A simply good album from a less heard Diva.......2002-11-28
If many of you haven't heard of Miki Howard Love Confessions is an album to start your Miki Howard collection. This cd starts with the jazzy Baby Be Mine which was released as the first single and simply is beautiful. You've Changed is a cover of the Billie Holiday hit which was also a single and no one sings it better than Miki That's what Love Is finds Miki dueting with former husband Gerald Levert and it's amazing with Gerald who many of you remember now is singing solo and this duet shows when Miki used to sing duets her way. In too Deep is a fun dance hit and will get you moving Crazy is a jazzy ballad and it is the best ballad in the world that is left off of love collections. Bitter love is a high energy dance hit that will get you dancing and toe tapping the whole time. Reasons and I wanna be there are two love ballads that are very lovely. The title track is a fun track that is moving and soulful. Edge of love {Released as a bonus track on the cd only}is from the Whoopi Goldberg movie Fatal Beauty is a saxophone tinged ballad that should have been released as a single. So try one of Miki's albums and you will not be disapointed. I also recomend Vesta's 1988 cd Vesta 4U to hear a wonderful voice like Miki's
Enjoy,

Miki's "Confessions" a sin to miss.......2000-09-06
With her sweet, soulful clarity and stunning good looks, it's always been a bit puzzling that Miki Howard wasn't a bigger star. Granted, she had a faithful fan following and a string of soul singles from the mid-80's to early 90's, but crossover success eluded her. But the blame is apparently to be laid on label politics and lazy publicists, as her sophomore recording, 1987's "Love Confessions," proves Howard to be one of the more talented and sophisticated singers R&B has ever seen.
The record demonstrates this on contact with the bluesy torcher of an opening track "Baby, Be Mine," a gospel-tinged treasure that shows off her voice as well as anything she's ever recorded; her ad libs in the final section are especially spine-tingling. A sleek, pop-flavored remake of the Billie Holiday staple "You've Changed" is another winner, and a duet with Gerald Levert, "That's What Love Is," ranks as one of the slickest-produced and joyously performed ballads of 80's R&B. The dancey "In Too Deep" and "Bitter Love" sound more than a little dated at this point, but the upbeat title track makes up for them with a classic dance/pop sensibility that still grooves hard today...and again Miki's soul cries and flourishes prove she's a sure-footed vocalist to be reckoned with. A slowed-down reading of Earth Wind & Fire's "Reasons" is icing on the cake, sure to win over fans of both classic and modern soul.
For those of us who cherish "Quiet Storm" artists like Roberta Flack and Anita Baker, this record still ranks as a strong outing years after its release. Lush and touching, Miki Howard's "Love Confessions" is full of soulful truths.
You've Changed.......2000-04-11
Mikki has one of the powerful voices. This piece could not only touch lives but mend broken hearts. All of her albums are nice, but this one can be played over and over agian. It's funky and soulful!
This cd is one of a kind, a must have item........1999-07-16
When I was a soldier in germany Miki Howard help me through my tour i played the tape until it would not play any more. :) Thanks Miki keep up the good work.

People You Don't Hear, But Should.......2006-12-24
When I had the time peruse the music stores and flip through the endless choices in the racks, I depended on nothing but instinct, intuition and a cynical view of the highly profiled, promoted and financed musical confetti of the Mega record companies to help me make music decisions for my purchases.
One does not have the time or money to listen to and buy all the music that is desired out of an impossible mass of recordings, but, when I saw this beautifull album years ago ( in vinyl), I had a sense it would be primo. The beautifully understated cover design and presentation made me feel these were people about music.....and I was right. The studio production is spare because little else is needed to augment this wonderfully focused and talented group singing a tight wealth of songs. There is not a wasted track on this album...everyone will have their different views about their favorites, but, it all because of different perspectives. In our current situation in Iraq, and the proposed threat of another military draft in the U.S, "Boys in Blue" has re-emerged as a tremendously timely, poignent, powerful, and beautiful anthem for the plight of the men and women bravely fighting in Irag and Afganistan in the worst of circumstances. This is beautiful music and musicians.
So good...but so obscure........2006-09-06
This very obscure 1987 release features some divine and exquisite Quiet Storm ballads that will please all romantic and smooth Soul fans. "Stay and Let Me Love You", "No Conversation", "Lover's Confessions" and "Turn Out The Lights" are understated but heartfelt tales of love and lust that will soothe your heart and soul. View From The Hill recorded just one album... but it was a near-masterpiece.

Exit 747 Will Get You Hooked.......2003-06-01
I first heard Tim "Love" Lee late one night when "Exit 747" started playing on an acid jazz college radio show. The song started out in the odd way it does, but, by the end, I was hooked. I proceeded to spend about two weeks trying to track down the album, but it was worth it.
It has less dance music than Lee's earlier album, but what it lacks in dancing, it makes up for in being one of the greatest late-night road trip albums in history.
Honestly.
Fantastic.......2001-05-09
When you first hear this cd, the first track will make you wonder just what you're in for. It's very dark and very ominous with sounds of airports and runways behind it.
Then, track two kicks in ("Twilight Reservation") and erases any doubts you may have had--you know that this will be an AWESOME journey. Almost chilling, with the lounge-esqe singer crooning (imagine Buddy Greco or Mel Torme) in the background as vibes soufully strike their way into your mind and heart and a vintage flat-top f-hole guitar strums eloquently.
The remaining songs do not fail to disappoint. Track 5 ("Bed Sheet Shuffle")is so extremely Mancini-esque that you will swear that it's a left-over track from any one of the Peter Sellers "Pink Panther" movies, or perhaps "Charade" starring the incredible Audrey Hepburn along side of Cary Grant. Or for those partial to the other side of things, it is very John Barry-ish and belongs in "Her Majesty's Secret Service."
As the other lone reviewer has described, Track 9 ("Sombre Hombre")is very beautiful. Very, very slow. With mr. sandman type vibes playing along side of sulking strings and a moog.
This is a very good late night cd. Although, I first heard it as I was driving in my car across the golden-gate bridge just as evening was giving way to night and that incredible burnt-orage glow could be seen setting into the pacific. And, this cd was perfect.
Get this one. You'll love it.
Wonderful soundscapes that defy logic........2000-12-22
After buying his first album, Confessions of a Selector I was intrigued enough to get the follow up. At first, it didn't seem as upbeat, as fun. But you listen to it a few times, and like many albums, you gravitate toward particular tracks that stand out. In this case, for me at least, Sombre Hombre is quite beautiful. Other tracks certainly deserve mention. Not just as background music, but quality time with the headphones or cranked up in the car.
It's probably one of those CD's you end up listening to so much, you get sick of it... you discard it for a while and then refresh your memory and everything's wonderful again!

Somewhere in this fair land of ours there are probably people who find the Reverend Billy C. Wirtz hilarious. There may even be people out there whose idea of a hysterical song is one about a late-night party in a refrigerator where the oysters are smoking and the eggs are cracking up. Those folks will love "Food Chain of Fools," a boogie-woogie number from Wirtz's A Turn for the Wirtz. Some listeners may even exist who want to hear a parody of Red Sovine's "Phantom 309," with the truck driver's ghost replaced by the wraith of a motel prostitute who saved a busload of Girl Scouts from an exploding magic-fingers machine; those fans will want to hear Wirtz's "Room 309." After all, some people find Bob Hope funny. --Geoffrey Himes
Customer Reviews:
Irreverent but not irrelevant.......2007-04-01
I feel very lucky, the Colorado Springs FAC, (Fine Arts Center), has
a piano that the Reverend Billy C. Wirtz is having an affair with. I
an lucky enough to see the Reverend every year, its one of those under
swell sell outs, not a hot ticket, but a sell out just the same. I even
have the prayer rug signed by the Reverend, "To One Hillbilly Love Got
To Another", and I proudly framed it and hung it in my bathroom, above
the commode. If you haven't seen the Reverend, I suggest you go see the
Reverend, as Cab Calloway said in the "Blues Brothers" movie, "You
better get some churchin up"! This is a 1/2 n' 1/2 album, studio/live.
which does not make it a bad CD, but to be forwarned is to be
foreskined. I mean, "Food Chain of Fool's" followed by "Hold the Mayo"
is funny just to read, wait till you hear it. I would listen to any
Reverend Billy C. Wirtz album before you by one, I have seen people walk
out of his concerts, to tell a secret though, they were rather stuffed
shirts, I talked them in the waiting line, I think they were FAC museum
donors, (big), and got free tickets for their donations. But it hasn't
stopped Reverend Billy from coming yearly in April.
Reverend Billy is funny........1999-08-19
One might or might not like how Wirtz sings or plays, or one might not like the fact that Billy is not politically correct, but his song-writing is consistently hilarious. I have seen Reverend Billy perform three times. The audience, both fans and first-timers, is ALWAYS in stitches. My only advice is to ignore, completely ignore, anyone who suggests otherwise.
