3 out of 5 stars HALF GREAT AND HALF NOT SO HOT.......2005-01-22

A FEW OF THE SONGS ARE GREAT, BUT I WAS TURNED OFF WITH SO MANY RAP TYPE SOUNDS THAT SOUND THE SAME, OVER AND OVER. THE WORST WAS THE HEAVY BREATHING AND MOANING SONG--WOULDN'T HE RATHER HEAR YOU? WE DON'T NEED THREE OF US. THE MOANING IS A DISTRACTION FROM THE MUSIC--HOW DO YOU DANCE TO MOANING?

1 out of 5 stars You call this strip club music?.......2004-02-13

Only 2 maybe 3 songs on this cd qualifies as strip club music. "B*Tch, Shake that A**" from dj Boss Pimp is REAL strip club music, this ain't.

This is a great compilation by all the original artists. It's great to find all these songs in one place...definetly a party favorite.

5 out of 5 stars Music that makes you feel "sexy-funky"........1999-01-27

When I first brought this CD into the office, everybody thought I was nuts. After just one listen, it became everyone's favorite. The music is sexy, funny, and funky. It is traditional in the office that we play this CD in the late afternoon when everyone's tired and needs a little pep. Everyone sings along to "Superfreak", "Brick House", and "Strokin'".

When I bought "Strip Jointz 2", all the guys went crazy! That is now the office's second favorite CD. These CDs are highly recommended!

Babyface's sought-after, chart-slaying days may be over, but it's all good. If there's one thing the R&B phenomenon demonstrates on Grown & Sexy, is that growing up is sexy. This he proves through a clutch of songs that are more emotionally ripe and satisfying than any of the tricked out tracks that have jerked-and-chugged their way onto recent love song shuffles. Rather than scavenging through Missy Elliott's backyard for an "it" sound, Babyface rummages in his own cellophane-smooth style, and it pays off handsomely. The layers of "Mad, Sexy, Cool" swirl over a pleasingly summery lyric and float into the sophisticated lust bath of "Can't Stop Now." "Sorry for the Stupid Things" speaks straight-up in an apologetic midtempo groove to wrongs committed in an adult relationship. "Good To Be in Love" spills out pure, hand-clapping celebration and "Gettin to Know U" explores a funked-up '70s-era Curtis Mayfield sensibility. As sexy as Grown may be, Babyface makes the case that keeping it real may be as hot as he needs to get. --Tammy La Gorce

5 out of 5 stars Babyface has never been better.......2006-08-21

If you like Babyface's music you MUST get this CD. You can listen to it over and over. The CD is excellent for a romantic evening. This CD goes through all the emotions of relationships. I don't have the CD in front of me right now but my favorite tracks are 1, 2, 6,7,&8. Mr. Edmonds is definitely grown and sexy; knows much more; has what you've been missing, etc (you need to listen to all 10 reasons. This is the CD that should be playing when you and someone special have it going down, you are in the final round, and sexy (listen to track 1)for the rest. I can't say enough good things about this CD, it is one of his best.

4 out of 5 stars he'snot a baby!!.......2006-07-28

babyface is not a baby so if you are looking for a baby that is singing insteasd of a man that is singing than maybe you need to buy a differant cd!! it is not ok with me that babyfce wants to be called sexy because he is not a girl he is a boy and only girls are sexy where i live!!! bethatasitmay babayface sings lots of songs on this cd that will help a lady stay at your house when even after she sees your collection of kitten statues and you tell her that there your moms and your keeping them but she doesn't believe you!! if you want to have girls stay at your house for longer than they were planning to this cd and the songs on it will help you convince her to do that ok?!!

5 out of 5 stars This Lifetime, It's Goin' Down!.......2006-05-23

This is such a mature, jazzy and mellow cd. The first date I went on with my very muscular, grown,& sexy man, he was jammin this cd. It really broke the ice, and eased the mood for me, considering his stature. Although we only kissed barely that day, by the end of the date, I was totally in love with my man. Since then, we have professed our love for each other. I dedicate this cd to our "kindred spirits".

4 out of 5 stars Next time try a gorgeous duet with Regina Belle...you won't be disappointed !.......2006-04-29

I always liked his music , he's one of the best on the market.
Lately he has made some wrong choices , looking for an easier success...The Anita Baker's story should teach him something....
I like this CD , but don't think that it's spectacular...
It's very much 'Babyface' , which is OK .
He needs some pure inspiration , some new excellent musicians , to try a new , a little more adventurous path and sing a song with Regina Belle , the most consistent and brilliant vocalist available nowadays...Just check her terrific latest 'Lazy Afternoon' out...
And most of all , he needs to forget the glitz and glamour and... the charts...
At 48 , he can't make more mistakes. What we're expecting from him next time is some really fresh , different , QUALITY contemporary music , which can stand the test of time.
If he is truly inspired , success will follow !

5 out of 5 stars sexy and cool sans the crazy..........2006-03-28

To put is simply, this album is as cool as the other side of the pillow. I mean, cool, sultry melodies with a gorgeous tenor or falsetto voice laid down on top of them, simply smooth all the way through. I'll tell you, whether you're looking for something to set the mood or something to just chill and relax to after a long, hard day, this one will definitely hit the spot.

2 out of 5 stars a deep disappointment.............2001-10-10

Being myself a big fan and lover of the sexy naked stylish sounds, I was - of course - looking forward to this Remix-Album of the 1999 release "What's on your mind"... but when I first listened to it, I was deeply disappointed... Reconstructed Soul proves why the "Naked People" (Jay Denes, Dave Boonshoft and Bruno Ybarra) definitely had to leave OM Records and build up a label of their own.. There is no concept in this album.. The tracklisting is terrible - it begins without feeling and continues changing from groovy house to downtempo and back.. 4 out of the 11 tracks are original versions from the '99 album.. another 3 tracks are Remixes that were available on the records.. and they remain the best ones on this album..

In the booklet you can read: "a collection of of the finest sultry/sexy dance music - the ultimate audio aphrodisiac" ..I wonder where the aphrodisiac has been.. Sorry, but Om should continue to release the "OM Lounge" and "Mushroom Jazz" -stuff, which are great, but let the Naked-People do the Naked Sounds !!!

5 out of 5 stars Remixalicious.......2001-09-26

It's hard to revise a classic. Nevertheless, that is exactly what has been done to 1998's "What's On Your Mind" (Om Records) that started the Naked Music phenomenon. "Reconstructed Soul" compiled tracks from the 1998 original as well as past and present deep house mixes. Om comes correct with some powerful production from Kaskade, King Kooba, and newcomer Gabriel Rene of Soulstice. Building off the success of his "What I Say", Kaskade's signature soulful melodies and punchy bumpin' bass lines intertwine with the powerful hook of "If I Fall" to add a breath of fresh air to any listener's ears. The King Kooba crew comes through on a robotic electro limbo freestly, chopping up the vocal and pumping it back amidst a driving broken beat. On the cd, the mood shifts from unreleased downtempo tracks like "3 AM" and "Live Today" to beautiful soulful house remixes by Naked Music man Miguel Migs (aka Petalpusher), Wamdue, and Joshua (aka IZ). A collection of the finest sexy dance music, "Reconstructed Soul" is the ultimate audio aphrodisiac!

5 out of 5 stars Fast Pace and Some Slow Pace.......2007-06-05

This is one CD that is old school. It Tastefulness of a good music to dance to. Back in the day of partying and a good time.Kick in the head is one and See the lady track with Heavy D. Just listen and you'll see when you get in the groove it will make U dance...................

3 out of 5 stars Interesting.......2007-05-24

Personally my favorite tracks on this album are U &I, Natalie, Playing Games,Right Now and I'll Never Hurt You Again. Al B Sure snapped off on the song U & I and it my favorite song on this whole CD.

4 out of 5 stars Very Underrated Release.......2006-12-31

While it doesn't stand up to "In Effect Mode", Al B.'s third release called "Sexy Verses," DOES have some very good tracks on it. I personally enjoyed nearly every track save the final one. I was in college when this release came out and I still rock to "Right Now" and "U & I" even today in my 30's. If those two aren't defining "baby making music", then I don't know what is!

"Natalie" is almost a love ode that is very good. "Kick In The Head" and "Turn You Out" were a bit ahead of its time. They would sound out of place today but I agree with another reviewer that for 1992, it was definitely in place. Again, I would say those two tracks were even AHEAD of that time period a bit! I also liked the remix of "Channel J" on this one as well renamed "See The Lady."

"Playing Games" was a heartbreaker and definitely a break up song while "I Would Die For U" is a devotional song so with those two he gives us the opposite ends of the spectrum for a relationship. The death of one but the devotion of another. I also liked "Thanks For The Great Time Last Night" but could've lived without the silly interlude prior to it.

As I said, the final track is the weakest on here but even that makes for "pass the time" music. Again, while it isn't the classic that "In Effect Mode" was, give it a chance. It'll be worth it.

5 out of 5 stars Sexy Versus Was A Masterpiece!! .......2006-10-20

This album is my all-time favorite release by Al B. Sure! It remains, well, underrated because he (or his record company) decided to release only TWO songs that weren't all that appealing TO THE GENERAL crowd. These were slow songs that sounded like anyone can just pass up. They were "Right Now" and "Natalie". To me, "Right Now" and "Natalie" are excellent but you really have to study every aspect of the two songs in order to like it the way I do. Some people may like it at first listen however. And that's pretty much why the album failed and remains discontinued. 1. the promotion of it, 2. only two songs were released instead of four, and 3. the songs they chose to release doesn't give a good impression to the mainstream crowd which was a big mistake in WARNER BROS. part. Instead, they should have released "Die For You", "Turn You Out", "I'll Never Hurt You Again", and "Ooh 4 You Girl". If this would have been done, I bet you anything that this album would have been as big as his first album release, "In Effect Mode". Also, the person below me that commented about the uptempo tracks being outdated for the time it was released is totally wrong. These tracks reflect the times in a big way. This was the music played in 1992. They are outdated NOW but they weren't outdated then. And actually, "Ooh 4 You Girl" (which is uptempo) would have been a chart topper if it would have been released. It tops any other New Jack Swing song i've ever heard. Al shows a side to him that's never been heard before with this track and to add, it sounds like he put alot of effort into just this one song. When I first heard this album, I immediately had favorites, one by one, as the cd progressed to the next track (which is something rare to see in a normal non-g-hit CD). "Kick In The Head" features Rakim and has a great message about love & relationships, "Turn You Out" has an awesome beat to it and was way ahead of it's time for quite some years in sound (contrary to what the guy said below me), "See The Lady" is basically a remix of B. Sure's previous album release single "Channel J". This one has a good beat to it as well. Lastly, Thanks 4 A Great Time is one awesome, creative, and original song. I would add this one to my list as the 5th single to be released if the company was gonna go for more to be released (which has happened in the past). The only thing I would change about this song would be that annoying carnival intro music in the beginning of the track. Other than that, it was excellent. And this is why I feel that this was his best work yet!

4 out of 5 stars Sexy Versus Had A Few Good Versus or Two.......2005-06-22

Al B. Sure delivered to us his final album in which had some moments but did not appeal to a lot of critics back in '92 when the changing of the guard was going away from the new jack swing movement into the g-funk movement. The album starts off promising with hits like "Right Now", "U&I", "Natalie". Then I can see where the album hits a snag with the uptempo songs that was kind of outdated for its time. Now Devante from Jodeci did produce some of the uptempo tracks along with Al B's cousin Kyle West & Howie Tee but it just was not appealing. Then the album gets back on track with my favorite song on the album "Die For You", this song is very underrated because if you really listen to message, it talks about loving your mate unconditionally that you would literally die for them, to me that is true love. Then the next track "I'll Never Hurt You Again" is another great slow jam that really talks about true love. The last track is ok but nothing to get excited. To me this is a poor-man's version of "Diary of a Mad Band" by Jodeci with dynamic slow jams but below to average up-tempo songs. This CD is still worth to take a chance on and you can buy very cheap at your local record store.

Man, this ain't no real strip club music! The only song on here that is worth the cd's price is K7's song, and that ain't even strip club music either! If you want to hear REAL strip club music, buy a DJ Boss Pimp or 2 Live Crew cd and call it a day.

As a mobile D.J., I've found the "Strip Jointz" series of compilations very helpful (my wife doesn't appreciate the cover art or the concept, but...). If you're a fan of R & B or rap music, these include some very hard to find selections all on one CD. I bought this one for "Baby Got Back" by Sir Mix A Lot, "Dazzey Dukes" by Duice and "Give It To Me Baby" by Rick James. Great to throw on as background at a party, too!

4 out of 5 stars What some market supply can do!.......2006-03-29

This cd is the reissue of the Delfonics 2nd album, as titled -1968. For many years, prior to this reissue on cd, Delfonics fans seeking to obtain a mint- copy of the original album searched the boxes at many a record show hunting, yet hardly finding! Interesting, that the rules of supply/demand surely apply. Due to ample supply at this time, the digitally remastered, crystal clear cd can enter a buyer's music collection at some very attractive prices. Whereas, the 38 year vintage lp, mint- condition, is of limited numbers, wherever they be worldwide, are collectible items....., and therefore command collectible prices. For this album Thom Bell was still at the helm as the group's arranger/producer. It would be great if a Philadelphia radio station, such as WDAS-FM, would invite one of the premier architects (and legend), of the "Philly Sound" in for an interview during one of it's old-school broadcasts, to secure, if the right questions are asked, what would be some of the most interesting information about the "Philly Sound" during the beginning, and height of it's glory years? As the Delfonics first, and greatest producer, regarding this album, it would be interesting to know what, and by whom, the decisions were made to mix this album with a larger percentage of non-original Delfonics tracks? William Hart's outstanding, and legendary high tenor, along with Bell's arranging expertise helped insure this follow-up lp to the 1967 debut album "La La Means I Love You" was going to sell strong in urban areas, East Coast if not nationwide. "Ready Or Not Here I Come", "Somebody Loves You", and the chased killer ballad "My New Love", which somehow seemed to escape the attention of early "greatest hits" cd releases, fuel this cd to must have status for Delfonics fans and sweet soul music collectors. At this time, regarding Delfonics albums, only the 1972 album "Tell Me This Is A Dream", has yet to see cd reissue daylight. To obtain it, the hunt for the vinyl is one's search. If a sweet soul music collector, this cd is a must in one's music collection. The Delfonics, need more be said?

5 out of 5 stars R&B at its best.......2001-06-16

This cd has the perfect title: "Sounds of Sexy Soul" With classic songs like 'you can't be loving him' and 'everytime I see my baby' WOW, you can't go wrong with this cd. I have mine, do you have yours? If you're a Delfonic junkie like me, you'll love this cd.

if u like r&b u need 2 have this one...its more talent than u will find in Usher ..if u like soul dont spend your money on 112 or dystany child:( ricky is old skool mixed with talent! this is lost soul. music that is great without the yelling of little john

5 out of 5 stars unknown but authentic.......2003-01-21

ricky is very very good .the problem is there is no promotion except on soultrain.
i don't know what happen to the money being made by these guys or maybe mca took it from them but i think there is some sort of plot to keep new edition out of the seen.every great original song released by these guys are locked out before popularity can get to them.
anyway rick my fella 'nuff strength',the black man will be free one day.
i hope you come out with another album or at least new edition.in a world like this where the music is so stale and some kids don't know what to buy n.e. has originality, something no new artist have right now everything is copied and the voices are imitating r.kelly or some new age crooner.you guys set the trends .

    4 out of 5 stars R.Bell: The unknown N.E. lead singer.......2001-12-31

When people think of the lead singers of New Edition, they think of Ralph Tresvant, Bobby Brown, and Johnny Gill. But Ricky Bell was the unknown one. Heproved his vocal ability when he led BellBivDeVoe to stardom. With hits like Poison and Do Me, Ricky showed us he had what it took. The song When Will I See You Smile Again, put Ricky amongst the elite. This solo project didn't getthe air play it should have. I loved it.The song Have Your cake and Eat it Too, is the best song on the album. This duet with fellow N.E. member Ronnie DeVoe, tells that women can play their man too. If you haven't picked it up, then run out and buy it.

    5 out of 5 stars ricky bell.......2001-08-25

ricky,s cd is so good that i want to lesten to it over again

5 out of 5 stars Ricky Bell shines.......2000-12-17

With "Ricardo Campana," Ricky Bell proves that he can hold his own. Once known as R&B's "best kept secret," Ricky stays close to his New Edition roots, singing "Struggle" with Johnny Gill and three songs with Ron DeVoe. Pretty much every song on the CD is loveable, especially the mid-tempo song "Sometimes." Other note-worthy songs include "My Body," "It's All About You," the ballad "Come Back" - which is somewhat reminiscent of Bell Biv DeVoe's "When Will I See You Smile Again" - and "Down 4 Life." "Sunday," featuring Ron DeVoe, is another great, happy song. His debut single, "Spanish Fly," is an excellent song, as well. While his career as a solo artist is promising, Ricky said on Soul Train that "Down 4 Life" shows that New Edition is still very much alive. Like all New Edition albums and solo albums, "Ricardo Campana" is destined to be a smash!!

Usually confined to the footnotes as the writer and originator of "The Twist," Ballard was in fact a key proto-rock & roller. His early-'50s hits like "Sexy Ways" and "Work with Me Annie" were not only so transparently libidinous that they made double-entendre into single- entendre, but were the very pinnacle of guitar-driven R&B. After several fallow years, Ballard returned in 1959 with "The Twist" followed by a string of wonderfully engaging R&B romps like "Finger Poppin' Time" and "Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go," and near-soul ballads like "Teardrops on Your Letter." He really only had one groove, but it was a very, very good one. --Colin Escott

5 out of 5 stars 1990 Rock and Roll Hall of Famer.......2004-11-25

They say Dick Clark once referred to a song by this artist as "another nasty Hank Ballard song". Even so Clark had Ernie Evans do a cover version of Hank's song, "The Twist" two years after Hank did it. (Clark's then-wife had Evans change his name to Chubby Checker (as in Fat(s) Domino, get it?) The rest is history. Hank Ballard was born John Kendricks (related to Eddie of the Temptations? Both were from Detroit). His group, the Midnighters, started out without Hank as the Royals and a couple of years later Hank replaced another lead singer. The group had been first discovered by Johnny Otis, another famous name in rock and roll history. At one time the Royals had members Levi Stubbs (who would front The Four Tops for about 50 years) and the legendary Jackie Wilson. While much black music had clear but subtle references to sex, Hank's "Work With Me Annie" and "Annie Had a Baby" were more blatant and were rarely played on the radio They had a number of more conventional hits back to back in the early 60s but faded after that. I saw Hank Ballard at a New Year's Eve party as the main attraction about 1976; his wife I heard had helped him reinvigorate his career. You'll find all of his best on this package which I recommend. I still remember the thrill of first hearing that opening guitar riff on "Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go". You'll enjoy this one. Hank Ballard passed away in 2003. He was 76.

5 out of 5 stars Great r&b group, with lot'd of blues feeling, and swing!.......2004-05-21

This music falls between 50's R&B, jump blues, and r&r. In any case the stores usuually keep his music in the blues section, and that may be the best description of this appealign msuic. This music can be danced to in jitterbig style, and can be lindy hopped to as well.

Ballard has a sassy, and smooth voice, that is very appealing, band features sax, and it swings, jumps and rocks pretty hard. Appealing backup and group vocals are also featued, byt Hank is always the main vocie and star.

A very appeling group and if you liek earlier groups like Jouis Jordan & His Tymphani 5, or Wynonnie Harris, you're sure to love what foloowed in the 50's, with Hank & The Midnighters. Those wh ohave an appreciation for rockabilyl, wil lalso enjoy this cd, or thsoe whp like to like in the 50's tetro lifestyle, an exellent cd that featured Ballards humor and bigegst hits, and includes all the "Annie" songs which were in some ways parodies to the "Roll With Me Henry" song covered by Etta James.

      GRAET CD!

      5 out of 5 stars Let's Go, Let's Go, Let's Go..........2003-09-01

Hank Ballard was one of the greats of the 50's R&B era. I saw him here in Denver, Colorado in 1985 at the Fairmont Hotel. I almost fainted when I saw him in the lobby - and when the show started, he was impeccably dressed in "all" white, right down to his socks! When you hear his music, you can't help but get up and do the "pony" or the twist" or do a slow drag to "Stay By My Side"...I was sad to hear of his death earlier this year. He is truly missed by me...

5 out of 5 stars RAW PERKY RTHYM AND BLUES AT ITS BEST!.......2003-07-22

IF HANK BALLARD DID NOT MAKE YOU WANT TO GET UP AND DANCE IN THE 50'S THAN I DON'T KNOW WHO COULD BESIDES LITTTLE RICHARD,JACKE WILSON, BILL HALEY AND JERRY LEE LEWIS! WAIT TO YOU HEAR THE ORIGINAL TWIST AND "THERE'S A THRILL UP ON THE HILL..LET'S GO, LET'S, LET'S GO".HANK BALLARD WAS VERY DARING WITH HIS LYRICS AND HIS MUSIC IS JUST OUT OF THIS WORLD.I REALLY LOVE THIS TERRIFIC ALBUM AND IT STILL MAKES ME WANT TO GET UP AND DANCE.HANK HAD HIS OWN STYLE AND DISTINCTIVE VOICE.THIS IS RTHYM AND BLUES IN THE RAW!THERE'S NOTHING BORING ABOUT HANK BALLARD BELIEVE YOU ME! BUY THIS C.D. AND YOU WON'T BE SORRY!!

4 out of 5 stars Essential for the R&B and oldies collector alike........2003-06-13

If you're thinking about getting a taste of some R&B vocal groups, this is an essential alblum. I can honestly listen to this one all the way through. I must admit I like the first half of the alblum a little better. Also, the very racy song 'Annie had a baby' is included here as well. There are plenty more hard rockers included as well. For the oldies buff, the ORIGINAL (and I think - better) "Twist" make this one worth picking up. The sound quality is really good too!
