George Clinton's Funkadelic went through many changes over the years, and though the group's name is here, neither the personnel nor the music has much in common with earlier incarnations. That said, there is some fantastic playing here. Newer members--Blackbyrd McKnight, Ron Ford, and Ron Dunbar among them--keep the energy level high and shift the music into heavy funk. Clinton pal and influence Sly Stone takes a few turns at the mike, and Eddie Hazel proves there was no guitar player better equipped to match wits with Clinton. The lyrics are sublimely surreal, and the band's musical quotes (including "She Loves You") are dexterous and right on the money. --Rob O'Connor --This text refers to a previous edition of this title.

This is the last of the original "Funkadelic" albums. It was released during the fall of the P-Funk army. Lawsuits, band members leaving.George fighting with record companies. It was a total mess at this time. P-FUnk was wearing thin at this time, so this did not get any airplay hardly. I think the masses really missed a great album. If you see the liner notes, there were so many musicians and vocalists at the time. The title cut has only 2 musicians. Walter "Junie" Morrison plays everything execpt the intense guitar lead which was done by Micheal Hampton. Electro Cuties is a tight jam. Shockwaves is great. The whole album is off the hook. "Icka Prick" was actually a stab @ the record company. The fighting was over the album cover. SOme women's right movement raised hell about it, but my question was...what about all of the other Funkadelic album covers? The lady on the back of the cover name is "Sleeza" or something like that. FOrget the album cover. IT's a great album. I recommend to get this. This was the last of the orignal "Funkadelic" albums. Parliament's "Trombipulation" was out at the time which also did not do so well. Casablanca sold to Polygram. Poor George. No contracts. He did have his own record company "Uncle Jam' Records. Zapps "More Bounce To The Ounce" was actually the hottest thing at that time. "Sweatband" did no do too well with "Freak 2 Freak"...............

'The heavily latin "Brattino's Bounce" sounds .....'? Hey, brotha, that was pure African beats with African drums. I can also hear the sounds of the Nigerian armpit drums.

back in 81 this was a double album which included atomic dog but was reduced to a one record set because of issues clinton was hAVING WITH warner brothers still this is a good cd mike hampton shines on every song here and this predates the whole techno, punk rock new wave scene in the 80's.
What A Career Closer!.......2003-07-23
After some recent clinkers,Funkadelic reemmerge as a
creative force here on "Electric Spanking".The tital track is
a funky rock triumph-enough to make Hendrix proud."Electro Cuties" is showcases the bands tightest funk.Part one of the
double attack "Funk Gets Stronger" is a genre beding noise-fest
of funk,rock and latin beats,lyrics and guitar pyrotechnics while
the Sly Stone-whipped second part focuses more attention on the

dive into P-Funk-reggae,"Oh,I" is the only song here with any
"radio-friendly" possibilities while the filthy "Icka Prick"

overall context.A richer,varried and far better produced way to
get into this particular generation of Funkadelic.
Great Underrated P.Funk CD.......2002-10-29
I am speaking as a true funkateer when I say that this CD is awesome. When "Uncle Jam" was released, people thought that Funkadelic had replaced the blaring guitars of earlier works with layers of synth noises. But when "Electric Spaking" came out, it pretty much mixed the two together, and the result was one insane piece of great music. Do not listen to the negative reviews of this CD on the unremastered 'Electric Spanking' page...if you're a big P.Funk fan and you're hesitating to get this CD because you've heard that it's 'not as good as the earlier P.Funk thangs' or 'the 79-81 P.Funk CDs [weren't good]', take some advice from a real funkateer: BUY THIS ALBUM NOW!

For Your Collection--No Doubt.......2006-09-06
I purchased this on vinyl when it was two years old and being the PFunk fan that I am, I called every record distributer that I could find that would have this album as it went out of print shortly after it was released in 1981. I found it in NYC for $14.00 which was alot of money when albums were selling for $6.00. Anyways, I opened it, played it and said What the *&^%^* is this? I have listened again over the years to the album and it has not grown on me except for "Oh,I". I like the Parliament version better you need to check out Rodney "Skeet" Curtis. Very Nasty on the Bass Guitar. He added flavor to a sinking Mothership. Although I did not care for this album much, "Oh, I " is what kept me listening. I would not trade my album for all the Funk in the world--It's Still Funkadelic!
Funkadelic's last but not least album.......2006-01-24
The group had still lots of creative energy left when they made their last album. On the long run two non-funk-tracks from B-side, "Shockwaves" and "Oh, I", get tiresome but the rest of the album is superb. The album is very carefully produced with lots of nice musical ideas here and there. Also riffs are well composed. I especially like those riffs from second track, that end with a sharp piano chord. I have always considered this as an essential funk album.

Anyone who doesn't like this album is slow or lacks a sense of originality.This was a very original cd with a little bit of everything on it.My favorites include funk gets stronger 1 and 2
and the title track.The influence of this album is heard (especially the horns and drumline of funk gets stronger)in a lot of rap music.If you have any taste or sense of originality
buy this album.
Funkadelic's swan song...........2002-12-24
When this album first came out (in 1981) I couldn't wait to get it home and play it. Funkadelic's previous LP, 'Uncle Jam Wants You', was okay, but it was more of an advertisement for George's Uncle Jam Records. I figured that this would be a proper Funkadelic album. Needless to say, I was disappointed. Yes, this was a proper Funkadelic album, so to speak, but....it just wasn't the same. The title cut, with it's weird spoken intro, was very good. The next song, "Electro-Cuties", I dunno...at first I thought it was extremely stupid. I've listened to it recently, and I've reconsidered my judgement of it. While it doesn't rate with any previous Funkadelic songs, it isn't as bad as I first thought. "Funk Gets Stronger" is a good, mellow Funk song. "Brettino's Bounce" is alright, reminds me of the old "Kidd Funkadelic" song. "Funk Gets Stronger (Killa Millameter
Version)" was great. Good to hear ol' Sly in action. I don't know why the "She Loves You" snippet was in there. Maybe it was a tribute to John Lennon who died while this LP was being recorded. I can't stand "Shockwaves"! The music was cool, but the lyrics were kinda trite, especially the corny references to soap operas. "Oh, I" was good. I heard that "Oh, I" was originally supposed to be a Parliament song. The very best song of the album was saved for last: "Icka-Prick". Now this was a good ol' Funkadelic song: Weird, Funky, and Nasty! The problem with this album was that there were too many new faces on the scene. Too many unknowns were writing the songs. This album doesn't come remotely close to any of the previous albums (with the possible exception of 'Uncle Jam Wants You', which is still a better album). Buy this album only to complete your Funkadelic collection.

the last funkadelic p fans like myself werte disappointed not a good cd like previous funkadelic eddie hazel is featured on it i wish he could have gave us a swan song maggot-style michael hampton's playing is okay. oh yeah features sly stone,and zapp frontman roger troutman, who left the mob soon afterwards, not recognizable like other p-funk classics but no true p collector is funked up without it.there are few quality cuts on here that shed some light.
