SuperHoney's third CD captures more song-writing than groove, more finesse than funk - a great departure!
About the Artist
Punctuated emphatically by the effusive vocal delivery of Joan Pimentel, SuperHoney embody the core aesthetics of both melodic rock and vintage soul. Drawi ng comparisons to Janis and Aretha, Joan has won broad critical acclaim for her ext raordinary prowess -- including three nominations for Best Female Vocalist (2001, 2 000, 1999) at the Boston Music Awards. Steve Morse, music critic from the Boston Gl obe, calls Joanie "one of Boston's best-kept secrets....she can really dig deep for some of the most unchained vocals in town."
SuperHoney's third independent release, entitled Through The Radio Window, was prod uced by Scott Riebling of Letters To Cleo and recorded at Boston's renowned Q Divis ion. The latest effort is decidedly grown-up, offering greater depth and perspectiv e while still showcasing Joan's buoyant and inventive melodies. It's both soulful and sultry, both loose and crisply delivered -- yet still harnesses the hallmarks o f their emotive and gritty live performances. And it's the songs that shine. From the neo-soul ballad "Ragtime (Talking in Circles)" to the pop-laden "Cool As He Go es" to the melodic tempest in "Fear," fans and critics will find plenty to celebrat e. Also included on the CD is an enhanced video of their March show at the Orpheum Theatre. SuperHoney has attracted a broad and expansive fan-base since their debut in 1998, packing venues throughout the Northeast and selling 11,500 copies of their first tw o CD's. The band's ambitious touring pace of 100 shows a year -- spanning territo ry from Montreal to Key West -- has helped cement their claim as a top live attract ion. The recognition has been widespread, earning them 6 Boston Music Award nominat ions (Best Female Vocalist [3], Best Live Band [2], Best Soul Band) and the top pri ze for Best Funk Band at the 2001 Boston Music Awards. Other honors include: 2000 B oston Phoenix Best Music Poll winner for "Best R&B Soul" band, 1999 runner-up in CD now's Best Unsigned Band contest, an MTV Real World cameo, selection to Tweeter's B est Undiscovered Bands, and a featured performance at the 2000 Boston Globe JazzFes t. SuperHoney also earned the attention of George Clinton, who invited the band to "sit-in" with his P-Funk All-Stars at his Boston shows. SuperHoney has also su! pported Maceo Parker, Groove Collective, The Grey Boy All-Stars, The Tom Tom Club, and the Average White Band.
