I enjoy playing it, actually.......2007-07-31
I'm aware they have their critics - some of them really quite vicious - but I actually like Puddle of Mudd. Sure, they are clearly inspired and influenced by Nirvana but so what? Come Clean was one of my top ten buys of 2001, with songs like "control", "drift and die", "she hates me", "p*** it all away" and my all-time favourite tune, "blurry".
So I was really looking forward to this release in 2003 and I bought it as soon as it came out. It isn't as good as "come clean", there's no running away from that fact, but it's still a pretty good selection of songs and I thoroughly enjoy playing it. "Away From Me", "Change My Mind", "Think", "Sydney" and "Time Flies" are my favourite songs on the album though. (I just love the instrumental break ending to "Time Flies"). At least they write and play their own songs (very capably, I might add) and the fact that they manage to carry it off (sounding reminiscent of Nirvana, that is), is worthy of admiration in my mind. True, Kurt Cobain and his cohorts were phenomenally talented and successful but that doesn't make them sacrosanct. As far as I'm concerned, it's no different to Frank McComb sounding awfully like Donnie Hathaway. If Wesley Reid Scantlin and his bunch of dudes can continue as they started, I say more power to them.
A new album, Famous, is due out soon. Personally, I can't wait.
good hard rock.......2007-05-08
I THINK IT'S STUPID CUTE HOW PEOPLE ARE UPSET THAT PUDDLE OF MUDD SOUND A LITTLE LIKE NIRVANA. LIKE THAT'S A BAD THING? NIRVANA WERE GREAT. IN MY OPINION. PUDDLE OF MUDD ARE GREAT. IN MY OPINION. EVERYBODY COPIES SOMEBODY. DUH!!!! I'M 46 AND MY SON IS 15. HE CAN PUT ON A DEFTONES CD OR A POD CD AND WE BOTH ROCK OUR BRAINS OUT. I CAN PUT ON A OASIS CD OR A COLLECTIVE SOUL CD OR A PINK FLOYD CD OR A UFO CD AND WE BOTH ROCK OUR BRAINS OUT. I LOVE MY SON. MY POINT IS..... IF YOU DON'T LIKE A CD SAY YOU DON'T LIKE IT AND MOVE ON. WHY NOT SPEND YOUR TIME WRITING REVIEWS ABOUT BANDS THAT TURN YOU ON AND WHY THEY DO SO. IF I DON'T LIKE A BAND I DON'T SPEND HOURS TRYING TO FIND OUT WHY I DON'T LIKE THEM I JUST PUT ON SOMETHING ELSE. PROBLEM SOLVED. WOW! I FEEL BETTER. THANK GOD THERE ARE SO MANY KINDS OF MUSIC. I LIKE ALMOST ALL OF THEM. EXCEPT FOR POLKA METAL. THAT'S JUST WIERD. SORRY POLKA METAL FANS. ANYWAY,ROCK ON PUDDLE OF MUDD. SEE YOU IN CONCERT IN JUNE. LATER/PEACE MR. BUSH HOG
Could Have Been Much Better!!!.......2007-04-09
I really wanted to like this album, I really did. I love "Come Clean" and I was in anticipation of this, but when I got it I couldn't believe how bland and uncreative it was. It sounds like it was thrown together in ten minutes. The only reason i give it two stars is for the songs "Away From Me" and "Sydney" that's it. The rest of this CD is awful. This band can do much better than this. I am, however still a fan, I just the hope the next album (If there ever is one) shows me a little more.
gag.......2007-03-07
These guys are not artists. They are unimaginative lamebrains unwittingly and badly rewriting already overplayed music from a long dead scene. It's like a few monkeys build a house, and all the other monkeys rave about it, but in reality the house is just a banana tree with a welcome mat... whatever that means.
I am constantly astounded as to how waste like this gets on the radio. Buy this cd if you want to vomit everywhere.
Imitation is the highest form of flattery...or maybe not. .......2006-12-12
I admit it, I thought the song 'Blurry' was an OK song for a post-grunge/wanabe-grunge band, and most of the other singles off 'Come Clean' were somewhat tolerable. However; when the local rockstations took it upon themselves to bombard us with 'She f--king Hates Meeee' 24/7, I realized just how mediocre they really were. Granted, I knew they weren't so great to begin with, but at least 'Blurry' was a somewhat tolerable Nevermind-derived song. But 'tolerable' isn't really saying much for their artistic ability of which they are obviously lacking.
When their next [and last? :)] album came out and the stations began to play 'Away From Me' it was clear just they were trying way too hard. All you need to hear is the first song, 'Away From Me' to realize that that's just where you should get from this band.
As far as sounding like Nirvana goes, Puddle of Mudd does not sound like them at all, what they sound like is a band blatently trying to rip-off Nirvana's style. That's what the fans hate, and that's why Puddle of Mudd will always be loathed by fans of grunge. They just try too hard. Especially if you look at their videos, of which I only remember seeing one and it was a long time ago, but so much of it, from the underwatery effect to the guy's hair just looked like a Nevermind-era rip off. If I hadn't known who they were beforehand I'd have thought it was a parody! [and a rather bad one at that, nowhere near as great as Weird Al].
Oh and one more thing before I end this, to that guy before me: for future reference, before you go and diss a band you obviously know nothing about, could you at least try and get some facts right? It was not '10-15' years ago, it was 12. And besides that, what exactly does that even have to do with anything? John Lennon died 26 years ago, should we care any less about him and his music as time goes by? Absolutely not. Death means nothing in the world of music, only that it lives on in the hearts and minds of fans everywhere. And lastly, yes you should hate Pepsi for tasting similar to Coke because it's obviously trying too hard to be Coke. :D
I will be very stunned if this band ever has a comeback and even more so if it's successful. I guess the record execs realized that emo was the new hip thing and ditched these guys faster than you can say My Chemical Romance.

beauty, simplicity, and utility.......2001-09-12
Of this CD's twenty-eight tracks, eighteen are arrangements by Kevin Siegfried; the remaining ten are straightforward, unadorned performances of Shaker hymns, sung either by the choir in unison, or by a solo voice, as they would have been sung in Shaker services. Occasionally the choir stomps and claps, also as the Shakers would have done. The unison songs and Kevin's settings blend seamlessly together, since Kevin's music is very sensitive to the spirit of the original tunes. His harmonies have an open, rough-hewn quality to them, like early American furniture, sturdy and useful. The music carefully mirrors and supports the text, occasionally employing mixed meter to follow the natural cadences of speech. The settings are largely homophonic, like Lutheran chorales, rendering the text easily comprehensible. Kevin avoids unnecessary embellishments and repetitions, and each piece is a small, well-proportioned gem, averaging about two minutes in length. In the liner notes, Kevin writes of his desire to preserve the Shaker ideals of "beauty, simplicity, and utility" in his settings, and he has succeeded brilliantly; the music is unassuming, serene, and peaceful.
Words and Music Marry in Siegfried's Arrangements.......2001-06-27
This recording of Shaker Hymns arranged by composer Kevin Siegfried and sung by the very fine Tudor Choir of Seattle is magnificent for several reasons chief of which is the careful blending of text and music in the arrangements. The "gentle words" of these hymns come alive through Siegfried's thoughtful soundscapes, providing the right context for the message of these poignant and life affirming hymns. This is no small task and although the Tudor Choir sings beautifully throughout, it is the arranging that has really caught my ear on this cd; you'd be hard pressed to find a recording of choral works with a better marriage of text and music. Well worth your money, time, and ears.

The best.......2006-11-20
This is absolutely Eric Gadd's best album. He recorded it in New York, and I realy think that you can sense that in the music. Please check out his other albums.
And please listen to the wounderful background singers, Margaretha and Mija Folkesson, Swedens best.

Customer Reviews:
I wiped my butt with this disc . . ........2004-05-21
I honestly and truly do not like railing on albums. I feel that the artist really pours out their soul into their music, and even if it isn't my kinda thing, there are others that really love it. I always try to be respectful to their work.
BUT... this album truly, truly sucks. And I am not kidding.
Lyrically, this album is dead 9 weeks in the water. Wes and company really seem to have lost their touch in writing lyrics that, although not brilliant, were mostly fun and realistic. This is not a good thing.
The melodies on this album are NONEXISTANT, except on the opening track 'Away From Me' and a few selected others. 'Away From Me' is really all that this album has to offer, since all the other songs fail to retain their own spirit and quality. All the songs that MIGHT have been good sound too much like NIRVANA or even THE WHO, and it just pisses me off.
I'm really serious. There are albums that are simply more worth your time and money than this. If you like the album forgive me; I realized some of you guys might HATE the music I LOVE. But to me, this album still really sucks. Put your money toward the debut instead.
Almost Perfect.......2004-01-23
It's a good combination of Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, & Led Zepplin. They Pulled it off, and blows their debut album, Come Clean, out of the water. The two import tracks should have been on the domestic version. Plus, the intro to 'Freak Of The World' is one of the best I've ever heard; ever. To sum it all up in 2 words: F%@#in' Awesome!!!
