I found this CD by accident and am glad I did. It has become one of my top favorite CDs. We play it every week on Shabbat now. Anyone that knows and understands the Siddur should really appreciate this wonderful music. Some things are timeless and this music is one of them.

Like every R&B diva worth her salt, Chante Moore must have listened to those 22nd-century girls Destiny's Child while writing Exposed. Released in the latter half of 2000, Moore's fourth album has the ubiquitous stuttering rhythms, silky smooth vocals, and contemporary hip-hop soul grooves that are synonymous with She'kspere's protégés. This effort assures that she's back on the scene with some fresh and interesting material, a guest spot from Chi-town rapper Da Brat, and surprisingly subtle production from Jermaine Dupri. The common theme running through the tracks is the ever-popular one of relationships. Highlights include "Straight Up," the brilliantly catchy uptempo groove of "Everything We Want," and "Take Care of Me," featuring the aforementioned Da Brat. Moore professes to want to be all things to all people, but she lets herself down on the type of songs she was previously known for: saccharine-sweet lovers' soul. So where she excels as an urban bawl-out screamer, on this set, the ballads like "Bitter" and "Love's Still Alright" don't work so well. The sound is too commercial and overblown--almost as if she has an eye on others' (Mariah Carey's, perhaps?) chart success. Exposed isn't revolutionary by any means, but it does have some good moments. --Na'solo So'Fahed

3 out of 5 stars I'm at a Catch 22.......2007-06-03

I have mixed emotions about this release by one of my favorite female singers. For the most part it's not what you say but how you say it, but in this case, it's backwards. What I mean is I LOVE her voice!!!! Even earlier in her career, the smooth, softness of her singing (mainly from her first 2 releases) makes you wish that you had a woman at home that could sing to you the way that she does. Which leads me to this CD; I STILL LOVE her voice, but some of the songs don't do justice to her capabilities. How she sings is still a wonderful eargasm, but WHAT she sings just ain't what I'm used to hearing from her. Overall, the CD isn't bad.........but if you really want to hear Chante' at her best, grab "Precious" and/or "A Love Supreme".

5 out of 5 stars Chante is AMAZING!!!.......2007-04-14

Her voice hypnotizes. The sultry sound of her voice makes you forget every problem you may have. This is a replacement because my Chante collection mysteriously came up missing. Please check out her duets with Keith Washington (I Love You) and one with Kenny Latimore (When I say I do) actually got married off those two. Don't forget "I Cry to Myself" from This Moment is Mine CD.....priceless. The list goes on so I will spare you. Check her out!

3 out of 5 stars a little below average.......2006-11-10

Chante takes the mainstream route with this album, and it works half of the time. The other half leaves lacklsuter, repetitive and uncreative love ballads.

5 out of 5 stars Great music :-).......2006-04-06

I own all of Chantes cds. I got this quite a while back but I still love to listen to it because it's beautiful. The music is great and her voice is soft and soulful. She's a very underrated singer, but full of talent. I love Take Care Of Me, Better Than Making Love and Everything We Want. This is her fourth cd, and maybe it's not the best out of all she's done, but it's great nevertheless and well worth listening to. I find it really relaxing and great to chill to. If you are a fan of Chante's and don't already own this, then what are you waiting for - you'll love it.

3 out of 5 stars NOT HER BEST BUT SOLID........2005-10-09

I fell in love with Chante Moore after really listening to her second album which I think is a masterpiece. This album is solid even though there are one or two songs I would skip over. There are more good songs on this album than the bad one which makes this album decent. Chante's secret weapon? Her voice. Overall, EXPOSED is a good album but not her best.

4 out of 5 stars Under Exposed is right...but still a good cd.......2004-02-20

Acts 29 Under Exposed is a fitting name for this cd because you prob never heard of them in mainstream circles. The cd is a truly good one but not great.

There are no outstanding jams beside "Confessions" but the remaining songs are good and deal with issues like dating the unsaved, stealing and disappointing God. The cd is definately worth the purchase but its not one that you will blast in the car on your way home. It will however minister to you and I guess that is the most important thing.

Feel free to get it, it will compliment your collection

4 out of 5 stars A Christ-Core SLeeper.......2003-04-30

Acts 29 is an eclectic arrangement of Christcentric Hip-Hop designed to sooth your soul and make your head Knod. It definately fits the bill. Underexposed, as the title implies, is just that. More people should give it a lsten . . . you just may be pleasantly surprised.

4 out of 5 stars Melba Moore: a talented lady that deserves better.......2004-02-09

The recent theatrical film "The Fighting Temptations" features a stellar cast of R & B and gospel performers. One of these artists, long out of spotlight, is Melba Moore. Thankfully, her vocal skills are still intact and she equates herself spectacularly.

Moore came to prominence on the Broadway stage in the musicals "Hair" and "Purlie". In the 70's and 80's she also scored big as a solo artist with hits on the R & B and dance charts.

1990's "Soul Exposed" showcases the singer's versatility. From quiet storm tracks ("Crying in the Night", "Hold Me", "I Like Being in Love") to dance cuts ("Do You Really Want My Love," "Don't You Want to Be My Lover"), Moore is able to do it all.

Her rendition of "Stormy Weather" almost puts Lena Horne's original to shame.

The album's highlight (featured in both "short" and "long" versions) is, without a doubt, "Lift Every Voice and Sing", a star-studded rendering of the song regarded as "The Negro National Anthem". The fact that so many well-known singers combined their efforts with Moore on this recording indicates the importance of this song to one and all.

This selection, by itself, makes this album a necessity.

        Album Description

Jazz master, pianist and arranger Ted Howe rocks on his second release on Summit, swingin' the music of pop/rock icon Elton John with full aplomb into the jazz scene! Joined by jazz superstars Joe LaBarbera and John Patitucci, this disc delivers what Howe fans have learned to expect - the unexpected and the extraordinary. Ted Howe invents and uncovers Elton's jazz roots, from vintage favorites to obscure gems and contemporary classics. Originally hailing from Boston as a student of famed Berklee teacher Harry Smith, Howe eventually joined the Berklee faculty himself. He then went on to tour, conduct, arrange and play with some of the most famous names in show business, including Mel Torme, Bud Shank, Zoot Sims, Buddy DeFranco and Joe Williams, to name a few. Striding in as Fats Waller, then swinging with Nat King Cole-style block chords, Howe's "Bennie and the Jets" blasts from the past to any generation. As a cha-cha, you'll love "All the Girls Love Alice" too much to sit down, as subtle harmonic sophistication reinvents the story of "Alice". Elton's eloquent instrumental "Carla Etude" inspired Howe's jazz waltz treatment à la Bill Evans. Sink into John Patitucci's haunting arco bass and Joe LaBarbera's brushes and spice. Greasin' in from big band to blues, "Philadelphia Freedom" takes on a new identity. But, believe it, Elton devotees can still sing along! On "Border Patrol," Patitucci's exquisite upper register floats in a contemporary melodic presence...but gospel soon takes hold as this trio com-mu-ni-cates! Howe's translation of "Circle of Life": mambo! Vibrant, fast-moving and fiery, this is an exciting, virtuostic display of Latin percussion, expanding the "Circle" beyond the jungle. Sinatra missed "Blues Eyes"...but you won't, as Howe strides in again for a time travel back to the days of classic dark lounges for this romantic gem.

5 out of 5 stars Nice take on some newer pop tunes.......2006-02-21

Some tasty playing here. It's always interesting to hear a jazz performer work over some pop tunes. Howe does a good job here.

5 out of 5 stars Ted Howe Shines.......2005-10-25

Soulful, rhythmic, tight, familiar but unique. Ted shows that he has paid his dues and then some as a player, teacher, innovator, and arranger. While every song is ultimately engaging, Border Song shines with a pulsing driving force that wraps you up and carries you along. Cirlce of life suprises with its ablility to transform a powerful orchestration to a jazz trio and still have the same exhilarating affect. For those of you that don't know Ted or his music, this is a wonderful introduction. Highly recommended!
