About the Artist
Hailing from West Philly's Milcreek Projects [46th Street] KAMAFLAJ, [Edward Beverley] has been living in Milcreek all his life, thus living the life of the projects. Growing up in the projects was hard, but he wasn't alone.
KAMAFLAJ emerged on the hip hop scene in 1988 along with his brother Shi and childhood friend Mr. Tittyman as 3 Da Hard Way. KAM dibbled and dabbled as a deejay and emcee, and they were three local kids working and dreaming of one day becoming the vehicles out of Milcreek Projects. Since those days, KAMAFLAJ along with Mr. Tittyman and other friends from da hood, formed a group called Da Un-X-Pected Clique and before long they began to sharpen their emcee skills.
Subsequently they opened up for artists such as Notorious B.I.G., Doug E. Fresh, Keith Murray, Mad Lion, WuTang and others. In 1996, KAMAFLAJ had the privilege of working with Neil Lavine, CEO of Penalty Records and his video distribution company Around the Globe Music. Mr. Lavine promoted and marketed his hit single, "Bring It On" featuring Terrorizm and Craze.
In 1998, KAMAFLAJ released the independent "Excess Force EP" which was promoted in the Philadelphia, Baltimore, and D.C. areas under Unruly Promotions. In 2002, KAMAFLAJ became a part of Raw Boyz International based in York, Pennsylvania. Recently Raw Boyz did two tracks for the soundtrack of the motion picture Bloody Streetz, which was written and produced by Gerald "Gee Bee" Barclay. Barclay also directed the music video "Feeling U/Street Life" featuring Grump for Gee Bee Production, as well as the "Bring It On" single.
KAMAFLAJ worked with AB-Liva from Major Figga Millionaires and Tommy Hill from Ram Squad on unreleased tracks. KAMAFLAJ has recently signed a record deal with Sowa Entertainment, an independent entertainment company based in New York City.
KAMAFLAJ is now preparing to release his upcoming album for the label. On his debut effort, KAMAFLAJ has enlisted top-notch producers such as Team PB, [producer for Freeway and State Property], and Leon Huff, Jr [aka Pop Tracks], son of Leon Huff, one half of the legendary Philly International hit-making team, Gamble and Huff.
