There's not to much I can say about these guys that hasn't been said in the other reviews - these guys are loud, and along with the vocals makes it easily comparable to early Rollins Band (which is a good thing). Dare I even say you can hear hints of Black Sabbath as well?

They also do nothing to change their method of attack. Their songs show no secrets of where they're going, there's nothing lightning fast, no "cookie monster" vocals, no solos, you get the point. Think of steamroller that's slowly crushing everything.

Okay .. you get the idea.

This record is well worth checking out if your fan of heavy music.

Unfortunately, because this isn't on a larger label, it'll be ovrlooked by many. That's a shame, because this LP rocks.

I'm a big fan of any project that Shawn Brown--the singer of Jesuseater--is involved in. I've got the Dag Nasty 1985-86 original studio demos that feature him on vox (far more heavy and powerful than anything else Dag Nasty ever did), the Swiz "No Punches Pulled" complete discography CD out on Jade Tree, the Fury CD EP also on Jade Tree, and the Sweetbelly Freakdown CD LP that came out in 1997. I was pleased to learn that Brown was involved in another band, even though I found out about them--Jesuseater, that is--only after they'd broken up.

Jesuseater (whose name I don't particularly care for, as with every other band that Brown has been involved with) play powerful, rocking ... well, what is this? Rock n' roll? Hardcore? Imagine BLACK FLAG, DEADGUY, and even some pre-"In the Meantime" HELMET thrown into a blender. Pure old school Amphetamine Reptile label stuff, perhaps, but with an even fatter sound. Think heavy groove, as opposed to fast drumming. The levels on the guitars are cranked all the way up, and the drums sound full and robust, like a herd of mastodons charging around you, making the ground shake and rumble. While Brown's former band SWIZ experimented with faster tempos characteristic of late 80's NYHC, Jesuseater trade in speed for solid, powerful grooves. Did I mention HELMET? heck, did I mention an occassional BLACK SABBATH influence spotted here and there? Hell yeah.

Brown's vox have often been compared to Rollins's vocals. Apt comparison, I think. If you like Rollins Band or any of the others I mentioned, check these guys out. You won't be disappointed. DC hardcore completists should also get this.

Jesuseater's Step Inside My Death Ray! is like a refreshing brick to the head. It delivers uncompromising and raw hard rock, but with almost subliminal hooks and melody that'll keep you listening long after you leave the pit.

Vocalist Shawn Brown (Swiz & Dag Nasty) bellows every word as if it's his last. While the rest of the band grinds out a style of hard rock that nearly defies definition because of its seeming simplicity. It's not rap/rock. It's not alternative rock. It's not neo-post-progressive rock. It's simply guitar, bass, and drums played the way God intended: Loud!
