This is a timeless album for then and now. I recall 20 years ago buying the 12-inch LP and the cassette of "The Best of Angela Bofill". The album logged in lots of playing time on my stereo. Still and now, "TBoAB" is good easy listening from the past as well as for the present. For anyone who is not familiar with Bofill's voice and career, this cd works well as an introductory course-- sort of "Bofill 101". For her fans who most likely have this cd in their collection already, it's a good refresher mini-course. I happened to take that course for a few mornings last week while getting ready for work. The cd lulled me into a nice time warp, during an extra-long shower as I replayed "I Try" three times, and also used my hairbrush as a microphone to duet with Angela as we belted out "Break It To Me Gently". (C'mon, you've done it, too-- 'fess up!)

It's fun when the golden r&b ballads can still take you back in time. And going back with Angela Bofill is The Best!

I agree with some of the others in their reviews. For those of you unfamiliar with the music and talent of Angela Bofill, this collection is an excellent place to start! Every song on this CD is good! "The Call Of the Wild" is the tune that moves me the most...just listen to her story...and you'll know why! So much music, so little time...4 stars!

This 1986 release was Angela Bofill's first-ever greatest hits compilation and is a good starting point for anyone first being introduced to her musical magic and peerless artistry. The remastering quality, however, leaves much to be desired. I therefore strongly recommend either the 1999-issued "Definitive Collection" and the 2003-released "Platinum and Gold Collection" over this one (both offer much better sound quality)

    A fairly good collection of her best songs. Get it at a good price and give it a listen. Four stars!!

    Unfortunately, this obviously low-budget compilation of Ms. Bofill's work hardly lives up to its title. Some of her biggest hits ("I Try", "This Time I'll Be Sweeter", "Too Tough" and "Something About You") are featured as well as some album-only tracks that were never released as singles. As is the case with the late Phyllis Hyman, BMG should seriously consider reissuing all of Angela Bofill's Arista recordings on CD--this would truly do the artist justice!!! (NOTE: This compilation is not a reissue of the one Arista Records issued in 1986--it's totally different.)
