Evidence that one can make a musical about anything, Exhibit A: 1776. As one might expect, the whole concept of making a musical about the creation and signing of the Declaration of Independence was greeted in the late 1960s with, well, ridicule. The show debuted on Broadway in 1969, and three years later, when its run finally ended, it was its producers who had the last laugh. In addition, it toured for an additional two years and beat out Hair (in 1969 yet!) for a Tony Award. This recording, with the original Broadway cast, includes many of the same actors who went on to star in the film, the version with which most audiences today are probably familiar. One notable exception is Rex Everhart, who replaced Howard da Silva at some performances and on this recording. But there's still William Daniels as Jo

world. Even ZORBA and PROMISES PROMISES - both candidates for the award in the same year - have songs that are still remembered. 1776 may wake up patriotic feelings to American listeners which is quite understandable but the music and songs are old-fashioned, overrated and awfully boring.
Brilliant, Definitive and Remarkably Accurate!.......2005-12-18
1776 has become an institution, thanks to the motion picture which was made of this original Broadway show, and which starred most of the cast from the theatrical production. It gets rerun every July 4th week on some movie channel or local station!
William Daniels IS John Adams to many people, and even though the story of the birth of the United States probably wasn't this lyrical and lively, Composer Sherman Edwards was historically accurate in the facts of the tale.
In addition to learning about the signing of the Declaration of Independence, this is also love story... in fact two love stories, with John Adams and his wife Abigail, separated by circumstance and interacting only in his mind, and Thomas Jefferson and his wife, Martha, here, played by the big throated (and now legendary) Betty Buckley.
There is also a sense of fraternity, with the members of the Continental Congress grappling with the concept of breaking away from a tyranical ruler. And even though you know the outcome, the story is still filled with tension and excitement in the mechanics of it. Just how DID this country get formed?
The disc's liner notes explain the show's libretto and give you some rare behind-the-scenes info about the creation of the musical, the challenges it faced before becoming the standard that it now is, and a bit about the amazing Mr. Edwards, which is a story worthy of being told as well.
It's an Independence Day must!
Saw this on Broadway .......2005-11-12
Saw this show, with original cast, on Broadway in '69 and it has stayed with me ever since then. Every time I listen to these songs, I laugh. The historical figures (done with some tongue-in-cheek) are highly entertaining and even better if you see the movie. I would recommend the dvd for a great, lighthearted evening, and good family entertainment. You can't miss with this one! A winner on all fronts.

Excellent transaction. Would not hesitate to buy again from this seller. Product was delivered promptly and as described.
good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27
We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.

Classic Blues Rock Album.......2007-01-11
Quiet an assortment of tunes on this one. I call it the versatile album because the band delves into the classical music a bit then grinds out some heavy guitar, rhythms, in other portions of the album. It's kinda like a roller coaster ride sometimes you catch your breathe then your adrenaline revs up.

When the departures of original frontman Peter Gabriel and guitarist Steve Hackett left Genesis a studio trio of Phil Collins, Tony Banks, and Mike Rutherford, few could have expected the band to climb to greater levels of commercial success. But that's exactly what happened, and Genesis' left-field rebirth as a unlikely pop act began with this album, which introduced the newly slimmed-down lineup. But that's not the whole story. While the haunting love song "Follow You, Follow Me" introduced the band to the singles charts, elsewhere the group's penchant for accessibly complex composition and evocative lyrical dramas is in force on tracks like "Deep in the Motherlode," "Burning Rope," "Down and Out," and "Ballad of Big." --Scott Schinder
Customer Reviews:
A turning point for the Group.......2007-07-14
Well it came down to this one, which was essentially a sink or swim for the remaining trio. I love this one. It seems to me that the trio set out to prove a point- that they could make a quality album and boy, they did just that. I think this is very strong and certainly on a par with Duke. The tracks , the production - it all came together for them. An absolute deleight to listen to. Rutherford rises to the challenge and shines on the guitar(ala Deep in the motherlode is brilliant let alone the other tracks).Banks performs to his usual excellent standard(Undertow, Burning rope, Many to Many, The lady lies.)To say that Banks and Rutherford dominate the album is incredibly ignorant.Collins cowrote a few tracks and participated significantly in the others.Oh yes ,for students of fine drumming, listen in to how its done.
The guys rose to the challenge and put together a gem with this one and never looked back-to bad it is often overshadowed by Duke.
Mr Phil Collins.......2007-05-26
what do you say about the band!there just a great "rock & roll band" there words & music say it all...........
they were three and they sounded great.......2007-05-15
Anyone who liked "Wind and Wuthering" would enjoy this album, it's as good as any of the previous post-Gabriel era releases.
A Very Good Album.......2007-04-19
And Then There Were Three is, as the title suggests, the first album made by Genesis after they were cut down to a three-peice. It is evident that they had not yet quite decided what direction they were going to in the album, but at the same time there are a number of good songs.
Tony and Mike each wrote about half of the album, Phil only helping on a couple of the songs. Both Tony and Mike wrote some very good songs and some just okay songs. For me, the highlights of this album are "Undertow", the instrumental section of "Burning Rope", "Deep in the Motherlode", "The Lady Lies", and finally "Follow You, Follow Me", that last song being the band's first big pop hit. It is a beautiful song-the best love song they ever wrote.
Though this album wasn't as good as it's amazing predescessor Wind & Wuthering, nor as good as its successor Duke, it is still a very good album and it is a worthy addittion to any collection of good music, an essential for Genesis fans.
Genesis - I Still Enjoy This One.......2007-04-09
"And Then There Were Three" marked a major transition point for Genesis. Steve Hackett was gone and the band were down to just three original members, Phil Collins, Mike Rutherford, and Tony Banks. The result of this would find the band moving in a more commercial direction and somewhat away from their prog rock roots. The majority of the material on "Three" is shorter with the longest track clocking in at slightly over 7 minutes. Most of the rest of the songs reside in the 3 to 4 minute range. The album was also the first to find the band breaking into the top 40 singles charts in the U.S. with the album closer "Follow You Follow Me". Mike Rutherford took over the guitar duties from Steve Hackett. While Mike is a competent guitarist he is not in the same league with Hackett which somewhat diminishes from the music here. This is somewhat made up for by Tony Banks wall of keyboards, and Phil Collins outstanding drumming. This album gets slogged by a lot of Genesis fans as a "sell out" bowing to t

Jim (Atlanta).......2007-08-01
This album captures the essence of Tracy Lawrence. Long out of country limelight, we oft forget that he was one of the big stars of the early 90s with over 20 number #1 hits. Paint me a Birmingham and Alibi are two of the true classics in country music ... the other songs on this album are a great compilation of his hits and remind us of this singer's incredible voice and magnatism. If you've never heard of Tracy Lawrence or if you've put him on the backburner due to his absence the last 10 years, this album will turn you into an avid fan! His recent hit "Find out who your friends are" gives me hope that he's back for good. Lets keep our fingers crossed.

What can be said about this album? It is WONDERFUL!!!!! I've been a fan of his for 16 years and will be one for many more years to come. His songs are great and his live shows are FANTASTIC!!! He makes you feel like a friend during his shows. His music is terrific!!!!!!!
This CD is the Best!!!.......2007-03-11
Six months ago I didn't even know who Tracy Lawrence was, and I kept hearing one of his songs on the radio and finally through much effort searched him out and bought this CD. It is my favorite! I have listened to it to and from work every day since I bought it (four months ago). I love all of the songs.

From someone who despises American musical theater.......2007-06-04
Okay... wow.
In the Brent Spiner Fangirl Legal Contract, it specifies that said fangirl must purchase any and all vocal recordings containing said Brent Spiner (and that she will not, in any way or at any time, mention how much he sounds like Judy Garland on steroids). Which is why I purchased this CD.
He... ripped... into... this... part. That's the only way I can put it. I was floored from start to finish.
The work, as a whole, is something of a consuming thing. Be prepared to sit in silence for a few minutes after you're done with this one, because after hearing the whole thing, silence will be the only followup that does it justice.
A Mans Show.......2006-07-24
For anyone looking for male songs, or a male show to put on, this is the soundtrack for you. It has great ballads as well as big chorus numbers for the male sex. However the subject matter just didnt grab me by the throat and make me love it. History isnt my thing. That being said, the music and lyrics are great, and worth the money. This is a good one to get if your interested in broadway, but not the Rodgers and Hamerstein style. My favorite songs are "Molasses to Rum" and "Momma Look Sharp."
Who knew Mr. Data had it in him?.......2006-07-05
I saw this musical in NYC and have never been so moved by a Broadway show before. Brent Spiner has a lovely yet commanding voice that makes the hair stand up on the back of your neck in parts - you so believe in the rightness of his convictions as Adams. All the performances are first rate, but Spiner really shines.
The argument can be made that this musical was "of its time" meaning the 1960's, but I think the songs still hold up as they entertain as well as educate us. Much of the lyrics and dialogue are authentic.
Highly recommended.
I Love It!.......2006-02-27
The soundtrack will make you laugh, cry and sing along. You'll have goosebumps as you hear the songs of the men and women involved in the creation of our country.
SURPRISINGLY TERRIFIC.......2006-02-23
As a PURIST fan of ORIGINAL musicals, and not one who enjoys all the revivals (which indicates a lack of current writers...no surprise), I was AMAZED at how GOOD this revival is on recording. I am sorry I missed the show in New York.

ngs that have been brought together in this great CD. A purchase wouldn't be a waste of money by any stretch of the imagination it's really worth every penny. (or cent as the case may be)
I`m listening to it now!.......2005-05-27 I listen to this soundtrack all the time. Everyone loves it as you can see. I mean who can`t? It`s a great soundtrack. Possibly the best? Who knows? I find it great and if you listen to the samples or buy the cd I bet you`ll love. If you don`t just click no under the helpful review thing, but I bet you anything that everyone will find this helpful. I love the movie and the songs in it so I bought the cd, well my mom did and I am so thankful for it. If you like the movie you need to listen to this. It`s what you need to do. If you like the samples or the cd you must see the movie. It`s PG-13 because of sexual reffrences, laungue, and audult themes. You should be at least 9 to see it. I saw it well when I was ten and it was a little over my head as my mom calls it. Anyway I`m not here to talk about the movie, I`m here to talk about the soundtrack that rocks. Like I said earlier this is a soundtrack you will love and listen to all the time.
Thank`s for your time,
Vicki
This music has a place in my heart.......2005-02-27 I liked the movie, but I really love this soundtrack. It's what I put on when I'm tired of being an adult. The Archies, The Jackson Five, Stevie Wonder... they were all a part of my childhood... back when I took my allowance to Woolworth's every week and to buy a 45. If you remember those days fondly, you'll love this album. It's full of bubblegum favorites that still bring a smile to my face.
buy it! buy it!..........2004-11-19 this movie changed my life! it was like me and my friends when i was younger. and when i found the soundtrack i always listen to it. its like im in the movie. this soundtrack is the best! it has all the great songs from the late 60's early 70's, please buy this soundtrack believe me it will not diapoint you!

Customer Reviews:
Rogers song My Land is Kenya.......2007-06-02 I saw a live Roger Wittaker on tv a few years ago and they played the song "My Land is Kenya". I have all of Roger Whittakers music, but I was never able to find this song on any album or CD until now. If you love Roger Whittakers music then you must hear this song. I found it on a DVD tape at a garage sale last year and the tape was "Roger Whittaker in Kenya" made by Sony. A video of Kenya plays while Roger sings this song. It with out a doubt is one of the most moving things he has ever done not to mention the beauty of the song. Treat yourself to something special. John Garner Roseville, Ca.
Long time ago.......2006-11-07 I'm so glad with this CD of Roger Whittaker. It containts most of the songs I loved so much in the '70-'80. A wonderful warm voice, beautiful songs, a dream of a CD !
Great overview of Roger's career.......2005-05-26 Born in Kenya of English parents in 1936, Roger spent his childhood in Kenya before moving to South Africa in 1956, later moving to Britain in 1959. He didn't originally plan a musical career but gradually drifted into one, or so it seems. Success was slow to come Roger's first significant success came in 1967 with Mexican whistler, which was a huge hit in several European countries but failed to chart in Britain. His popularity spread to Australia and Canada before he finally had a top twenty UK hit with Durham town at the end of 1969. In the following year, Roger made the UK top ten with I don't believe in if anymore. A UK top twenty hit, New world in the morning, came later that year. Two minor hits (Why, Mammy blue) followed in 1971, after which the hits dried up - for a while.
In 1975, Roger had his most successful hit when Last farewell made number two in the UK and also made the top twenty in America. Elvis Presley later covered the song. Despite making further excellent records such as River lady and First hello last goodbye, Roger again disappeared from the British charts. He returned just once more, when a duet with Des O'Connor (Skye boat song) just made the UK top ten in 1986.
Seven UK hits hardly does justice to Roger's illustrious career, in which he has sold many millions of albums around the world, but this collection contains all those songs, plus the others I've mentioned and some other great songs including two new ones specially recorded for this compilation, which provides a great introduction to Roger's music.
Remakes Remakes.......2005-05-11 I am disappointed with this album, because though I thought it was a re-mastered version of his original hits, my four favorite songs - Last Farewell, Durham Town, I Don't Believe In IF Anymore, and Mon Pays Bleu are all inferior remakes.
Greatest Hits and Then Some.......2005-01-17 If you are a true RW fan, you will love this album; not only because all his greatest charting hits are present, but because a few gems from hard-to-find recordings have made their way onto the album. Sure, all the best are here: "Durham Town," "Mammy Blue," "New World in the Morning," etc., but the strength of the album lies in the pleasant surprise tracks: "I'm Back," a selection from the 1970s Kenya concept album that doubles as an announcement that Roger's short-lived retirement is over; "The Other Side," a complex and moving song about death and heaven that Roger wrote after his father was murdered; and "The Best I Can," from his "Celebration" album, written for Roger's 30th year in the music business. This album contains a generous 22 tracks, the final two tracks being two of the best cuts from his newest album, "Moments in My Life." "Jenny" is a catchy tune that I can't stop singing and is a translation of the German version, while "Feather On The Wind" is the story of a man whose feet are made to roam. This album truly spans the years, and is a great addition to anyone with an RW collection.

his barking being the most common) was all over the album, and were starting to get a little old. So this whole album was very similar of his frist two albums, in which both dropped a year earlier.
When he dropped "What's My Name" as the lead single, I believed fans were anticipating a rowdy and loud DMX, that they were used to hearing. The fact is that they did get what they were looking for. The problem was, that it was all stale and unappealing, as well as the production. Most of the problems existed in the beginning of the CD, mainly with "One More Road To Cross" & "Fame". The dissapointments go further down in the CD with more skippable tracks, even with the bonus track where X and a female name Dyme tag-team verses full of sex talk on the song "Good Girls and Bad Guys".
But this CD isn't all bad though. Aside from it's lead single there were some good tracks. "X Is Commin' For Ya" is a dope track. Before it became overrated, "Party Up" was another good track. "D-X-L" with The Lox and Drag-On was another great track. "Angel" with Regina Bell as well as the third single "What These ****** Want" with Sisqo are both solid tracks that were better than the skippable ones. Thats all of the good tracks I can think of.
This CD as a whole isn't really too special. If you're already a DMX fan, you probably have this album. I just feel that he could have came a little better that what we all expected from him. This album doesn't suck, but it does has it's moments throughout the CD. I have all of X's albums with the exception of his recent "Year Of The Dog Again", and I find this to be his worst LP. Yes, even "Grand Champ" was better than this album. If you're new to DMX, start with his first two albums to get a better level of how he sounds at his best. This album is easily forgettable.

Though it's admittedly kind of cheesy in spots, this is still a classic jam band album! You'll have lots of fun with it........2006-01-06 O.A.R. is kind of a cheesy jam band (their lyrics are usually pretty bad), but they still deliver some quality tunes. Every track here is fun to listen to, and in the end that's essentially the most important thing. What's great about this album, specifically, is that the production is great - everything is crystal clear even on a low-quality sound file. Marc Roberge also does a pretty good job with the vocals. Musically it's pretty standard jam band material, but every track is catchy with a great hook. If you love jam bands chances are you'll love O.A.R.'s "In Between Now & Then". "Hey Girl" and "James" are definitely GREAT tunes which definitely bumps it up to a "5" from a "4.5". All the pros definitely far outweigh what cons there are here (which aren't many). Highly recommended!
Highlights include:
the entire album!
Terrific.......2005-09-23 This album is terrific. The new "Hey Girl" version is soooo great. "Old Man Time" is also a good song. Basically, you'll like every song on this cd. I bought this album 1-2 years ago, when I realized that it came out, and I didn't have it. I'm a BIG O.A.R. fan. Mark's vocals in this are incredible. Anyone will like O.A.R. Jeez, I wish I could play Hey Girl on the acoustic guitar, since I'm a big fan, and I own a special Fender Telecaster that I want to sell because I want a Les Paul. If you possibly want to buy it, my e-mail is [...] My Telecaster isn't any normal black and white one.
You Can't Help But Like This Band!.......2005-04-23 The first song I ever heard by these guys was Right On Time actually on the radio driving to Maine. I then bought In Between Now & Then and was hooked. I then furthered my habit purchasing 34th & 8th, moving on to Any Time Now and Souls Aflame. This band has a solid and distinctly unique sound. I actually saw them tonight in concert in Kingston, PA and they are even more unbelievable live. A new song titled "5250" has an incredible melody to it. If you can put in one of their CDs and not have the urge to either sing along or at a minimum tap a finger or foot, you are melodically challenged.
Great Band.......2005-01-03 This was the first o.a.r. cd that I bought. It is a great CD, but if you want something incredible, get Any Time Now or another live recording. If you like them, you've really got to see them live, their live stuff is incredible.
More Addictive than Nicotine.......2004-08-21 I just love this band's sound. It gets trapped in your brain and leaves you wanting more and more...the rare times when I'm not listening to OAR, I'm humming their songs in my head. Beautiful. Timeless. Classic. Reminds me of old DMB meets old BNL (think Rock Spectacle) mixed with a touch of Sublime.
