5 out of 5 stars Superstar Material .......2007-01-10

Tanya does an amazing job on Natural Thing (1994)Superstar Material & Voice (*****)
She should have hit the charts with greater success, obviously. Let's hope she can return to the R&B/Dance spotlight by recording some new material. Influences include Whitney Houston(on No More Lies), Ce Ce Peniston (on Natural Thing) Plus plenty of her own magic. Though The Rain,For The Right Reasons, Love Ballad, and Baby Love really make this package rock!
Tanya's voice is magic! You'll love all or most of this disc.

5 out of 5 stars brian.......2005-09-19

this is on of the most greatest albums i brought i never knew she have even done a cd up until recent when i heard through the rain i love it from the moment she started sing i love her from sister act she have a really powerful voice differs somewhat from whitney but alot compare to her vocal style on of my favorite song there is i don't wanna spend another nite that note she hits at the end of the song great just tonya if u out there i would love to record a song with u girl hopefully that day will come soon

5 out of 5 stars Beautiful.......2005-03-26

You can say she really has a Whitney-voice. So strong and beautiful. "For all the good reasons" is just one of the many beautiful songs on her album. She has soul, she has a message and she should have recorded much more. Today you can still catch her as a singer of Christian songs. Don't miss !

4 out of 5 stars Fabulous debut! .......2004-09-20

Ten years ago this past summer, I bought Tanya Blount's only album that she made. I was just blown away by her voice! I heard Through the Rain and immediately got her album. I also liked Hold On and her remake of LTD's Love Ballad. The other songs are just as solid a mix of smooth ballads and uptempo dance tunes. She sounded mature for her voice on these songs. I thought that her next album was going to come on Sean Combs' Bad Boy Records, but it never happened. Maybe the deal failed or something. I just imagined Puffy producing most of the album and maybe Mario Winans, Stevie J, Ron Lawrence and others on there. Would have been a hot album. Never took place. Tanya, if you're out there, you made a solid album and I wished that it would have been promoted a lot more. Shame on Mercury Records for dropping you off their roster--they missed out on a quality, soulful album you made for them!!!!!!!

4 out of 5 stars A NICE START.......2003-09-30

Tanya Blount was in SISTER ACT II, where she performed a stellar version of "His eye is on the sparrow"(with the great Lauryn Hill)

She has a strong voice and is enthusiastic. "Through the rain" is the big single on the album. It is a tender ballad and shows her to be a talented vocalist for her age at that time. The song features background vocals by Stacey Lattisaw! Tonya does a rousing remake of LTD's "Love Ballad". A song that is not easy for just anyone to remake. She does a splendid job. Another catchy single "Im gonna make u mine" did not fare as well, but is just as good nonetheless

Other standout tracks are "Is it Love"?, a duet with Freddie Jackson and the song "No more Lies". A truly talented singer who should definitely find a home on a label that believes in great singers. She should be heard and you should give her a listen!

Poi Dog Pondering have survived numerous lineup changes (Frank Orrall is the only constant member), geographical relocations (Hawaii to Austin, Texas, to Chicago), and musical shifts (their quirky folk-rock has added world rhythms, hip-hop beats, and a variety of instrumentation that an 11 piece band suggests). Natural Thing is their sixth album and emphasizes enough of a R&B groove to draw comparisons to the freewheeling spirit of Sly and the Family Stone, with every member stepping up to provide a track's special moment. The title cut trades vocals, speaks of "love and devotion," and juxtaposes a laid-back soul groove with a hippie flute. This eclecticism allows the band to vamp in any chosen direction. "Diva (Live at the House of Sound)" moves the band into the techno scene, meshing ambient tones and quick-stepping pulses with the natural sounds of piano. "Berry" adds rap to the mix. This band likes to explore its many options. --Rob O'Connor

Album Description

5 out of 5 stars This one's the hooker.......2007-01-03

THIS is the CD that hooked me into Poi 6 years ago. I just got back from Chicago seeing them on stage live for the first time. What a classy, well put together combination of sounds that can appeal to just about everyone being that every song is a bit different from the next. I have collected just about all of the Poi CDs and was thrilled with their show - definitely worth the trip. I recommend starting with this CD and if you like the sounds buy forwardly not previously as their sound is much hippier from the "olden days". Both of their live sets released are in my player for months at a time. This is a band that just keeps getting better and better. Thank you Frank and in and out members for your contribution of beautiful sound! A real fan from PA loves you!

5 out of 5 stars An unexpected treasure.......2005-12-28

I discovered this album by accident and loved it immediately. I understand this isn't their typical sound. Older fans may be put off. Whatever. All I know is that heard cold with no expectations, this album slowly reveals itself to be a magnificent work of art.

...and okay, okay, the track with the mellow rapping on it sucks. But it's less than three minutes long and easily skipped...

5 out of 5 stars Poi Dog has got to be one of the best in the genre.......2002-05-01

I was given this CD as a gift and have played it everyday at least once, for the last four months! It is an outstanding musical experience.

5 out of 5 stars First Poi Album...& blown away by it........2000-10-26

I recall PDPs earlier hits on the radio in the early 90s, and thought the band had disappeared, so I was suprised to hear Jealous on the radio...a "comeback" effort? I decided to give the band a shot and bought Natural Thing. I was floored. This was one of the best CDs I've heard in the last three years at least. An outstanding interpretation and synthesis of different musical styles with a strong "soul" groove to it. The music is very upbeat, especially Ta Bouche Es Tabou. Every song is excellent, even the instrumentals. Ive collected some of the earlier Poi stuff (going backward) so I can see how the band evolved and how some of the earlier fans might not appreciate the direction. But this is one hell of a band and one hell of an album. You cant go wrong with it.

5 out of 5 stars How can you go wrong with Poi?.......2000-06-22

Now that it has been out for over a year, and many can get over the "personnel" change with PdP, I think that I can say that I enjoy this CD sooo much. Sure it is not like early Poi (Volo Volo), but do you really expect it to be? This band has changed with almost every cd. Natural Thing flows so easily from one song to the next. It is very much refined. From the opening song Octavio/Beautiful to meet you, to Natural Thing, to Spend My Life to Jealous, this is an excellent album to own. Poi at its best! In fact I'm going to see them this saturday!

PS There is a new "live" cd coming out Aug 8, and a new Studio probably early 2001.

4 out of 5 stars Great, but no prize.......2002-03-31

The selections from the Ring trilogy, Friends in need and Fallen Angel were excellent, however, some of the special request such as joxer the mighty, seemed a little bit rushed. Wasn't that song on Volume 2 already? Where was M'Lila's song from Destiny, or the music played During the first Kiss in "The Quest"
The cd has its good points, personally "It's Over" from "THAB" with its haunting melodies portraying the consequences of war.

5 out of 5 stars Xena;Warrior Princess volume six.......2002-01-09

I am so happy that the last and final cd has come out, now my collection is complete. I am very sad for the show ending, but I am glad to still collect things.

5 out of 5 stars Great Collection.......2001-12-25

Well, I have them all by now, but this last one is a great collection, with the added bonus of the music from A Friend In Need.
Just another fine addition to my Xena collection!

5 out of 5 stars Exceptional.......2001-11-30

I am a fanatic and devoted Xenite.I have a huge problem:i can't stop listening to that cd,since the first time i listened to it,which means 1 month! That cd is really exceptional and i think that every true and genuine Xenite should buy it!It's really good!I was moved when i heard the Fallen Angel part.I was passioned when i heard the Ring Trilogy!I was astonishing when i heard the bonus cues that were included, especially the cue from The Quill Is Mightier(fishin part),oh,i was completely satisfied!
Though, there is a complain:i can't understand, why after 6 cd's,the producers don't do a cd including cues like:M'laila's song, the cues from the Bacchaen festival, music from Deja Vou All Over Again, where in the end,Gabrielle says to Xena those wonderful words,or even the scene of the kiss in The Quest! That,i can't understand it!
Last, i believe that whoever likes LoDuca's music style, should buy this cd.
Pay attention to the 22 cue:Pas De Deux Femmes. It is one of a something and whoever remembers what's the scene of this song, will agree with me!Mmmm!

4 out of 5 stars A MIX OF THE BEST, THE WORST AND THE MISSING.......2001-11-29

To all truly Xena fans this CD is a must-have but have some lacks... Fun (comedy episodes music) scores destroy the the great combination of FALLEN ANGEL, THE RHEINGOLD TRILOGY AND I FRIEND IN NEED. In the first selections LoDuca creates spectacular high level music good enough to be played in a Symphony orchestra concert. The others selections have easy-to-fill-space western cowboy music instead of put M'Lilas song of DESTINY, Amazon's climbing trees of ADVENTURES IN THE SIN TRADE and NAJARA vs XENA music that would be gladly accepted by us. I doubt the company will launch a next CD but if they'll do this track and another valuable more must be there and the adittion of some famous characters quotes like "I have many skills" from Xena.

4 out of 5 stars Merle Haggard's stepson!.......2007-04-13

This guy is real country. While he does sound a lot like Keith Whitley and Lefty, I think he really sounds a lot like his former stepdad, Merle Haggard. And of course Lefty was a huge influence on Merle. Ron's mom Leona was Merle's third wife, and it sure seems that some of the Hag's talent rubbed off on this young man. Great album, nice assortment of songs. If you like the real country sound, this is a good addition to your collection!

5 out of 5 stars WOW! A real find!.......2005-06-15

I heard Ron Williams at the Wildhorse and liked him very much but didn't get an album. Then I heard a track, "Bag of Chips," on a collection of new singers and said WHO IS THIS GUY??? When I checked the label and saw it was, indeed, the same Ron Williams, I rushed to buy the album on which it appears. Ron Williams is the Real Deal. GET THIS ALBUM!

5 out of 5 stars Country's Coming Back!!!!!!!!.......2004-12-05

A breath of fresh air for us country listeners. In a world where most real country is not played on the radio and most young stars are making Pop Country albums, Ron Williams went the right way. From the toe tapper "Rent Free" to the "rip your heart out" Tired of Being Something", this cd brings out the true country in me! The song "World Class Honky Tonk" is a lot of fun, while "Behind the Eight Ball Again" shows me that Ron is destined for stardom. That is as long as he sticks to doing what he did to catch my ear in the first place. The entire cd is good and worth a listen, but the previously mentioned songs are the best of the bunch. I hope there will be more "tears in my beer" style songs from this new and inspiring young country star.

One might remember Jonathan's pop hit from '71, "Sunshine(Go Away Today)". This excellent pop/folk, singer/songwriter recorded a great country album in '89 called "The Natural Thing". Backed by a host of great writers and session players such as Mac McAnally, Russell Smith, Gary Nicholson, Edwards scored a chart hit "Look What We Made". Re-released in '97 with new cover art, this CD should be in any counrty music and/or Jonathan Edwards' fan collection.

4 out of 5 stars Had a moderate radio sucess hit with "look what we made".......1998-04-30

If Jonathan Edwards were better at promoting his records with the radio stations, this album would have had at least 1 or 2 top one hundred country songs on it. Talented song writers like Dave Loggins and and David Goodman have lent their works to this album. Definite must for JE fans!
