Sick good.......2007-07-30

In my opinion, this is one of the most underrated bands and albums in all of music. This is classic Over it and anyone who says they like punk or good music for that matter is seriously missing out. They certainly have a distinct kind of element to their sound. It's extremely difficult to pinpoint however. It's just great, let's leave it at that. A complete album, this disc has fast and creative guitar work mixed with tight drumming and melodic, emotive vocals. These guys have serious talent. This can always be enjoyed. The song "Crush" is still one of my all-time favorites ever. This kind of stuff needs to be more appreciated. Only 4 reviews!!, come on...

excellent.......2005-07-27

There's something special about these guys that doesn't exist in other bands of this genre. It's a certain spark or flare for the intense but ear pleasing melodies that other bands simply lack. This is definitely best exemplified in songs 3 and 4, which take off somewhat from the general idea of the band and really branch into something great. These songs are fueled by energy and emotion, but are too fast paced to be reflected upon, and after listening to them, you will be shocked by what you have just heard. Incredible.

The rest of the CD is pretty good, a few highlights such as songs 1, 10, and 11, but songs 3 and 4 are good enough to hold up the entire album. Buy this CD for those songs alone - thats what I did - and any other songs that may interest you are just a bonus.

This album receives 4 stars instead of 5 because of the stupid bonus track. Enough said on that one.

not your average pop punk/ whatever core band.......2004-02-02

Im sure I can speak for most people when I say that these guys are the most progressive band in melodic punk today. This is quite obvious if you are familiar with the bands earlier work, which was very good, but easily labled emo punk. Their music has changed so much it's hard to believe they're the same band. I haven't found another band with this type of sound yet. While the music is obviously melodic punk, it's still very hard to place a label on it. The music is very easy to listen to, but at the same time very aggresive for a melodic punk band. No sign at all of "jump up and down" sound typical in most melodic punk bands. They're not too poppy and not too heavy. In my mind, Over It gives pop punk a good kick in the ass. The vocals i would describe as emo influenced, the guitars are deep in tone and show some metal influnce, and the fast paced, heavy beats of the drums tie it all together. Just listen and you will see what i'm talking about.

A really good cd.......2004-01-23

Yeah...this cd is pretty good, it was recomended to me by this guy in a locally owned music store and he said it was an all around good cd. I have to admit..alot of it sounds the same, but after a while you pick up the different tones and chords and stuff and u get used to it. My favorite song on it is "serial kisser". this band is fun to listen to and is one of my favorite bands....over it sounds sorta like Yellowcard, Rufio, and off by one, so if you like them...GET THIS CD! Late

Her time (and timing) is NOW!!.......2004-06-07

You wouldn't believe such a little woman could be so big with talent--but that's just the beginning. She's a sexy dark-timbred vocalist, scorching saxophone player, and lightning-quick rampaging boogie-woogie pianist too, and her star is shining bright. She wrote all this material and arranged it too, so it's as rock-solid and wickedly tasty as anything to be desired.
In concert, she absolutely explodes with radiant musical energy that can be felt all the way to the balcony seats. You absolutely owe yourself the opportunity to partake of this woman's abilities to turn your ear inside-out with her magic! Her Timing is EVERYTHING good!

Better than Ever.......2003-07-02

Deanna Bogart has outdone herself on this CD. It is her best yet and has a wide variety of her talent. Anyone who is new to this artist should start with this CD and work their way back. It's well worth it!

Five stars for "Lebanese Night".......2006-08-15

The song "Lebanese Night" alone is worth the price of the CD. It's a beautiful duet sung with the Lebanese pop singer Elissa. Non-Arabic speakers might miss the beauty of the lyrics that she sings in accompaniment. They translate to:

"All of my life, all I have known,
only a place where peace cannot go;
All over the world, the gift from before,
nothing is left for the children of war."

A Real Mistake.......2005-08-10

Chris Deburgh said in an interview that he wanted to really do something different for the "Timing Is Everything" album.

Well, he certainly did that...he made it an uneven and low on content. At least 3 of the songs are cheap ripoffs of songs that were popular on his previous album "Private Revolution". It's like he kept the music and just changed the lyrics. It sounds like an album written, produced and recorded in an hour and a half.

Chris DeBurgh is usally so good at love songs that he can take the sappiest lyrics and make them song great...but things are definitely different for this album. On this album, the love songs are absurd.

In one song, Chris Deburgh actually seems to suggest that a woman will love a man more if the man is flat broke...heck why not just say that women really go for homeless men, eh Chris? Is that absurd enough?

No wonder Chris DeBurgh releases more Greatest Hits albums these days than original ones...he is obviously out of ideas. Perhaps he should finally retire and stop embarrassing himself and his long-suffering fans.

De Burgh keeps it fresh after 27 years.......2003-10-30

You would think that after 25+ years in the music business, having amassed a personal fortune estimated at nearly $50 million, Chris de Burgh might be ready to hang it all up and head to beach pictured on the cover of "Timing is Everything".

Or, at the very least, you might think he'd simply throw together a few half-developed tracks and call it an album.

Wrong on both counts.

De Burgh is still in great voice throughout the 11 songs on "Timing is Everything", and his lyrics still have the ability to paint vivid pictures of love, war and compassion.

The opening and closing tracks ("Guilty Secret" and "Save Me", respectively) are the album's weakest. Not bad songs, necessarily, but they just lack the depth we have become accustomed to from De Burgh.

The rest of the album is absolutely excellent.

De Burgh espouses a Lebanese flavor.......2003-07-21

This album is worth it if only for the incredible duet "Lebanese Night" (with Lebanese singer Elissa). The melody is instantly pleasing while the lyrics are extremely poignant. It's wonderful to note that Chris De Burgh, not unlike such artists as Sting ("Desert Rose"), is finally experimenting with Arabic music in a way that creates a truly global sound. Elissa's vocals on the track only add to its haunting quality.

Paradise Lost.......2002-12-11

Looking at the cover of "Timing Is Everything" you'd think the music would be as refreshing. It is to an extent. De Burgh attempts to make an upbeat and exciting recording but it falls rather flat. De Burgh has created a cd with a slick production and nothing really memorable. This isn't "Spanish Train & Other Stories", "The Getaway" or "Man On The Line". There are no interesting stories here, just bland songs about infidelity and romance--a territory well worn on previous outings like "Into The Light", "Flying Colours", "Power Of Ten" and "Quiet Revolution". At times, I even felt that Chris sounded downright silly. The best that can be said about this cd is that it's mercifully short and upbeat.

Great Music.......2000-11-11

This is a spectacular album with all the elements one could ask for---original and clever lyrics, great music with a variety of rhythms--and the album gets better and better the more you listen to it. This band should be getting more airplay and recognition and I strongly recommend that those who appreciate music that strays from the bubble gum radio stations pass off to the masses will give it a listen and support Block so that they can continue to create and produce music like this.

Power-folk that knocks your Block off.......1999-05-27

Block's first major label effort is on the mark. Other bands that carry the "witty" music label suffer in songwriting. Block brakes that by creating songs that have clever lyrics and song development. This is an excellent "good time" CD, that does have moments of seriousness in it. The mix of folk, pop, rock, and funk in this album reminds me a little of Beck at times. "Timing is Everything" has a little of everything for everyone.

Six Ounce Glove: Timing is Everything (Rock Ridge).......2006-06-10

Is it now? The music started somewhere in the late 90's and here we are with just 8 songs in just 32 minutes and a few seconds left. All with a chance to reach the Mainstream rock charts in to time. Aggression, and everything you need for a rock record, including a name to further describe every aspect to what their music is supposed to sound like: a six ounce glove with enough metal to cut through your skin. Those looking for a comparison, Six Ounce Glove is sure to get comparisons of Dredg, Glassjaw, and 10 Years.
"Where Do I Go?" is likely to never change the formula of rock music with the chorus "Where do I go to find tomorrow?/Where do I go from here?" "Dying Wish" isn't quite anything new to my ears. "Exhale" introduces a bit of Earshot sound, which makes it one of their best. And as colossal as "Permission" really plays as an ideal hit, the music really doesn't make me want to do anything than to name bands who have done this kind of exact sound before. (Oh, and this is Earshot with a shot of Dredg.) "Momentary Laps" doesn't quite keep up the slack "Exhale" and "Premission" drags through. And "To Live" sounds like it wants to just end the track directly on it's knees, so they can keep walking on a scorching road. The rest of the album isn't quite making things better.
It's going to anger them to hear that they are sending in what could be diluted carbon copies, but honestly, listening to this album feels a lot like listening to a greatest hits of hard rock you have heard through the year 2000, without a things changed. The thing about that is the album keeps rock music standing and hold their guns straight, but how many times do they have to fire off till they ran out of bullets altogether?

(Buy it in case you just want a new band. Don't buy it if you want to hear a and play something new.)

I bought this CD and had no idea what to expect. I popped it in and to my surprise, I was drawn in. Meshun's smooth vocals catch you and take you into his world. The production of the music is top-notch and complements Meshun's voice. I highly recommend this CD. Meshun has presented himself as a star and that's because he IS one already. It's just up to you to catch the fever. And you'd better hurry...because TIMING IS EVERYTHING!!!
