Overall, this is a very nice effort. Her vocals are unique and very strong. I love the incorporation of many sounds, including jazz, into R&B/hip hop. I really respect Lina for that and she was one of the, if not the first, to do it.

There are still a few flaws. One or two of the songs sound very similar and her raps are a little irritating since they are on the majority of the tracklisting. The profanity here really is a minus, but I have the clean version. Despite those little complaints, I would definitely recommend you buying this, especially at this cheap price.

(By the way, in the UK she released this album with a very different tracklisting and a different cover. Buy this one. It is much cheaper and the tracks that were left off here but were put on the UK version aren't very exciting.)

This CD is sexy. I can't believe I haven't heard about her more. I discovered her from the movie High Crimes and loved the music she sang. There is not a song on it I don't like. This is also great dinner music for a romantic evening or with friends.

TRAX 2, 3, 4, 5 AND 6....SO DOPE!

The selection of instruments she uses (especially in 3) makes the album so distinctive.

The album is more (in my opinion)..sultry (most kutz) than "INNER BEAUTY MOVEMENT'...my favorite of the two...which is still all good.

The way she combined different ingredients of music--(hip-hop beats, a small amount of rap, and that 1930's radio-only sound)...is amazing becuz it all fits perfectly. GENIUS.

Although there is a bit of profanity in the one I purchased...it is very limited...and tolerable.

I think my CD has a blank spot on track 3 becuz when the sun iz shining and I put my top down---dat beat makes me wanna ride all night long.

Look--LOL...summa' yall might not be old enuff for her musik style yet...cause she iz bringin' it...and I mean HARD.

No "drop it like it's hot"...and the infamous (not yet written) "can I lick yo' gold-teeth daddy..."

Just straight-up, good 'A' (you know what I'm talkin' bout grown folks)...MUSIC....

Ahhhhh...Life is finally getting back to normal.

I am new to Lina but not to Neo Soul. she reminds me so much of Billie Holiday (One of her listed influences). I plan to add her other releases to the collection.

I love UNIQUE artists and artists who are not afraid to take RISKS. LINA came out with her first CD and I fell in love... the r&bish, swingish, neosoulish, and hiphopish mix she has going on is truly admirable. I really honestly believe she is not getting 1/10th of the credit she deserves. Her voice is beautiful and I was so thrilled when her song played at the beginning of the move High Crimes. She is exceptionally talented and if u only have the 2nd CD u MUST buy the first or you are missing a unique treat!

Step Up, I'm Not The Enemy, Waiting and Stranger On Earth are, in my opinion, 5 star tracks. It's all fine stuff and I sure do recommend it. My hope is that Lina will record an album of standards using her great sense of jazz and swing so evident on this CD.

lina finds inspiration in the music of 1920s-an era that has been pillaged only peripherally by angst-ridden chanteuse fiona apple, in recent memory-but does not hesitate to reach forward in time to take advantage of more recent musical innovations, such as rap, hip-hop, r&b and soul. musically, the 1920s influence makes its presence known in the form of increased use of live instrumentation-especially clarinets, piano and drum-as well as the occasional acquiescence of bass to treble. though echoes has rightly proclaimed "...this record has to be heard to be believed," one might be able to create an abstract impression of lina's style by mentally combined eve, monifah and vanessa willams into one chanteuse and then placing her in a german cabaret circa 1927.

An amazing debut........2001-06-14

This debut album by up and coming talent Lina first made me think of Billie Holiday brought to the 21st century. It's clear that influences on this album include singers like Dinah Washington and Sarah Vaughan aswell as Billie Holiday, and Lina's perfect intigration of contemporary R&B/hip-hop with stylish touches of operatic vocal and 20's/30's jazzy swing and sophistication makes this album one of my personal 'chill-out' favourites.

I love this CD because it's so different than other R&B artists (She raps too!). If you love this CD but want remixes, don't worry, it has bonus remixes at the end of CD ([what's bad] is that they really are hidden & you have to wait about 2min. after Stranger on Earth (last song) for it to play (ft. a It's alright remix & another unnamed bonus track!

I was in Tower records one day not really looking for any cd in particular just passing time before a movie. I was intrigued by the cover purchased the cd and my life has never been the same. I went back to purchased another one...because i was afraid to take it out of my car cd changer,I didn't want to forget and leave it in the house and vice versa. This album "Stranger on Earth" is hands down the most incredible album I have ever heard. It's everything good music should be, she's beautiful and her voice is beautiful, great lyrics! great music! It's too good to be true! It's a life changer she's gonna be big!!!!

Lina's new album "Stranger on Earth" is one of the best albums I have heard in a long time. She mixes classic jazz with modern hip-hop beats resulting in a sound that isn't like anything else out there. It's too bad that she isn't big in the US yet becasue she has an beautiful voice and really unique new sound. Buy "Stranger on Earth" and hear her for yourself!

I bought this one not realizing she had re-recorded some of her earlier works with her raspy, current voice! Big letdown personally as I was interested in her earlier recordings and far less interested in her later stuff so much! Do yourself a favor and listen to the sound bytes if they are available and purchase one series or the other as a fan/potential fan of Faithful. She's two completely different singers here.

As the title suggests, this CD provides the perfect introduction to Marianne Faithfull. By no means a definitive anthology, this album nonethless provides the listener with a collection of both her 1960's and more recent material. Also recommended for the established fan as this is the first time both era's have been incorporated onto one cd. Buy it you won't regret it!
