!!!! This is an EXCELLENT Album... the song "Gotta Right" is just awesome... "Can't Take It" is a song that EVERYONE can relate to or Will be able to relate to at some point in their life... "Praise Festival" is a low-key feel good song... I mean, all the tracks are great, I can't say enough about this album... Karen has that VOICE... hard to explain, she's just got it... she was born to sing... All I can say is young or old you should enjoy it because it's not too modern... but not too traditional either... she's right there in the middle giving you just what you need... I think every track beginning to end is wonderful... but the standout track... and I think many can agree... "Jesus Is a Love Song." I mean this is what Gospel is all about.... I had the cassette for this (before I got into CD's) and then I saw it in a CD case a co-worker had about 4 years back and traded a few of my prized cd's for this one in exchange... fearing I wouldn't be able to find it on my own! (before I knew anything about online shopping) but nevertheless... it's a prized possession... I would actually buy an extra copy just in case something ever happens to the one I have now! Yes... it's that deep :o) The songs on this CD have healing power... If you have it ENJOY IT.. if u don't have it.. GET IT GET IT GET IT GET!!!!!
A Balm in Gilead.......2006-04-08
Karen's CD has provided healing for ten years to date. I was junior and/or senior in college when I first heard her CD. Ten years later, it is one of two CDs that I listen to on my way to work. For Healing, Intimacy with God, thanksgiving and praise to the Almighty, this CD is a must.
AMAZING .......2006-04-06
NOW I CAN SEE WHY PEOPLE LOVE THIS CD. THIS CD IS OFF THE CHAIN. I FINALLY GOT IT AND I LOVE IT. KAREN IS THE BEST. HER VOICE IS AMAZING. MY FAVORITE SONG IS "JESUS IS A LOVE SONG" SHE LET HER SELF GO AND LET THE LORD USE HER IN A MIGHTY WAY. THIS CD IS OFF THE CHAIN.

Album Description
THE PARAGON RAGTIME ORCHESTRA (finally) PLAYS 'THE ENTERTAINER' is the latest recording by the world's only professional ensemble devoted exclusively to American popular music of the late 19th and early 20th Centuries. With this new 72 minute disc, the PRO pays tribute to the "classic" rags of Scott Joplin as well as compositions by his disciples Joseph F. Lamb, Arthur Marshall, and James Scott. Included are favorites such as the "Maple Leaf," along with the world premier recordings of several original early 1900s orchestrations that have only recently come to light (among them, Harry L. Alford's arrangements of Joplin's "The Sycamore," "Eugenia," "Magnetic Rag," and his 1918 foxtrot setting of James Scott's "Dixie Dimples"; F. H. Losey's 1907 orchestration of Joplin's "Rose Leaf Rag"; and Carl F. Williams [c1875-?] arrangements of Joplin's "Stoptime" and "Search-Light" rags). Scott Joplin's own orchestration of James Scott's "Frog Legs Rag" is also presented. ! Rounding out these choice syncopated selections are a number of historically correct "reproduction" scores crafted by PRO conductor Rick Benjamin.
THE PARAGON RAGTIME ORCHESTRA (finally) PLAYS 'THE ENTERTAINER' was recorded using the latest 21st Century "high definition" digital recording techniques in the sumptuous acoustics of Mechanics Hall in Worcester, Massachusetts. No effort or expense was spared to capture a realistic and crystal clear sound that should please the most discerning listener. Of further interest, all the instruments played for the sessions were period antiques (including PRO's 1910 Ludwig & Ludwig drum kit), giving the disc a further glow of warmth and authenticity.
Complimenting the recording itself is a whimsical 12-page, full color booklet created by the noted artist and ragtime scholar Chris Ware. A trove of rare photos, period advertisements, and score excerpts, this booklet, which sports conductor Benjamin's latest essay on Scott Joplin, should be of particular interest to aficionados of that era.
THE PARAGON RAGTIME ORCHESTRA (finally) PLAYS 'THE ENTERTAINER' caps this distinguished ensemble's 20-year recording career, and may well prove to be the "definitive" orchestral ragtime recording. It is a genuine "must have" disc for both the casual listener and the seasoned ragtime collector and enthusiast.
Customer Reviews:
The Babe Loves This Album.......2006-09-13
I have just bought my second copy of "The Paragon Ragtime Orchestra Finally Plays `The Entertainer.'" My original copy was stolen from my car when I was attending a Yankees vs Red Sox game. While the theft only mildly dampened my mood after a five game sweep by the Bronx Bombers over the hated Sox the larceny was mildly amazing.
The thief took the Paragon CD but left some fairly popular (modern) music CDs behind.
I can only rationalize this strange theft to the fact I parked on the street outside of Yankee Stadium at Babe Ruth Plaza.
It was probably the Babe's spirit that heisted the CD. After all Paragon's latest and arguably most wonderful CD is a treasury of music from the Babe's time, and if anyone knows just a little about Babe Ruth and the Ragtime era you know that this CD is Jumpin'.
"...Finally Plays The Entertainer" delivers a fine sampling of Scott Joplin's genius along with a couple of samples of the works of his "students" Arthur Marshall, Joseph Lamb and James Scott.
While familiar with some of Joplin's works this album has opened new vistas for me. While Joplin "101" favorites are here; the Maple Leaf (rag), The Easy Winners and of course The Entertainer - finally - pieces like Dixie Dimples, Eugenia and The Sycamore supplied me with some new smiles and a tapping foot.
Don't forget folks this scandalous music is the grandfather of Rock n'Roll, so if you buy "...Finally Plays The Entertainer" please make sure you supervise your children and grandchildren if they should happen to be listening. I hope this shocking music doesn't cause them to dance, or worse, break into my car and steal my other Paragon Orchestra CDs.
Nice Artwork.......2005-02-03
Nice artwork, as expected from Mr. Ware, but this time, the contents are not on the level! The liner notes explain the lack of orchestration skills surfacing regularly at those times, but is that a reason to play less carefully than on the other PRO recordings (the REALLY outstanding "More Candy" and "Black Manhattan", for example)? Especially the pretty rough drums playing is an annoying setback, compared to the fine balance those mucicians achieve in their other recordings. Still probably the best rendering possible of that music, I think...
Another Hit from Paragon.......2004-11-11
As usual the Paragon Ragtime orchestra has another hit. Wonderful Performance and very informative notes. My only didssapointment was that the Joplin pieces were period style arrangements by Rick Benjamin. Nevertheless, this is a wonderfully enjoyable album.

The Flaming Lips are a rarity. Here, after all, is an outfit that helped blaze the trail for the alternative revolution, thrived in their late '80s/early '90s heyday when outré were in, and continue to flourish long after most of their off-the-beaten-path peers have faded away. It's doubtful many of their scattered '80s champions would have predicted the Lips would be going strong decades down the road, given their chaotic, uncompromising, and just generally weird aesthetic. This aptly named three-disc collection chronicles the band in their wilderness years. Featuring the Oklahoma group's self-titled debut EP, their first three proudly erratic full-length LPs (including 1987's truly inspired Oh My Gawd!!!), and 16 bonus cuts, it captures a band that owed as much to early Pink Floyd as to the Ramones. Those who have discovered the band through the relatively accessible likes of 1999's The Soft Bulletin and 2002's Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots will find the primal psychedelia here mind-blowing, in a familiar sort of way. --Steven Stolder
Album Description
Full Title - Finally, The Punk Rockers Are Taking Acid. The first, and largest, of two archival sets from Restless which collects nearly all the material released by the Flaming Lips before they left independent rock for one of the most unexpected major-label deals in history. Over the course of three discs, it tells the story of what Wayne Coyne calls 'a talentless, inexperienced, poorly conceived, poorly equipped drug damaged group of friends and family who had an enthusiasm for punk, new wave and classic rock.' Remastered and includes over 16 bonus cuts of demos, live recordings and covers. The bonus tracks are 'Killer On The Radio', 'Batman Theme', 'Anyway, Anyhow, Anywhere', 'Handsome Johnny', 'Groove Room', 'Jesus Shootin' Heroin', 'Trains, Brains & Rain', 'Communication Breakdown', 'One Million Billionth Of A Millisecond On A Sunday Morning' (live), 'Death Valley 69', 'Thank You', 'Can't Stop the
Customer Reviews:
The title explains what you'll find here pretty well.........2005-03-14
If you like albums like THE SOFT BULLETIN and YOSHIMI BATTLES THE PINK ROBOTS, be forewarned that that sound is light years away from what you'll find here. This collection includes early material from a time when the Lips' biggest influences (as mentioned by Wayne Coyne in the liners) were a combination of psychedelic music of the 60s, arty English new wave (Psychedlic Furs,Bauhaus,Echo and the Bunnymen), and some of the early alternative acts (Redd Kross, R.E.M.,Black Flag,Meat Puppets, B*tthole Surfers). Expect a lot rawer sound that owes quite a bit to punk and garage rock and not much to the lush orchestrated pop the Lips make these days.
The set features material from "The Flaming Lips EP", "Hear it Is","Oh My Gawd! The Flaming Lips","Telepathic Surgery" and various unreleased tracks and live rarities from 1983-1989. Additionally, it is not Wayne Coyne who sings on tracks #1-5,#16-19 (disc 1) and #12-16 (disc 2), but his brother Mark (who later left the band).
Best tracks here are: the punk loner fantasy of "My Own Planet" (heard in a live rendition on Disc 3 that begins acoustic then accelerates into punk mayhem), "Can't Exist"'s collision of distorted garage rock guitar and singer-songwriter acoustic strumming, the nonsensical imagery ('All your teflon pancakes always make me too high') in the catchy "Can't Stop the Spring", the musings on love in "Chrome Plated Suicide", and a passable amped up cover of Neil Young's "After the Gold Rush".
The set is bogged down by many cuts which are mainly excuses to noodle around with guitar noise ("U.F.O. Story" is a particularly egregious example). Other lowspots include covers of the "Batman" television show theme song and Led Zep's "Communication Breakdown" and a 4 1/2 minute drum and heartbeat sound effect track intended as accompaniment while you read "As Diarrhea Smears the Space Bible" in the liners (AKA "Death Tripping Yer B*** off at Sunrise"). Can you say "artsy-fartsy"?
Bottom Line:
Occasional glimmers of latter day Lips can be heard here, but this is probably more for fans of punk/psych music and completist Lips fans than those who love their orchestrated but skewed pop on albums like "Soft Bulletin" and "Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots".
Additional Note: Some of the discs appear to have been pressed with the tracks out of sequence. On CD1, track 3 is clearly "Garden of Eyes/Forever is a Long Time" but the CD insert labels it as "Scratchin' the Door" which is actually track 4.
Fascinating.......2005-01-27
"..Acid" is a triple CD set featuring the Flaming Lips' self-titled EP and their first three LP's ("Hear It Is", "Oh My Gawd!!!", and "Telepathic Surgery"), plus some bonus tracks (demos/covers/etc).
The songs are hit or miss. If you're only familiar with "The Soft Bulletin" or "Yoshimi" era Lips, this will be a shock. If you know "She Don't Use Jelly", picture that song..only noisier and without the infectious hook. That's a good description of The Flaming Lips' early material. Like the title suggests, rooted in punk rock, and glossed over in a druggy, psychedelic haze.
The EP features Wayne Coyne's brother on lead vocals (he left shortly afterwards). Songs like "Scratchin' at the Door" meander left and write without any real melody. It sure is an interesting listen though.
That applies to 1986's "Hear It Is" as well. Highlights include "With You" (power ballad + screeching guitar noise), "Jesus Shootin' Heroin" (scariest song ever), "Trains, Brains & Rain" (which has a genuine pop hook), and "Godzilla Flick" (a mournful accoustic ballad).
1987's "Oh My Gawd!!!" is probably the best album on here. Some of the more memorable moments include: "Everythings Explodin" (a noisy assault), "Maximum Dream for Evil Knievel" (a trippy, Pink Floyd like dirge), "The Ceiling is Bendin" (a delicious slice of warped psychedelia), "Thanks To You" (which borrows from Led Zeppelin's "Thank You", which is actually covered later in the set), and "Love Yer Brain" (a mid-tempo ballad which culminates in a destroyed piano and a loop from "Tomorrow Never Knows").
1989's "Telepathic Surgery" is the most sprawling and difficult of the three. But there's some good stuff to be found; "Chrome-Plated Suicide" (a pop song that borrows heavily from "Sweet Child O' Mine"), "Right Now" (raucous fun), "Miracle on 42nd Street", "Begs & Achin" (more racuous fun), "Shaved Gorilla" (which sounds like The Cure in a twisted sort of way), and the totally bizarre "UFO Story".
Like I said, this is largely hit or miss. There is some genuinely good stuff in here..but this set is more for curious fans who want to hear The Lips' beginnings. Before they really knew the fine art of songwriting.
3 Stars for the songs, 5 Stars for the 'interesting' factor..so call it 4 altogether.
Oh come on!.......2004-03-27
THIS is the Flaming Lips, more than the latest two albums. The FLips are punk rock guitar pioneers and if you don't know that (and you can't tell it from Pink Flamingo Robot Sushi or whatever it is), then you might like Super Tramp too. Please, bring the guitars next time, Wayne.
ACID : SIMPLE, CLEVER.......2003-01-22
This collection of Lips songs shows the different styles of music the lips can record. I have to say that there are many other lips cds that are better, but if your into acid rock this is a perfect buy for you. The songs express the feelings and opinions of the group. One of my favorite songs on this collection is the Charlie Manson Blues and A Bag Full Of Thoughts, simple, yet clever.I definently recomend thier new albumn however, Yoshimi battles the pink robots, it shows their talent with a smooth rythmic beat, and good lyrics.
Good collection of Flaming Lips old material.......2003-01-04
Admittedly this is no Yoshima but it is a more out of control approach and it might sound all over the place at times but it is sure to have some sort of satisfaction for listeners

Description
"We are a country band, but we'll be what ever you want us to be. That's the beauty of doing what we do, the music's free to be anything that you want it to be." That's how Bart Crow describes their style of music. And with so many great bands running up and down the highways and with all of the great artist working here in Texas, it's a known fact that one must come with their A-Game to make it here. Well, that's just what the Bart Crow Band does every time they take the stage. Bart Crow describes their sound as "a unique blend of country & rock with a lot of heart & soul." "I love the music and stories of my heroes, Ronnie Van Zant, Waylon Jennings, and Johnny Cash, and I just do my best to do what they did, be real
that's all". With songs that intertwine and weave stories that walk the line between redemption and despair, Bart Crow writes songs from the heart that leave you wondering, was singing about me, or drawing off of his own emotions on life, love, & friends. The Bart Crow Band is made up of some of the finest musicians that Texas has to offer, each bringing their own styles & sounds to the table. Drummer Charles Simons brings his heavily country influenced drumming style, while bassist Kirk Richardson, formally of Speed Trucker fame, brings his razor-sharp bass licks to keep the sound on a country-rock edge. Top it off with the blues-rock style of lead guitarist Paul Russell; what you're left with is a hard working band that can light up any stage with their driving live performance.

Props to Brie Larson!.......2006-07-02
Brie's got major talent in such a pretty package. I bought FOOPE last year and listen to it all the time. Songs like "Loser In Me", "Done With Like", "Falling Into History", "Finally Out Of P.E.", and "She Said" are among my favorites. But why limit myself? The music is all good. Go out right now and buy this album.
She's no invisible girl!.......2006-06-13
Brie Larson has been writing songs since she was 12 and she landed a record deal when she was 15. Brie, who will be 17 in october, says that she is proud that Finally Out of P.E is out, but the album shows what she felt when she wrote these songs and not what she feels now. So if she felt and wrote such great songs when she was 12 and 13, imagine what her NEXT album is going to be like!
Brie has got to be one of the more talented singer/songwriters out there. She breaksaway from the other young singers with her touch of originality. You can see Brie's personality shining through in the songs.
The best tracks on the album with reference to lyrics and music would have to be 'She Said', 'Falling Into History' and 'Go Goodbye' although all the other tracks are also wonderful.
