Not such a great sampling...........2001-01-21
Some of these songs are really stretching for a romantic mood. Especially some of the On the Town songs. It's not that they're not good though....All of this music is from other CDs that have been already been released. Don't limit yourself to just these songs. Go ahead and buy the other recordings. Deutsche Grammophon did the On the Town recording along with West Side Story and Candide. I'd recommend a different recording of West Side Story though. The one of Wonderful Town is the kinda newly released complete version of the musical. It's a good but expensive one. Also, this recording left out some of THE greatest love songs from Peter Pan (Dream of Me, Peter Peter), Trouble in Tahiti (Well of all people, There is A Garden, Finale), 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue (Seena, Lud's Wedding), and Quiet Place (There is so much, too much). I think this recording, though okay, is a stumbling block to finding out about the real Bernstein saga of musicals. And if you are still getting this recording, the sound quality is really good. West Side Story is done by the masters of the opera so they sing it that way. Candide is operetic too, but then again it is an operetta. That's about all I have to say on this recording.
nice but operatic.......2000-02-23
This is a nice collection of Bernstein miscellany. Note however that the West Side Story, On the Town, and Candide are the "operatic" versions, with Te Kanawa and Carreras, Von Stade and Hampson, and Jerry Hadley, respectively. Bernstein conducts WSS and Candide and Tilson Thomas OTT. The surprise is the bits from Wonderful Town, which was recorded on JAY, not DG like the others. Featuring Ron Raines and Rebecca Luker, it's probably the most authentically "Broadway" of this set.

tight jam!.......2002-05-06
when you hear a jam like this you think the Album will be just as Slammin" well you'd be wrong.the album sadly doesn't match the spark of this cut.this Jam was so cool&I was hyped.I thought the Album was gonna be as solid as this Song? but it wasn't.anyway this is a Jam that still sounds cool.
He's Just Tryin' To Get Wit' You... Honest!.......2001-09-22
Before I even heard the words to this song, I had a vague feeling that it was Maxwell's voice that would be coming up after the intro. This song was incredibly slept on, which is a shame because it's my 3rd favorite Maxwell song behind 1) Cococure and 2) I'm You. Maxwell is known for having that thumping bassline that gets you going and lyrics that actually mean something (if somewhat confusing at times). And his adlibbing is splendid. Luckily, on "Now", Max once again teams up with Sade musician, Stuart Matthewman (multi-instrumental genius) and gives us nothing short of a spectacular album. I just hope I don't have another 3 years for one my favorite neo-soul artists to come out with another album.
I LOVE THIS SONG!.......2001-03-18
Get to know ya, is good. Finally Maxwell is back. I can't wait till his cd comes out. This first track is off da hook. I have to say R.Kelly is the king of R&B, Jon B is like the younger version of Barry White(that's what I like to call him) And Maxwell is just plain different and awesome with his sexy, and smooth style of singing. I love his songs, they put you into this cool relaxing mood.
Boring and ordinary song.......2001-03-12
yet maintaining faith in him musically overall and can't wait for the new CD since all the others are wonderful.
He's BAAAACK..........2001-03-08
...and Maxwell is out to let people know how mellow smooth R&B is done, and that it's not all about booty or asking someone in a backhanded way to marry them (are you listening Jagged Edge and Next???). This track seems to hearken back to Maxwell's first CD, rather than continue the extremely laid back sound of Embrya. Not that that's a bad thing, mind you. Part of the problem (if you felt there was one) with the second album was that it was so mellow you forgot which song you were actually listening to. This isn't a problem with this single, and if the single is any indication, it won't be a problem with the new album.
