    When The Lights Go Down is an album that's perfect for a night on the beach. It's airy and full of grooves perfect for lounging or a night out. The way I see it is as a eurodance cd created in America. It's got plenty of synths and simple beats, great melodies and a female vocalist that's not half bad for music of this sort. Songs like "Feel" and "The Move" are perfect for cruising through the city on a summer evening. The production on this album spells class from front to back, but the only thing that almost kills it for me is the male vocalist.

    Why in the world the producer decided to rap on this album is beyond me. His raps walk the line between 2 Unlimited's Ray Slijngaard and Vanilla Ice, they're really that bad. When he attempts to sing, he's even worse. I could have sworn this album was crafted in Europe when I had first heard it, as it was apparent to me that he had a very loose grasp of the English language and just decided to spout nonsensical jibberish as many eurodance artists do when they try singing in English.

    If you can get over a corny male vocalist who should've just stayed behind the boards, and you are into loungy dance music, you should enjoy this album quite a bit. I'm interested in hearing their next album, should there be one - it's a shame more people don't give this duo a chance - aside from a couple of missteps, they're really not that bad.

    If you want to feel really good, this is a definite go-to CD. High energy music that makes my day. Look forward to the next release. Can't wait to hear Sojorn live!

    It's hard to typecast this grooving bunch. Those who see them live rave about them, unfortunately I'm miles (x 1000) from Texas. Pick up Private Bag and Yesterday and you won't stop listening. Not a bad track in the mix. Private Bag shows how good they are live with the second set of tunes.

    What more could you want? A horn section that lays a groove and smokes some tight riffs. Vocals that are spot on. Rhythm section that lays it down.

    Don't want to compare them because they are on their way to being incomparable! But you can hear it all from Oakland to N'awlins... and then some.

    These guys are great live!!
    Ran into them performing on a weekend trip to Austin -
    they are one of those few bands you prefer to hear live.
    Either way the CD is amazing. I hope they make it big,

    It's hard to categorize Mingo Fishtrap because they have so many influences. Bottom line, Mingo is a talented jam band that has soul and funk laced into their rock. The closest comparison I have is the 70s band Tower of Power, which Mingo likes to cover sometimes. Do yourself a favor, buy this album then go see them when they come to your town! They tour Austin, San Antonio, and DFW frequently. I'm surprised they haven't made it nationwide yet, their sound is so unique and their band is so diverse. The bass player is the father of the lead singer! How cool.
    The best track on FROM THE PRIVATE BAG is Bitta Honey, it's a catchy jazzy tune that you will listen to over and over!

    This CD consists of 2 Prestige recordings Gene made on successive days in October 1961, "Up Tight" and "Boss Soul." Ammons was in fine form on both days. Everything recorded gets your attention, whether it be a slow ballad like "I'm afraid the masquerade is over" or an up-tempo swinger like "Lester leaps in." There are no mighty peaks here, or are there any valleys--just solid right-on playing.

    This was my first experience with Gene Ammons. My father bought me this cd...and when we put it on I fell in love with the quality that Gene brings forth into his music. This passionatly smooth sound he can express on the saxaphone i have found to be unrivaled by any other saxaphonist to date (Saxaphone is my favorite instrument for jazz so i have quite a few favorites) Anyway....I highly highly recommend this cd for all bebop lovers!!! Also...what's great is how he covers the classics and the way he plays his own compositions sound like instant classics!! Gene Ammons was truly a wonder to marvel at!!!
