5 out of 5 stars From 3 songs I practicly like this album.......2004-08-12

I don't own this album but when I heard 4 Elements,come correct,
and jump to live I was amazed. These songs were awesome!

4 out of 5 stars Up an Coming.......2001-03-17

Chronic Furture, as a band seems to have matured immensely with their album 4 Elements. Singer Mike Busse in particular brings energy and extraordinary vocals to this cd. The lyrics are all positive, not violent and still cool, which is fairly revolutionary in today's musical world. You have to give ups to anyone that can write such excellent words, put it with music that spread good vibes and is also rocking hard core, all at the same time. These boys have done it. I recommend this to anyone who listens to Rage Against the Machine and Limp Bizkit, but urge everyone to give it a try as Chronic Future defines themselves seperately from any other band out there. I am even more excited to see what they come up with in the future. After hearing this album you know these guys are only going up.

5 out of 5 stars My boys recorded a great cd!.......2001-02-04

Hey guys I'm friends with the guys in Chronic Future.Well not all of them, just Ben and Mike. These guys live out here by me and Arizona and I talk to them all the time and I im them on AOL and all that. This is a great cd and all should buy it and support the Chronic boys!

5 out of 5 stars Chronic Future is the future.......2000-11-28

The first time i heard "Come Correct" i was amazed! The band is freaking sweet. Every song on this CD simply rocks. If your are looking for a CD that you will never stop listening to buy this.

5 out of 5 stars Chronic Future Is Awsome.......2000-11-13

THey don't really sound like 311. There only one song on 4 Elements that sounds like 311. I loved the Chronic Future cd.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best CDs ever.......2005-05-19

This is hot stuff. On my top ten list ever since it came out. The 5 elements (alas without David Gilmore) in splendid form. And David Murray gives it just the little extra. One of the best versions of "Round Midnight" ever recorded. Dense, intense, and plenty of groove.

4 out of 5 stars blown away!.......2000-07-16

well what can i say, this CD is just... everything Coleman mixes is here his free form jazz-funk with his hiphop background, for our pleasure. particularly enjoyable on the 5th and 6th track, a definite getit album!

3 out of 5 stars better after repeated listenings.......2000-05-06

I didn't care for this cd at first, particuliarly the funk tinged bass and the final track, a mixing of rap and jazz which I found quite disappointing. However upon further listeing there is some interesting horn work going on here and much of the music is improvised. Also the guest appearance by David Murray is a definite plus. Overall, worth a listen.

3 out of 5 stars worth a listen.......2000-04-28

Hated this when I first heard it, primarily because the funky bass lines don't appeal to me. However upon subsequent listenings there is some interesting horn work going on here and David Murrays guest appearance is a definite plus. The band seems at ease and carefree improvising with integrity. Low point of album is the destable "Im Burnin UP(Fire Theme)" which is a hideous amalgamation of rap and jazz two generes that in my mind don't mix and should never mix. Overall worth a listen.

5 out of 5 stars Unflippingbelievable!.......2000-02-06

The mixed-meter final cut, with David Murray blowing the end off his horn and amazing rappers, is worth a million. Some of the best outside playing since the Sixties, but with uncanny discipline and energy. Drop what you're doing and buy a copy right now. You'll thank me!

5 out of 5 stars Elements of Love was the best.......2007-06-08

Every song on the cd is a must have!!!!

2 out of 5 stars Earth, wind and who?.......2007-01-05

I am not familiar with most of these songs. The quality of the recordings are very nice and professional, but I don't recognize but only two of the songs. Anyway, if you are looking for Earth, Wind & Fire's greatest hits, do yourself a favor: DO NOT CHOSE THIS ONE !!!

4 out of 5 stars EWF - A ggod collection if..........2006-11-03

Overall, you know what to expect from an EWF compilation. Overall, this is good and contains all the songs you would expect and a few that I had totally forgotten. If you already own the Greatest Hits CD you have most of the songs you are probably wanting to hear, but if you want to amass the definitive collection of EWF this is a good purchase.

4 out of 5 stars Great Recording, but not to my taste.......2005-06-09

I'd heard of Earth Wind & Fire but knew very little about them. But being struck with the "being in love" bug, I naturally have a proclivity for music that seems to address this illness. The title hooked me and I ordered it.

The quality of the vocals and of the musicians is superb across the board. That being said, it is mostly not to my taste so I am not qualified to provide a great review. There are a few tracks I really like. "I'll Write a Song for You" comes immediately to mind as does "Be Ever Wonderful". Those, in particularly, reached out to me. The others were well done but did not suit.

I am not at all unhappy about buying this one. Earth Wind & Fire fans should enjoy it especially.

5 out of 5 stars Excellence........2005-04-12

This is a product you'll enjoy from track 1 to the finish. The remastering has really put the icing on the cake. You will feel as if the Boys are doing Devotion or Be Ever Wonderful right in your living room. Phillip Bailey falsettoes are all over the tracks, Maurice White does his best neo-spiritualist, non denomination deacon, and McKay/Dunn/Verdine on rhythm instuments set this whole enterprise just right. Even Nasciemento's afro-Brasilian Rhyme Interlude is given a fresh hearing here. You won't find That's the Way (yow!) of the World, but you are gonna hear All About Love and an equally impressive Imagination here.(I really don't understand why folks prefer Reasons to Imagination, but they both are heard here.) With the summer season coming up, you know you're gonna need some great ol' school grooves to listen to on those lazy evenings reserved for deprogramming and chillin'. This is a perfect CD for doing just that.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome stuff..........2005-09-27

First, I love these guys. Have for ages now, back when they were playing live weekly at Hoy Como Ayer in Little Havana here in Miami. Then that gig ended, but, then they came back to it, so all is well and good again, though there is no shortage of places to catch them - and you'll find me at their Jazid shows as well...wherever they are weekly here in Miami, I/O, Fuacata, Jazid, etc, you'll find me, no questions.

Second...gotta call someone out. John Speck, the reviewer down below, he's one of these boys. Da*n fine 'bone player too. When he's not with these boys, he's layin' down his own with his outfit called Bacon Bits, but still, none the same, he's part of this group and I'm glad so. But, just wanted to put his review in perspective down below. Let's you know where it's comin' from a little better, and seein' how he didn't bother to tell you, I figured I'd point it out.

But, as for this release....lordy, lordy brother, I cannot say enough about it. I'll always, and I mean ALWAYS, be partial to their Fuacata Live cd, though NOTHING can capture the amazing show these guys put on, BUT...this cd is a close, very close second. And, it has, what has got to be, one of the finest songs EVER committed to cd..."La Vida Continua." Pase lo que pase, la vida continua." Claro, que si. Truer words have never been spoken/sung and, Tomas Diaz....muchos gracias para todo.

If you've got an ounce of soul in your body, get this. Brothers/sisters, if Azuquita were still as funked out as he was in 1975 con Jimmy Sabateur and added Miami bass with some of the most amazing self-made loops you can imagine, you might get just a taste of what you're looking at here. But, my words don't really do this justice. Just get it, thank me, and yourself, later.

5 out of 5 stars Latin Funksters Keep it Real.......2004-12-18

In this studio effort, the Spam Allstars develop upon their funky latin sound furthering their reputation for enjoyable listening that also can work for the dancefloor. Note the addition of flutist Mercedes Abal to the group and the sweet new take on her father's composition(titled here, "Campanario 64"). Also of note are the contributions by Latin Jazz legend Sammy Figueroa, and one of the founders of Irakere, Lazaro Alfonso. Vocalist and timbalero, Tomas Diaz further cements his reputation with his spirited interpretations.

4 out of 5 stars Best record from this unit.......2002-03-02

Steve Coleman has played in a lot of different formations, and this one, while not my personal favorite, is a super-strong batch of cats. They're his funkiest unit by far, and they bring a great flavor to his trademark odd-timed beats and quick swing. Coleman compositions are difficult to play (and not party records), but these guys make them sing and give us a very good jazz record with new ideas.

5 out of 5 stars Great Progressive Jazz Unit with deep roots.......2000-07-07

This is certainly one of the best jazz records I've heard in the past 10 years. This band just smokes through these rhythmically complex, odd metered songs with an incredible energy while remaining tempered with melody, nuance and soul. They never turn into a soullessly technical machine like so many bands intent on showing off their chops. Coleman is the most innovative and technically awesome saxophone player working in jazz today but he is also one of the best composers. And it goes without saying that he refuses to make the neo-traditinalist records everybody else is churning out.

This CD is an excellent introduction to Steve Coleman's musical brew. If you enjoy heavily percussive jazz with fun drumming; then this CD is for you. Gene Lake is outstanding as well as Steve, Reggie and everyone else. I recommend all of Steve's albums especially if you are a drummer, percussionist, or a contemporary progressive Jazz fan. Album Description

Sister Machine Gun was started in 1990 by Chris Randall. He made one record for Wax Trax!, three for Wax Trax!/TVT, and one for himself. They're all pretty good, if you like that sort of thing. All of his records would certainly go under the heading of "critically acclaimed", but other than that, it's hard to pin a style on the music, which sounds like a strange cross between The The, Nine Inch Nails, and the Rockit-era Herbie Hancock. We prefer to call it "neo-industrial-dada-funk", but you're free to call it whatever you like. Sister Machine Gun's fifth album, [R]evolution, is independent recording at it's finest - everything a band can be when it has full control over it's own destiny. Recorded over most of 1998, the record was released to the SMG fan club in April of 1999, and to the general public in May of 1999.

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars I Feel a Little Strange now, I Feel a Bit Insane..........2005-02-25

Sister Machine Gun has been making quality music for a while now, and has teetered in different directions while accomplishing a balanced set of albums. The refinement of their sound can be seen in the first three works; with Sins of the Flesh kicking out a great first effort, The Torture Technique taking the band to some great heights, and then Burn getting quite a bit of acclaim. Along the way the sound changed a bit, refining into a techno-blender of vocals, blues, and beats, and I have to say I liked it. Torture Technique and Burn had just about everything one could want, and they hooked me and made me a SMG fan for life. The fourth album, Metropolis, was good but didn't continue the upward trend I had gotten accustomed to, but I thought that [R]evolution fixed that trend.

On [R]evolution, Sister Machine Gun had quite a few songs worth mentioning herein but they hit a reviewing wall because they stepped back from some of the techno-elements they're known for. They still kept the electronics, sure, but this seemed to stray more into electronic-jazz than the former releases did. Randall has always provided that anyhow, but this era of SMG strayed more and more into jazz and blues - as the side-project Micronaut showcased.

Transient One (nice, slow beat with solid - somewhat muffled vocals), Got To Be (slow, with an angry heartbeat), Closer Than Me (heavily showcasing a LOT of Jazz elements), Strange (saxaphone!), and Wrong (piano and symbol driven) are all a lot slower than previous works have been leading up to, and that's good stuff. A lot of Randall's strongest work is when he does something with regard to hurting or wanting, and these songs showcase that art. I'm really fond of Wrong because it has a cold sense in such a nice looking wrapper, with proclamations of "I've known you all along" oozing out of the lyrics. I'm also fond of "Got to Be" because I like the way Randall sounds when he does songs of that nature, almost blueprints for his vocals, and I love the sound of Transient One for the same reasons. Still, all these songs take a backseat to Vibrator. If Randall does slower themes well, then he does sensual even better and this song is probably the best of the album with regard to that. Its sexy and somewhat sultry, proclaiming that he "wants you tonight."

On the other side of the spectrum, Smash Your Radio! is one of around three "driven" songs on the album, giving the angst it has freely while spitting the may of mainstream music. The message was entertaining too, and shows how Randall really didn't like his moments in the spotlight. "It's a revolution, brothers and sisters." It just wasn't the revolution a lot of people were expecting.

4 out of 5 stars Diverse music hits the spot.......2000-05-11

Chris Randell began to explore new and exciting sounds with the album BURN which was the first he produced on his own. With the next release he created a modern masterwork of pure rock and industrial dance grooves.

He has gone further into that groove on (R)Evolution. There are the standard rock heavy tunes like SMASH YOUR RADIO and CARBON COPY, but soon there after his interest in blues, jazz and even a little funk creep in and really begin to influence the music, and for the better I might add.

If you want music that stays in one very particular corner, never venturering to break its reigns then go elsewhere. But if you brave, soulful industrial rock, then SISTER MACHINE GUN is your ticket to ride.

3 out of 5 stars Loses steam part way through...........2000-03-19

Starts out exceptionally strong and slowly loses steam. After half the album you want to skip the rest. Certainly not as good as their previous CD Burn. Only worth the effort for the first 4 songs. "Carbon Copy Man" is a strong radio friendly hit and that is the only thing that will save this album from sale bins everywhere.

4 out of 5 stars Decent but not their best.......2000-01-22

A good collection of music from SMG. Mostly groovy stuff, but a bit tame for dancing. Sort of easy listening for techno fans. Metropolis and Burn are better, IMHO.

5 out of 5 stars A fine peice of work for Mr. Randall.......1999-10-05

As the other reviews put this album in it's place Chris Randall has created a great mix of Dance/techno, hard-industrial and 1 word TALENT with minimal cash outlay and a small independent label. Positron records I predict will have continued success. As this records indicates the labels potential.

        Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Jazz/rock fusion at its best.......2005-10-16

At a time when I was bored with much of what contemporary jazz had to offer, this album came along. It was the 'Find Of The Year' for me. Today Barcodes is seldom far from my CD player and as one of my all-time favourites, it sits on the shelf alongside albums by Pat Metheny, Mike Stern, Steely Dan and Weather Report. That's an appropriate place, for this album is deeply rooted in familiar territory: jazz melded with elements of funk, rock, blues and electronica. But unlike much so-called `fusion', Barcodes has a fresh, distinctive and eclectic style of its own.

This album - which marks the Synergy Quartet's debut - is a collection of intricate, tightly loping, flowing tunes that showcase some superb guitar playing and an excellent supporting rhythm section.

On first listen, the standout tunes for me were the edgy, hypnotic Emulator and the achingly beautiful Change of Plans. These tunes have Trey Gunn (King Crimson) and Jeff Coffin (sax player with Bela Fleck) guesting respectively.

These are still highlights but I've come to love the rest of the album just as much, if not more. Prowl's laid-back groove is a great album-opener while the delicately pretty Double Standards bubbles along with some particularly fine guitar and keys playing. But probably the best track is the powerful Tripod with its wonderfully dense polyrhythms that thunder towards the climax like a train. Fabulous!

Barcodes is a refreshingly original disc that will appeal to anyone looking for fresh new jazz with leanings towards funk and rock.

        5 out of 5 stars Refreshing!!.......2005-10-15

When I first heard Barcodes, I was taken back. The sound was so refreshing, the guitar playing of Mike Brannon was so innovative, I was hooked from the very first time.

Mike and his band is so talented, I felt myself drifting from song to song........

This is a real treat - a group of true muscians who value their craft - my heart is there!!

4 out of 5 stars modern, progressive, interesting, creative.......2005-10-14

I've been following Mike Brannon and Synergy for years now, and I gotta say that Barcodes is truly indicative of the kind of musical experience that you can have when everyone is turned on and thinking and really interested in making music. Trey Gunn's guest appearance is a delight; Darren Kuper got a nice write-up in Modern Drummer magazine when this came out. With sterling efforts from all the musicians involved, this one is one of those that will reward the sustained attention, but is also great just for turning on at a party or blasting in the car. Highly recommended for fans of progressive jazz.
